WKU wins their first bowl game ever, in a close call with ECU. WKU looked sloppy out there turning the ball of three times, one fumble and two interceptions. The win couldn't have come with out, true Freshman, Chris Smith and, true Sophomore, Keshawn Simpson. Also, WKU's defense held strong all game and got pressure on ECU's quarterback, recording four sacks. After the game coach Taylor gave a game ball to every senior, enthusiastically. This is a game that will go down in WKU's history books and these players will be forever remember as the building blocks to a dynasty, congratulations Hilltoppers!

Chris Smith, true Freshman, takes this pitch play 43 yards to the end zone. Who knew this kid was this fast?

Sophomore Keshawn Simpson had a good day, filling in for the injured Bobby Rainey, with 35 yards and two touchdowns.

Seth Tamme, (RS)Senior, catches this pass for a key third down conversion in the second quarter. Tamme finished the day with 60 receiving yards.

This year should be an interesting year, as WKU looks stronger than ever and Troy is bound to give them a run for their money. Also, UL Monroe has improved since last year and they dished WKU their only conference lose. Are you Ready for another year of thrilling, Sun Belt football!?

You had a good season, I can't wait to see what conference you get invited to. Will it be the SEC? ACC? CUSA? MAC?! Who knows, I'm pumped to see though.

                            WKU Season Preview.

Coach Taylor, in a press conference today, said," We are doing something new this year. The coaching staff and I have put together a new playbook to take advantage of our talent.....And it looks pretty good." Yea you heard it WKU has dropped their option playbook for, one of our insiders tells us, a West Coast playbook much like Pitt. Now you may think he is crazy, but just hold on and listen to what he said

Taylor," After seeing that Jakes(starting QB) has a very good arm, we thought we would take advantage of that while he is here....Don't get me wrong we will be a run first team, but with Rainey being our featured back and Chris Smith will spell for him often."

                            Offense (Returning Starters = 7)

                            Quarterbacks (Grade = C)

Kawaun Jakes, (RS)Junior, has made strides in the off-season and he looks to be one of the Hilltoppers most valuable weapon. Also, (RS)Junior, Marcus Vasquez appears to be just as good as Jakes...If not better.

                            Depth Chart
                            1. Kawaun Jakes (RS)Junior
                            2. Marcus Vasquez (RS)Junior
                            3. Courtney Dalcourt (RS)Sophomore

                            *denotes returning starter

                            Halfbacks (Grade = C+)

The Hilltoppers are armed at runningback and any of them can bust one on a defense. None more than, WKU's leading rusher, Bobby Rainey who has looked every good in the offseason and is poised to make it another big year. Also, 2nd All-American, Chris Smith will spell Rainey and looks to do so with brute force. Bowl breakout, Keshawn Simpson will be the back up, but don't expect him to see the ball much....In less one of those guys go down.

                            Depth Chart
                            1. Bobby Rainey (RS)Junior

                            4. Keshawn Simpson Junior

                            *denotes returning starter

                            Fullbacks (Grade = D-)

Western Kentucky really misses thier fullback right about now, because as of now they have, (RS)Freshman walk-on, Chris Walker starting for them with another walk-on backing him up. Although, from what we have seen during training camp Walker can do it all....Don't count him out in the red zone, because he is a battering ram, at 6'4'' 236.

                            Depth Chart
                            1. Chris Walker (RS)Freshman
                            2. Jared Black Freshman

                            Wide Receivers (Grade = C)

With the lose of Tamme, the receiving duties rely on Derrius Brooks, (RS)Senior. Also, Clark Jeter, (RS)Senior, is ready to become a very sure-handed number two option and Will Adams, (RS)Sophomore, fits perfectly at slot receiver. The success of this offense is on the receiving corps shoulders.

