Both of those players have since graduated. Bryan Higgins became an All-American QB (one of the best to ever play at Tulane), and Charlie Smith became a top-flight CB. The funny thing is, both of them took snaps at WR at some point in their careers. Higgins had 4 career receiving TDs, Smith had 1.

Re: Tulane Football: "From Worst to First"
Ran All Over 'Em
Record-setting performance lifts Tulane to Rose Bowl win
January 2, 2020
New Orleans Times-Picayune
Another year, another BCS Bowl victory for the Green Wave, their third straight in as many years. For the second time Tulane put a beat-down on the Oregon Ducks, this time in an offensive manner rather than defensive. Unlike the Wave's first two BCS games that were rather close decisions, this one was a rout. Tulane ran 'em out of the stadium to the tune of 526 rushing yards, 208 of which came from HB Eric Foreman. Foreman crossed the 1000-yd mark on his first carry of the game, making him Tulane's 3rd 1000-yd rusher of the season. That first carry was a 71-yd touchdown run, putting Tulane on the board for the 1st time & giving them the lead. A lead they never relinquished, as Oregon struggled to maintain offensive rhythm all game. While Oregon did put up yards (507 to be exact), they didn't put up enough points.
Tulane's rushing attack gashed the Oregon D worse than they had been gashed all season.
It was a pretty Sea of Green in the Rose Bowl crowd, half the crowd wearing green & yellow and half the crowd wearing green & teal. The Green & Teal crowd was on their feet all game as Tulane had no problem scoring points. Despite this, the game was sloppy. Both teams committed turnovers left & right. Tulane got into scoring position with a 14-3 lead, when a big hit laid on Eric Foreman jarred the ball loose, giving Oregon an early turnover. That would lead to a punt, saving Tulane its face. Oregon would later turn it over on a speed option pitch, and safety Bruce McDaniel took the ball 53 yds to the house. 21-3 Green Wave. Ironically, QB Adam Barnes would do the same thing on Tulane's next possession. An option pitch gone wrong, and Oregon recovered the ball. That would lead to a Ducks FG, and a 21-6 game. In the midst of all this mayhem, Oregon QB Mario Goodman would leave the game with a injury. When he came back, he tossed 2 INTs. One would lead to an Adam Barnes TD pass to TE LaShawn Anderson (Anderson's 1st career TD catch), the other would ALMOST lead to a Tulane score. Barnes led the troops downfield right before the half, and almost got a score. But lurking underneath the defense was Ducks LB Thomas West, and he would steal the ball from the air, ending scoring hopes. Despite the 3 turnovers, the Green Wave took a 28-6 lead into the locker room, and felt good about their performance.
Despite the Ducks' struggles, a few of their players had great games. WR Matt McLaurin posted 9 catches for 198 yds & a TD.
After the bands performed at halftime, the Ducks stormed out of the locker room & took the wind out of Tulane's sails. Mario Goodman connected with WR Matt McLaurin on a 75-yd TD bomb, making it a game again at 28-13. After all the offense in the first half, Tulane was held to three-and-out on their 1st possession of the second half. Oregon would strike again, this time a methodical drive leading to a Goodman rushing score. Just like that, 28-6 became 28-21 (after Oregon completed a 2-pt attempt). That's as close as Oregon would get however, as the Tulane Offensive kept it moving on the ground. HB Dive, HB Counter, HB Power O. Those were the key plays in the game, and they worked to perfection. Every now & then they would throw in a HB Stretch run. The speed & power combo of Eric Foreman & T.C. Pickens torched the Oregon D all game, proving yet again that the Ducks struggle against physical teams. T.C. Pickens led the team in carries, while Foreman led the team in rushing yds. The Green Wave would score again on the ground, making it 35-21. Both teams tacked on FGs, making it 38-24 after three periods. Pickens added his only rushing score in the game in the final quarter, increasing the lead to 45-24. Mario Goodman would get knocked out of the game again with injury, but this time he came back & tossed a touchdown pass. The 51-yd strike to WR Joe Dennis brought the game back to within 2 scores, but the speed demon Eric Foreman drilled the final nail in the coffin for Oregon. With less than 7:00 left in the game, he took a power run 45 yds to paydirt, after hopping, skipping & jumping over a few defenders. His signature run of the game made it 52-31 Green Wave, and sealed the deal for Tulane. Goodman tossed 2 late-game INTs right to CB Cedric Hill, who tied Tulane's school record for picks in a season (9).
