Houston Texans: Turning them into a Champion (madden 09)
I'm gonna start a franchise with my team the Houston Texans and turn them into a Superbowl Contender every year!!Tags: None -
Re: Houston Texans: Turning them into a Champion (madden 09)
my plan is to build through the draft
Main Items to do:
1.find a very good #2 receiver to go along with Andre johnson
2.find a true #1 running back ahman green and chris brown are going to get it done will evalute wether steve slaton is good enough to be a backup or maybe my main guy throughout season 1
3.build a solid offensive line
4.build a better defensive secondary starting with the safety positions -
Re: Houston Texans: Turning them into a Champion (madden 09)
just finished the preseason and coming out of preseason i have a couple answers to my questions:
1.Andre Davis is a good speed compliment to Andre Johnson and Kevin Walter is a great #3 but neither is the solid #2 i am looking for
2.Steve Slaton comes out of preseason with the #1 runningback job mainly because Ahman Green is injuryed and out for 4 weeks and i personally dont think chris brown is a #1 type back
3.starting the season with the same offensive line as i had starting throughout the preseason they did a good enough job but i still plan on working on them in the offseason
4.Dunta Robinson is a solid #1 CB the rest of my cornerbacks would be 3's or 4's on any other team but i like fred bennett a 2nd year man im gonna keep my eye on him throughout the season. as far as my safeties go im gonna have to wait to deal with them until the offseason or unless another team drops one or one catches my eye i might pursue through a trade.
--i plan on trying to trade either Green or Brown for a extra draft pick, if slaton cant hack it or the one i keep out of these 2 gets injuryed i can always bring back my leading rusher from last year in Ron Danye or give Chicago Bear-bust Cedric Benson a 2nd chance. Shoot if i am in contention for a playoff spot i might even give Shaun Alexander a chance.
--In interesting side news Ben Roethlisberger got injured in preseason game 1 and is out for the year for the steelers i guess its a good thing before the season started i put Byron Letftwich on their team.
--we will see how week 1 goes for my Texans playing against the Big Benless Steelers and how well 3round pick steve slaton does against the vaunted steelers defense...Comment

Re: Houston Texans: Turning them into a Champion (madden 09)
Before starting my First game of the year against the steelers i signed Owen Daniels (TE-88) and Dunta Robinson(CB-87) to 4-year contract extensions. and also began scouting some players in the april draft. with my current scouting agency i can only scout 10 players this year so i better choose them wisely.
1.Malcolm Jenkins-CB-Ohio st
2.Michael Crabtree-WR-Texas Tech
3.Percy Harvin-WR-Florida
4.Derrick Williams-WR-Penn St
5.Taylor Mays-FS-USC
i'm only gonna scout those for right now and save the other 5 spots for when i notice i need depth or an upgrade at a particular position throughout the seasonComment

Re: Houston Texans: Turning them into a Champion (madden 09)
Just finished game 1 of the season against the Big Benless steelers
Texans-34
Steelers-14
the only reason why i won this game was because Schaub threw 2TD's to Andre Johnson and Johnson ended the game 3 yards short of 200 for the game. also charlie batch and byron leftwich combined for 6INTS. my running didnt show up steve slaton had 18yrds on 12 carries and chris brown had 10 yrds on 6 carries but did have a TD so i had to make the short passes my running game. Schaub ended the game with 326yrds passing.
i may have to start looking for a FA running back if it doesn't pick up or FA offensive lineman.Comment

Re: Houston Texans: Turning them into a Champion (madden 09)
i know it has only been one game but im debating weather to sign ex-bengal WR Chris Henry to give me a better option at the #2 WR spot. Kevin Walter and Andre Davis are good wr's but not a #2 especially if my running game keeps this up im gonna need better wr's to go along with Andre Johnson. what do ya'll think?Comment