                            Depth Chart
                            1. Derrius Brooks (RS)Senior

                            Tight Ends (Grade = C+)

Western Kentucky did not see much of their tight ends last year, but this year is the year for them to shine. On that note, (RS)Junior, Jake Doyle is a beast of a receiver and can catch as good as most of the receivers and so is Tristan Jones, (RS)Senior.

                            Depth Chart
                            1. Jake Doyle (RS)Junior
                            2. Tristan Jones (RS)Senior
                            3. Wes McCoy Senior

                            Offensive Tackles (Grade = C+)

The Hilltoppers lost some key guys on their offensive line last year, but Jake Anderson, (RS)Senior, transferred last year from Akron and looks like a good tackle to be protecting Jakes blindside. Also, the returning starter Wes Jefferies, (RS)Senior, will be taking on the right side.

                            Depth Chart
                            1 LT. Jake Anderson (RS)Senior
                            1 RT. Wes Jefferies (RS)Senior
                            2 LT. Adam Smith (RS)Junior
                            2 RT. Logan Massengale (RS)Sophomore

                            Offensive Guards (Grade = C+)

Shelley Anthony, (RS)Senior is taking up the left side and may just be apart of the best offensive line WKU has seen. Anthony worked hard in the off season and looks to be a dominating lineman. Sean Conway, (RS)Sophomore, occupies the right side and is a really good downhill blocker.

                            Depth Chart

                            Centers (Grade = C)

Luke Stansfield, (RS)Sophomore, will start this year at center. He took the job away from Scott Boyd, Sophomore, who did a fantastic job as a true freshman.

                            1. Luke Stansfield (RS)Sophomore

Brandon Whitty, (RS)Junior, just had an amazing year recording a school record 11 sacks and from what we hear he got better in the off season. Also, Jared Clendenin, (RS)Senior, post good numbers last year as he go 22 tackles for a loss. Kyle Turner, (RS)Freshman and 279 pounds, will be backing up Clendenin. Brandon Whitty will be backed up by, (RS)Freshman and 291 pound, Andrew Morris.

                            Defensive Tackles (Grade = C)

Jamaracus Allen has big shoes to fill, as Harnett graduated last year with the school record of career sacks. Allen, (RS)Junior and only 269 pounds, may be kind of small for a nose tackle. Although, from what we have seen he is one of the strongest guys on the team, he should do very good this season.

                            Outside Linebackers (Grade = C)

Tyran Golden, (RS)Junior, is a returning starter from last years stingy defense and boy he looks good. A much bigger surprise is how good Blake Nixon, (RS)Freshman, looks....No wonder coach Taylor wanted this young man on his team. Although he does have big shoes to fill from graduated Mike Gothard, who was absolutely super human at times.

The true Freshman team of James Gray and Philip Washington are back and looking like seniors in their second year. This two young men grew up before are eyes last year and look even hungry for another Sun Belt title.

                            Cornerbacks (Grade = C)

True Sophomore, Lamar Terrell, has moved up to the number one spot and, (RS)Sophomore, Jamal Forrest has got his chance to make a difference. Both guys worked on their speed in the off season and it has paid of they are the two fastest players on the field. Trent Calhoun will be filling in the Nickle spot for the second year, coach Taylor did not see enough progression from him to place him in the number one spot.

Jon Ferguson, true Sophomore, has made the right steps in off season and has keep his starting job. Ferguson is the best coverage back they have and he hopes to improve from last years poor pass defense. Mark Santoro, (RS)Senior, will provide depth and speed when need; but you should see Ferguson on the field more.

John Garrett, (RS)Senior and one of last years top tacklers, will return for his Senior year and is determined to bring another title back to Bowling Green with him. Providing depth will be, (RS)Freshman, Jarod Bridges who has been absorbing everything he can from Garrett before he leaves.

                            Overall

WKU is looking to repeat their first place finish last year. The Hilltoppers have most of their players from that aggressive defense last year and with the change to a pro style offense, they have a very good chance to repeat.

It was C-USA, but I denied it I'm trying to get the achievement. So I'm waiting for the SEC invite....
