Southern Miss Pulls off Upset, Again
            The Cincinnati Enquirer

Southern Miss, who came into the tournament with the #10 seed, have made a name for themselves. First they knocked off Charlotte the #7 seed, then Memphis the #2 seed, on the Tigers home court. Then tonight they upset the #3 seeded team, Marquette 103-74 in a blowout. Rashaad Carruth and Michael Ford led the Eagles to victory. Carruth had 22 points and hit 5 threes, while Ford had 21 points and grabbed 5 steals. Travis Diener led Marquette with 23 points. Southern Miss will now face Cincinnati, the number one seeded team. With the way Miss has been playing, there is no doubt they could pull off yet another upset. Southern Miss and Cincinnati tip-off at noon, and have a lot to play for. If the Bearcats win, they will be the C-USA champions for the ninth time in ten years, and would win it in their last year in the C-USA.

                                Cincinnati Wins C-USA Title
"Led by James White, the Bearcats won their 9th title in 10 years by defeating Southern Miss 83-52."
                                Sunday March 13th, 2005
                                The Cincinnati Enquirer

James White scored 24 points, and had 3 steals helping the Bearcats take the Conference USA title for the 9th time in 10 seasons. White also picked up the honors as the tournament MVP, by averaging 18 points, 3.3 steals and 4 rebounds a game. Southern Miss had defeated teams like Memphis, Marquette and Charlotte, but looked exhausted against Cincinnati allowing 21 turnovers.

Jason Maxiell and Eric Hicks celebrate after winning the C-USA title.

Southern Miss had been a surprise throughout the whole tournament, but just couldn't get anything to go their way in the championship game. The Bearcats did not have a single turnover, Miss had 21. Cincinnati also had a huge performance from their bench getting 45 points. "The guys deserved this, they fought all year to reach this goal. Hopefully they keep it up in the big dance." Coach Huggins said after the win. The Bearcats will know later today what seed they will have in the NCAA Tournament, and who they will be facing next week.
