In the semi-finals of the C-USA Tournament, the Marquette Golden Eagles were heavily favored over the Golden Eagles of Southern Miss, but they play the games for a reason; there's always a chance.
The first half seemed to go completely against that, however, as Marquette jumped out to a huge lead against SoMiss. Rashad Carruth, SoMiss' best offensive weapon, was kept in check by Dameon Mason and was basically a nonfactor in the first period. Travis Diener continued his lights-out play, hitting shots, dishing out dimes, and crashing boards like a madman. Going into halftime, Marquette was up by 15.
During the second half, Jasper Johnson for SoMiss took over the painted area. Marquette could do nothing to stop him, and their defense was relatively ineffective all night long. To combat this, however, Marquette played equally as well offensively as their opponents, and beat Southern Miss 69-54.
