    2026 RECRUITING RECAP

Year 1 of Recruiting with Coach Matt Miller and DC Eric Chindader turns out pretty successful as the duo signs 25 players in the off-season landing the #4 Class in the Pac-12 and a Class that ranks #30 Overall in the nation. In total Boise State adds 28 players (5-4* and 23-3*) with potential stars on both sides of the ball.

At QB Miller landed 3* Brian Ridge a SO Transfer from San Jose State who has starting experience (Pass for 4115 yds with 23 TD and 6 INT last year) and could push Tavian St Clair for the starting job. Ridge was ranked the #124 Best Recruit in the Portal.

At RB Miller added 4* Roderick Robinson a JR Transfer from Georgia…Listed at 6’1 236lbs from San Diego CA, Robinson struggled with injuries the past 2 years logging just 4 carries for the Bulldogs after posting a 8.2 avg on 24 carries in 2023 well scoring 2 TD’s. Boise State has had success the past 2 seasons with Fresno State transfer Malik Sherrod and Iowa State transfer Abu Sama III so hopefully Robinson can stay healthy and help take some of the load from Gaines after a 300 carry season last year.

At WR Miller missed out on former Texas Tech 4* WR Michah Hudson who is signing with Texas but the Broncos did land 4* High School recruit Evan Qualls (#127 Overall) and 3* Roy Carney.

At TE Miller will replace Austin Terry with former Hawaii transfer Larry Booth a 3* listed at 6’6 247lbs.

Miller struck gold in the portal for the O-line landing 3 possible starters. 6’6 303 RT Jaimie Ahlers is a transfer FR from BUY and will compete for the RT job this season and could move to LT next year. Miller also landed 3* TJ Shanahan (JR/Penn State) and 3* Chauncey Goodwin (FR/Colorado) who could compete for starting jobs at Guard. Both players were ranked in the Top-150 in the portal.

On Defense Chindader added 4 potential starters to the D-Line as he looks to replace 19.5 sacks last season between his 3 starters.

3* JR 'Landry (UL Monroe), 3* SO Ephraim Asiata (BYU) and 3* SO Malaki Ta’ase (Nevada) will complete on the Edge well 3* JR Markis Deal (N Texas) will plug in the middle.. Deal was the #173 rated recruit in the Portal.

At LB, BSU added former Washington State Will LB JR Ace Kaufusi as well as added 4* High School recruit Lorenzo Tiffin (#287 Overall) and 3* Mike LB Charles HumphrIes(#742 Overall)

At CB, Boise State lost starter Zabien Brown who ended up signing with UCLA but the Broncos did add 3* Kyle Marks (FR/Cincinnati) and 4* High School Recruit Keke Eze (#107 Overall) as well as 3* High School recruit Kyrie Darnold (#1047).

At Safety, BSU landed a trio of 3* High schoolers in Tremaine Crick (#014), Evan Cookus (#1739) and Deontae Clayborn (#663).

Clayborn was the Idaho Gatorade Player of the Year (Highest rated player in the state). Listed at 6’3 236, Clayborn was a Athlete who best graded out at Safety.

Former Alabama QB Austin Mack currently went unsigned. A 2 sport Athlete who also plays Basketball had Notre Dame listed as he #1 school with TAMU #2 and Clemson #3.

    Other Top Players Moving on
5* DJ Lagway (Florida) lost his job to Archie Mannin*g and is signing with Alabama. Lagway was the only 5* in the Portal and was ranked #1

        BRONCOS DOMINATE NON-CONFERNECE PLAY

Boise State cruised through it's non-conference schedule picking up 3 straight wins over San Jose State, USF and a road win @ UTSA as the climb to #`12 in the Top-25 rankings showing they are move then capable of playing at a high level under 1st year HC Matt Miller..

