    BCS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

A physical Ohio St defense set the tone early in this one after a bone crushing hit by safety Jack Tatum on Louisville WR Mark Clayton doing the opening possession. That set the stage as the Buckeyes held the #1 scoring offense in the country to just 10 points.

Louisville led by it's All American QB Johnny Unitas had been blistering teams all year avg 43 points per game. Unitas despite throwing for 333 yards couldn't get his Cardinals into the end zone all game until late in the 3rd QTR.

The Buckeye's 2 headed monster at RB Archie Griffin and Heisman Runner up Eddie George helped the team rush for 262 yards on the day with George scoring on TD runs of 4 & 38 yards to put Ohio St up 14-0 midway through the 2nd QTR.

Louisville had a pair of outstanding performances of their own from 2nd team All American TE Jamie Asher who had 12 receptions for 214 yards & Thorpe Award Winning DB Sam Madison had 2 Interceptions on the day.
