                    Cincinnati's Unthinkable Season Continues
"The Bearcats have finally found success in the NCAA Tournament, beating California 79-61 in Texas."
                    Friday March 25th, 2005
                    The Cincinnati Enquirer

Cincinnati has finally reached the Elite Eight after years of failure in the Big Dance. They have had quite an easy road though, they started off with a blowout win over New Hampshire, then fought hard to defeat an up-and-down Pittsburgh team by nine, and tonight rolled over the Golden Bears 79-61, who defeated Louisville in round one. Both Louisville and Michigan St. were knocked out in round one, helping the Bearcats. As for last nights game, Nick Williams led Cincy in scoring with 18 points, and James White added 13.

Jason Maxiell goes up for the dunk, he finished with only 6 points.

Cincinnati only shot 41% from the field, but worked the ball around well, and was able to outscore the Bears in the paint by 10. Cincy also continued their strong defensive play, they had 9 blocks and 25 steals, forcing a total of 27 turnovers as a team, their third highest total all year. The Bearcats also hit 7 three pointers and held Cal to an 0-8 performance from beyond the arch. Next up for Cincy will be probably their hardest test of the season, as they will face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, a team that was apart of last years championship game.

Wow, very nice job. I'm still amazed at how well this is put together.

Good luck against Jarrett Jack and the Ramblin` Wreck.. I'll check to see how things turn out.

Both teams played equal going into halftime, with the score being 35-29 Georgia Tech. The first few minutes of the second half belonged to the Jackets as they turned their 6 point lead into a 15 point lead. With 7:16 left in the half the Bearcats finally became alive. Down 58-43, they put together the biggest run in years, for three straight plays Nick Williams stole the ball from Jack, and hit a three pointer, cutting the score to 58-52. After a Georgia Tech timeout, the Cats continued where the left off, except this time Muhammad had the steals and made a three and a jump shot to cut the score to 58-57. Cincinnati finally took the lead with 3:13 remaining 68-67, but BJ Elder hit a deep three giving the Jackets the lead back 70-68 with 2:56 remaining. James White then had a huge three-point play giving Cincy the lead once again 71-70, after another Georgia Tech timeout, Elder hit another huge jumper, giving the Jackets the lead 72-71 with 1:43 left. Muhammad was then fouled on a blocking foul, and hit both his free-throws to give the Bearcats the lead back 73-72. The Yellow Jackets then took the ball up court and with 0:37 left, Luke Schenscher went up for a shot to give Tech the lead, but it was blocked by Maxiell, probably the biggest play of his career. Armein Kirkland recovered the ball, and was eventually fouled. He hit both free throws and gave the Cats a 75-72 lead with 0:11 left in the game. Jarret Jack took the final three for Georgia Tech, but he shot it to hard and it missed. After the game, Nick Williams said what turned the team around, "Coach Huggins, he reminded us how we got here, and that was because of our defense, we stepped it up, and now are heading to St. Louis." Cincinnati had 3 steals at halftime, but finished with 13, Williams and Muhammad together accounted for 11.

This was by far the craziest basketball game I have played yet...

Wow, huge comeback against the Jackets.. nice.

Good luck against the Orange. Gerry Mac is lethal, and Warrick is an animal on the inside.
