Wolverines trounce Hornets, get well-earned break

#25 Michigan was ripe for an upset, heading into their fifth game in as many days after their Preseason NIT Championship. They opened their home schedule against Sacramento State of the Big Sky Conference.

But the Wolverines were determined not to disappoint their home crowd, as they have emphasized the need to establish home court dominance. And this was a very successful first step, as UM shot 60%, won the assist battle 25-16, cleaned up on the glass 35-25, and ultimately won the game handily, 92-51.

    Player of the Game

Daniel Horton: 27 points, 7 assists

Dion Harris: 27 points, 5 assists, 2 steals
Courtney Sims: 14 points, 5 rebounds, 5 blocks, 3 assists
Lester Abram: 11 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists
Chris Hunter: 9 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists

Jameel Pugh: 12 points, 8 rebounds
Jason Harris: 11 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds
DaShawn Freeman: 5 points, 6 assists
Alex Bausley: 4 points, 6 rebounds

Jeez, you are on a roll!

      Keep it up against GaTech.
      Blind to this impending fate
We let the world carry our weight
It's back breaks with every mile
But we all live in denial

Wolverines out last Wreck in double overtime classic

          Just call Michigan the anti-ACC.

With the Big Ten being utterly broken down in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge, Michigan fought and clawed and managed to register another Overtime win over an elite ACC team, this time an 88-83 double overtime thriller in Georgia Tech's house.

The victory came two weeks after UM stunned Wake Forest in OT 80-79 in the Championship Game of the Preseason NIT. In that game Justin Gray destroyed the Wolverines for 41 points. This time it was Tech's B.J. Elder who rained hell on UM, to the tune of 43. But the next highest scorer for GT was Jarrett Jack and Isma'il Muhammad with ten points each. Michigan's backcourt duo of Dion Harris and Daniel Horton ruled the day, and Michigan is suddenly emerging as a national power, something they haven't been in over a decade.

          Player of the Game

Daniel Horton: 25 points, 9 assists

Dion Harris: 28 points, 6 steals
Courtney Sims: 8 points, 15 rebounds, 4 blocks, 3 assists
Lester Abram: 6 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals
Brent Petway: 5 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists

          B.J. Elder: 43 points
Jarrett Jack: 10 points, 9 assists
          Isma'il Muhammad: 10 points
Luke Schenscher: 8 points, 9 rebounds
Rasean Dickey: 6 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists
Anthony McHenry: 11 assists, 5 rebounds

Wolverines take the fight out of the Irish

Sure, things aren't as heated on the court between Michigan and Notre Dame as they are on the gridiron. But these two teams are still rivals.

The Wolverines killer backcourt duo of Horton and Harris exploded out of the gates as Michigan jumped to a 16-5 lead. The Irish got it down to 18-17, before UM went on a 8-1 run to go up 26-18. Notre Dame tried valiantly to fight back, but the quickly emerging All-American contending duo of Horton and Harris ensured that Michigan would not disappoint, as they won 90-76. The Wolverines are guaranteed to jump high in the polls, as they beat the #2 and #7 teams this week.

Neon Dion stuns UCLA; Wildcard Wolverines 11-0

San Diego, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, High Point, UCLA.

Michigan is 11-0, and five of those wins have come against those teams by a combined 9 points, as the Wolverines managed their fourth one point victory of the season, this time on a Dion Harris buzzer beater at Pauley Pavilion against the UCLA Bruins, 84-83.

The lead changed over a dozen times in the second half, and UCLA's duo of Dijon Thompson and Jordan Farmer did their best to cancel out Michigan's duo of Daniel Horton and Harris. Michael Fey made two FTs with 6.5 seconds left to put the Bruins up 83-82, and Michigan advanced it to midcourt before calling timeout with 3.3 left. Lester Abram gave the in bounds to Horton, who made a quick cut to the hoop before slicing the ball out to Harris, who hit a shot from the left wing just inside the arc as the horn sounded. It hit nothing but net, and the crowd of UCLA gasped in shock as the Wolverines mobbed Harris in celebration.

The Wolverines' style of play may not be healthy for the heart, but as long as they keep winning, UM fans won't complain.
