Interesting twist with this one. So I assume the UNT dynasty is a done deal?

No. Truthfully, I was burnt out on it because I played a whole season in a day. But I'm going to do it as a weekly basis so I don't get burnt out again. But, yeah I liked the twist in this too.

            38-31

            Overtime Thriller

Giorgio Tavecchio had the chance to kick the game winning field goal as time expired. The snap was good, the hold was good, but the kick, as soon as Tavecchio kicked the ball he knew it wasn't going in. The 40 yard field goal sailed wide right, but at the last second possible it curved back, only to bounce off of the upright.

Midway through the fourth quarter, Cal was up by two touchdowns, the score 31-17, only tot blow the lead. Kansas State scored two quick passing touchdowns in less than a minute to tie things up with less than thirty seconds left. The kickoff was returned back to the 35 by Isi Sofele setting the Bears up with decent field position. Cal having only one timeout had to pass, and pass quick behind the arm of Kevin Riley, who had tossed three interceptions in the first half, one of them returned for a touchdown. Riley threw a bullet to Keenan Allen who was streaking down the sideline. Allen, the freshman sensation was hit, and hit hard going out of bounds. Allen was taken out of the game with a dislocated elbow. Junior wide receiver Marvin Jones stepped up big and caught a pass over the middle to set up Giorgio Tavecchio. Tavecchio missed, and the game went into overtime.

Kansas State won the coin toss opening up overtime and selected to start on defense. Another freshman, Tevin Carter, who burned his redshirt going into overtime had to step up. And after Shane Vereen got a first down, the playcall was 4 Vertical out of the 5 wide receiver set. Carter, was Riley's first option on this play. The freshman caught the strike and got into the endzone recording his first career collegiate touchdown. K-State got the ball after Tavecchio hit the extra point. Darian Hagan, who had already got an interception on the day came flying off the corner on a blitz and hit halfback Daniel Thomas forcing the fumble, that Hagan recovered to end the game.

"Wow, is all I can say. The game was filled with highs and lows. It was a hard fought game by both teams," said Head Coach Kalib McBride after the game.

Cal stays at home this week and plays the Purdue Boilermakers who are 1-1 falling only by 3 points to South Carolina. Purdue is led by freshman quarterback Rob Henry who looks to lead his Boilermakers past the Golden Bears

                      Another Shutout

                      37-0

California's defense looked great as they took it to the Purdue Boilermakers. The key stat was 3, and that was the number of interceptions. The Golden Bears picked off Rob Henry 3 times, and one was in the endzone that was returned 101 yards for a touchdown by Mychal Kendricks. This is a new NCAA record for longest interception return. Mychal Kendricks, the ROLB for the Bears also finished with 5 tackles. Darian Hagan also got an interception, his second in two games. Vachel Samuels, the redshirt freshman also got in on the fun and recorded his first INT.

Shane Vereen finished with 121 yards and a touchdown, his third straight game with 100+ yards and a touchdown. Freshman Tevin Carter stepped up in Keenan Allen's place with 4 receptions. Allen is expected back in 6 weeks due to his dislocated elbow. Kevin Riley had a stellar performance completing 70% of his passes and throwing no interceptions.

Cal travels to the Aloha State to play Hawaii this week.

Pac 12 play opens this week for the Golden Bears as they take on the Arizona State Sun Devils. Last week Cal received some votes to be in the top 25, but not enough to break in. This week, after their 34-21 win over Hawaii, Cal has gotten no votes at all. "We feel left out. But now we're playing with a chip on our shoulder and we have a goal in sight" said Coach McBride. Senior QB Kevin Riley is coming off of his biggest game ever, throwing for 345 yards and 4 touchdowns, hoping recent success will carry over into Pac 12 play.

Michigan is 3-1 under new coach Brady Hoke and his pro style offense. Michigan slipped up in week 3 losing a nail-biter to UTEP. Michigan is led by sophomore quarterback Denard Robinson. Robinson has thrown for 1392 yards with 13 touchdowns, he has also ran for 113 and a pair of scores. Michigan opens up Big Ten play against Northwestern after their bye week this week.

Undefeated #1 Bama is looking good coming off of a win against #17 Arkansas last weekend. The Crimson Tide are led by Heisman hopefuls Trent Richardson, Mark Ingram, and Greg McElroy who has thrown for 1430 yards, 416 of them going to his primary target Julio Jones. Coach Saban will take is 3rd ranked offense into "The Swamp" this week and challenge #22 Florida who is 2-2

(every week I will do a write up on two other teams other than my own, like above. If you would like to see how you're favorite team is doing tell me, and I'll do a recap on them.)

Bye week for the Bears this week. Coach McBride has taken over the offensive playcalling duties due to the lack of balance. "When we run good, we can't pass. When we pass, we can't run." McBride said. McBride will be installing a offense similar to Boise State's this week. "It's very similar, both are pro style offenses." McBride also commented. Cal will be welcoming 6 recruits to campus this week for visits.

The Hokies are ranked 5th in the Coaches and Media poll, boasting an undefeated record. Led by the arm and legs of Tyrod Taylor Virginia Tech has averaged 41.2 points per game. They have played a seemingly easy schedule, their only close game against Boston College which ended 38-28.

The good news for Boise State is Kellen Moore is returning from injury in a week. The better news is that they play a sub-par team in Fresno State next week. Boise passed their first test of the season beating Florida when they were both ranked in the top 10. Last week against FAU the Broncos extended their home winning streak to 59 games, a NCAA record.

This week Cal takes on the #2 team in the land in the Oregon Ducks. Although both teams are 5-0 experts are picking Oregon to take this game easily. Oregon will look to exploit the shaky Cal secondary behind the arm of Darron Thomas. Running back Shane Vereen will look to continue his season-long streak of 100 yard rushing performances.
