    Where Legends Are Made- CFB26

IT'S TIME TO BECOME LEGENDARY AGAIN.

It's time to make a return to the boards.. I have been messing around with CFB26 for the past week and well there is some great changes from last year's game there is still some challenges that will need to be overcome, but overall I am enjoying the game.. Like last year, my plan is to start with Coach Matt Miller as the Co-Offensive Coordinator.. Matt was one of my favorite players as a Bronco and before Jeanty, he made the #2 special. I don't know how long I will stay at Boise State it could be 1 season or it could be several but my plan is to always have Coach D and the Broncos apart of my thread report no matter what team Miller is on.

The plan is to start playing 11 minute Quarters on All-American with Matty O sliders. I might adjust to Heisman or I might adjust to other sliders at some point. Also because of the transfer portal and some crazy things I have seen so far I am not really going to give myself any super strict recruiting guidelines to start. Typically my rules have always been.. Recruit players who start with your school in the Top-10, Recruit players from your Pipelines and Recruit players who are only 1 prestige above your school ranking unless again said player has me in their Top-10 to start the year. That could change, but so far in my practice saves. I have seen some crazy stuff happen in the portal.. I have yet to decide the Transfer Portal slider setting. .Right now I have it set with a Max of 20 players who can leave each year..

      TEAM PREVIEW

      2024 RECAP

For Boise State it was a Hollywood type scripted season. The Broncos in Coach Spencer Danielson’s 1st year at the helm went 12-1 in the regular season making it to the College Football Playoffs, before losing to Penn State in the Fiesta Bowl. Despite the loss, Boise State finished the season ranked in the Top-10 in both the Media Poll and Coaches Poll.

All-American RB Ashton Jeanty made NCAA history finishing 2nd to Barry Sanders in All-time NCAA history, well leading the Broncos with 2601 yds and 29 TD’s.. Now drafted #6 Overall to the Las Vegas Raiders, The question is, was Jeanty the only reason why Boise State was so successful?

      2025 PREVIEW

The 2025 season will be Boise State’s final season in the Mountain West Conference, as they prepare to join a rebuilding Pac-12 Conference with fellow members from the MWC, as well as Oregon State, Washington State and Texas State starting in the 2026 season. Despite Jeanty leaving, Boise State is projected to win the conference for the final time. However Boise State has been projected to win prior years as well (18 straight) and it hasn’t always happened.

Ashton Jeanty isn’t the only Bronco leaving big shoes to fill this season as OC Dirk Koetter has officially retired as Boise State will hand the offensive reins over to former Bronco O-Lineman Nate Potter and former WR Matt Miller.. Potter will handle the bulk of the play calling duties, focusing on the O-Line and Tight ends, and Miller will continue to coach the WR’s and QB’s.

With Ashton Jeanty gone the Broncos will turn to a former rival in Fresno State RB Malik Sherrod. Sherrod’s 2024 season was cut short due to an injury but in 2023 Sherrod led the Bulldogs with 966 yards on the ground finishing with 9 TD’s. He also showed the ability to catch the ball with 44 receptions for 260 yds. Sherrod won’t have to carry the load all by himself though the Broncos RB room also will return the talented Sire Gaines as well as Jambres Dubar and Dylan Riley as well as incoming Freshman Greg Ard. More about that in the Team Roster Preview.

Replacing Jeanty at RB and Koetter at OC isn’t the only big departure on offense.. Boise State also will be without 3 of the team’s 4 top WR’s from last season.. After losing their #1 WR from 2 years ago in Eric McAllister to TCU, the Broncos lost Cam Camper to the NFL (Jacksonville), Prince Strachan (transfer to USC) and Austin Bolt (left team). Coach Miller will rely on Latrell Capels (38 rec 435 yds 5) as his #1 with former 5* All-American Chris Marshall (Ole Miss/TAMU transfer) hoping to finally get on the field as the teams #2. Look for Miller and Potter however to utilize the TE spot as Matt Lauter looks to improve on a great junior season that produced 47 rec 619 yds and a team high 7 TD’s earning him MWC All-American honors.