The Broncos Offense under QB Tavian St. Clair and Sire Gaines is hitting on all cylinders as the team is currently #2 in the nation with a average of 55.7 PPG, with over 1811 yds of Total Offense

WEEK 1 VS SAN JOSE STATE ( WON 40-22)

The Spartans kept things close in the 1st half and actually led (19-17) after recording a safety as the San Jose State Defense comes up big with a stop on Gaines inside the endzone. BSU would score on the opening drive of the 2nd half to take a (23-19) lead after a failed 2pt conversion. Still leading by 4 going into the 4th, the Broncos would make a change at QB inserting former Spartan QB Brian Ridge against his former team and Ridge was the spark the offense needed as BSU scores 17 unanswered in the 4th Quarter including 33 yd TD from Ridge to Ezekiel Fogg for the final score of the game.

Ridge finished the game 6/12 for 65 yds and the 1 TD. Starter Tavien St Clair was 18/36 for 291 yds and 1 TD in his first career start for the Broncos, well RB Sire Gaines started off with a bang rushing 22 times for 100 yds scoring his first TD of 2027. JR WR Cameron Bates looked good in the #1 WR role as he led the team with 7 rec for 113 yds

WEEK 2 VS USF (WON 72-20)

The Broncos dominated on both sides of the ball jumping out to a early (21-3) lead in the 1st half and kept the gas pedal down as they go into the half up (41-13). QB Tavien St Clair stayed in the game in the 3rd Quarter and would add 2 more touchdowns as he finishes the game with 4 passing and 1 rushing TD's to go with a career high 520 yds., finishing just 3 yds shy of breaking Ryan Dinwiddie's 532 yd school record set in 2003.

With a (55-13) lead going into the 4th, you would think BSU would just put it on cruise control but backup QB Tanner Applewhite would lead 3 more scoring drives including his first passing TD as a Bronco as he hits RS FR Keilan Bettis on a 32 yd bomb.. For Bettis it was his 3rd score of the day giving him a "Hat Trick" as he finished with a team high 15 rec for 204 yds.

SO WR Ezekiel Fogg (13 rec 140 yds) and C. Bates (9 rec 117 yds 1 TD) both broke the 100 yd mark well TE's L. Booth (3 rec 73 yds) and Matt Wagner (4 rec 55 yds 1 TD) both had huge days as well.

Despite 634 yds and 5 TD's through the air, the Broncos still managed 4 scores on the ground and a 191 yds rushing as Sire Gaines goes for 121 yds on 29 carries well scoring another TD and Georgia Transfer Roderick Robinson II finished with 20 carries for 57 yds and a TD.

It was also a big day for the Defense as the Broncos finished with 7 Sacks led by RS JR Lopez Sanusi who had 3 and they picked off both Bull's QB's 1 time.

        WEEK 3 @ UTSA (WON 55-10)

Despite going on the road for their Week 3 matchup with the Roadrunners, Boise State didn't slow down as the Broncos offense continues to fire away taking a early (21-0) lead in the 1st Quarter and a (28-3) lead in to the half.

BSU would extend their lead to (45-3) in the 3rd Quarter as Tavien St Clair continues to showcase Heisman type abilities.. The Redshirt Sophomore finished the game 25/44 (56%) for 264 yds with 4 TD and has now thrown 9 TD's in his first 3 games without a INT.

Both RB's went for over 100 yds as Sire Gaines makes it 3 straight finishing with 21 carries for 104 yds and 2 more TD's. Gaines also got a receiving TD giving him 5 TD's on the year.

For Roderick Robinson II it was his best outing in his career as the RS Senior picks up 105 yds on just 12 carries (8.8 avg) well scoring a touchdown.

Boise native Keilan Bettis appears to have taken over as the #1 WR and St. Clair's favorite target.. After posting 15 rec for 204 yds last week, Bettis led the team once again this time with 10 rec for 113 yds and 1 TD.

On Defense Lopez Sanusi continues to shine as a pass rusher recording 2 more sacks to give him 5 on the year in just 3 games well SO CB Dominik Calhoun showed off shutdown abilities picking off RS FR Finau Quick 3 times.. Quick would finish the game with 4 INT's total well completing just 18/39 (48%) for 184 yds.

        INJURY NEWS

Starting LT Andrew Sprague was injured against USF in Week 2 with a Dislocated Ankle and will miss the next 5 weeks.

