A True Story. A tale of rebuilding the hopeless Detroit Lions!!!

(NFL HEAD COACH 09) OK, so I created a new coach(Ken Law) and gave us Holmgrens West Coast and Jags physical D. I started out during the offseason(wouldve started at preseason, but whenever I did, Gosder Cherilous wouldnt be on my team or for that matter he wouldnt even be in the league. I Tried and tried but he never showed up.) Mack Miller said this regarding the hiring of Law, "Ken Law is a great guy and and even better coach. He is a former college star. Rod just wasnt our guy anymore. Ken will take us where we need to go with this team. It may be a rocky start, but he will get the job done." {Reporter} Ken, what do you see as an immediate thing you would like to do with this team? "Well we have a lot of things to fix. We need help on the defensive side of the ball, a tight end and some o-line help. That will be my focus going into FA and the draft."

So the offseason starts. And it starts with a bang! The Lions announce the signing of ROLB Lance Briggs to a 5yr/$51M contract with a 10M bonus. {Reporter} Lance, out of every team in the league, why did you chose this Detroit Lions team? "I believe! I believe in what Ken Law will do for this team. We has sold me on the diection he wants to go with the players and this team. I want to be on the team when we turn this ship around." Detroit has also announced the signings of Ken Hamlin(4yrs/$17M 2.5M bonus), Brian Kelly(1yr/$3M 1M bonus), Matt Prater(1yr/$1M .5K bonus) coincidentally Ty Law(1yr/$3.5M .5K bonus).

A couple days after these signings Detroit has traded a 5th round pick(2008) and a 4th round pick(2009) to New England for Kevin Faulk. "We need a new running back for this team has we only have Brian Calhoun. We can't just carry one. Kevin is a veteran of this league and will help us out greatly. He's a quick, agile back that will help us get to where we want to go." Detroit also traded a 6th round pick(2009) to Philadelphia for QB, AJ Feeley. Then Kansas City offered a trade involving Bernard Pollard. We came to this trade: Dwight Smith, 5th round pick(2009) to KC for Bernard Pollard.

    DRAFT TIME:
1st round pick: Lawrence Jackson(LE-88 pot.) We needed help at pretty much every possable position. Jackson is just the start of this process.
*(Detroit trades a 4th rounder this year, 7th(2009) and Jon Kitna to San Fran for their 2nd round pick(#39).)
2nd round pick: Calais Campbell(RE-93 pot.) Again we needed help every on this team and mostly on the d-line. Lawrence and Campbell are our bookends of the future.
*(Detroit trades their 2nd rounder(#39) to Dallas for their 2nd(#56) and 3rd(#92).)
2nd round pick: Andre Woodson(QB-93 pot.) We traded Kitna. We needed our QB of the future and we got him.
3rd round pick: Xavier Adibi(LB-82 pot.) Our LB's are terrrible outside of Ernie. Plain and simple
3rd round pick: Dwight Lowery(CB) This might have been a reach, but he has been pretty good at this so far this preseason and we desperately needed secondary help.
3rd round pick: Athya Rubin(DT) HE too has shown flashes of great upside this preseason. We have very little to no depth at defensive tackle.
5th round pick: John Sullivan(C-83 pot.) Backup to Dom. Raiola. Raiola may not be around much longer and Sullivan was compaired to Kevin Mawae.

    UNDRAFTED FA's: Tony Bake(DE-86 pot.), Alexis Serna(K), Caleb Campbell(SS), Jamaal Buckingham(HB-85 pot.), Mark Croxdale(FB)

"I like our draft. We got guys that will help our team out a whole lot this season and that are future stars of the league. There is more to come." - Law and Miller on the draft

After the draft, The Lions traded Kenoy Kennedy to Philadelphia for a 3rd round pick(2010)

    Rookie Contacts:
    Lawrence Jackson: 5yrs/16.41M 5.5M bonus
    Calais Campbell: 4yrs/4.03M 1.5M bonus
    Andre Woodson: 4yrs/3.78M 1M bonus
    Xavier Adibi: 3yrs/2.09M .5K bonus
    Athya Rubin: 3yrs/2.01M
    John Sullivan: 3yrs/1.17M
    Dwight Lowery: 3yrs/1.8M

After the draft, the Lions made two trades: Trading a 5th round pick(2010) to Atanta for Jonathan Babineaux(DT). The second trading a 4th round pick(2010) to the Jags for Marcedes Lewis(TE)

We cut Matt Prater and Sean McHugh(notables)

Re: A True Story. A tale of rebuilding the hopeless Detroit Lions!!!