Re: Houston Texans: Turning them into a Champion (madden 09)
Game 2: Ravens @ Texans
--my plan going into this game was establish some kinda of running game with Slaton and Chris Brown. i don't wanna rely on Schaub and my receivers too much cause outside of Andre Johnson i really dont have any receivers. Also i need to get some kinda of pass rush going cause in the first game i didnt have any sacks...on the upside of my defense i do get pressure on the qb just not getting there fast enough to bring them down for a loss.
SCORE GAME 2:
Texans-27
Ravens-12
Game leaders
passing: (BAL)Troy Smith (29-42) 245yrds 1TD 1INT
rushing: (HOU)Steve Slaton 29 att 140yrds 2TDs 4.8avg
receiving: (HOU)Andre Johnson 9rec 103yrds 1TD
Game recap:
My passing game never really got started matt schaub ended the game with 168yrds passing he did however complete them at a pretty good percentage going (21-30) throwing for 1TD and sadly 2INTs...my running game showed up when it needed to, the first half started off slow going back and forth between slaton and brown but i decided in the 3rd quarter to stick with one man and slaton didnt dissappoint...the ravens offense was clicking they just couldnt do anything when it mattered in the redzone coming away with 2 field goals and only 1td in 5 attempts and missing on the the 2pt conversion on that td...i finally got a pass rush going in this game Amobi Okoye ended the game with 2 sacks and DE-Anothy Weaver, OLB-Xavier Adibi, and DT-Travis Johnson each added 1 sack...
Next Game: Houston Texans (2-0) @ Tennessee Titans(1-1)
injury report: Ahman Green sprained ankle--out for 2 more weeks
Vince Young broken ribs--out for 4 more weeks
--it may hurt me that Vince Young is out considering Kerry Collins is a better passer and my secondary isnt all that good.
--if Slaton keeps this up i will have to unload either brown or Green more likely Green since he's older and is becoming injury prone in his old age.Comment

Re: Houston Texans: Turning them into a Champion (madden 09)
...Before the game with the Titans the Houston Texans signed WR-Chris Henry(82) to a one year $3.71 million dollar deal to add another weapon in the passing attack. The Texans hope Chris Henry can be a compliment to star wide receiver Andre Johnson who after two games is second in the league in receptions and receiving yards and receiving touchdowns only behind Reggie Wayne of the Colts...Comment

Re: Houston Texans: Turning them into a Champion (madden 09)
Good dynasty. One note though. Chris Henry probably won't ever play in the NFL again, if so maybe the Raiders. lol. He is a criminal that will never get his act together. A good signing for Madden though.Comment

well for the texans to win they may have to take a chance here and there on a player specially if it means more victories!Comment

Re: Houston Texans: Turning them into a Champion (madden 09)
Game 3: Texans @ Titans
Apparently after Vince Young got hurt during the preseason the Titans signed Daunte Culpepper i didnt realize this until the Titans got the ball.
Score
Texans-28
Titans-21
Game Leaders
passing: (TEN)Dunte Culpepper (29-34) 321yrds 3TDs 2INTs
rushing: (HOU)Steve Slaton 31att 71yrds 1TD
receiving: (HOU)Andre Johnson 6 rec 139yrds 1TD
Game Recap:
This was a come from behind win for the Texans against the rival Tennessee Titans. after the first half it was 14-6 Titans...the stats are a bit deceiving in this game cause for the first half Slaton only ran for 20 yards on 15 carries. slaton turned it on in the second half netting 51yrds on 16 carries...new addition WR Chris Henry made an immediate impact taking pressure off of Andre Johnson and made 3 big third down catches, he finished the game with 5 catches for 72yrds, with Henry now in the wr corps it opened up the game for TE Owen Daniels 4rec 44ryds 1TD...my pass rush is what saved me in this game Amobi Okoye had 2 sacks once again and Anthony Weaver, Mario Williams, Marlon Greenwood, and Travis Johnson each added a sack...Matt Schaub had an ok game (21-27) 286yrds 2TDs and 2INTs. one of those interceptions came in the redzone so the game might not have been so close...
Next Game: Texans(3-0) @ Jaguars(1-2)
injuries: Ahman Green sprained ankle out for 1 more week; Jags have no injuries.
Game preview: i know i have a tough game coming up the Jags are just victims of a tough early schedule. Their 2 losses came against division rivals, the Titans and the Colts, losing by a combined score of 59-41...my linebackers and secondary are prolly gonna get some work in this game with the exceptional running game of the jags...hopefully i can shut down the passing game this week cause in the past 2 games my defense has given up 566yrds and 4TDs through the air...Comment

