A question:

With a high-octane offence like the Rangers possess, how long of a leash does Ray Emery have? Obviously Lalime has proved his ability shutting out Jersey in game 4...then again, he did kind of get rocked in that Leaf series a couple of years back

Emery has an incredibly short leash. If he messes up badly in game one, he will not play game 2, Lalime will take over. Lalime has a three game shutout streak going, so if Emery faulters at all I'm putting in Lalime for the next game. I don't believe in subbing goalies mid-game, you finish what you start.

Series Review

After sweeping New Jersey in the first round, Ottawa had to face a much tougher opponent in the second round. The Rangers did prove to be more troublesome for Ottawa as New York did not get sweeped and left the series with a victory.

Ray Emery played the first 3 games, allowing only 1 goal in the first game and 1 goal in the second. But in game 3 he faultered in the second period and lost his first game of the playoffs. Patrick Lalime took over for game 4 and 5 and was no better than Emery. The only difference was that Lalime gave the goals up early, not in pressure situations like Emery. This gave Ottawa a lot of time to come back and tie or take the lead.

The series MVP is Dany Heatley. He had 5 goals and 2 assists in the series. Including a hatrick in game 5. Heatley earns series MVP mainly because of his hat-trick in game 5. Heatley tied the game twice for Ottawa in that game and added an empty net goal at the end. Without Heatley Ottawa would have lost game 5.

The biggest surprise was Emery faultering in game 3. After 2 games and only 2 goals against, Emery was expected to be able to hold off the Rangers. Apparently he couldn't and was benched in favor of Patrick Lalime.

Series Preview

Historically Atlanta has always given Ottawa trouble whenever they play. This year was no different. Ottawa won the season series 3-2, with some good games between them. The biggest story will be the battle of Heatley and Hossa.

The Heatley and Hossa battle is so big because they were traded for eachother a few seasons ago. So far Ottawa has had better results. Since the trade Heatley has 3 50 goals seasons and Ottawa has made the playoffs every year. Atlanta made the playoffs for the first time last year and were bumped out very early. Now Atlanta has gotten to the final round of the Eastern Conference and hope to take down Ottawa.

Ottawa will start Emery in nets again with a longer leash since this is an incredibly important round. If Ottawa wins, it will be the second time in two years that they go to the Stanley cup finals. If Atlanta goes it is the first time in franchise history and it will be a big event in A-Town.
