Re: The Legacy of Tyler Kozlov

I'm going to say the deadline for CAC and CAP's will be once I hit offseason, since it'll be significantly harder for me to do them after I get through the postseason. Presently have 1/6.

Edit: In regards to CAC, if there's a specific school you ultimately want to end up at, feel free to include it. Any schools you don't want to be at, include it. Any time during, you can let me know for example if you're ready to move on from your school and I'll have your coach be more proactive in the offseason.

        Week 9 Recap

Is it hard to believe that the season is reaching it's conclusion soon?

Week 9 is in the books, the ranks of the unbeaten continue to thin and the Tide keep marching.

Starting off the news of the week, Nebraska took it's beating on Saturday, a 23-20 affair that saw the (6-1)(3-0) Cornhuskers lose to a (2-5)(0-4) Iowa State squad that truely had no business being in this game from the get-go. The Huskers loss was predicated on it's hideous performance in the trenches. The Huskers managed just 116 yards on 44 carries, a terrible performance for a team that had spent it's season making it's name off of punishing the opposition with a brutal ground game mixed with a nice bit of short to mid range passing. It worked for most of the season, it just didn't click today. The Cyclones had 3 turnovers and the Huskers couldn't capitalize and they were outgained by over 100 yards by a team that went just 3-13 on third down. The Cyclones didn't win this game, the Huskers gave this one away, and that'll likely end their title aspirations. They fall to the middle of the polls, a week after they were projected to be a title contender.

The Florida Gators got into the polls this week for their performance against the previously unbeaten Bulldogs. The Florida squad contained Todd Gurley to just 85 yards on the ground and a single touchdown, and for the first time this season, the halfback's heisman credibility was questioned. When his team needed him, he was nowhere to be found and didn't take over. The Bulldogs get shut down in their 31-14 loss to the Gators.

Minnesota soars in the latest rankings by virtue of their 30-3 beating of the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in B1G play. The Golden Gophers are riding out a strong streak to start the season and are sitting where no one expected them to be, at number two in the polls. The Gophers have a tough road yet to be traveled, but if they can survive, it'll give Coach Kill's team a shot at the title.

The Colorado State Rams have started off fairly strong in their first season in the Big 12 with a 3-3 conference record and sitting on the edge of bowl birth with a 5-3 record, the Rams however in their fight for bowl eligibility fell short, they were destroyed by the Oklahoma State Cowboys who piled up 52 points to the Rams 17 and Colorado State who is fighting to remain bowl eligible despite it's move to a power conference, will have to try again next week.

If anything, this season has been a testament to chaos, the polls have shuffled on a weekly basis and it'll be exciting to see where the dust will settle next week.

Time off gives Zips chance to hit recruiting trail

The Akron Zips brass has stated that there isn't much left as most of their targets have been signed and they are now focusing on a few key recruits prior to the conclusion of the season. The Zips continue their strong press to improve their defense with their signings come the end of their two week vacation from football.

Rounding out the top of the list was Irvine Knaggs, Knaggs hailing from Texas joins the Zips as a defensive end prospect. Knaggs has decent speed and strength to combine into a decent all around prospect at the defensive end position. Expect a red shirt year out of him next year, he could grow to be one of the better players on the roster by his senior year however.

The Zips also tabbed a pair of Alabama corners to round out their three signings of this period. Starting out is Isidor McCleary. McClear is the #44 ranked cornerback in this years class and looks to be a good prospect down the road and instantly adds depth to the position. He's another red shirt corner that will only step in early as needed to account for other red shirts. Eamon Terranova has a small shot at playing his freshman season, he possesses an excellent burst and should be able to keep up with most opposing receivers. Terranova also boasts good size and is a strong acquisition for the Zips.

Akron Zips Season Up 'til now!

If you wanted to discuss a roller coaster season, look no further than the Akron Zips. Now the Zips didn't have much expectations outside of the city of Akron coming into the season with many projects listing them as the 10th best team in the MAC Conference, at best. They've proven that they are towards the top of the conference, at their best they could take home the MAC, at their worst? Well that early season projection doesn't appear to be too far off.

The Zips started out the season with a backfield of Kyle Pohl and Connor Hundley, both upperclassmen. They now sit with Chandler Kincade (RS-FR) and Tra Ingram (FR) as their men in the backfield and it's a stunning change. Their offense is up, while their defense has been struggling, an unexplained tug of war.

This Zips squad has managed to beat Marshall, Connecticut, Western and Eastern Michigan. Yet they've struggled, including a blowout loss to the Indiana Hoosiers and a rather embarrassing beating from the Toledo Rockets. This team has been anything but consistent.

"We're fielding a lot of new, young guys and to expect consistency out of the gate is ridculious. Of course it's frustrating to see the boat rock so violently from week to week, yet it's imperative for us to stay on course. We're looking to build a MAC power house here, and one season of growing pains may be a neccesary evil. We stand just two games from bowl eligibility and we still have a shot at the MAC Championship Game. We have to finish strong and continue to grow." Tyler Kozlov

The Zips will have an average at best schedule to conclude the season, undoubtedly with their toughest matchup against Bowling Green to conclude the season. If the Zips manage to run the table and Bowling Green drops one between than and now in conference play, that game will decide the MAC East. Something the Zips will definitely be hoping for, last year this team nearly stunned the Falcons and they'd love a shot this season to stun them.

Miami gives the Zips all they can handle, still fall short

When good teams face adversity, they find a way to rise above.

When the Akron Zips lost their top halfback, wide receiver and cornerback in this one, things looked bleak, yet with each moment that drug on the team dug in and endured.

Despite their starting quarterback Chandler Kincade responsible for 4 interceptions, the Akron Zips managed to knock off the home team in a game that will have the Redhawks faithful fiercely circling next years contest. This victory also marks the first victory by Akron against an instate foe, with the Bobcats looming next week, they'd love to move their mark to 2-2.