Re: Houston Texans: Turning them into a Champion (madden 09)
Game 4: Texans @ Jaguars
Score
Texans-19
Jaguars-14
Game Leaders
passing: (HOU)Matt Schaub (30-37) 288yrds 1TD 1INT
rushing: (JAX)Fred Taylor 18att 142yrds 1TD
recieving: (HOU)Chris Henry 9rec 106yrds
Game Recap: This was a very difficult and ugly win. Kicker Kris Brown was 4 for 4 in field goals he earned the MVP of the game for me...my rushing attack was nonexistent Slaton ended the rushing for 21yrds on 21atts it was horrible...the good news is matt schaub was on his game he completed 7 passes in a row twice during this game...Slaton also had 3 recs for 41yrds and the only TD for the texans...Fred Taylor was very dominant on the 3rd play of the game he ran for a 76yrd TD run...the jaguars were double teaming andre johnson all day so that opened things up for Chris Henry and TE Owen Daniels...Amobi Okoyo continued his dominant way getting another sack in this game, that would be 5 sacks in the first 3 games for Okoyo...Anthony Weaver and Demco Ryans also added a sack...The Jaguars had the ball back with 1:00min on the clock but with 54 seconds left David Garrad threw a costly interception to C.C. Brown to clinch the game for the Houston Texans...
Next Game: Colts(4-0) @ Texans (4-0)
Injuries: none for the Texans Ahman Green comes back this week; Tony Ugoh out 2 weeks for the Colts with bruised Ribs...
Game Preview:
hopefully with ahman green coming back he can bring some new life to the puttering texans rushing attack...with Chris Henry now on the team defenses arent gonna be able to key in on just stopping andre johnson cause owen daniels is also emerging as a top tightend in the league...hopefully mario williams will show up this week so far this season he has only 1 sack throughout four games...Teams now need to gameplan for Amobi Okoye cause not only does he get to the Quarterback but he also has been in the backfield breaking up numerous running plays so hopefully the emergence of Okoye will open up some one on one situations for Mario Williams...Also lets just hope Peyton Manning doest torch my secondary too bad this week...Comment

Re: Houston Texans: Turning them into a Champion (madden 09)
Game 5: Colts @ Texans
Score
Colts-27
Texans-26
Game Leaders
passing: (IND)Peyton Manning (28-41) 315yrds 2TDs 3INTs
rushing: (HOU)Steve Slaton 27att 76yrds
recieving: (IND)Marvin Harrison 6rec 117yrds 2TDs
Game Recap: This game was basically a shoot-out between Peyton Manning and Matt Schaub, Schaub went (21-37) for 234yrds matching peyton with 2td's and 3ints...there was virtually no rushing from either side Joseph Addai went for 34yrds on 17attempts, while slaton struggled to get his 76yrds...Fullback Vonte Leach added a rushing touchdown from the 1yrd line...for the second game in a row Andre Johnson failed to reach 100yrds recieving but he did account for one of Matt Schaubs touchdown passes...Chris Henry missed the entire 4th quarter with a brusied sternum and that hurt the Texans passing attack because Kevin Walter had to step into the #2 slot...Owen Daniels continues to be one of Matt Schaubs favorite targets 3rec 43yrds 1TD...Slaton had 117 all purpose yards adding 41 recieving yrds to his 76yrds rushing...The Texans had a chance to win the game with 10seconds left in the game but kicker Kris Brown missed a 40yrds Field Goal...In other news the return on Ahman Green lasted 1 play in which he rushed for 3yrds and then got injuryed and will be out for 2 more weeks...on the defensive side of the ball the Texans really never got a pass rush going as Mario Williams was the only one who got to Peyton Manning, but it was a crucial sack as it was also a safety...Demeco Ryans, Dunta Robinson, and Fredd Bennett each had an INT for the Texans...
Next Game: Dolphins(1-3) @ Texans(4-1)
Injuries: Texans, Ahman Green-Hip Pointer-out for 2 weeks; Dolphins, CB Travis Daniels-Broken Ribs-out 1 more week
Game Preview: Hopefully the Texans can turn things around against the Dolphins and wont make a habit out of losing...The Texans defense will have another challenge for them this week against the 2 headed rushing attack of Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams, they have combined for 471yrds and 2tds in 4 games both averaging over 4 yards per carry..***mors around the league are that the Texans have brought in a couple Runningbacks to see which one might be the best fit to help this feeble rushing attack out...Comment