Mario Goodman tried to lead a comeback for Oregon. But it wasn't meant to be, as Cedric Hill's late INTs sealed the win for Tulane.
As we said earlier, it was a record-setting performance for Tulane. Let's look at all the records broken in the game by the Green Wave.
- FBS record: Rushing yards in a season by one team (5,305)
- NCAA record: Number of players with 1000 yds rushing on same team (3)
- FBS record: Rushing TDs in a season by one team (60)
- NCAA record: Sacks in a season by one team (88)
With the starters worn out towards the end, Coach Willingham sent in his 4th-string RB, Michael Strong, to close out the game. His 10 carries & 59 yards are what earned the single-season rushing yards record for Tulane. HBs T.C. Pickens & Eric Foreman, and QB Adam Barnes each finished with over 1000 yds rushing for the year. That makes Tulane the first team since the Wisconsin Badgers of 2011, to have three 1000-yd rushers on the same team. All-in-all, it was a record-setting season for the Green Wave, and that season was capped off with a record-setting performance in the Rose Bowl.
Kaelyn Willingham (Tulane HC): "I'm proud of these boys for how they fought, and how they handled this season. We were struck with some adversity of start off the year, having to kick a few players off the team. But these guys rallied, and truly had a season for the ages."
Chip Kelly (Oregon HC): "I tell you what, that is a heck of a team we lost to today. It's the second time they beat us, and they're only gonna get better. The ACC better watch out, cuz Tulane might win that conference in their first year in the league."
Yesterday's game was the last game Tulane competed in as an American Athletic Conference member, and they'll ride into the sunset with a Rose Bowl victory. They'll also head into the off-season on a 22-game winning streak (dating back to early last season), and a 27-game in-conference win streak (Tulane hasn't lost a conference game since 2016). Will those streaks end next year? Who knows. But Coach Willingham & the Green Wave will enjoy this win, before heading back to New Orleans & beginning preps for the future.

Re: Tulane Football: "From Worst to First"
Originally posted by ShowMeYourTDsCongrats on the win and on a perfect season. Too bad you couldn't get a shot at the title. Next year you'll definitely have a better shot. And damn have you turned your rushing game into a monster. That's too be expected with that playbook though.
That was actually the first time in ANY dynasty I've ever done, where I went undefeated in the regular season but DID NOT play for the National Title. You know what? I like it that way. I should't be automatically guaranteed a National Title spot just for going undefeated. Especially since Tulane has been playing as a mid-major for the past 8 seasons. There should be more suspense at the end of the regular season, and I'm glad that it turned out that way.
Anyway, I'm excited for ACC play, but don't expect it to be easier. Our competition is a lot better, offensively & defensively. We truly had an "offense for the ages" this year, but mostly against scrub competition. The ACC will really test our metal, and I'm excited for it. As for my playbook, I use a custom playbook. Our rushing offense this year was the culmination of:
- me building & tweaking the playbook over the years,
- Tulane having its deepest backfield, probably ever.
I'll be tweaking the playbook some more as usual in the off-season, and we should only get better from here. A bit of a surprise honestly, considering I kicked our best RB (Josh Williams) off the team before the season started. Pickens & Foreman just fit the system perfectly. We're at the point now where having <300 YPG rushing is considered a disappointment.Who Dey!

