            Seattle Off to Great Start
            The Seattle Times

The Mariners did it again. They swept the Texas Rangers at Safeco Field and improved their record to 6-0 to start the 2005 campaign. The new-look M's are rolling and the chemistry looks like it is already working. Seattle had a tough game one, but exploded in game two winning 14-0, including back-to-back homers by Beltre and Boone in the second inning, and back-to-back homers by Sexson and Beltre in the fourth.

Ryan Franklin pitched a complete game shutout in the Texas series.

            Game One - Seattle 4, Texas 3

Richard Hidalgo (TEX) - 4-4, HR, RBI, 2 SB

Bobby Madritsch pitched a stellar game, but came up short and got a no decision as the Mariners could not get the offense rolling until the late innings of the game. Ichiro hit his fourth home run of the season in the game, and got his tenth hit in his first four games.

            Game Two - Seattle 14, Texas 0

Ichiro Suzuki (SEA) - 4-5, RBI, 2 Runs, 2 SB

Seattle erupted, and the fans couldnt get enough. The M's hit seven home runs and put up 14 runs on the Rangers in the win. Boone hit three bombs, Beltre hit two and Sexson hit his second homer of the year. Upcoming star Jeremy Reed also was in on the blowout, hitting his first major league home run. Ryan Franklin gave the bullpen a rest and proved why he should be apart of the Seattle starting five. In just under 85 pitches, Franklin shutout Texas and recorded 9 strikeouts.

            Game Three - Seattle 6, Texas 3

Randy Winn (SEA) - 3-4, HR, RBI, Run
Hank Blalock (TEX) - 2-4, HR, 2B, RBI, Run

In a back and forth battle, Seattle got the final laugh. Led by Sexson's clutch home runs, the M's were able to pull off the win and the sweep. Joel Pineiro got his second win of the season, pitching over six innings, and getting seven K's. Eddie Guardado got his second save in as many opportuities securing the win. The Mariners defense was great as well in the game and throughout the series, Seattle has committed only one error in the first six games.