    PRESEASON:
    Game 1 vs the Colts(Box-score):
    AJ Feeley: 7-15, 2 INT
    Drew Stanton: 4-4, 169 yrds, 2TD
    Andre Woodson: 1-2, 35 yrds, 1 INT
    K.Faulk: 17 att., 25 yrds
    Roy W.: 6 rec., 145 yrds, 1 TD
    C.J: 2 rec., 88 yrds, 1TD
Drew Stanton looked like a future star QB in this game, but you cant take anything out of the 1st preseason game.
    LOST 42-17

    Game 2 @CN( Box-Score):
    Feeley:7-21, 101 yrds, 1 INT
    Stanton: 4-5, 88 yrds, 1TD
    Woodson: 1-4, 17 yrds
    K.Faulk: 20 att., 72 yrds
    CJ: 2 rec, 97 yrds, 1TD
    Calab Campbell/D.Lowery/Bodden- 1 INT each
Stanton again looked good, albeit limited action. Draft picks Lowery and Caleb Campbell showed promise as well.
    LOST 27-17

    Game 3 vs Cle.(Box-Score):
    Feeley:0-1, 1 INT
    Stanton: 10-17, 329 yrds, 4TD, 1 INT (Sacked 6 times)
    Woodson: 5-12, 91 yrds, 1 INT
    K.Faulk: 16 att., 120 yrds, 1TD
Calhoun: 10 att., 49 yrds, 1TD (Long run: 47 yrds)
    CJ: 3 rec., 137 yrds, 2TD
    Roy: 2 rec., 95 yrds, 2TD
This was a tough game. Stanton again looked great, but he doesnt show the presance to get rid of the ball(or scrammble) when a guy is right in front of his face.
    LOST 52-45

After the game, we cut (TE) Dan Campbell which saves us some money. We then signed Brandon Meriweather(CB) and George Wrightster(TE-1yr/3M .5K bonus)

    Game 4 @ Buf(Box-Score):
    Stanton: 8-12, 204 yrds, 2TD
    Woodson: 4-5, 66 yrds, 1 TD(5 rush att., 10 yrds, 1TD)
    K.Faulk: 18 att., 74 yrds
    Calhoun: 15 att., 74 yrds
    CJ/Wrighster/McDonald - 1 TD each
    Bodden - 2 INT, 1TD
Again, Stanton looked like he will lead this team for this season with another strong game. Woodson showed some ability with his play.
    WON 38-31(they had 2 late TD's)

NOTES: Running between the guards is really good for us. Running out behind the tackles is not so good for us. We still nee lots of help at our offensive tackle position, defensive back position, and we ngo get more pressure on the QB with our defensive tackles. Cut Daniel Bullocks.

Re: A True Story. A tale of rebuilding the hopeless Detroit Lions!!!

        Regular Season:

Game 1 @ ATL: It was back and forth throughough the game. We were up 27-21 lat in the 4th. They ended up scoring the go-ahead TD with 1:30 left in the game. I for sure thought we were gonna lose this one. BUT Woodson had other ideas. We ended up scoring the game-winning TD with :27 seconds left in the game. "It was crazy! We were up, then down, then right back up again. It was a great game."- Andre Woodson on todays game. Coach Ken Law said this about Andre Woodsons poise late in the game, "He was great. Only about 2 or 3 other QB's in this league could have done what Andre did late in this game. He played the last 2 minutes like he had been in the league for 10 years."
        WON 34-31
        Stanton: 1-5
        Woodson: 14-25, 236 yrds, 3TD
        Calhoun: 16 att., 47 yrds
Faulk: 7 att., 17 yrds (3 Fumbles, 2 went for TDs)
        McDonald: 5 rec., 121 yrds, 1 TD
        C.J/Furrey: 1 TD each
        Babineaux/L.Jackson: 1 sack each
        Drummond: 99 yrd KR TD

After the game, Law named Andre Woodson his new starting QB and Brian Calhoun his new starting HB.

My rating at the start of the season was 66. After the game, my rating was at 92.

Andre Woodson wins NFC Offensive Player of the Week

Re: A True Story. A tale of rebuilding the hopeless Detroit Lions!!!

