Raptors pound first place Celtics in Toronto

    @

Earlier this week, Boston beat Toronto in a low scoring affair at the Fleet Center. This game was different. Raja Bell was responsible for holding Paul Pierce. He didn't exactly do his job, but everybody else did...

At half time, the Raptors were beating the Celtics in every category. Raptors were place 13 in bench scoring, plus 10 in assist (18 to 8) and led 50-34.

This was a cakewalk for the Raptors. The Celtics didn't have any inside presence to cause problems for the Davis-less Raptors. Raptors win this one easily, 91-66.

    Vince Carter - 15 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assist
    Moochie Norris - 15 points, 4 rebounds, 7 assist
    Aaron McKie - 14 points
    Jelani McCoy - 11 rebounds

    Paul Pierce - 32 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assist
    Antoine Walker - 12 points, 13 rebounds
    Shammond Williams - 0 points (0-13 fg's), 3 assist, 6 TO's

These two teams know each other real well in the front office. Some people say that Toronto robbed Houston in the deal that was made earlier this season (Griffin and Norris to Toronto for Alvin Williams and Peterson). Tonight we will who's team is better, and who got the better end of the deal.

It was a slow game to start with, but near the end of the first quarter, Houston started hitting outside shots. Dell Curry (aslo acquired from Toronto) made 3 straight 3 point shots at one point. Houston took a 24-18 lead at one point.

The second quarter was ALL Yao Ming. He leads All-Rookies in Points per game and rebounds per game. The second quarter was all his. He scored the Rockets last 12 points to end the quarter. Toronto found themselves down 52-31 at intermission.

Things got a little better in the third quarter, as Vince Carter strictly took over for about 4 minutes. He scored all 19 of his points in the 3rd quarter, but it got even worse from there. Houston simply shot Toronto out of this game to start with. Houston wins 100-75.

        Yao Ming - 32 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assist
        Glen Rice - 21 points (4-7 3fg's), 7 rebounds, 4 steals
        Steve Francis - 4 points, 12 assist
        Alvin Williams - 5 points, 7 assist, 6 rebounds

        Vince Carter - 19 points (6-30 fg's)
        Eddie Griffin - 9 points, 7 rebounds
        Moochie Norris - 7 assist, 7 TO's
        Aaron McKie - 11 points, 4 assist, 4 rebounds

                Raptors win against red-hot Grizzlies

                @

The two newest NBA franchise, new and improved each, go head-to-head in a battle up north. The Grizzlies have had critics scratching their head, wondering how they've been so good this year.

"We've just been playin' with a winnin' attitude, and we're winnin', so that's all there is to it" says Jason Williams before the game.

The game started out as a brickfest. Memphis shot a horried 30% from the field, and Toronto shot worse, at 25%. In the second quarter, things were different, however.

Toronto's outside shots still weren't falling, but the turned to Jelani McCoy as their inside scoring presence. McCoy finished with a double-double, 18 points and 10 rebounds. Pau Gasol couldn't get anything going until the second half.

Toronto's big men patrolled the lane once again, and Gasol had a bad night. Gasol shot 7/30. However, he did grab 14 rebounds.

Each team's bench played a big role in this game. Toronto's supporting cast of McKie, Walt Williams, Jerome Williams and Nate Huffman did their part. McKie led the second unit in scoring the basketball, while Walt Williams played good zone defense at 2-guard.

Memphis had Eric Watson as their big-time bench producer this game. As Jason Williams had a bad night scoring, Watson picked up the slack, with 8 assist.

In the final minutes of the game, Moochie Norris accounted a 4-point play that would put the game out of reach. Toronto wins under the knife, 105-99.

                Vince Carter - 25 points, 8 assist, 9 rebounds
                Moochie Norris - 18 points, 10 assist
                Jelani McCoy - 18 points, 10 rebounds
                Aaron McKie - 14 points, 5 assist, 5 rebounds

                Michael Dickerson - 21 points, 5 assist
                Pau Gasol - 20 points, 14 rebounds
                Eric Watson - 8 assist

Raptors get Blazed at the Rose Garden...

                    @

The last time these two teams met, the Raptors manhandled Portland. Rasheed Wallace had a good game, however, with 20 rebounds. He didn't disappoint this game, either.

Moochie Norris limped through this whole game with a sprained ankle that will only keep his status as 'Day to Day'. Aaron McKie played a lot more minutes, and by himself, he kept the Raptors in this game until the end. Vince Carter had a pretty good game, but it was countered by the fellow Tarheel, Rasheed Wallace. Wallace had 22 points with 18 rebounds. Bonzi chipped in with 17 points along with 7 assist.

The Blazers held off a run by the Raptors at the end of the game, and they take the win, 103-95.

                    Rasheed Wallace - 22 points, 18 rebounds
                    Derek Anderson - 21 points
                    Bonzi Wells - 17 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assist

                    Vince Carter - 21 points, 8 rebounds
                    Eddie Griffin - 17 points, 6 rebounds
                    Aaron McKie - 13 points, 6 assit, 3 steals

Iverson overtakes Vince Carter for PPG

The 2-time defending Scorng Champion had to play with a limp all year long. He trailed Vince Carter for the PPG title until now, in which he leads the league in scoring again, with 30.1 in front of Vince Carter (28.7)

Vince Carter would definitlely love to brag about his team more than Allen Iverson would this year. Toronto hasn't fallen out of the playoff race yet this year, as the Sixers have been struggling to even get in at 8th. Still with 20 more games left to play in this season, a lot of things could happen.

                            EASTERN CONFERENCE BREAKDOWN:
                            - The Nets have had a rather disappointing season following "Jason Kidd for the second straight year. He's stated he might leave, because everybody is just watching him play, like he's Michael Jordan.

                            - Even after making questionable off-season moves, they lead the East currently. They've played their best, consistent basketball in the past decade. Jim O'Brien will definitely get looks for the Coach of the Year. Paul Pierce, the All-Star MVP is making a run for the League MVP for 2003.

                            - Grant Hill has finally been healthy for most of this year. He suffered a sprained wrist, but he was only out for 4 weeks. HE's back to full health, and if he's healthy come play-off time, this can be a scary team. Tracy McGrady's scoring average has actually went DOWN, but nobody is complaining, because this team is winning.

                            - Pretty good team in the East. This is definitely a team you want to stay away from come play-off team. During stretches this season, the whole team caught fire, and they won 8 straight games at one point. However, Antonio Davis recently went down for the season, making this team vulnerable inside, since they aren't that deep of a team as for as talent goes inside.

                            WESTERN CONFERENCE BREAKDOWN
                            - Best team in the league right now. A lot of analyst's picks to win the Western Conference. Defense has gotten way better, and they are having their best season so far, with a 40-19 record at the moment.

                            - The most surprising, and still an underrated ball-club. They will wreak havoc in the playoffs, but still too young to win it all. It is the beginning of a successful dynasty in Memphis. Watch out!

                            - The bottom line is, they play when they want to. Currently hanging on to the 8th spot at the moment, this team has to turn things around and play better than they have been. That's all there is to it.

They will most likely make the playoffs, something they've done consistenly. They've always been a lower seed, however, and this year, they sit in 2nd place as we speak. Gary Payton has done a good job leading this young ball club, and the Sonics may very well be a favorite to win the Pacific Division. Cheers to Gary Payton!
