    Re: The Daily Oklahoman

Is anyone interested in this? I like writing it, but if nobody likes reading it then what's the point right?

    Well, let me know.

      Re: The Daily Oklahoman

      I'm reading.

Very well done.... must be a lot of work to write up, though.

I hope you keep it going. I've tried a couple dynasties, so I know how it is. Sometimes you wonder if you're just talking to yourself.

Thanks! It doesn't take TOO long. But I think once conference play gets going it will be a lot more fun to write.

ORU star finally has breakout game, scoring 19 en route to a 80-47 win
Luke Spencer-Gardner drives to the basket, he had 10 points on the night

Ken Tutt had his best game of the year, albeit on a poor shooting night. Tutt had 19 on 5-13 shooting and 7-11 from the charity stripe. Joining him in the backcourt was point guard Luke Spencer-Gardner who had 10 points and 6 assists. Backup guard Jonathon Bluitt joined the fun in scoring 16 points off the bench. "I want to get into a rythm" Tutt said after the game. "Once I get my stroke going I think I'm one of the best in the nation."

The dominance of the backcourt was equaled by the frontcourt with all 3 starters recording double doubles. Larry Owens, Caleb Green and Matt Gatsel all had 11 points and Green and Owens had 10 rebounds and Gatsel had 11. The highlight for Gatsel came early in the 2nd half when he stepped out to nail a 3.

"We played very good defense." coach Scott Sutton said. "But our offense was subpar, we got lucky that Loyola had a bad shooting night, so we got a lot of fastbreaks. Once we got into the halfcourt set we bogged down."

Loyola struggled with the man to man defense all game. Their lone bright spot came from forward Blake Schlib scored 14. The only other Rambler in double figures was center Anthony Smith.

The next Oral Roberts game is on the 5th of December when the Golden Eagles take on the 2-2 Golden Hurricanes from Tulsa in an intra-city matchup.

              Cowboys Romp
Oklahoma State's led by Joey Graham's 29 as the Cowboys win 80-59.
Lucas shoots over the defender, scoring one of his 14 points

If nobody thought Joey Graham was a bonafide star by now. This game should have been all the evidence they needed. The star Oklahoma State forward scored 29 points on 8-12 shooting and 10-11 from the free throw line.

Graham needed little help in dispatching of the Cougarsk but he got some with point guard John Lucas and backup guard JamesOn Curry who scored 14 and 12 points respectively.

Besides the 3 in double figures, the rest of the Cowboys were unspectacular. Ivan Mcfarlin had yet another tough game scoring only 6 points on an abysmal 3-10 shooting.

"My teammates give me the ball, and I think I can score everytime I touch it." Joey Graham said after the game. "If I can't we have John (Lucas), JamesOn (Curry) and (Daniel) Bobik, and more that can step up to the plate."

"Their are still some obvious things we need to work on." Coach Eddie Sutton said. " We still turn the ball over way too much. Aaron (Pettway) had 5 by himself today. For a big man that's way too much."

Washington St. stayed with the Cowboys for most of the first half, but senior Cougar guard Thomas Kelati's hot start could not be sustained. After drawing 3 fouls in the first 3 minutes and making all 6 of his free throws, Sutton was forced to play the much taller Stephen Graham on him. Once Graham took over, Kelati was held to just 5 points the remainder of the game.

Oklahoma State next takes on the #8 ranked Orange of Syracuse, the game will be played in Madison Square Garden.

Oral Roberts shown with the Mayor's cup, awarded to the winner or the crosstown rivalry game

John Phillips was, and probably still is disgusted. After a great back and forth game all night long, the Tulsa Hurricanes had the ball with 20 seconds left and a chance for the victory. Starting forward Jarius Glenn, who already had 18 points had a play drawn up for him.

The play imploded from a lazy pass that was deflected from Chris Wallace. A scrum by the free throw line resulted in a desperation pass from Yusuf Baker out to Seneca Collins who missed the wide open 3 from the corner.