      The Schedule

The Broncos 2025 schedule will have 8 games against MWC foes including the Broncos last matchup’s with UNLV, Nevada, New Mexico and Air Force..

One major change to Boise State’s schedule this season will the addition of Oregon State in Week 2 which will replace the Broncos original matchup scheduled with FBS Eastern Washington. If Boise State is going to make another run at the CFB Playoffs they will need to 1st win in Week 1 @ USF and try and keep things close in Week 6 when they travel to South Bend to take on the Top-25 ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

      Team Preview

      (Overall Rating) (R=Redshirting) (RS=Already Redshirted)

      QB

      RS JR Maddux Madsen (86)
      RS SO Max Cutforth (71)
      RS FR Kaleb Annett (64)

"Maddux Madsen is the new team leader. If Boise State is going to make a run at the playoffs it will be because Madsen had a great season. Former 5* Recruit and USC transfer Malachi Nelson couldn't beat out Madsen last year and left at the end of the season to join UTEP leaving Max Cutforth and Kaleb Annett to battle it this spring for the #2.. Finding a future 4 year starter is key for the recruiting this season.

      RB

      RS SR Malik Sherrod (88)
      RS FR Sire Gaines (83)
      JR Jambes Dubar (79)
      SO Dylan Riley (72)
      (R) FR Greg Ard (75)

"The former Fresno Bulldog looked great in the Spring game breaking off serval long touchdown runs, but the talk of the camp has been the play of RS FR Sire Gaines.. Gaines has the talent to step in and fill Jeanty's shoes, but look for this rushing attack to feature the Top-3 backs.. True Freshman Greg Ard is a former 3* from Texas who could very well play a huge role in the Broncos future if he sticks around.. .Right now recruiting a RB won't be high on the priority list but instead we might try and land one in the portal to compliment Gaines and Ard moving forward.

      WR

      RS SR Latrell Caples (84)
RS JR Chris Marshall (77) **I am using the roster spot for Marquez Anderson in the game for Marshall because he didn't make the roster in the update"
      RS JR Chase Penry (76)
      FR Ja'Bree Bickham (74)
      RS SR Ben Ford (70)
      RS SO Cameron Bates (69)

"The WR room is super thin. Austin Bolt (78) is still on the game roster but left the team this spring.. Capels is the #1, Marshall(Anderson) is a former 5* from Ole Miss/Texas A&M who didn't see the field much last year but could play a huge role this season.. Bickham was recruited as a DB but moves to WR with the lack of depth.. He is currently wearing #32.. He could also see some snaps out of the backfield. Penry will be the slot WR and hopefully play a big role in the Offense. Bates and Ford will both spend time on Special teams handling KR/PR but also could be valuable in 5 WR sets. Landing 3-4 WR's in this year's class will be huge probably need to find 2 guy's who can play right away maybe even 3.. Transfer Portal will be huge too.

      TE

      RS SR Matt Lauter (90)
      RS SO Matt Wagner (75)
      RS JR Austin Terry (75)
      RS FR Kaden Anderson (70)
      (R) FR Chris Boswell (65)

"Lauter is target #1 for Madsen after leading the team with 7 TD's last year.. He is NFL bound after this season.. Wagner and Terry will battle it out for the #2 role.. Wagner 6'5 and Terry 6'3 are both big targets that could see some redzone looks. Kaden Anderson will move to FB, well Boswell will redshirt. Not a huge priority in recruiting if Terry and Wagner step up but would like to find a future starter soon.

      O-Line

LT RS JR Kage Casey (90)
LG RS SR Tyler Keinath (77)
C RS SR Mason Randolph (80)
RG RS JR Roger Carreon (76)
RT RS JR Hall Schmidt (79)

LT/RT RS JR Daylon Metoyer (75)
LG/RG RS JR Jake Steele (74)
LG/RG RS SO Miles Walker (72)
C RS SO Jason Steele (71)
      LT/RT (R) FR Jacob Tracy (70)

"Casey is a future NFL starter. He could've left for more NIL money and be playing for a SEC school or Oregon but was loyal and stayed.. Only a Junior he could have 2 more years but doubtful. Landing 3-5 O-lineman with 2 that could start right away will be a huge task in recruiting this season.

