Re: Week 1 NFC South Scores and Standings

Well, I got the 3 Rings of Death for my 360 yesterday, so this will be the focus for the next month. I've had my 360 for a year and it has broken twice now. Luckily, it happened before MLB 2K8 came out.

Charlotte, NC - The Carolina Panthers continued their early barrage of dominance today, defeating the Cincinnati Bengals 30-17. A potent balanced attack was key for the Panthers today as they gained 246 through the air and 238 on the ground. "We were balanced and potent today," commented Coach Hunter Crow, "and that's the way I like it. When you can dominate a defense on the ground and through the air, you never know what's coming next."

Jake Delhomme was deadly efficient for the Panthers today as he completed 22 of his 28 passes for 246 yards and a touchdown. What a turnaround from last year for Jake, when he tossed 18 interceptions. This year, he is yet to throw a pick. "I worked really hard in the offseason," he said, "and tried to improve my accuracy. I also am trying to not throw the ball into coverage, which I felt I felt I did far too often last season."

Coach Crow was pleased with the performance and the way his team has played thus far this season. "We are playing wonderfully this season and we sit atop the NFC South in 1st place. It is a great feeling. We are yet to be defeated and we will not be defeated. We are the second coming of the 1972 Miami Dolphins, I have no doubt about it. Tonight, I'm going to go home, drink my Heineken and relax in my recliner. I think I'm going to watch some "Curb Your Enthusiasm" on HBO On Demand and enjoy myself. When we lose, when I get home, I head straight to the recliner and drink myself to death, but when we win, I feel so much more at ease."

The Carolina Panthers improve to 2-0 on this young season and sit atop the NFC South Standings alone in 1st place.

Yeah, I must have got a cursed 360 or something, LOL!

I don't play it for long periods of time and take care of it well, but it still breaks. I've had my old Xbox for almost 4 years now and I've kept it on for 6-8 hours in one playing session before and played it all night and such and I've never had a problem with it (Now watch it break since I said that). Back in the summer of 2004 I remember having some really good times with it. I would play it a whole lot and keep it on for many hours at a time, and it still works. Then I get a 360 and nurse it and take care of it and it breaks all the time. It sucks, but at least I enjoy my old Xbox as well.

Alright, folks. I realized I had the computer's passing sliders far too low. I am not sure if I accidentally did this or what, but whatever the case, the sliders are fixed for the following game against the St. Louis Rams. I'm sure we won't be seeing another 7 interception game against the Bucs with the fixed sliders, thankfully.

                (2-0)

St. Louis, MO - The game was a battle of undefeated teams. Both teams were 2-0 and were looking to improve to 3-0, but only one could do so. The Rams had Matt Hasselbeck, whom they acquired in the offseason through free agency. "We pitched Matt an offer," commented Coach Crow before the game, "but he didn't accept it and decided to go to the Rams. No hard feelings towards him. It's just business." Hasselbeck had a great game, or should we say great 3/4 of a game, as he was knocked out of the game late in the 3rd quarter. Prior to his injury, he had completed 15 of his 23 passes for 206 yards and a touchdown. In came backup and West Virginia alum Marc Bulger, last year's starter. Bulger proceeded to complete just 4 of 11 passes for 31 yards and 2 costly picks. Before the Hasselbeck injury, the Rams were up 13-10, but the score ended 20-13 in favor of the Panthers, who improve to 3-0 on the season.

The Panthers offense was not spectacular today as Jake Delhomme as only 289 yards of offense were gained. 105 rushing yards were gained compared to 184 passing yards, so the Panthers were fairly balanced. Coach Crow decided to opt for the pass a bit more than usual today, as he felt Jake Delhomme could shred the Rams' secondary. His plan worked decently, as Jake Delhomme threw for 184 yards, but unfortunately only completed 51% of his passes. Delhomme also threw an interception in the 4th quarter, his first of the year.

The running game for the Panthers was not as good as the first 2 games, but it was still pretty good. Stephen Davis picked up 42 yards and a touchdown on the ground and Deshaun Foster picked up another 31 yards rushing. Jake Delhomme even picked up 29 yards on 3 scrambles, 2 of which gave the Panthers much needed 1st downs late in the game. "If the defense gives Jake enough room, he can take off and get quite a few yards," commented Coach Crow. "Today, Jake scrambled for 12 yards on a 3rd and 8 late in the game and if he did not make that crucial run, we would have had to punt the ball back to the powerful Rams offense, and we may have lost the game."

Another note is that Joey Galloway, though only catching 3 passes for 19 yards in the game, grabbed his 5,000th reception of his career in the game. "I've had a great career and I loved nothing more than to do it in a Carolina Panthers uniform," he said in a post-game press conference. Coach Crow expressed his happiness for Galloway by saying, "I am certainly happy for him. I wish him the very best in his journey and have always watched him and been a big fan of his during his NFL career. He doesn't need to celebrate too much, though, because we still have a game next week and I don't care if you have 5,000 career receptions. If you don't try your best, you will not be on this team, and that goes for everybody. But, yes, I am very excited for him."

Tight end Bubba Franks had his first breakout game for the Panthers today, as he was the leading receiver of the game. Franks grabbed 5 receptions for 61 yards and a crucial touchdown that put Carolina up 17-13 in the 4th quarter. "Well, we got him because we knew he was good, and he certainly good today," commented Coach Crow. "He's got a big body, I believe he is 6'6" and 263 pounds, and good hands. Combine that with surprising quickness for such a big guy, and you've got yourself a big threat coming in the passing game and a good run blocker. In my opinion, he is one of the best tight ends in the league and it's nice to know he's lining up for us, and not on the opposing team. He and Galloway were signed during free agency to help jumpstart our lackluster passing game from last season, and so far they have done a fine job in doing so."

With the win, the Panthers improve to 3-0 and remain undefeated and in 1st place in the NFC South. The Rams fall to 2-1.

Haha, well I must have had the sliders like that last year too and I still sucked miserably. We don't really need an asterisk, do we? I just used "Performance Enhancing Sliders" for 2 games, plus I beat the Rams without them.

And with that, we get to the 100th post of this dynasty.

                        (3-0)

Charlotte, NC - The Panthers continued their winning ways on Sunday, this time defeating the San Francisco 49ers 17-3 in a defensive slugfest in which neither side gained much offense. The Panthers jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in the 1st quarter and the 49ers would tack on a field goal in the 2nd quarter to make it 7-3 at halftime. Carolina would tack on 10 more points in the 2nd half as they gutted out their 4th win this season with the 2 touchdown victory.

The Panthers defense frustrated 49ers quarterback Ken Dorsey, as Dorsey only completed 18 of his 50 passes, or just 36%, for 235 yards, but more importantly no touchdowns and 3 interceptions. "Our defense was swarming all over the field," commented Carolina's Coach Crow. "I love to see good defense. It allows your offense, which was serviceable, but less than spectacular today, to have a down day and still win the game."

The Panthers' offense did indeed struggle, as they were outgained 275 yards to 257 by the 49ers. However, the key in the game was turnovers, and the Panthers held a clear advantage in the all-important turnover category. The Panthers committed no turnovers of their own while forcing 3 San Francisco turnovers, which ultimately won them the game.

The Panthers improve to 4-0 with the victory and are still leading the NFC South.

Nice win, the Saints are biting hard. Lets hope you can pull ahead in the next couple weeks and secure that divisional win.
