      Lejon Saga Ends

The Raiders actually did offer Davarius Bullock as part of the package and the Falcons said that they wanted a "better positional upgrade" according to sources.

"What, do they want Maeweather?" One team source commented.

Rumors are that Karl Kruger drew no interest, despite the Falcons claiming to have a need at TE.

"Well, good luck with him." Lyle was quoted as saying by an anonymous source, "We'll just explore other options."

Some wonder why Oakland doesn't pick up Tyrod Taylor off the street if they want a mobile QB. Or Ryan Tannehil. Maybe a second chance to salvage something of a career would motivate him.

Or perhaps the Raiders will kiss their sister and trade with the Chiefs now that Blane Giles is riding the pine in favor of Kian McKenzie.

Or if they are going to pay blood, go after a gamer like Russel Wilson. That might push Martens to get his head in the game as well.

"I say we get Tebow. Then if nothing else, we could entertain ourselves with watching two cult fanbases argue over which QB is less bad, " one team official spoke. Reports are that this guy was fired once his comment was discovered.

Whatever the case, Martens is expected to return and Kip Ricketts remains...for now. The QB saga will take a back seat - at least until Martens has another 4 INT game...or if he gets hurt again.

Would you start Wilson over Martens?

I'll have to check ratings. If Wilson is better - I might have to see what it'd take...

This QB situation is just...gah. I have terrible luck with QBs. My TB franchise in M12 was equally bad once Josh Freeman wanted $16M/yr. I was like "meh" I have a good backup...and never found a franchise guy since... LOL

I'm tempted to get RG3 off the bench in Carolina...guess it'd be as realistic as RG3 being on the bench in Carolina

            Week 5 - Midweek News

            NCAA Football News:

Alabama HB Latrell Robinson rushed for over 230 yards last week in a win over Florida.

SC LB Logan Bollinger is now considered the second overall pick after showing he's possibly the best college player in the nation.

Wisconsin's Rodney Morgan will now play on the defensive line after several injuries depleted the depth. He'll play as a defensive end.

            NFL News:

The Cowboys and Raiders will meet in a match of undefeated teams.

Saints sign TE Jimmy Graham for 6 years at $59.7 M.

DeMeco Ryans signed a 1-year extension with the Panthers.

HB Jamaal Charles is likely to be out several weeks with an injury.

The Bills continue their undefeated season by beating the Dolphins 31-17.

49ers WR Eric Decker racked up 165 yards to help his team win last week.

49ers QB Alex Smith threw for a perfect passer rating against the Giants.

            Raiders News

The Raiders can't pick up ground on the Broncos, who advanced to 3-1, but the Chargers and Chiefs lost to fall 2 and 3 games back, respectively. The Raiders will try to keep the perfect season going against the 3-0 Cowboys, who are coming off their bye.

QBKevin KolbOut 2 weeks (broken wrist)

Danny Martens and DeRay Ray return to put the offense back at full strength.

            Roster News:

Martens will return to the starting QB spot and DeRay Ray is likely to be starting HB with Bull Griggs also sharing time. Martens will be looking to put to rest any thoughts that the QB position is unsettled.

            Transaction News:

Both WR Denarius Moore and DT Immanuel Dawn rejected the offer sheet the Raiders presented to them last week. Both agents have mentioned that they want to keep communication open and work something out.

Moore has said that he wants his agent to "work it out quickly because he wants to stay a Raider." There are rumors that a deal was worked out in the middle of the week, but no information at this time has come public.

Dawn, Kruger and Bullock remain unsigned and could be put up for trade talks soon as the deadline comes around the corner. Dawn and Bullock don't figure to have a lot of leverage with the defense continuing to play well. With the WR unit improving, the TE is less of a threat in the passing attack, diminishing Kruger's role.

Russell Wilson's name has also been brought up as the Redskins have not even begun talks with the pending free agent. Wilson plays a different game than Martens, but it could be an adjustment that's not too hard to make. That said, there could be a reason why the Redskins have not started negotiations - or perhaps talks are going on behind the scenes.

There are whispers that Bullock being the centerpiece of a deal might make something happen.

