Well I racked off 11 games in one day, about 6 or 7 in a row just so I could finish up. I'll switch up the difficulty after this year is complete.

          Regular Season Report

          Senators Report

          (61-14-7)

          #1 Eastern Conference

Ottawa just capped off their best regular season, in modern franchise history. They won 61 total games, losing only 21, in the 82 game season. With these 61 wins they will receive the President's trophy and will have home-ice advantage throughout the playoffs.

Dany Heatley proved that he is the most prolific scorer in the NHL by scoring 50 or more goals in a thrid straight season. Heatley started the season off slowly, with only 9 goals in the first few months, but picked it up as the season went on and with 7 goals coming in one game, he got to 50 once again. That 7 goal game tied Heatley with Joe Malone from the 1920's for most goals in a single game.

Another standout player for Ottawa was Micheal Blunden. Blunden was brought in just before the trade deadline, with only 2 points in an 11 game career. Blunden played 14 games for the Senators scoring 8 times and nabbing 13 points. Blunden is only 21 years old and could be a very important part in the Future of Senators hockey.

Ottawa's defense was one of the best all year long. They helped Emery and Lalime combine for 13 shutouts and led Ottawa to a first place finish. Redden, who struggled last year, got his game back together and put up 52 points, with 48 assists. Redden was a part of over half of Heatley's goals and got him to the 50 goal plateau. The only downfall of Redden was that he was the most penalized Senators. He would get a lot of tripping calls throughout the year and would give the opposition chances to score. Redden will have to clean that up before the playoffs start.

The real truth to Ottawa's season was the goaltending. It started out shaky with Gerber and Emery fighting for the starting position. Gerber was traded early in favor of Halak and Chiodo was picked up off free agents. Ottawa would acquire Patrick Lalime later in the season though. Lalime grabbed 4 shutouts during his stint this season in Ottawa. Emery had a career season, posting 9 shutouts(more than in his entire NHL career) and 40 wins(7 more than his career best). Emery was stellar in net all year, he was benched once after losing a game to Pittsburgh, but came back very strong.

Overall Ottawa has an incredibly successful year and they hope to cap it off with a cup victory. Ottawa has been hungry for a cup since the franchise returned to Ottawa and have not been able to get over the hump. Last year they made it to the Finals but the city of Ottawa had their hearts ripped out when the Ducks took the cup away. Ottawa is hoping they can finally get past all of the choking accusations of the media and finally get over the hump to grasp Lord Stanley's cup.

              2007-2008 NHL Playoffs

              1. Ottawa Senators Vs. 8. New Jersey

              Series Preview

Coming into this series the biggest match-up is Emery Vs. Brodeur. Last year Ottawa took the Devils out of the playoffs and New Jersey wants revenge. That may be a problem since Ottawa has home-ice advantage to start the series and Ottawa has been succesful against the Devils this year. In 4 games played against each other, Ottawa has won 4. Ottawa scored 4 or more goals in 3 of the games and held New Jersey to only 1 goal in each of the 4 games. Basically this series should be a cake walk for Ottawa.

                        Series review

Ottawa came out very strong in this series scoring 5 goals in 2 home games, allowing only 1 to get in their net. Emery posted 2 shutouts in his 3 games and Lalime posted a shutout in game four. Emery allowed the only goal scored against Ottawa in the series. Emery faced 61 shots in the three games, and also put a point on the board assisting a goal.

The best skater for Ottawa was top line center, Jason Spezza. Spezza had 3 goals and 3 assists in the 4 game series. Redden had 5 assists and Eaves had 4. The top line of Ottawa was a scary force as Heatley put up 2 goals and an assist to add to the stellar perfomance of Spezza and Eaves. The biggest surprise of the series was Brian McGrattan scoring a goal and 2 assists in the 4 games he played. McGrattan is mostly known as a fighter, but during this series and the later part of the season he has gained a scoring touch.

The series MVP is Ray Emery. With 60 saves on 61 shots, 2 shutouts and 3 wins. He led Ottawa to a sweep of the Devils.

                              Series Preview

Ottawa will face a much tougher opponent in New York than they did against New Jersey. In five games played this year New York won 3 of them. During the season Ottawa had a very tough time shutting down the Rangers scorers and that led to high scoring games.

After up setting Pittsburgh in the first round New York will be riding high and will have a ton of momentum. The Rangers will have to score a lot of goals to keep Ottawa down and we should see some games with more than 10 total goals. That will only happen if Emery can not keep his hot streak going.

Emery has 2 shutouts in his last 3 games and has been amazing in the playoffs so far. Ottawa has the advantage in the goaltending department by a long shot.

                                A question:

With a high-octane offence like the Rangers possess, how long of a leash does Ray Emery have? Obviously Lalime has proved his ability shutting out Jersey in game 4...then again, he did kind of get rocked in that Leaf series a couple of years back