          Game 2 vs Green Bay:
When one of your first plays of the game goes for a 68 yard TD run, you know its gonna be a good game."I just hit the hole, then took the run to the outside. I was gone after that. They dont have anyone that can run with me." - Brian CAlhoun on his 68 yard TD run. It was sort of a laugher being up 21-3 into the late 3rd early 4th. To Green Bays credit they gave Detroit a run for their money. They made it close in the late stages of the game but falling short. "Im just glad coach gave me a chance. He gave me the starting back job, and I ran with it. LOL Literally. Im here to stay!!!" - Brian Calhoun on his new starting role.
          Woodson: 11-22, 150 yrds, 1TD, 2 INT (7 rush att., 22 yrds)
          Calhoun: 36 att., 191 yrds, 2TD(1 fumble)
          McDonald: 8 rec., 109 yrds, 1TD
          Sims: 12 TKL's, 4 TFL
          Briggs/Calais Campbell: 1 sack each
          WON 21-18

Calhoun wins Offensive player of the week honors.

NOTES: Our LB's and DB's can get their hands on the ball, but for some reason they CAN NOT intercept the ball. Our WR's and TE's have a hard time with drops. They also have a hard time hanging onto the ball. Not good for us. Hanson is missing pretty easy FG's(a 44 yarder this past game). Am gonna inactivate him and try Serna next game.

ALSO I need some help. Is their a way; and how, do you re-sign players during the season? Or do you have to wait til the end of the season? ALSO, is their a way to fire the GM during the season or do you again have to wait til after the season? Thanks

Around the trade deadline, the re-sign player clipboard items pop up, and will keep appearing until the playoffs. You have to have deals done by the playoffs, unfortunately. Also, the only guys that pop up are guys on the last year of their deal.

Thanks for the info. They want me to re-sign Hanson but im trying to trade him. His leg is bad in the game. I have Serna whos leg is automatic. Hanson misses Fg's from like 35+.. What you think of the team so far?

                  Game 3 @ San Fran:
                  Woodson: 9-19, 151 yards, TD,3 INT
                  Calhoun: 19 att., 57 yards
                  Faulk: 16 att., 53 yards
                  McDonald: 1TD
                  Cala.Campbell/Lawrence Jackson: 2 sacks ea.
                  Hamlin: 2 INT
                  Sims/Bodden: 1 INT ea.
                  WON 6-0
"This was a really tough game for both sides. We just happened to get that one good play in. I give the 49ers all the credit, they're a really good football team." - Coach Ken Law about the 49ers. {Reporter} Calais, what do you think of the terrible two-some of Lawrence Jackson and yourself? "Its great. We push each other to be better then the other. We are really close, being that we were drafted together and are roomates. That bring that bond together for us. We will be around for a long time. So the league better take notice."

                  Game 4 vs Chicago:
                  Woodson: 13-19, 157 yards, 5TD
                  Calhoun: 36 att., 189 yards
                  C.Johnson: 7 rec., 91 yards, 3TD
                  M.Lewis/Wrighster: 1 TD ea.
                  Redding/Cala.Campbell: 2 sacks ea.
                  Sims/Lenon: 1 sack ea.
                  Pollard: 11 TKL, 2 FF
                  WON 35-10
"This feels great. At Kentucky, we were good in spurts. Here, we are just getting into our groove. Hopefully we will be winning for some time now. W are on a roll right now and we have to give credit to the coach. He gets us prepaired each and every week. So thanks coach." - Andre Woodson on his teams winning streak. {Reporter} Cory(Redding) howdoes it feel after a dominating performance like this one today? "Its awesome. When you dominate someone, your letting them know that they can't beat you. You know all their secrets pretty much. Its even better against a division rival like the Bears!"

Bernard Pollard wins the Defensive Player of the Week honors
"This is a fantastic feeing to be recognized like this. I just wanna thank the coach for getting us prepaired as well as he does. Also, i couldnt have done it with out our d-line getting the pressure that they do on the QB."

Re: A True Story. A tale of rebuilding the hopeless Detroit Lions!!!

So we have won 4 in a row. The team is looking great. We still need more pressure out of our defensive tackles. Only our ends are getting the pressure for us right now. Are linebackers and defensive backs are stil having a hard time picking the passes off. They get their hands on the ball but cant pull it in. And our receivers and tight ends are still having the same issues with drops and fumbles. Dont necessarily know how to fix that right now though. Im at the point at which i can re-sign players. They want me to re-sign Hanson. But i have Serna who has a by far better leg then Hanson. So what i may do is sign him with a low bonus and still try and trade him for picks this draft as i only have my 1st 3 pick in this draft. Im going to keep Roy Williams. I had him on the trading block for the longest time, but teams were only offering 5th's and lower. We have a young team who are playing like veterans. My focus in the draft will be on a CB, DT, LB, MLB, RG and a Punter who has a stronger leg then Nick Harris who constantly shanks the punt.