Re: Tulane Football: "From Worst to First"
End of Season Review
January 12, 2020
The Roll Wave Report
2019 was a "season of the ages" for the Tulane Green Wave, with a rushing attack that was one of the NCAA's best ever, and a defense that could completely stifle the opposition. We knew about some of the team's big-name players already coming into the season, but a few new faces took over the headlines en route to Tulane's banner year. As we put this season officially to a close, The Roll Wave Report looks back at some of the key performers on the Tulane Green Wave squad this season.
Tulane Green Wave Stats - 2019 Passing C/ATT YDS AVG YDS/G LONG TD INT RAT Adam Barnes 144/220 2002 154.0 18 12 158.0 Cam Jackson 14/23 128 10.6 2 0 136.3
Passing
With the running game as big a behemoth as it was this year, it's no surprise the passing numbers are low. What's notable about this year's passing game are a few things. Junior QB Adam Barnes threw 220 passes on the season, more than in any year his predecessor Bryan Higgins had. While the team was committed to the ground attack, Coach Willingham expressed interest in opening up the passing attack in 2019. This was evidenced by the number of 200-yd passing games Barnes had this season (3 - more than Higgins had in either of his 2 yrs as a starter). The coaches would like Barnes to reduce his turnovers next year, as 12 INTs in a run-heavy offense is unacceptable. The team planned to have a balanced 2-QB rotation coming into the year, but Barnes' dominating performances at the start of the season derailed those plans. Still, junior Cam Jackson put up respectable numbers.
Tulane Green Wave Stats - 2019 Rushing ATT YDS AVG LONG 20+ TD YDS/G FUM T.C. Pickens 228 1212 5.3 11 93.2 Adam Barnes 167 1478 8.8 13 113.6 Eric Foreman 147 1133 7.7 13 87.1 Bobby Willis 71 240 3.3 10 18.4 Michael Strong 42 219 5.2 1 31.2 Cam Jackson 38 589 15.5 7 49.0 Robert Rushing 10 49 4.9 1 4.9 Corey Brown 9 196 21.7 2 16.3 Chris Davis 8 138 17.2 2 10.6 Jason Eaton 6 20 3.3 0 1.5
Rushing
As you can see, the running game this year was mostly a 3-man attack, with HB T.C. Pickens leading the way. Tulane posted 3 1000-yd rushers, the first team since Wisconsin in 2011 to accomplish that feat. They are poised to do the same next year, as all three players return. Adam Barnes was truly a dual-threat quarterback, as his 1478 yds on the ground led all QBs in the nation. The big surprise of the year was speed demon HB Eric Foreman, who toted 1133 yds on the ground & 13 TDs, despite not starting a single game this season. All his numbers came as the #2 back! QB Cam Jackson also put up good rushing numbers despite playing backup to Barnes all season. While FB Bobby Willis didn't quite put up the # of yards coaches expected him to, they were more than pleased with his 10 TDs. The coaches were also impressed by the relief play of 3rd-string back Michael Strong.
Tulane Green Wave Stats - 2019 Receiving REC YDS AVG TD LONG DROPS YDS/G YAC Chris Davis 32 449 14.0 5 0 34.5 125 Chris Gandy 22 355 16.1 5 3 27.3 76 Joe Johnson 21 299 14.2 3 1 23.0 127 T.C. Pickens 19 147 7.7 0 3 11.3 183 Jason Eaton 18 339 18.8 3 4 26.0 107 Corey Brown 18 266 14.7 3 1 22.1 36 Bobby Willis 13 86 6.6 0 1 6.6 80 Eric Foreman 9 107 11.8 0 3 8.2 129 LaShawn Anderson 4 55 13.7 1 1 7.8 11
Receiving
The receiving numbers are nothing to write home about this year, but there are some notables. Chris Davis led the team with 32 catches & 449 yds, and tied Chris Gandy for the team lead in touchdowns (5). With Gandy & Jason Eaton graduating this spring, Davis will be the front-runner to take over the top WR spot next year. The surprise in the receiving department this year was TE Joe Johnson. The TE usually isn't featured in Willingham's offense outside of extra blocking, but the junior's "sneaky athleticism" allowed him to turn in 21 catches & 3 TDs. With the relative inexperience returning next year in this department, expect the RBs to be featured more in the passing game. That means EVEN MORE touches for T.C. Pickens & Eric Foreman.
