The Official Jason Skyland BAP Thread

Well since October is coming quicker than ever, I should start this up right about now. Until I get my hands on the game, it'll pretty much be stories.

Re: The Official Jason Skyland BAP Thread

It was about 5:00 a.m when I woke up from a nightmare. I was just drafted by my favorite team, the Pittsburgh Penguins. I started my first game is the Stanley Cup Finals Game 7 on the first line with my hero Sidney Crosby. It was 2-2 tied late in the 3rd Period against the Detroit Red Wings and I had the puck on a breakaway and Osgood looked shaky, but then suddenly my skates turned a different way and was skating through the players toward Marc-Andre Fleury. Crosby and Malkin’s face had horrid written all over it as the puck slid in our own net. What hurt me the most is when I saw Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk both laughing at me. The whole crowd booed me out of the arena as i left in shame.

My mother walked into my room with two cups of hot chocolate. “Bad dream eh? She said while handing me my cup of chocolatey goodness. “Yea, when I see Zetterberg in the NHL, one punch is all I’ll need, I mean IF I do” I responded. “You’ll do fine, I promise” she said with a twinkle in her light blue eyes. “I really hope your promise comes true” I said with a slight smile. “Well get up we should go over the Scotiabank Place soon enough” she said patting my legs over the sheets.

I was so nervous walking into the arena that would decide my fate in the NHL. My brother Nick was told to go straight to the arena because he’s have a little trouble with the law that has to do with Scotiabank Place(e.g smuggling popcorn, selling tickets to season games without a permit). My father was shaking hands with many Gm’s who knew him from over his career and my mother saying hello to Nick Barry’s parents, Nick Barry is a very good friend of mine.

The Devils went up to the podium first up to use the first pick. There were alot of possibilities for the 1st Pick. The Next Russian Rocket Ivan Shertok or the most favoured Steven Stamkos. Is it possible to be either me or Nick. Or even that 19 year old, Bryan Hurst I think his name it is. Lou Lamoriello walked up to the podium to announce the 1st pick. “The New Jersey Devils are proud to select with the 1st Pick.....” . The tension really started to increase. “....Ivan Shertok from the Russian leagues!!” The black haired russian walked up to the Devils staff with confidence so high it could be mistaken for cockyness. I could have sweared that he stuck his tongue out at me as he passed.

The team I was hoping so hard to get drafted by packed up their things and stepped up to the podium. Ray Shero is was carefully followed by Penguins legend Mario Lemieux and a person no one expected to be there, Captain Sidney Crosby stepped up the three small stairs. Ray Shero announced about how the Penguins got the second overall pick from the Los Angeles Kings. Mario Lemieux then stepped up to announce who’d be the next Pittsburgh Penguin. Most people eyes started to wander off to draftees such as Nikita Filatov and Steven Stamkos, both who were expected to be drafted early. Yet still I couldn’t take my eyes off first pick Shertok. I took my eyes off him for a moment to look at Nick for a second, who was showing that he agreed that Shertok stuck his tongue out. But all eyes went to the podium when Lemieux was about to announce the second pick in the 1st Round. “The Pittsburgh Penguins are proud to draft with the second pick...” Lemieux started but then backed away as Crosby made his way to the microphone. “....Jason Skyland from the OHL!!!” Crosby announced. Both parents leaped to their feet to hug me. I was completely stunned to hear my name being drafted, and none other by Penguins and Crosby. Nick practically bear hugged me and said quietly “don’t worry, soon enough you’ll be congratulating be into the NFL”. As I made my way towards the Penguins staff and Sid The Kid, I gave Nick Barry a quick high-five. It was like nothing else when I shook hands with Sidney Crosby. I donned my Penguins jersey and even my new hat. As I walked back to my parents, I glared at both Nick and Shertok. One was with hatred and one with excitement, could you guess which one was for who?