You have to wait in the preseason for your 1st and 2nd round picks to come to you and ask for a contract. They wont be there until they approach you, about 3-4 days in traininc camp, and once you agree on a contract they join your team. Or they holdout if you dont agree on a contract

After game 4, I was able to re-sign players. Here are the players I re-signed:
                              Jonathan Babineaux: 2yrs/1.24M 500K bonus
                              Jonathan Scott: 5 yrs/14.3M 3.5M
                              Alexis Serna: 3yrs/5.1M 1M
Tony Bake: 2yrs/.58K 100K(wish I could sign longer)
                              Jansen: 3yrs/3.25M .25K
                              Brian Kelly: 2yrs/4.82M 1M
                              George Wrighster: 2yrs/6M 2.5M
Thats it so far. Still in negotiations with a few more players.

                              Game 5 @Minnesota:
It was a close game. Back and forth it went. When this happened late in the 4th quarter. Woodson connected with McDonald for a TD with 1:14 left on the clock(1st play after we got the ball back). This was right after Minny scored on me. Then they marched down the field and ended up scoring with :11 seconds left on the clock.
                              Woodson: 18-28, 452 yrds, 6TD, 2 INT
                              Calhoun: 20 att., 107 yrds(2 fumbles returned for TD's)
                              McDonald: 3 rec., 156 yrds, 2TD
                              C.Johnson: 5 rec., 130 yrds, 1TD
                              Roy: 5 rec., 85 yrds, 2TD
                              M.Lewis: 1TD
                              DeVries: 3 sacks
                              Babineaux/Sims/Cala.Campbell: 1 sack ea.
                              LOST 48-45
"It was a tough game. We fought tooth and nail and just came up short. Minnesota played a hell of a game. We will look for revenge next time we meet." - Andre Woodson on todays game.{Reporter} Andre, you had a great game. Can you tell us about that? "It doesnt mean a d@*n thing. We lost!!!! Statistics dont mean anything if we dont win!" Brian Calhoun had this to say to our reporters, "I put this loss on me. I fumbled twice and they recovered both for touchdowns. Its squarely on me!"

Andre Woodson would later be fined $10,000 for his language after the game.

After the game I signed corner back Antrel Rolle to our squad. Ty Law had gotten injured in the game and was put on IR. I signed Rolle to a 1yr/510K deal

Game 6 @Houston: I knew todays game would be a great game right from the start. I lost the flip and they chose to receive. On their 1st series, we started of with 2 straight sacks. "It was great! We knew it would be a hell of a game." - Calais Campbell on the start of todays game. On their 2nd series, their first play was a run. They would fumble that run play and we recovered. Andre Woodson would throw a TD to McDonald off of the turnover. "Its great when your opponent just gives you a 7 point lead like they did." On Houstons 2nd play of their third series, luck didnt change. They would again fumble and we would recover again. Roy Williams would get a 2 yard rush TD. They would later make it a close game, as our D would let up in the late stages of the game.
                              WON 38-31
                              Woodson: 18-32, 248 yrds, 3TD, 1INT
                              Croxdale: 20 att., 80 yrds, 1TD
                              McDonald: 8 rec., 132 yrds, 1TD
Roy Williams: 2TD(1 rush, 1 Receiving)
                              Wrighster: 1TD
                              Calais Campbell: 4 sacks
                              Bake: 3 sacks
                              D.White: 2 sacks
                              Lenon/Briggs: 1 sack ea.
                              Hamlin: 2FF(1FR)
                              B.Kelly: 1FR
                              Sims: 1FF(1FR)

"With Lawrence Jackson sidelined these past few weeks, Calais has really stepped up his game. We may have the defensive rookie of the year and possably defensive player of the year right hear in Detroit." - Coach Ken Law on Calais Campbells play this season.

I am currently trying to trade Kevin Faulk. He fumbles just way to much for my liking. I also re-signed Hanson, but for a low bnus and am trying to trade him as well. We are now 5-1 on the season. It looks like I may actually turn this thing around sooner then I thought.
