Week 3: AT San Francisco 49ers; Game Preview

    SEAHAWKS GAMEDAY

    (1-0) (1-1)

    Week 3
    San Francisco, CA

    GAME NOTES:

    Injured: RB, Noah Herron(R) (OUT)
    Key Players:

    QB, Matt Hasselbeck-
    15/28, 206YDS, 3TD, 3INT, 1FUMB Last Week
RB, Shaun Alexander- 91YDS, 8CAR Last Week
Seattle Offense- 7 Give aways; ranked 2nd in NFL
Seattle Defense- Ranked last in points allowed

Injured: QB, Matt Leinhart (OUT); HB, Kevan Barlow (OUT-Season); OT, Scott Gragg (OUT)
    Key Players:
    QB, Kellen Clemons(R)- 43/68, 391YDS, 2TD, 3INT in 2 NFL Games
RB, Justin Fargas- 190YDS, 2TD in 2 Games

Seattle gets to play a depleted San Francisco offense. With three main players injured on their team, they shall take advantage on the defensive side- something they need. Matt Hasselbeck should have not trouble throwing against the 49er secondary, and if he struggles, Seattle has Chris Leak to fill in.

Seattle should come away with a win in this one.

Re: Week 3: AT San Francisco; Recap

QB Controversy in a Seahawks Win Over 49ers, 20-14

        Week 3
        San Francisco, CA

Matt Hasselbeck was injured early in the 2nd quarter of the game, after throwing 6 for 7. Chris Leak entered the game, and did not impress in place of Hasselbeck. Leak threw 54 yards and 2 interceptions on 7 of 12 throwing. "I was nervous," Leak said in a post game interview, "I really couldn't find my rythm."

By the middle of the fourth quarter, Leak was pulled out of the game. For who, you may ask? Savvy veteran, Trent Dilfer. Dilfer went 3 of 5 for 34 yards and a TD.

The game was a slow paced game, focused on short passes and getting the first down, a lot different from the 'Hawks first two shootout games.
Coach Holmgren said after the game, "It was a different pace, but a win is a win." When asked about the quarterback situation for next week, he stated "We'll have to test Matt (Hasselbeck) first, and if he isn't able to play, we will start Trent (Dilfer), however Chris (Leak) will get some playing time.

The 49ers had some quarterback problems themselves. Kellen Clemons, who started in place of the injured Matt Leinhart, was injured by Seahawks DT, Marcus Tubbs. The 49ers brought Seattle's own, Cody Pickett to replace Clemons. And just like Chris Leak did for Seattle, Pickett folded under pressure. Pickett threw 9 of 19 passses for 83 yards, a TD, and an INT.

The Seahawks rise to 2-1, have a bye in week 4, and play the Broncos in week 5.

        GAME NOTES

The Seahawks had 4 quarterbacks play in the game; Hasselbeck, Dilfer, Leak and Seneca Wallace.
Matt Hasselbeck will under go tests after he tore his pectoral in the game.

QB Kellen Clemons dislocated his elbow, and will be out 4 weeks.

                Week 4 Roster Moves

                Week 4
                Seattle, WA

The Seahawks front office has announced that they have released runningback, Noah Herron. Herron has been injured for 4 weeks, and has no sign of returning into full shape.

To replace the vacant spot, Seattle has signed free agent runningback/fullback, Reuben Droughns for a reported 1.95 million over 3 years with a 270 thousand dollar signing bonus. Droughns will be a backup runningback, fullback, and will work as a kick returner/blocker. He will be used in various "big" formations such as goal line situations.

Also, news has emerged in the quarterback controversy, as Trent Dilfer will start against the Broncos, with Leak as the backup. Matt Hasselbeck, though reported healthy, will sit out a game to nurse an injury.

                        GAME NOTES:

                        Injured: QB, Matt Hasselbeck (DOUBT)
                        Key Players:

                        QB, Trent Dilfer- 3/5, 34YDS, 1TD in Week 3

RB, Shaun Alexander- 6.2AVG in 3 Games
TE, Jerramy Stevens- 13REC, 130YDS; Seattle's leading receiver
Seattle Defenseive Line- Ranked 1st in rushing yards allowed

                        Injured:None
                        Key Players:
QB, Jake Plummer- 67.3 QB rating in 4 games
RB Corps- 508 rushing yards, 4 TD in 4 games; Ranked 5th in NFL
LB, Al Wilson- 28TCKL so far
Broncos Secondary- 5 Interceptions; ranked 10th in NFL

The 'Hawks play a struggling Denver Broncos team, who have an underrated defense. They have a solid secondary and defensive line, who can potentially stop Trent Dilfer's passing.

If Seattle plays smart football, they will win, but this could be an interesting game.

Week 5: AT Denver Broncos; Recap

                            A Hasselbeck-Less Seahawks Defeat Broncos, 20-14

                            Week 5
                            Denver, CO

With Matt Hasselbeck nursing an injury, Coach Mike Holmgren played small ball with Trent Dilfer at QB. Dilfer completed 15 of 19 passes for 136 yards and an INT. Chris Leak came in the middle of the 4th, and went 0 for 2. "I can still play," said Dilfer, "There's still some left in the old tank." His statistics were nothing to brag about, but he pulled out a win nonetheless.

Shaun Alexander led the offense, with 95 yards on 13 carries for a TD.

The highlight of the game was the Seattle defense, who allowed just 13 points. They forced Jake Plummer to a less than stellar performance of throwing 18 for 37 and a TD.

The Seahawks, now 3-1, will have a real challenge in week 6, as they play the 4-1 Vikings in Seattle, which has been labeled the "Game of the Week".

                            GAME NOTES

Matt Hasselbeck will start in week 6, perhaps his last stint as a Seahawk QB.