          BRONCOS ESCAPE WITH PAC-12 VICTORY

          GAME RECAP

Boise State opened up Pac-12 play in Week 4 hosting (2-1) UCLA. The Bruins took a early (7-0) lead and held BSU to a 49 yd FG in the 1st Quarter. UCLA extended their lead to (17-3) before Boise State catches fire with 3 straight scores to close out the 1st half to take a (24-17) lead into half time.

Tavien St Clair continued to showcase his ability to make big plays with his arm as he throws (3) 1st half touchdowns spreading the ball around as Fogg, Bettis and Bates all snag scores.

UCLA would settle for a 39 yd FG in the 3rd Quarter to narrow the lead to (24-20) going into the 4th and cut it to (24-23) early in the 4th on another FG before the Broncos tack on another touchdown as St Clair finds Fogg for his 2nd score of the day.

Trailing (31-23) UCLA would have a chance to tie the game with 2:12 to play as RS SO Austin Carlisle (81 ovr) hits JR WR Kwazi Gilmer on a 29 yd score to make it (31-29), but Coach Jim Mora makes a interesting call and kicks the PAT vs going for the tie leading to a (31-30).

The Bruins would hold BSU to a punt on the final series getting the ball back with 27 seconds to play, but Carlisle is picked off by SR LB Clay Martineau as the Broncos seal the victory.

          FINAL SCORE BOISE STATE-31 UCLA-30

The Broncos struggled coming off their Week 5 "Bye" week as the #18 Ducks snap Boise State's 21 game home winning streak and beat the Broncos for the first time in school history on "The Blue".

RS SO QB Tavien St Clair came into the game with zero turnovers with a 12:0 ratio but struggled in the 1st half fumbling the ball to set up a Oregon touchdown and then threw 3 INT's which all turned into points finishing the half with 4 turnovers as Boise State goes into the locker room trailing (52-24).

ST Clair would try and rally the Broncos in the 2nd half as he throws his 3rd TD of the day to cut the lead to (52-31) but Ohio State transfer was forced from the came as San Jose State transfer Brian Ridge took over to close out the game Ridge looked solid on his first series leading the Broncos down the field on 9 plays before finding Keilan Bettis for the short 4 yd TD to make it (52-38) but that's as close as Boise State would get.

For Bettis it was another highlight type day.. With the Broncos trailing and the Ducks Defense shutting down Sire Gaines (19 carries 26 yds, 1.4 avg), BSU would throw the ball 70 times completing 41 of them with Bettis leading the team with 14 receptions for 146 yds and another hat trick as he finishes with 3 of the 4 touchdowns.

SO Ezekiel Fogg also hit double digits hauling in 11 rec for 101 yds and the other TD. TE's Matt Wagner (5 rec 74 yds) and Larry Booth combined (4 rec 39 yds) combined for 9 rec and 113 yds as well.

Well Gaines struggled to run the ball backup RB Roderick Robinson II did a solid job running for 68 yds on 12 carries (5.7 avg) well scoring a touchdown on a 17 yd run. RS SO Greg Ard even did well in the 4th with 4 carries for 19 yds (4.8 avg) in garbage minutes.

For Oregon the win was huge as the Ducks look to rebound from a upset loss @ Fresno State in Week 4. SO Jordan Davidson showed he might be one of the best RB in the country finishing with 213 yds on 26 carries (8.2 avg) well scoring 2 TD's including a 57 yd run. JR WR Dakorian Moore (94 ovr) finished with a team high 6 rec for 82 yds.

                ROAD WARRIORS
After a disappointing Week 6 loss at home to Oregon, the Boise State Broncos rebounded with a pair of road wins to improve to (6-1) on the season and (3-1) in Pac-12 play as they climb back up to 12 in the Top-25 rankings going into Week 9. Here is a look at the past 2 game recaps

Week 7 at Arizona (Won 45-24)

After a 4 turnover performance against the Ducks, QB Tavien St Clair rebounded by throwing for 247 yds and 5 TD's with his only blemish being a late 4th Quarter INT with the game already in hand.

Sire Gaines continues to showcase his cowbell work ethic as he carries the ball a career high 36 times rushing for 158 yds. Backup RB Roderick Robinson II looked good in the 4th Quarter as Gaines took a rest carrying the ball 7 times for 76 yds and a late score.

