    Conference USA Tournament, Semi-Finals
    #5
    The Pyramid - Memphis, Tennesee

In the semi-finals of the C-USA Tournament, the Marquette Golden Eagles were heavily favored over the Golden Eagles of Southern Miss, but they play the games for a reason; there's always a chance.

The first half seemed to go completely against that, however, as Marquette jumped out to a huge lead against SoMiss. Rashad Carruth, SoMiss' best offensive weapon, was kept in check by Dameon Mason and was basically a nonfactor in the first period. Travis Diener continued his lights-out play, hitting shots, dishing out dimes, and crashing boards like a madman. Going into halftime, Marquette was up by 15.

During the second half, Jasper Johnson for SoMiss took over the painted area. Marquette could do nothing to stop him, and their defense was relatively ineffective all night long. To combat this, however, Marquette played equally as well offensively as their opponents, and beat Southern Miss 69-54.

    Players Of The Game
    MARQ - Travis Diener - 30 points, 4-6 3PT FG, 14 assists, 6 rebounds
    USM - Jasper Johnson - 20 points, 11 rebounds

    MARQ
    Mason - 14 points, 6 rebounds, 5 steals, 3 assists
    Novak - 15 points, 3 steals

    USM
    Carruth - 8 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists
    Singleton - 10 points

      C-USA Tournament Update

In the other semi-final matchup, Louisville beat DePaul handily. Now, in the C-USA Championship Game, the Cardinals go against the surging Marquette Golden Eagles; a Golden Eagles team that has downed Louisville twice this season. Both games between the two schools have been relatively close, so the trophy can go either way.

      Stay tuned.

          Conference USA Tournament Championship
          The Pyramid - Memphis, Tennessee

The Louisville Cardinals and Marquette Golden Eagles squared off for the third time this season, and this time it was for all the marbles; the Conference USA Championship.

Early on, this had all the makings of a high-scoring affair. Travis Diener and Steve Novak led the charge for the Golden Eagles, and were going up against the duo of Francisco Garcia and Taquan Dean for Louisville. The duos battled back and forth, trading baskets and neither playing much defense. The first half was relatively high-scoring, but the Golden Eagles held a 4 point lead.

The second half was pretty much the same, but this time, it was Diener and Dean doing most of the scoring. The two went back and forth, back and forth, but Diener bested his Louisville counterpart. In the end, the Golden Eagles pulled away because of Louisville's desperation foul attempts, and won the championship 94-84.

          Players Of The Game
          MARQ - Travis Diener - 50 points, 4-6 3PT FG, 8 assists
          UL - Taquan Dean - 38 points, 3 assists

          MARQ
          Novak - 25 points, 8 assists
          Mason - 10 points, 7 assists, 7 rebounds, 4 steals

          UL
          Garcia - 26 points, 6 assists, 3 rebounds
          O'Bannon - 9 points, 13 assists

You didn't really have to drop 50 with Diener did you? Be easy on these kids. You're looking at a possible 1 seed in the Big Dance. You should be going to the Final Four.

                          The Play-In Game:

                          Syracuse Regional

Experts see this as a very strong bracket, featuring national powerhouses Kansas, Cincinnati, Oklahoma State, Wake Forest, and North Carolina State. Kansas is the #1 overall seed in this years field of 64, and many are predicting them to go all the way.
