At least it looks like you might win the Sun Belt.

If you like watching shoot outs this will be a game to watch, as two high scoring offenses take the field. WKU's sophomore quarterback needs to step up in this game, to convert key first downs through the air.

Once again WKU's defense came through for them, especially on 4th down in the red zone. Also, K. Jakes threw the ball very well, completing almost every pass he threw and one touchdown pass. Plus, the running game was nice and crisp, with 187 yards. Both rushing touchdowns were scored by Chris Smith, which that adds his season total up to 10. All in all, it was good to see WKU's defense hold this powerhouse offense scoreless in the second half. This is definitely a different defense than we saw last year, which means coach Taylor is doing good stuff.

Chris Smith, true Freshman Running back, gets into end zone from 12 yards out.

Chris Smith gets his second rushing touchdown of the game and tenth of the season.

This is the most important conference game of the year for both of these teams and the icing on the cake is that this is a rivalry game. MTSU has one of the best turnover differences and a very good pass defense, but WKU's rushing attack is going up against a very sub par rush defense. We expect WKU to win this, but be careful MTSU will not be far behind.

WKU came out to play in this one, putting up 14 points in the first quarter. As soon as their offense stalled their defense stepped it up, like they have been doing all season, forcing three turnovers on a very efficient MTSU team. Once again the rushing game was just as fresh as always putting up 220 between two backs and K.Jakes seem to be on target it most of the game. Good news is WKU bowl bound for the first time ever, but with out their star running back, Bobby Rainey, who will miss the rest of the season with a fractured foot.

Bobby Rainey, (RS)Sophomore, pounding it in for six from four yards out.

Dexter Taylor, (RS)Senior, lays a big hit on a MTSU reciever causing him to drop the ball right into, true Freshman, Philip Washington's hands for the second pick of the day.

Trent Calhoun, (RS)Junior, forces the third pick of the day with this interception, his sixth on the season.

WKU is heavily favored to win this one, because of their four game win streak. I wouldn't count Arkansas State out though as they have home field advantage and the last four games have been at L.T. Field. Should be a good though and you can catch it on regional TV, only the fourth time WKU has been on regional TV. Plus, WKU is missing their electrifying back, Bobby Rainey, for the first time all season.

This was a great game, even though Bobby Rainey is out, WKU played their usual tough defense. Plus, Kawaun Jakes played a very good game, 195 all-purpose yards and two passing touchdowns. Another stand out, and was awarded player of the game, was Seth Tamme who returned the first kick off for a touchdown and had another receiving touchdown. Also, Chris Smith had a solid day on the ground, with 118 rushing yards and one touchdown. Overall WKU looks good and is more than ready to make their first bowl appearance ever. So grab your red towels and hold onto your seat!

Seth Tamme, (RS)Senior, took the opening kick off to the house and finished the day with 239 all-purpose yards with two touchdowns.

Seth Tamme, (RS)Senior, catches this pass for 32 yards.

Kawaun Jakes, (RS)Sophomore, had a solid day passing for 167 and two touchdowns. Jakes also ran for 28 yards on 13 carries.

WKU's Coach Awarded Coach of the Year.

Trooper Taylor, in his second year, was named Coach of the Year; after winning the Sun Belt and taking WKU to a 9-3(7-1) season. Plus, Taylor lead WKU to their first ever bowl game, in the New Orleans Bowl.

Coach Taylor said," I'm not being humble when I say this....It was all the kids doing. I just showed them what to do when and they executed it perfectly and I am proud to coach such fine young men."