Re: The Official Jason Skyland BAP Thread

It was finally over and Nick was now a Los Angeles King, Shertok was of course a New Jersey Devil, and that 19 year old guy was a Chicago Blackhawk. Nick and I walked over to the little mall near our home town but we were not alone. Most people had heard the news that we were starting to be called home town heroes. We had a huge party down at a hall to celebrate Nick and I’s drafted. Even though we’ll be in seperate confrences we’ll hope to see eachother in All-Star games and hopefully, Cup finals. I slept almost the whole day as the party completely wore me out. I woke up to find my father telling me that the first week of Training Camp was going to be held in Denver, Colorado. Only trouble was that I had to get the money for a plane from Ottawa all the way to Colorado. My parents aranged ,without me knowing what was going on, a donation event to fly me to Colorado. By the time I found out, they already got enough for both Nick and I to head off to the Pepsi Center first class.

Re: The Official Jason Skyland BAP Thread

The Plane trip to Colorado was amazing, but I knew I had to make my hometown proud since they donated all that money for this plane trip. It would be pretty sad to donate money to a rookie player who spends his whole career playing in the minors. I promised to myself and to all the people that I will not be in the AHL that long. Nick would be in Manchester after he finished up in Colorado. The kid Jeff Shannon actually did go to my high school and he’s pretty good. Since he got drafted by Vancouver, he’ll be heading off to Manitoba and I’ll be heading off to Wilkes-Barre. The Plane settled to the ground and it was time to live my dream, walk the path as an NHLer

Steven Stamkos and Ivan Shertok had seemed to have started an alliance and thought they ruled over the dressing room thinking people were actually listening to them. Bryan Hurst was the most quiet person I’ve ever saw, just concentrating on himself and his own skills. Jeff Shannon had seemed to let loose a little, but still didn’t put himself out there to make anymore friends in the room. Well I shouldn’t be talking, the only one i’ve talked to so far is Nick and Nikita Filatov, who was a little tough to have a nice, flowing conversation with. Colorado Avalanche superstar Joe Sakic came in and announced “Ok guys, it’s time to get kicking out there”. I ran out the dressing room and stepped onto the ice, prepared to give it my all.

The first week seemed to fly by so quickly. By the time it ended, I felt like a whole new person, a better player than ever. I became faster, stronger, the best I’ve ever felt in my life. I got to see when Avalanche stars such as Peter Forsberg and even Adam Foote. Nick became an even harder checker (if that’s even possible). It was about time to pack it up and head off our different paths. Lucky Nick gets to stay with Jeff in his confrence and I get stuck with Shertok, and what’s even worst is that he’s in my division. Oh well, good things always have to end at some time. A bad thing that happened is that I accidently broke my stick on a huge slap shot that I got during my training there. I was walking down a floor in a mall in Colorado, wondering whether I should buy a souvenir now or wait until I’m in Colorado for an NHL game or something. Then it hit me, I NEEDED AN AGENT. How could I have forgotten, what if Pittsburgh decides to give me a contract and I have no way to understand what to do. I then saw a familiar face in GameStop, it was Bryan Hurst. “Hey Bryan, what are you doing here?” I asked. “Nothing much, planning on buying NHL 08 or Madden 09” he responded “Have you gotten an agent yet” I asked him to see if I’m the only one still without an agent. “Yea, his name is Pete Satt” he said not even looking me in the eye. “So I guess I’m the only one without an agent” I said, feeling down. “Why don’t you ask Pete”? he said. “I don’t know” I responded, thinking.

“Really DAD, YOU ROCK SO MUCH, thank you, thank you, and thank you” I said as I hung up the phone on the plane. My dad had just told me good news that he had gotten his old agent to become my new agent. His name is Bill Crossley, he helped my dad make the right choices with re-signing and signing with teams. I planned to head over back to home to spend at least a couple weeks at school with some friends. But for now, on to Pittsburgh to live me dream.
I landed in Pittsburgh with full confidence in my new found abilities. I met right off the bat with Sergei Gonchar and Darryl Sydor who taught us about being a full two way player. We then met offensive players such as Evgeni Malkin and Jordan Staal about being able to being snipers and checkers. Then we got to meet Sidney Crosby and the all-time greatest Penguin ever, Mario Lemieux about being a threat on the ice at all times. It was over and I was to return to Ottawa until the NHL season start. Hopefully by the time I come back, I won’t be smothered by crowds of fans.
