      #14 Boise State   21   35-56
      #3   Michigan       46   45-91

Wolverines ruthless, cruise past Broncos into second round

In their first NCAA Tournament game since 1998, Michigan did not disappoint, and assured a win.

They stormed 14th-seeded Boise State from the start, and easily won, 91-56, registering their first official NCAA win since 1995. They had results from the 1996 and 1998 tournies wiped out due to the Ed Martin scandal.

Now, thanks to Dion Harris, Daniel Horton and Lester Abram, the Wolverines are slowly but surely erasing the stigma left on their program by names like Webber, Taylor, Traylor and Bullock. But it will take more than just one win to do so.

      Player of the Game

Daniel Horton: 21 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals

      Dion Harris: 29 points
Chris Hunter: 19 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 blocks
Brent Petway: 14 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals
Lester Abram: 6 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals

Eric Lane: 14 points, 2 steals
Tezarray Banks: 10 points, 6 rebounds
Jason Ellis: 6 points, 6 rebounds
Jermaine Blackburn: 4 points, 4 rebounds, 7 assists

Wolverines feeling Sweet after squeaking by Charlotte

They never make things easy, do they?

The Wolverines provided yet another nailbiter in a season full of them, as they edged the Charlotte 49ers of Conference USA 76-71 to get to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament.

Things started off very shaky, as the Niners surged to an early 14-4 lead, prompting a Michigan timeout. Things got worse when Daniel Horton picked up his second foul minutes later. But Lester Abram and Dion Harris stabilized things for UM, and the Wolverines managed a 39-36 lead at halftime.

For the first half of the second half, the two teams practically traded baskets before Charlotte caught fire once again, and held their foot on Michigan's throat with a 58-50 lead with roughly five minutes to go. Horton took over with a series of layups and dunks, concluded by a monstrous two handed jam that appeared to be an offensive foul. This sent Charlotte coach Bobby Lutz into a frenzy on the sidelines. The Wolverines were clutch with their FTs down the stretch, and staved off any attempt at a comeback.

Nice win over Charlotte and good luck with Memphis!

I bet you were happy to see ND go down.

Nice win over Charlotte and good luck with Memphis!

I bet you were happy to see ND go down.

                          #3 Michigan   37   43-80
                          #2 Memphis   20   35-55

Horton leads Michigan into Elite Eight with blowout of #2 Memphis

It was supposed to be a tight, heart stopping game. A showdown between Memphis' Big Three of Carney, Washington and Banks against Michigan's Big Three of Horton, Harris and Abram.

Instead Michigan's junior point guard turned it into a one man show, and the close game never materialized.

Daniel Horton sliced and diced his way through Memphis' D all day, as #3 Michigan crushed the 2nd-seeded Tigers 80-55 to cruise into the Elite Eight. The Wolverines opened the game up 14-2, and led 37-20 at halftime. Memphis went on an 11-2 run to close the lead to 11, but they never got it within single digits.

In the Elite Eight, Michigan will face their third straight Conference USA opponent, as the other Regional Semifinal pitted Cincinnati against Louisville.