Tulane Green Wave Stats - 2019 Blocking PCAKE SACK Jason Cantrell 111 2 Joe Johnson 78 1 Tramon Patrick 70 2 Bobby Willis 59 0 Erik Lane 58 3 Mike Jackson 58 4 Willie Berry 50 2 LaShawn Anderson 21 0 T.C. Pickens 21 0 Charlie King 20 0
Blocking
These numbers say it all: our blocking was GREAT this year. Easily the best blocking Willingham's had at Tulane! As a team we only allowed 18 sacks on the year, making us on of the best in the pass-blocking department. Our egregiously high number of pancake blocks shows how aggressive our offensive line is at the point of attack. LG Jason Cantrell led the team in that regard with 111. The surprising number is Joe Johnson's 78. The tight end had 57 more pancake blocks than receptions. Shows you how tight ends are utilized in Coach Willingham's offense. The best part? The entire starting offensive line returns next year.
Tulane Green Wave Stats - 2019 Tackles Sacks Interceptions Defense SOLO AST TOT SACK TLOSS PD INT TD Calvin Walker 65 34 99 7.5 18 4 2 0 Bruce McDaniel 53 38 91 11.5 27 1 1 1 Tom Grier 65 25 90 8.5 32 0 2 0 Micah Rosario 53 26 79 12.0 23 4 2 0 Claude James 43 35 78 0.0 7 7 1 0 Jason Harper 34 27 61 0.0 1 11 2 1 Cedric Hill 26 19 45 0.0 1 10 9 1 Lee Perkins 26 7 33 12.0 20 0 0 0 Eddie Cox 13 14 27 9.0 11 0 0 0 Nick Rhodes 12 13 25 1.5 5 0 1 0 Jason Muhammad 8 11 19 3.5 5 0 0 0 Bernard Ross 12 6 18 6.5 12 0 0 0 Shelton Mason 7 8 15 5.5 5 0 0 0 Matt Taylor 7 8 15 4.5 6 0 0 0 Kevin Atkinson 8 6 14 0.0 1 0 0 0 Rob Bryan 9 4 13 0.0 2 0 2 0 Larry Bell 3 7 10 0.0 0 1 0 0 Sidney Walker 8 2 10 0.0 0 1 2 0 Jason Huggins 7 2 9 2.0 4 0 0 0 James Robinson 3 5 8 1.0 1 0 0 0 Cameron Anderson 3 3 6 0.0 2 0 0 0
Defensive
The defense this year was Jekyll & Hyde. At times they were atrocious, at times they were spectacular. The lows were highlighted by giving up 500+ yards to LSU, Illinois, Houston & Temple. The highs were noted with a beat-down of UCF, a shut-out of SMU, and a shut-down of ECU's Heisman candidate Mike Mayhew. Oh yeah, three Green Wave defenders finished the year with 10+ sacks. As a team we had 88. EIGHTY-EIGHT!With the adjustments the coaching staff made halfway through the season, the defense finished the year with the nation's #1 run defense. Most of that unit will be returning next year. The secondary, however, will undergo changes. Cedric Hill & Jason Harper are graduating this spring, which means Tulane will have to replace its top 2 cornerbacks. They'll also have to replace FS Claude James, who did a pretty good job this year as the D's safety valve. Luckily for them, they have 2 guys ready to compete in the secondary already in Rob Bryan & Sidney Walker, as well as incoming freshman Robert Jennings.

Originally posted by ShowMeYourTDsCongrats on the huge numbers this year. I had to look up the 3 1000 yard rusher thing because I didn't think that was really possible and from what I can see, the only team to ever have 3 1000 yard rushers was Nevada in 2009. I might be wrong though, I just thought I'd let you know. Great report as always.