Breaking News: RG III a Raider

The Raiders made a move dealing a 1st round pick, currently projected to be 4th overall, along with young talents TE Karl Kruger and LB Davarius Bullock to bring in RG III, along with a couple young "maybes" to even the roster space in TE Bryce Piper and LB Kendall McElhaney.

"I'm glad to get the chance to start again in the NFL, " Griffin spoke, "I was devastated when the Redskins let me go because I love that city and I think they loved me. Sometimes, you have to bide your time in this game and keep working hard. I thank the Panthers coaching staff for helping me along with their own Cam Newton and wish them success."

Griffin becomes the starter in Oakland, perhaps giving them the best QB the franchise has had since Ken Stabler.

Kip Ricketts has already been released, as expected.

The move of Bullock puts all the onus square on Hazzard to rise up. Obviously, the Raiders think he has upside to burn, but he is still learning the game at the NFL level. Jake Olsen gets the start on the weak side at LB.

TE Bryce Piper is more interesting than he may appear. While he'll be the #2 TE, he has some pass catching ability and is not a terrible run blocker. He's a bit lesser version of Kruger, and should fill the same shoes.

"We are ecstatic to bring someone of this caliber in, but I think folks need to remember that he [RG3] hasn't started in 3 years since going to Carolina. There may be some regaining of bearing on his part. That said, we don't plan to bring him along slowly. He's a smart man and knows we're looking to go places this year, " Lyle spoke at the press conference.

Griffin, 29, threw for 4,000 yards each of his 4 years in Washington before being signed by Carolina. In 2015, his last year with the Redskins, he posted a career high 40 TDs.

In his time with the Redskins, Griffin threw for a total of 17,491 yards and 135 TDs against 69 INTs.

Of course, the Raiders get no respect from some in the media. Skip Bayless tweeted about Kruger getting to go from Oakland to a "team with plenty of talent" - saying nothing of getting a phenom like RG3. No one else had any comment at all.

"That's okay, " WR Denarius Moore commented, "Haters gonna hate. Ballers gonna ball. We need to just keep doing our thing and they can hate us all the way to the Super Bowl."

Good trade acquiring Griffin but how was your first rounder projected to be the 4th overall draft pick when you're 4-0?

Raiders Stay Perfect With 31-13 Win Over Cowboys.

The buzz was about RG3's first game as a Raider, but the meat and potatoes continued to be the hard-hitting and aggressive defense.

The defense generated six sacks, all by the two bookends of Lett and Ash, both of whom are making the most of their opportunities. Each defensive end got three sacks.

On top of that, Maeweather kept getting pressure when coming on a blitz, narrowly missing some sacks but forcing early throws.

Maeweather did get one good hit on the QB Norwell on a scramble. The linebacker forced the ball loose and Tevin Ash picked up the fumble. Tyvon Branch also forced a fumble, which was recovered by Immanuel Dawn.

The secondary got into the act with three interceptions, two of which coming by J.J. Smoke. The young CB also scored a defensive TD with the return of his first interception of the game.

RG3 did look a bit out of sync, and his receivers didn't help with 5 drops. The lack of precision showed in the 50% completion percentage as well as the two red zone interceptions. Griffin made two long throws for scores, however, finding Akia Green with both of them.

Green, who became the primary target after an injury to Moore, picked up 160 yards and 2 TDs on the day.

DeRay Ray didn't have a blowout day, but he did rush for a TD.

"It felt good to be back in the saddle. There's some things I need to work out and get a feel for the rhythm of my new teammates, but I think overall we did well today and we got the win, " Griffin commented.

The best series for Griffin was a 99-yard drive on 9 plays that ended with Ray's touchdown. Griffin also used his legs to convert three third downs and picked up 41 yards on 7 carries on the day.

                            Raiders News

The Raiders keep the perfect season alive to move to 5-0. The defense continues to play exceptional football, and the offense is doing enough and, more importantly, not making too many mistakes. RG3's arrival should also give the offense a boost as well.

