Yankees Take a 3-2 Lead Heading Back to Fenway!

Red Sox at Yankees Game 5 (Series Tied at 2-2)
      Mussina vs. Wakefield

The Yankees pounded out 14 hits, and Wakefield didn't make it past the 4th inning as the Yankees moved one game away from the World Series with a 8-3 win. Sheffield went deep twice to lead the Yankees, while homeruns by Manny and Nomar were the only runs for Boston. The game 6 matchup will feature Martinez vs. Vazquez.

      W Mussina (2-1)
      L Wakefield (1-1)

      Yankees lead Red Sox 3-2
      Astros lead Cardinals 3-2

The Curse Continues! Yankees Go to the World Series!

Yankees at Red Sox Game 6 (Yankees lead 3-2)
            Martinez vs. Vazquez

In the first inning, after 2 strikeouts by Pedro, things began to unravel for Boston. Rodriguez hit a triple over the head of Johnny Damon. Sheffield then doubled him home off the monster. Posada followed with a ground rule double, and just like that the Yankees had a 2-0 lead. That would be all Javier Vazquez would need, as he pitched 7.2 shutout innings. In the bottom of the 8th Gabe Whit relieved him and got a huge strike out of David Ortiz with 2 men on. The Yankees would add 2 insurance runs in the top of the 9th, again thanks to doubles from Arod and Sheffield, and Rivera would pitch a perfect 9th. The Yankees then celebrated on the field, as the Fenway faithful stood and watched, stunned that their team had blown a series that they had such a firm handle on.

            W Vazquez (2-1)
            L Martinez (0-1)

            World Series
            Yankees vs. Cardinals

                  Yankees at Cardinals Game 1

This one was scoreless until the 6th, when a Yankee rally was started by Kevin Brown of all people. Brown doubled, Jeter doubled, Arod doubled, Sheffield homered, and the Yankees led it 4-0. That lead held up until the 9th, when the Cardinals rallied and cut it to 4-3, with the bases loaded and 2 outs. Mariano Rivera got Pujols to fly out to deep center and the Yankees hung on to take Game 1.

                  S Rivera

Yea, and the playoffs have been totally different than the regular season. Regular season Arod hit around .260, now he's hitting close to .400. While Jeter who was at the top of the MVP voting all year long in the regular season is hitting below .150. It's weird have everything changed, but it's working. This series should be pretty easy since we already beat the best team in the league, Boston last series. I hope we don't choke like in real life last year though.