      D-Line

LEDGE RS JR Jayden Virgin-Morgan (91)
REDGE RS SR Malakai Williams (78)
L/REDGE RS JR Sterling Lane II (77)
      L/REDGE JR Max Stege (76)
      DT SR Braxton Fely (87)
DT RS SR Dion Washington (81)
      DT JR David Latu (78)

Virgin-Morgan had plenty of NIL offers from other schools after a team high 10 sacks last season and 15.5 TFL's but he like Casey was loyal and returned to help lead this unit... Like Casey, Virgin-Morgan is likely NFL bound after his season or could be a guy I see hit the portal for his final season to play for a bigger school (Current deal breaker he wants a school with a A- Brand Exposure and BSU is a C-). Fely almost left in the portal but returns to start at DT.. Williams, Lane II and Latu are all portal adds.. The Portal will continue to be a spot we look for starting type talent, but BSU does has Freshman Matt Westy (70) and Bol Bol (69) who will both redshirt who could develope into future starters.

      LB'S

      Sam- SR Jaylen Alston (75)
      Mike- SR Marco Notarainni (86)
Will- RS JR Pierre Washington (74)
      Will- JR Chase Martin (72)
      Will- SO Clay Martineau (69
Mike- RS JR Jake Ripp (73)

"The departure of starter Andrew Simpson hurts.. Notarainni is the star of this unit but there is not alot of young depth, so all 3 positions will need to be focused on during recrutiing

      DB'S

CB RS JR A' Marion McCoy (87)
      CB SR Jeremiah Earby (84)
      FS JR Ty Benefeild (86)
SS RS JR Cordell Rich (77) **This will be transfer Derek Ganter JR.. He is projected to be a starter this season after coming over from E. Washington**

      CB JR Jaden Mickey (76)
CB RS JR Demetrius Freeney (74)
CB RS SR Davon Banks (71)
CB (R) FR Dominik Calhoun (72)

FS RS SO Boen Phelps (70)
FS RS FR LJ Grant (69)
SS RS SR Zion Washington (73)
SS RS FR Travis Anderson (69)

A great starting 4, but not much depth at either Safety position.. Transfer Portal and finding some guy's I can train to become stars will be huge.

      PK/PUNTER

      PK JR Colton Boomer (74)
      P SO Pat Taggart (64)

"Boomer transfers in from UCF and wins the starting job.. Taggart takes over punting duties after James Feguson-Reynolds takes a bigger NIL deal from the Oregon Ducks.

          WEEK 1 @ (0-0) USF

          GAME RECAP

Boise State opened their season with a trip to Tampa for a matchup with the USF Bulls.. Evenly matched (Both 79 Overall), Raymond Jones was packed for this rainy Saturday night showdown.

USF got things going with a 42 yd FG by Nico Gramatica the son of legendary Tampa Bay Buc's kicker Martin Gramatica to take a early (3-0) lead, but Boise State battled back first tying the game with a 31 FG of their own before taking the lead (10-3) as Maddux Madsen throws a 14 yd pass to Latrell Caples for the Broncos first TD of the 2025 season.

BSU extended their lead to (13-3) with a another 46 yd FG by Colton Boomer early in the 2nd Quarter before USF found the endzone on a 51 yd TD pass from QB Byrum Brown to Chas Nimrod to make it (13-10) with 3:10 to play in the half.

Boise State answers the touchdown with a touchdown of their own as Madsen hits Chris Marshall on a 16 yd score to make it (20-10) but Gramatica comes through with a 51 yd FG as time expires to make it (21-13)

For Maddux Madsen it was not the 1st half he was hoping for as the Junior QB throws (3) 1st half INT's.

USF opened the 2nd half with the ball and QB Byrum Brown delivers as he goes 28 yds to the house to tie the game (20-20).. Boise State answers back though as Sire Gaines scores his first TD of the season with a 3 yd run to make it (27-20).