The Broncos are giving no quarter, however. They also won to move to 4-1 and keep the pressure on the Raiders to win or risk falling into a tie for first. The Chiefs and Chargers are struggling to find consistency in the early going and both are 2-3.

Raiders' Next Game: Raiders (5-0) @ Patriots (2-3)

Moore suffered a minor injury last week, but will still miss one game. The Raiders have the bye on Week 7, so he will only miss this week's game and return in time for a key matchup with the Broncos on Week 8.

Only one more week before the Raiders can release Kolb and get that roster slot back.

                            Transaction News:

WR Denarius Moore did indeed accept the contract offer presented to him last week, netting him a 5-year deal worth a total of $40 M.

The trading of Bullock and Kruger leaves the Raiders with one player still asking for a contract, DT Immanuel Dawn.

                            Roster News:

J.J. Smoke was honored with an AFC Defensive Player of the Week Award.

Rookie wide outs De'Aarius Bumpers and Sam Jackson will swap spots on the depth chart. Jackson has been inconsistent so far this year, and the team will use the Moore injury to try Bumpers in the starting spot and see what he can do.

                            Notable Progression:

                              Win Again, 27-20 Over Patriots.

                              Someone made Keithen Lett mad.

The speed rusher was all over Ryan Fitzpatrick all day long, and he racked up 6 sacks to lead the way to another handful for the team.

Maeweather also was a big contributor to the defense. He picked up 10 tackles, a sack of his own, a pick, and a fumble recovery. Only things he didn't do was score and force a fumble, but he was in on both takeaways.

Offensively, another up-and-down day for RG3, but no picks this time and 2 TD passes in the red zone. He also ran in a TD at the goal line with a QB draw play. He didn't pick up a lot of yards, but was effective and kept plays alive, although he, too, was pummeled by the pass rush.

"I've never seen two defensive lines slamming the opposing QB so harshly. That was unbelievable to watch, " a sportscaster commented.

The Raiders hit the half up 17-10 on the strength of the defense forcing a fumble deep in Patriots territory. Maeweather made his recovery, and 2 plays later, RG3 found De'Aarius Bumpers for the score.

Later in the game, Akia Green would suffer a broken thumb and have to leave. Without both Moore and Green, who is looking like RG3's favorite target, the Raiders shifted gears to a shorter passing game. This seemed to help Griffin find some rhythm, especially in the 4th quarter where he led a 12-play drive, mostly with short passes. The Raiders only came away with a field goal, but that made the game a 14-point affair.

That field goal would come in handy as Ryan Fitzpatrick later led a strong 2-minute drive that made it's way, barely, into the end zone. The booth reviewed the play, but confirmed the score.

The Raiders couldn't run out the clock, partly because of a bad holding penalty that wiped away a RG3 run for a first down, and the Pats got the ball in excellent field position, their own 46.

But the defense wouldn't have any tying rally. Lett picked up sack number 6 during the drive, and on fourth down, Branch batted down the pass to seal the game.

The move to bring Bumpers into the starting WR spot seemed to be a good one. He didn't make any big plays, but he made a lot of tough catches and was responsible for both receiving TDs.

The battle in the middle of the field was a hotly contested one between Rob Gronkowski and typically Kendle Maeweather. Gronkowski picked up 130 yards on 8 receptions, but Maeweather got his INT on a pass intended for the big tight end. He made a solid return, stopped only by Fitzpatrick. The Raiders would score a TD on that turnover drive.

The Raiders advance to 6-0, their best start since starting 8-0 some years back (ended up 12-4 that year) and 8-1 in Martens' rookie season (finished 11-5).

WR Calvin Johnson is 5th in receiving yards all-time.

The Raiders and Bills are the last two unbeaten teams standing. The Raiders are 6-0 and the Bills are 5-0. The Titans lost last week to drop to 4-1.

                                Raiders News

The Raiders continue the quest for perfection with a tough win last week. The Broncos continue to match the Raiders and are still just one back at 5-1. The Chiefs have climbed up to .500 with a win last week to sit at 3-3.

RG3 is 2-0 since coming to the Raiders and the defense continues to make enough plays to help the offense score. Can it continue?
