Andre Tippett led a dominant defensive effort by the Hawkeyes to help them claim the Floyd of Rosedale Trophy

    3:30 PM ET, September 28,

    TCF Bank Stadium, Minneapolis, MN

The Iowa Hawkeyes remained one the surprising undefeated teams in College Football as they knocked off Big Ten Rival Minnesota 31-10.

A stingy Hawkeye defense led by DE Andre Tippett (2 sacks) limited the Golden Golphers to just 225 yards of total offense.

Senior RB Ronnie Harmon carried the offensive load for Iowa by rushing for 175 yards & 3-TD's which included a 56 yard scoring play in the 1st QTR.

Minnesota's DE Carl Eller recorded another sack giving him 5.5 on the season ranking 1st.

Georgia's Andre Hastings hauls in a 42 yard reception vs Tennessee

                3:30 PM ET, October 5,

                Sanford Stadium, Athens, GA

In one of the biggest power house matchups of the season #1 ranked Georgia defeated #10 Tennessee 27-20 in a battle of SEC Rivals.

The Vols got off to shaky start on their opening possession as Peyton Manning was picked off by LB Kendrell Bell inside the redzone.

Two plays later Fran Tarkenton avoided a sack and hooked up on a 42 yard bomb down the middle to Andre Hastings which led to a Kevin Butler 28 yard FG giving Georgia a 3-0 lead.

Tennessee trailing 13-3 in the 2nd Qtr was on the move again following a Manning 61 strike to TE Jason Witten. But the drive stalled as the Vols elected to go for a 4th & 2 at the Georgia 9 yard line and came up empty.

Midway through the 3rd Qtr Manning threw his 2nd pick of the game which was returned for a 50 yard TD by Safety Jake Scott giving the Bulldogs a 20-10 lead.

Georgia extended their lead to 27-13 in the 3rd Qtr following a Tarkenton 48 yard TD to Lindsey Scott.

The Vols made a late comeback attempt closing the gap to 27-20 as Manning engineered a 11 play 65 yard drive hooking up with WR Stanley Morgan on 8 yard strike with 2:21 left in the game.

But the Bulldogs held on to preserve the win.

Manning finished up with 421 yards passing but Georgia shutdown the Vol's Running game limiting them to just 76 yards on the ground.

Oklahoma's Billy Sims scored on this 26 yard TD reception vs Texas

Date: Oct 12, • Site: Dallas, Texas • Stadium: Cotton Bowl • Attendance: 92500

Oklahoma won The Red River Rivalry 20-3 behind a dominating defensive effort while offensively Jack Mildren and Billy Sims formed a 2 headed monster in the Sooners Wish Bone Attack that put up 243 yards on the ground.

Sims who rushed for 135 yards scored the Sooners 1st TD on a 26 yard scoring toss from Mildren in the 1st QTR to give OU a 7-3 lead which was all the scoring they needed thanks to a stout defensive effort that held Texas to just 262 yards of total offense.

Mildren OU's dangerous Wish Bone QB completed 8/8 passes for a modest 84 yards.

But with the game out of reach late in the 4th QTR he killed the Longhorns spirits with a dazzling Option Keeper after Texas LB Tommy Nobis over pursued the play allowing Mildren to cut back up the field racing 69 yards untouched for a TD.

LSU's Dalton Hilliard out raced the Florida defense scoring winning TD

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Dalton Hilliard scored on a 16 yard touchdown run with 1:48 remaining, and 10th ranked LSU edged 13th ranked Florida 25-24 on Saturday night.

Hilliard's game-winner was set up by a clutch Bert Jones 39 yard completion to TE David LaFleur on a 3rd & 13.

On LSU's previous possession trailing 24-13 Jones helped the Tigers complete a 13 play 80 yard drive with completions of 16 yards to Eddie Kennison and 18 yards to Wendell Davis that later setup his own 2 yard TD run with 6:20 left in the game cutting the lead down to 24-19.