Maddux Madsen's 4th INT of the game was a drive killer as De'Shaun Rucker takes it 72 yds to the house for the "Pick 6" INT to tie the game (27-27) with 22 seconds to play in the 3rd Quarter.

Still tied (27-27), BSU would send out Colton Boomer for a 54 yd FG attempt but the Junior comes up short as the game stays tied, but with 1:07 to play in the game Boomer delivers the lead this time connecting on a 24 yd kick to make it (30-27)..

USF had a chance to tie or win the game but a quick 4 and out gave the ball back to Boise State inside the 30 and the Bulls were out of timeouts..

BSU could've just ran out the clock but with less then 10 seconds to play Gaines dives in from 3 yds out to add another score..

For sure.. Was struggling to get the run game going and was forced to pass alot.. Don't really want to be throwing the ball 60+ times a game because that's 60+ times for a chance to throw a INT. I started out well going 12/16 but was trying to hard in the final 4 minutes of the 1st half to make a big play.. So most of it's on me...

              Thanks for checking in.

              WEEK 2 RECAP

Boise State fan's got a chance to witness a rivalry in the making as Boise State took on Oregon State in a replacement game (real schedule is FCS Eastern Washington). The Broncos and Beavers are expected to become regional rivals as Boise State moves to the Pac-12 next season.

After escaping with a Week 1 win on the road @ USF, the Broncos looked much better on offense this week as Fresno State transfer Malik Sherrod is named MWC player of the Week rushing for over 100 yds and scoring 3 TD's on the day.

Sherrod got things going early with 3 TD's in the 1st Quarter including a 40 yd run to the house and a 14 yd reception from Madsen to give Boise State a early 21-0 lead.

Madsen who had 4 INT's in the win over the Bulls in Week 1, was almost Mr Automatic this week as he completes 25/32 (78%) throwing for 262 yds and 2 scores.

Madsen found TE Matt Lauter late in the 2nd Quarter on a 13 yd score to give Boise State a pretty commanding 28-7 lead going into the half.

With a 3 score lead BSU continued to dominated the ground game as Sherrod get's his first 100 yd game as a Bronco finishing the game with a team high 21 carries for 131 yds and the 3 scores on the day. Redshirt Freshman Sire Gaines who had 2 rushing TD's in Week 1 added 2 more scores with short runs in both the 3rd and 4th Quarter finishing the day with just 5 carries for 17 yds.

Oregon State managed a early score in the 4th Quarter and added a late FG to make the game look closer then it really was.

FINAL SCORE BOISE STATE-42 OREGON STATE-17

              KEY PLAYERS

QB Maddux Madsen 25/32 267 yds 2 TD

For Boise State and Air Force this would be the last meeting of these 2 schools as Boise State is scheduled to join the Pac-12 net season well Air Force will remain in the Mountain West.

Similar to Week 2 vs Oregon State, the Broncos dominated the 1st half as they jumped out to a early 14-0 lead in the 1st Quarter behind a pair of touchdowns from Maddux "Mad Dog" Madsen and increased their lead to (21-0) as Sire Gaines scores yet another short yardage TD giving him a team high 5 TD's on the season.

Neither team would do much in the 2nd half.. BSU despite not turning the ball over would manage just 3 points early in the 4th as Colton Boomer connects on a 36 yd FG after missing a 41 yd kick in the 3rd Quarter..

Air Force using their triple option rushing attack moved the ball well as SR RB Kade Frew (82 ovr) and SR FB Dylan Carson (87 ovr) combined for 27 carries and 104 yds but the duo failed to find the endzone. Finally with 1:02 to play it was JR QB Josh Johnson (71 ovr) who got the Falcons on the scoreboard with a 15 yd score to Amari Wilkerson..

Johnson would finish the game just 6/14 (42%) for 67 yds and the 1 TD.

After back to back weeks of strong starts in the 1st Half, Boise State struggled as the Broncos failed to convert on a scoring drive in the 1st Quarter as App State takes a early (3-0) lead.