RS FR Dennis Moses caught his first career touchdown finishing the game with a team high 62 yds on 4 rec well SR TE Matt Wagner had 5 rec for 43 yds and 2 scores.

Week 8 at BYU (Won 57-23)

The Broncos dominated the Cougars from start to finish taking a (17-3) lead in the 1st and and (30-13) lead at the half, BSU continued to pour it on (44-16) at the end of the 3rd and lead (57-16) before BYU scored a last minute touchdown.

It was a huge night for St. Clair who competed 80% of his passes (28/35) for 363 yds with 4 TD and 1 INT.. St Clair also finished with 57 yds rushing.

Sire Gaines came up 1 yd shy of hitting 100 as he gets 99 yds on 16 carries, but he did add 3 touchdowns to his total giving him a team high 7 on the season.

St Clair did a great job spreading the ball around as 4 different receivers scored a touchdown. E. Fogg (7 rec 114 yds 1 TD), M. Wagner (5 rec 79 yds 1 TD), C. Bates (6 rec 79 yds 1 TD) and K. Bettis (5 rec 68 yds 1 TD).

**Former Boise State QB CJ Tiller is now the starting QB for the Cougars.. He finished with 365 yds on the day but threw 2 INT to go with his 1 TD. Tiller transfered to Utah State for the 2026 season throwing for 2339 yds with 15 TD and 9 INT for the Aggies.. So far in 2027 he has thrown for 1856 yds with 13 TD and 9 INT.

                PLAYER SPOTLIGHT

Tavien St Clair's success has been the fact he has 4 very capable targets in the passing game with all 4 having caught 5 or more touchdowns on the season, however RS Freshman Keilan Bettis has emerged as the teams #1 WR.. Bettis listed at 6'3 207lbs has shown his ability to make big plays as well as give St Clair a nice redzone target on goal line plays.. He leads the team in Receptions (55), Yards (695) and Touchdowns (9).

Redshirt Sophomore CB Dominik Calhoun has stepped up as the team's shutdown corner. After posting 3 INT's in the Broncos win over UTSA, Calhoun added his 5th INT of the season this past week against BYU.

Last year PK Colton Boomer won the Lou Groza Award as the nation's "Best PK" connecting on 21/21 FG's.. True Freshman Diego Gutierrez (78 ovr) has taken over where he left off.. Gutierrez has connected on 15/15 FG's to start the season including a season long of 52 yds

                RECRUITING

Like last year, recruiting has been slow during the regular season despite the Broncos having home games in 4 of their first 7 games. The Broncos lost out on 5* Danny Shaw (ATH/O-Line) as Shaw signs with Notre Dame.. Listed at 6'1 306lbs from San Clemente CA, Shaw was the #31 Overall player in the class and the #1 player from the state of California... Shaw also had a scholarship offer from Michigan

Boise State has 25 scholarships available this season but with the transfer portal continuing to offer players other opportunities elsewhere, Coach Miller and his staff still have 33 players listed on their Top-35 Recruiting Board, with several players scheduled to make a Week 9 visit as Boise State hosts (4-3/3-1) Utah

ahh man Roderick Robinson is my guy as a Georgia fan. I expected major things from him last year until until he got hurt. He is also about as good as gets from a power back since he also has some speed. I hope he gets some carries for you

He is a beast.. I wish I could land someone like him to became my feature back but that's hard to do after the find of season that Sire Gaines had last year. Right now through 8 games Gaines has 194 carries for 814 yds and 7 TD well Robinson has 70 carries for 401 yds and 4 TD, so he actually has a better per yd carry average right now. I was a little surprised I landed him because Playing time was one of his deal breakers.. I went into the Portal wanting to land a RB to compete with Ard and Riley for the backup job and only offered him because he had BSU Top-3 and because of his skill set.

Gaines is dealing with some wear and tear so there is a chance that Robinson will see more PT in the final 5 regular season games so Gaines will be healthy for a potential Playoff run if we can win out.. I actually wouldn't be surprised if he ends up with a 1000 yd season and double digit TD's as the backup.

