    Cal Barley Survives
Oregon couldn't pull off the miracle. 22 Points in the 4th quarter wasn't enough. The 200 offensive yards in the 4th quarter wasn't enough. The California Golden Bears upset the #2 team in the country with strong defense all the way up until that 4th quarter.

"Do you think you won because of Darron Thomas being hurt for the 2nd and 3rd quarters?" was the question that Coach McBride faced after the huge upset win over #2 ranked Oregon. "No," McBride calmly replied, "I think at a major level of college football teams should be more than enough prepared for someone to step up if a starter goes down. We came out and spanked them, it's that simple. We held LaMichael James to 25 yards, and Darron Thomas might have thrown for 300 yards in 2 quarters, but sometimes luck is on your side."

And McBride was right, Darron Thomas did pass for 300 yards on the Cal defense, but there was practically no rush attack for the Ducks. Cal capitalized on Thomas' injury by forcing three 3 and outs in the third quarter to jump out to a 3 score lead. "A win is a win" said defensive captain Mike Mohamed. And that's the way many Cal fans feel.

Shane Vereen finished strong and was a major part in the Bear's offense. He carried the ball 23 times and had 2 touchdowns. He also added another 100 yard performance. Next week The Golden Bears will take on the #3 ranked Utah Utes at home next week.

The Cal Golden Bears jumped up into the top 25 after upsetting #2 Oregon this past week. Cal looks to continue winning this week against the #3 Utah Utes. RB Shane Vereen is 3rd in the nation with 869 rushing yards.Cal also has the #1 ranked recruiting class in the nation with a total of 14 commits. 6 of those are 4 star commits.

Penn State is 4-2 and 1-1 in the Big Ten. They are ranked #19 in the coaches poll climbing 2 spots from last week. Rob Bolden is enjoying success having 1230 passing yards along with 12 touchdowns.

Kent State has started the season relatively decent exceeding expectations with a 3-3 record. Sophomore Spencer Kieth has proven to be the reliable QB and has won the starting job from junior Giorgio Morgan. The Golden Flash's defense is anchored by senior MLB Cobrani Mixon.

Nice close win over Oregon. Looks like your running game was good shape for this game.

My running game is what keeps me in the games. I don't know what I'd do if I had to rely on Riley. Dude is so inconsistent

Thanks, I think if it wouldn't have been for the very close penalty on the onside kick I would have lost. Look back a few pages, I had a good game with k-state as well. I'm going to get the utah and washington games posted in a little bit.

The name of the game was ball control, well that is true for the Cal Golden Bears. The Bears controlled the ball for more than 19 minutes. "It worked, I told Kevin (Riley) to go out there and grind the clock down. He may have not have got the big numbers, but he managed the offense very well." "Hell, that was probably the most boring game I've ever been a part of, but we won and that's all that matters," said Coach McBride about the game. Cal has beat a top 3 team two straight weeks, and look to continue their winning ways against The Washington Huskies in Seattle next Saturday. Edit: The stats say Utah, but they're for Cal. My bad, my blunder.

The Golden Bears came out to run. All three running backs got more than 10 carries. Cal didn't throw as pass all game, they ran around, inside, outside, and through the huskies defense. "Obviously, I'm very happy with the running game, hahahaa," said McBride after the game as he had a good laugh with ESPN reporter Erin Andrews.

Shane Vereen rushed for a school record 339 yards on Washington's weak defense. #7th ranked Cal takes on Washington State this week. "Who
knows, Riley might break a passing record next week, anything is possible," McBride commented.

He keeps putting up 100 yard games and he leads the nation in running, i'm confused why he isn't already. Murray from Oklahoma has more reception yards, maybe I could get Vereen involved in the passing game

                              California Sized Shootout!
Cal may have overlooked Washington State a little bit coming in today. After Senior QB Kevin Riley went down, the first time things started looking slim, but after straining his abdominal fans had lost all hope. Insert redshirt Freshman Allan Bridgford, a 6-3 199 pound quarterback who had only taken limited snaps behind Riley. McBride could have went with sophomore Beau Sweeney, but said that Bridgford was "mentally capable" of leading a comeback. And lead is an understatement. Bridgford is the reason the Bears won today. Shane Vereen went down in the fourth with a minor injury not causing him to lose playing time next week. Sophomore Isi Sofele, who is the primary kick returner, coming off of a 4 TD game last week continued to excel, scoring the winning touchdown.
Jeff Tuel, WSU QB lit up the Bear's defense, throwing for more than 400 yards. WSU almost pulled off the upset, but fell to 1-8, while the Golden Bears stayed perfect at 9-0.

Mike Mohamed and the #1 ranked rush defense of Cal Golden Bears will march into Corvallis this Saturday to take on the Oregon State Beavers. Freshman sensation Kennan Allen is questionable for the game, coming off a dislocated elbow injury. Kevin Riley is most definitely out with a strained abdominal. Allan Bridgford will be stepping up in his place again. Allan had a spectacular performance against Washington State. In other news Shane Vereen is not getting any attention for the Heisman, which has had Cal fans outraged.