EDIT: It ALMOST happened. The year was 2010, and Montee Ball fell 4 yards short of 1000.
James White: 1052 yds, 14 TD
John Clay: 1012 yds, 14 TD
Montee Ball: 996 yds, 18 TD

Kaelyn Willingham courted by Arizona, Air Force, Indiana
Coach vows to remain at Tulane
January 20, 2020
2:00PM
Tulane head football coach Kaelyn Willingham has been linked to several head coaching vacancies over the past several days. ESPN College Football insider Pat Forde has reported that Willingham's name has come up specifically for the Arizona, Air Force & Indiana jobs. Those schools have struggled mightily in recent years & this season combined for a grand total of 9 wins. Willingham just recently completed a 13-0 season at Tulane, capped off with a Rose Bowl victory over Oregon. With the Green Wave competing at a high level right now, and with the school joining the ACC in all sports next season, Willingham is not expected to leave.
Willingham: "I am flattered that schools are considering me for their head coaching vacancies. But at this time I have no plans to leave Tulane University. I like it here, my family likes it here, and we've got a great thing going right now in New Orleans."
Other names linked to those openings include Chris Petersen of Boise State, Bud Foster of Houston, and Mark Stoops of Miami (OH). Kaelyn Willingham is entering the 2nd year of a 3-yr contract extension signed last off-season, and it is unknown right now if Tulane will offer him a pay raise.Who Dey!

UMass hires Matt Hasselbeck to be Offensive Coordinator
January 21, 2020
12:30PM
Matt Hasselbeck has decided to test out his coaching chops. And in doing so, he'll be heading back to the state where he made his name.
The former Seattle Seahawks gunslinger has accepted the offensive coordinator position at UMass, a school that has struggled mightily since joining the FBS ranks in 2012. Hasselbeck will return to the state of Massachusetts, where he was a standout quarterback at Boston College. Playing for the Eagles from 1994 to 1997, he was then drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the 1998 NFL Draft. He was later traded to the Seattle Seahawks, where he go down as one of the great quarterbacks in franchise history. His 10 years in Seattle included an appearance in Super Bowl XL, a loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He would finish his career with the Tennessee Titans & Indianapolis Colts, before spending the next few years in retirement. Apparently, he got the football itch again.
Hasselbeck: "When I hung my cleats up in the NFL, I though I was done with football for good. But I got the itch again and I'm excited to be a coach."
Hasselbeck agreed to a 3-yr contract that will pay him $200,000 annually, in addition to bonus money should the Minutemen achieve success on the gridiron.Who Dey!

Re: Tulane Football: "From Worst to First"
Sean Lee agrees to become Rutgers DC
January 21, 2020
4:15PM
Hours after one NFL star announced plans to join the college coaching ranks, another one has followed right behind him.
Recently-retired Dallas Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee has agreed to become the defensive coordinator at Rutgers, a team that struggled this past season in the Big Ten. Lee is quite familiar with the Big Ten, having spent his college days at Penn State. He interviewed to become the D-Coordinator at his alma mater, but the school decided to retain its current staff. Rebuffed, he decided to accept an offer at the rival school in New Jersey. This will be Lee's first coaching gig at any level, and the Scarlet Knights are paying him quite well.
Lee recently retired from the NFL after an illustrious 10-year career with the Dallas Cowboys. That career included back-to-back trips to the Super Bowl in 2015 & 2016, with the team winning Super Bowl LI. Dealing with nagging injuries his whole career, and with a Super Bowl ring on his left hand, he decided to play out the final years of his contract & ride out into the sunset. He will join a Rutgers squad led by HC Pete Lembo, who just recently signed a contract extension with the school. The Scarlet Knights have had varying success since joining the Big Ten in 2014, but the defense has been a major ailment. Rutgers hopes that Sean Lee is the answer to their many defensive questions.Who Dey!
