Ottawa had their worst month of the season splitting the victories and losses at 7-7. Alfredsson was injured in the third game of the month and has missed 11 games so far, he is expected back by the 10th of January. Ottawa went from first in the conference to third rather quickly. Ottawa could not get a string of wins going and kept getting their losses in groups of 2's.

Ottawa picked up former goalie Patrick Lalime on waivers and he has played 3 games for Ottawa, picking up 2 wins and a loss. The fans seem happy with him, as he only comes in when Emery is fatigued. Emery is the clear-cut starter and has proven he can play a lot of games by posting 6 shutouts so far.

Patrick Eaves is by far the best Senator this year. In 38 games he has picked up 14 goals and 13 assists, leading all Senators in points and goals. Because of Eaves great performance when Alfie was injured he was put on the first line, and the Senators coach said he will be staying there when Alfredsson does return.

Heatley the NHL's most prolific goal scorer, who hit the 50 goal mark 2 years in a row has now become a set-up man. He has 16 assists and only 9 goals as he has spent most of the season passing to Alfredsson, or Eaves to set up the goal. Spezza and Heatley have a combined 30 assists this year.

With Alfredsson's return looming, Ottawa would have a full healthy roster for the first time. This means a player would need to go back to the minors. The most likely pick is Jamie Allison a defenseman who has played in every game so far, and has recorded 4 points, the other choice would be sending rookie center, Josh Hennessy back to Bingo. That is unlikely since Hennessy has 4 goals and 4 assists in 27 games and has had great chemistry with Kelly and Schubert.

Ottawa will need to have a good month if they want to take back their lead in the Eastern Conference. They do not play Pittsburgh this month so they will have to hope other teams can keep the Pens down and Ottawa hopes they can roll over the competition so they can re-take the #1 seed.