Florida looked to be in control of the game going into halftime leading 17-6 on the strength on their offense led by Steve Spurrier who passed for Td's of 21 & 3 yards.

Spurrier also had a surprising 77 yard run in the 1st half that setup an opening drive TD by Neal Anderson.

LSU improved to 6-1 on the season while Florida dropped to 3-2.

CB Darrent Williams shown here with this interception was a major part of Oklahoma St's dominating defensive effort in win over Texas A&M

STILLWATER, OK-Barry Sanders rushed for 188 yards & 1 TD and K Larry Roach connected on 4 of 6 field goals as 2nd ranked Oklahoma St remained undefeated on the year improving to 4-0 after knocking off 11th ranked Texas A&M 19-14 Saturday night.

Oklahoma St dominated for the first 3 QTR's behind a defense that held the Aggies to just 59 yards total offense in the 1st half and limited them to just 262 yards overall for the game.

Texas A&M QB Kevin Murray who started the game 0/7 didn't complete his 1st pass until the 7:42 mark of the 4th QTR on a 12 yard pass to John David Crow that later setup his 8 yard TD pass to WR Bethel Johnson.

The 12 play 72 yard drive helped the Aggies cut the deficit to 19-7 and later in the 4th QTR backup QB Bucky Richardson replaced the injured Murray and scored on a 46 yard TD run with 3:15 remaining but that was the closest the Aggies could get.

The Aggies defense was their lone bright spot in the defeat registering 5 sacks in the game.

Michael Irvin celebrates after scoring his 2nd TD of the game in win over UNC

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. --Michael Irvin knew Miami needed a big game from him after missing a week due to injury. He delivered with a performance that kept the 7th-ranked Hurricanes unbeaten.

The senior hauled in 2 TD's in his return, including a 16-yard touchdown grab with 2:06 seconds left before halftime that gave Miami a 28-3 lead en route to a victory over North Carolina on Thursday night.

Miami's defense led by Jerome Brown (3 sacks) continued it's dominant ways by registering a season high 8 sacks in the game and ended 24th-ranked North Carolina's (6-1, 3-1) unbeaten season.

BYU TE Gordon Hudson hauled in 10 receptions for 113 yards including a 30 yard 2nd QTR TD pass from Young.

Sebastian Janikowski kicks Florida St past Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. -- Sebastian Janikowski and Florida State didn't take long to hush Death Valley, making a statement that could be heard from Georgia to Oklahoma St.

The Seminoles' remarkable junior kicker connected on a 49 yard FG with 2:10 remaining and No. 3 Florida State squeezed by No. 15 Clemson 24-21 Saturday after noon. When the latest BCS standings of the season come out Sunday, Florida State should be right there with the top-ranked Bulldogs and second-ranked Cowboys, fighting for the top spots.

"Do we deserve to be in the top two? We deserve to be No. 1," Florida State linebacker Peter Boulware said.

The Atlantic Coast Conference's game of the week, quickly became a Seminoles' seminar on how to knock off a top-twenty opponent on its hostile home turf in front of 83,428.

"We don't play against noise. We're playing against the Clemson Tigers," Charlie Ward said. "It was amazing, when we were out on the field that first snap. It was loud and we started smiling because we don't play against noise."

Playing in one of the loudest stadiums in the country, Ward was unfazed, going 18 for 21 for Florida State (6-0, 5-0). His first throw was a 48-yard touchdown to Fred Biletnikoff, and he hooked up with TE Pat Carter for a 6-yard touchdown that made it 21-14 with 3:13 left in the third quarter.

Clemson made a much needed response, as Steve Fuller hitting Banks McFadden with a 13-yard touchdown pass to tie the game at 21 early in the fourth quarter.

It was Fuller's 2nd scoring toss on the day both to McFadden.

But it would go for naught as Janikowski FSU's strong legged kicker drilled home the go ahead 49 yarder to help Florida State stay perfect through six games.