                      BRONCOS PICKUP MUST WIN!!
                      GAME RECAP

Already with 1 loss on the season, Coach Miller knows that a 2nd loss would be a huge blow to the Broncos chances at making the playoffs for a 4th straight season. Utah came into the game (4-3) Overall but (3-1) in Pac-12 play, including a win over Oregon in Week 7 handing the Ducks their 2nd Pac-12 loss which opens up Boise State's chances at a Pac-12 North title.

The Utes are led by former 5* and Boise State recruit Malachi Nelson (85 Ovr). Nelson started his career at USC after being labeled the #1 QB recruit in his class, but hit the transfer portal and was the Broncos backup QB in 2024 before transfering to UTEP.. In 2025 Nelson threw for 3441 yds with 14 TD and 9 INT in 12 games for the Miners but once again hit the Portal moving to Florida International for the 26' season. Nelson started 14 games for the Owls leading them to a CUSA Championship appearance well throwing for 3564 yds with 29 TD and 7 INT.. That performance made him a target in the Portal again as Utah was looking for a starting QB bringing the Los Alamitos CA native back to the Westcoast for his Senior season.

Boise State started strong taking a (14-0) lead in the 1st Quarter but Nelson and the Utes battled back scoring 3 times in the 2nd Quarter to tie the game (21-21) at the half. Utah opened up the 3rd Quarte with a touchdown taking the lead (28-21) and then proceeded to hold BSU to a FG as they went into the 4th leading (28-24).

Boise State would open up the 4th scoring a touchdown to retake the lead (31-28) but Nelson fires his 4th Touchdown of the game as Utah retakes the lead (35-31) with 4:12 to play in the game.

For as good as Nelson was Tavien St Clair was even better as St Clair fires his 5th score of the day with 1:58 to play in the game to give Boise State the 37-35 lead. Not wanting to risk the chance of Utah kicking a FG in the final minutes to win the game, Coach Miller gambled and sent the offense on the field for the 2pt play and St Clair delivers a strike to Cameron Bates to make it a 4pt game..

Nelson would get 1 more chance to lead his team on a game winning drive but the former Bronco comes up short as BSU stops the Utes on a 4th and 3 play as St Clair and the offense setup in the victory formation to run out the clock.

Nelson finished the game (22/37) 59% for 222 yds with 4 TD's.. On the season Nelson has thrown for 2042 yds with 20 TD and 4 INT.

                      FINAL SCORE BOISE STATE-39 UTAH-35

                        A TALE OF 2 HALVES
                        GAME RECAP

It was a rainy Saturday night in Pullman and receivers on both sidelines struggling to make catches.. Still (0-0) at the end of the 1st Quarter, Boise State would turn to it's ground game and Georgia transfers Roderick Robinson II would deliver as Sire Gaines leaves the game early with some minor injuries.. Robinson would carry the ball 21 times in the in the first half finishing with a career high 184 yds including a 20 yd touchdown.

After struggling with 2 drops in the 1st Quarter, SO WR Ezekiel Fogg switched out to some gloves and it seemed to help as Fogg hauls in 4 pass's including 2 touchdowns to give Boise State a (21-0) lead. Still armed with all 3 timeouts BSU got a big stop and forced a punt with 1:18 to play in the half and St Clair runs the 2 minutes offense perfectly as he fires a 33 yd scoring strike to SR TE Matt Wagner to close out the 1st half with a (28-0) lead.

Washington State opened up the 2nd half with the ball and quickly drove the field with a 7 play drive resulting in a touchdown... After forcing a punt the Cougars came back out firing as RS FR Jeremy Hill (74) fires his 2nd touchdown of the game to make it (28-14).

Still (28-14) going into the 4th, Washington State continued to put pressure on St Clair forcing back to back punts, as Washington State closes the gap with another Hill touchdown to make it (28-21). Already without Sire Gaines, the BSU rushing attack took another hit as Robinson is forced from the game early in the 4th Quarter as BSU turns to RS SO Greg Ard and RS JR Dylan Riley as their only 2 healthy backs.

