    Chapter One (2018): Week 8

Justice Carter uses all of his wingspan to stretch out for a Philip Rivers deep ball, before rolling into the endzone for his second touchdown of the afternoon. With four scores in two games, Carter is making a serious case for offensive rookie of the year.

Chargers hand high-flying Ravens first loss of season

AP - The Los Angeles Chargers' early season losing streak and injury problems now seem so long ago. Coming off their bye week as healthy as they have been since opening weekend, the defending champions put together easily their most impressive game of the season, knocking off the previously undefeated Ravens 27-13 in Baltimore.

Happy to have all his toys back, Philip Rivers looked poised and deadly against the Ravens' staunch defense. The return of the sure hands of Keenan Allen (8 catches, one touchdown) and the strong running of Eddie Lacy (84 scrimmage yards, 4.4 yards per carry) stabilized the Chargers' offense and allowed Rivers to control the tempo of the game. The veteran quarterback completed over 70% of his throws for nearly 250 yards and three scores.

Things did not go as well for his counterpart, Edward "Crazy Eyes" Fulton. In the midst of a breakout season, Fulton was injured on the game's first drive. Though he returned for the second half, Crazy Eyes did not look like himself as he struggled to throw the deep ball.

In his temporarily absence, backup Thad Lewis fared decently though made a crucial mistake allowing the Chargers to take a lead that they never gave back. Late in the first quarter, with the Ravens' defense having just forced a punt and nursing a 3-0 lead, Lewis tried to scramble but was stripped from behind by Chargers' linebacker Jerry Attaochu. The Chargers recovered and two plays later, Rivers found Allen in the corner of the endzone for a 7-3 lead.

With the offense struggling, the Ravens' defense did everything they could to keep the game close. They managed to do so, keeping the game a one-score game until the fourth quarter. But if you give a reigning MVP enough chances, you'll likely regret it.

    And the Ravens did.

With seven minutes remaining, cornerback Ethan Harrington bit on a play fake, allowing rookie Justice Carter to gain a step. Rivers dialed up a beautiful deep pass which Carter ran underneath, hauled in with his fingertips and rolled into the endzone.

With a two touchdown deficit and a struggling offense, the Ravens perfect season was toast.

The Chargers have now won four straight to move to 5-2 to stay ahead of the 5-3 Raiders, who won Thursday night. They head back to Los Angeles to host the struggling Patriots next week. The 6-1 Ravens, meanwhile, despite the loss still have a two-game edge in the AFC North over the idle Steelers. They host the division rival Browns next week, looking to maintain their dominance in the division.