The Mountaineers extended their lead to (10-0) early in the 2nd Quarter, but Maddux "Mad Dog" Madsen finally got fire as he finds Matt Lauter on back to back 1st downs throws before connecting a 3rd time as Lauter scores what would be the first of 5 touchdowns for Madsen on the day.. Trailing (10-7) Boise State got the ball back with under 2 minutes to play in the half and Madsen went back to work as the Junior QB leads the 2 minute Offense on another scoring drive as Boise State takes a (14-10) lead into the half.

For Mad Dog the 2nd half was a coming out party as the Junior lights up the scoreboard and the stat sheets with 3 more touchdowns and the Bronco rushing attack adds another as Sire Gaines scores on a 34 yd long run to make it (59-10) with still over 5 minutes to play in the game.

With Malik Sherrod (22 carries 92 yds) and Sire Gaines (17 carries 108 yds 1 TD) doing most of the damage through the first 3 Quarters, the 4th Quarter belonged to JR RB Jambres Dubar who showed he too could be a starting RB for many teams in the nation as he carries the ball 13 times for 41 yds and scores 2 more touchdowns as Boise State rolls 5-0 on the season.

                          GAME RECAP

Boise State fan's have had Week 6 circled since the game was announced.. Coaches and players knew that facing a potential Top-10 ranked Irish team in South Bend would be one of Boise State's biggest challenges ranking up their with their matchup from last year with Penn State in the playoffs and past games like Oklahoma and Georgia.

Notre Dame opened up with the ball and quickly marched down field with a 80 yd drive capped off by a 5 yd run by Jeremiyah Love to make it (7-0). Boise State would attempt to answer back but Maddux Madsen is picked off as the JR QB throws his 5th INT of the season and the Irish quickly add another 3 points to the scoreboard with a 52 yd FG to make it (10-0).

A Malik Sherrod fumble would end Boise State's 2nd drive and again the Irish would answer with another score as Love scores for a 2nd time after the Broncos held the Irish to a 3rd and goal..

Trailing (17-0), Boise State would settle for a 39 yd FG to open up the 2nd Quarter scoring to make it (17-3) but Notre Dame answers back with a FG of their own (22 yds) to extend the lead to (20-3).. Boise State finally finds the endzone with 2:04 to play as Sire Gaines scores from 3 yds out to extend his TD streak to make it (20-10).

Despite taking over with 2:04 to play, Notre Dame wasted little time finding the endzone again as CJ Carr goes 4/4 including a 12 yd strike to Will Pauling to extend the lead to (27-10) with 40 seconds to play.

Madsen unrattled would lead Boise State inside the redzone setting up a 4th and goal with 2 seconds to play in the half.. Rather then kick a FG, Coach Danielson elected to go for it but Madsen's pass is swatted down as BSU goes into the half trailing (27-10).

                          Coach D
"I just felt that a touchdown was what we need to go into the half to help encourage and give us the belief we could still win this game.. It backfired but we still got a 2nd half to play"
Boise State opened up the 2nd half with the ball but had to settle for a 28 yd FG by Colton Boomer to make it (27-13). The Bronco D played well in the 2nd half keeping the Irish off the scoreboard until early in the 4th as CJ Carr finds Malachi Fields on a 11 yd score to make it (34-13).

The Broncos had a chance to cut it to a 2 score game with 5 minutes to play in the game but Maden's pass is again deflected inside the 5 yd line as the Irish take over. Boise State had 1 more opportunity to score at the end of the game but with Madsen on the sidelines after multiple sacks, backup QB Max Cutworth's pass deflects off the hands of True Freshman Ja'Bree Bickham as the Irish take over on a turnover on downs for the 3rd time in the game

                          Coach Miller after the game
"Obviously it hurts to turn the ball over 6 times (2 INT, 1 Fumble, 3 on Downs) even if we only score on 3 of those series it's a much different game. I felt like Mad Dog played his heart out there.. Anytime you have to throw 62 times and take the kind of hits he was taking it hurts.. We knew at the end of the game we needed to take him off the field.. I think we needed to do a better job of getting Sire into the game as well as Breezy (Jambres Dubar). Malik Sherrod has been great but if we are going to keep the offense balanced we need more then 1 RB getting double digit carries."