Ard would deliver carrying the ball for a career high 16 times for 96 yds but with the game tied (28-28) with under a minute to play it was Riley who comes up big with a 4 yd touchdown run to give Boise State the lead.

Hill would have one last chance to lead his team down the field with a chance to tie but the RS Freshman comes up short. Hill finished the game 29/50 (58%) for 417 yds with the 3 TD.

                        RECRUITING UPDATE

Well Boise State managed to pull off the win on the field, BSU continues to lose in the recruiting department as 3 key members of the Top-25 board make commitments elsewhere this week.

4* Athlete/TE Felix Sisk (#67 Overall/#3 TE) was projected as the Broncos potential starting TE next season but instead signs with UCLA.

With Starting Center Roderick Kearney set to graduate, BSU went hard after a pair of 4* Centers in Jeremiah Andrews (#171 Overall) and Alfonso Denman (#108).. Andrews signed with Alabama well Deman "Utah's Gatorade Player of the Year/#1 State prospect) will stay home and play for the BYU Cougars.

BSU will go into Week 11 without a single commitment and just 27 players left on their Top-35 Big Board.

                        UP NEXT

With the win and the arrival of the College Football Rankings Poll, BSU moves to #7 going into Week 11 as they will return home to host (2-7) Oregon State. The Beavers are 0-6 in Pac-12 play this season..

                          GAME RECAP

Boise State cruised to it's 9th win of the season improving to 9-1 Overall and 6-1 in the Pac-12 with a Week 11 win over Oregon State (49-7)..

For the Broncos the win keeps their Pac-12 North title hopes alive and a shot in the Pac-12 Championship.. The win also keep's their playoff hopes alive as Boise State looks to return the playoffs for a 4th straight year.

Boise State jumped out to a early (14-0) lead as QB Tavien St. Clair hit a season milestone with his 3000 yd passing. The Redshirt Sophomore transfer from Ohio State has been a superstar this season for the Broncos after taking over for 3 year starter Maddux Madsen. St Clair kept things going in the 2nd Quarter as well with another pair of touchdowns as Boise State took a commanding (28-7) lead into the half.

BSU would turn to it's ground game in the 2nd half as Sire Gaines (25 carries 96 yds. 1 TD) and Roderick Robinson II (6 carries 109 yds, 2 TD's) combine for over 200 yds rushing and 3 TD's in the 2nd half.

They currently sit #1 on 16 of the players prosect boards and are #2 on 5 more and #3 on the rest.. Can they win some battles or will Miller be forced to hit the Portal and hope for the best this off-season?

Yeah, so far it looks like the Pac-12 Championship is a possibility if I can close out with wins over Colorado and Washington. USC lost to Fresno State in Week 11 so they dropped from #11 to 23 and now are tied with Stanford and Arizona State with 2 Pac-12 loss's.. Their loss opens the door for me to potentially claim a Top-4 seed because right now Penn State and Indiana are both in the Top-4 but only 1 will claim the Big Ten title.

                                GAME RECAP

Boise State survived their Week 12 trip to Boulder coming away with their 10th win of the season.. Tied (7-7) at the end of the 1st and again (21-21) at the half, Boise State would open up the 2nd half with a 44 yd FG by FR PK Diego Gutierrez making it (24-21) before Colorado would take the lead for the first time as RS SO Julian Lewis (90 ovr) throws his 3rd touchdown of the game finding SR WR Joseph Williams (88 ovr) on a 22 yd strike to make it (28-24) going into the 4th.

Both teams would trade scores as Lewis throws his 4th TD of the game this time hitting SR WR Drelon Miller (90 ovr) on a 19 yd touchdown to make it (35-24) before Boise State answers back as Sire Gaines scores the first of 2 4th Quarter scores to make it (35-32) after Boise State converts a much needed 2 point play.. A Colorado Punt opened the door for BSU to tie the game (35-35) at Gutierrez hits another 40+ yd FG with 3:31 to play.

Another huge defensive stop by the Broncos would get the ball back with under a minute to play.. BSU moved the ball down the field quickly as Tavien St Clair completes 4/4 pass's on the drive before handing off to Gaines for his 2nd TD of the game and his 10th of the season after rushing for 28 scores last year.