"We played well enough to win." Head coach John Phillips said after the game. "I think we are the better team, and I'll think that all year."

The Oral Roberts basketball team have something Phillips and Tulsa don't. Scoreboard. Tulsa did a good job on shutting down Golden Eagle star's Ken Tutt and Caleb Green, but there was one man they left unaccounted for in the last 5 minutes. Eric Fowlkes the back up guard, had back-to-back steals and layups to give Oral Roberts the lead with 1:45 left. The score stayed the same until the end of the game.

Jarius Glenn the game's highest scorer with 18, got little help from his teammates. The only other player with more than 7 points was forward Yusuf Baker, who had 9 points and 6 rebounds, but missed 3 free throws on the game.

Oral Roberts' star Ken Tutt's struggles from beyond the 3 point line continued with a 1-6 shooting night. But he did lead the team with 12 points. Luke Spencer-Gardner, Larry Owens, and Caleb Green all just missed double digits, scoring 9 each.

The loss drops Tulsa's record to 2-3, and improves Oral Robert's to 3-1.

Tulsa next plays the 12th of December against 1-4 Prairie View. Oral Roberts plays again until the 20th when they travel to Georgetown to play the Hoyas.

Eddie Sutton knew before the season began, that with an undersized team like they have, they must block out. Monday night they failed to do that. The Orange had 10 offensive rebounds, 8 coming from forward Hakim Warrick. He also led the team wtih 24 points on 11-13 shooting. Guard Gerry McNamara helped with 19, and Josh Pace and Billy Edelin piled on with 12 and 12 respectively.

Oklahoma State was hampered by poor shooting from beyond the arc. Joey Graham who before the game was a 46% 3 point shooter was 2-7, and John Lucas who had 24 points to lead the team, was 1-3.

Besides the 1-2 punch of Lucas and Graham who had 24 and 23 points in that order, the Oklahoma State offense was lacking. forward Ivan Mcfarlin scored 9 points but was only 1-4 from the free throw line. Joey Graham's twin brother guard Stephen Graham had arguably his best game of the year with 8 points and 4 rebounds.

JamesOn Curry who had only 2 points but only shot once, a layup in the first half, was a point of criticism for Eddie Sutton. "He has to shoot more, he might be the best shooter on the team." Sutton said. "He's not the alltime North Carolina scoring leader for nothing."

This was the Cowboys first loss of the season and drops them to 5-1 for the young season.

Hakin Warrick hammers through one of his 24 points

                      Recruiting Update

                      Oklahoma State:

Losing 7 seniors is a daunting task, but the Cowboys seem to taking up the slack, already receiving 2 commitments. One from Guard/Forward Christano Monserez and the other from Point Guard Steve Den Boer.

Monserez, a rivals 5 star, a native of Costa Rica, is a little undersized for the Small Forward position he played in high school, but should translate beautifully to the 2-guard. Comparable to Ron Artest with a better shot, he should fit right in with Eddie Sutton's team.

Den Boer, a rivals 5 star, is one of the quickest players in this class, and he comes from a long line of Den Boer point guards, both his grandfather and father played D1 basketball. He has a great chance of starting all 4 years for the Cowboys.

                      Oklahoma

Oklahoma despite struggling last year, is still bringing in top notch recruits. They already have 3, Amien Hoyer, Arturo Abbott, and Lowell Hoffman.

Hoffman, a rivals 4 star is a solid all around player with great strength. He is already very advanced and the 6'5 forward should fit right in with the college game.

Arturo Abbott, a rivals 4 star, a guard in a forward's body is a 6'7 dynamo, though he shoots and handles like a guard, he's not afraid to jump in and scrap for rebounds.

Amien Hoyer, a rivals 5 star, the highest rated recruit in years for OU, is comparable to J.J. Redick, an outstanding shooter, with solid size, has a chance at starting from day 1 for Kelvin Sampson.

Tulsa and Oral Roberts have yet to receive a commitment.