This one started looking much like previous games, the Akron Zips came out trying to force the ground and pound and it didn't work, Tra Ingram was stuffed for only four yards on two carries and the offense sputtered. Than much to the tradition of the Zips porous defense, the defense immediately surrendered a touchdown, allowing the Redhawks to garner some early momentum. Tom Tupa took a read option and went untouched for the touchdown.

The Zips than utilized their less than orthodox plays, triple options, jet sweeps and the ilk, and churned up yardage, especially so when Zach D'Orazio picked up 33 yards on a completion from a play action fake. Andrew Pratt took a jet sweep nearly into the endzone but would be clipped out of bounds just at the goal line, setting up a Connor Hundley goal line punch, the halfbacks first touchdown of the year, stepping in for the injured Tra Ingram.

The Zips didn't relent, after their defense picked up a stop and the teams traded possessions, the play action was on again and this time, Kincade connected with a wide open Zach D'Orazio on the fade, D'Orazio would outrun the defenders and go untouched into the end zone for a 77 yard touchdown completion. 14-7, the lead in favor of the Zips, it wouldn't last long.

Two back to back Tom Tupa touchdown passes would spell the end of the lead before the half, inside the two minute drill, the Red Hawks were able to get into the red zone and Tupa hooked up for his first touchdown. Just a few plays later, he was tossing another bullet into the end zone, after an interception set the Red Hawks up beautifully.

The half ended and once again, the Zips had a deficit to overcome.

They would rise, but it wouldn't seem like they would.

Opening the action in the third, Chandler Kincade drove his squad downfield quickly and hooked up with Andrew Pratt in the seam, his first touchdown of the game as he would be tossed into the end zone during the tackle, and the score would be knotted up, at least until the kick off.

Weaving through defenders, the Miami return unit fielded a beautiful kick and returned it 93 yards for the score and suddenly, the Red Hawks had the lead, they wouldn't be content, as the Zips attempted another play action and the route would be jumped, and the interception would be brought back to the six. One play later and Tom Tupa had his third touchdown pass of the evening and the Zips were suddenly in a 21-35 hole.

Damion Bain stepped up big, on a halfback screen he took a clean pass and followed his blockers and outran defenders for a 33 yard reception, setting up what would ultimately be a 4 yard touchdown run, a few plays later on a triple option and a pitch to him would result in an untouched score and it'd be 28-35.

The Zips answered quickly in the fourth, after forcing a punt, the team moved quickly downfield once again, utilizing Jeff Parker on a slant to pick up 22 and again in the flat for ten as the team gained yardage quickly. The Zips managed to get in the endzone when Jordan Matthews was on a post route, and the big tight end hauled it in for the easy score. The Zips were tied.

The Red Hawks would rattle off a big drive with the rally of their fans who wanted to see this game over in regulation, and it seemed it would be, as they churned out yardage, with a minute and a half they were inside field goal range, and inside the redzone at the minute twenty mark. The Zips defense stiffened and on third and goal, batted down Tom Tupa's pass attempt and saving them a time out.

The field goal was a clean shot and with fifty seconds to go, the Zips needed a miracle. They would get it.

Time seemed to have it's troubles, with just one time out the Zips needed first downs or out of bounds, but twice they would be stopped inside of the first down marker and it burned crucial time. With twelve seconds remaining, Chandler Kincade laced a beautiful pass to Jordan Matthews who would be downed at the four with just seconds remaining. The Zips wanted the win, they also had enough time for a quick pass and than a field goal.

The Zips wouldn't need the field goal, dropping back, Chandler Kincade found Andrew Pratt open on the break and rifled in a pass that would be locked up cleanly by the wideout, who immediately celebrated with his team. Pratt, an unheralded wide receiver was the star of this game, and he was a big reason why his team emerged on top.

Despite all of the adversity, the team managed to win. On this day, it's top player wasn't it's brightest star, it's quarterback who just broke a school yardage record, no it was the senior wide receiver who scored a pair of touchdowns that kept the Zips involved in this contest, despite having every reason to concede.

The Zips improve to 5-3 on the season and (3-2) in conference play, the Zips still need Bowling Green to drop one other game in MAC play this season prior to the season conclusion if they hope for a shot at Detroit.

                Week 10 Recap

Down tumbles the Tide in another week of action that sees a bevy of changes across the national land scape.

Starting out with the top news, the Crimson Tide are knocked from the top spot in the country following a 20-17 defeat to the now ranked LSU Tigers. The Tigers posted their best all around performance in knocking off the reigning national champions, their loss which much like last year keeps their hopes of a title bid still very much alive while furthers the SEC's grasp on the Top 25 as the Tigers benefit by dealing the Tide their first loss this season.

Not only did the Tide fall, so did the Ohio State Buckeyes who took an embarrassing loss to the previously winless in B1G play, Rutger Scarlet Knights. The first half started out well enough for the Buckeyes who jumped up to a 14-3 first half lead, but the second half belonged to the Scarlet Knights who would outscore the Buckeyes 24-3 through the first five minutes of the fourth quarter into the second half. That would prove to be insurmountable for the Buckeyes who give the Scarlet Knights their first B1G victory.

Another B1G squad falls yet again, this time Michigan State continues to fall, as the Wolverines came out to be the aggressor in this one. The Wolverines piled up 283 offensive yards in the first half and had a 17-7 lead that they would be able to coast out, the Spartans made a fierce rally into the final moments, but thye would take too long. Connor Cook tossed his second touchdown of the day inside of the final minute and the Wolverines piled onto the onside kick. The Spartans not going for two in the fourth when it could've made the game a one possession game will undoubtedly be questioned going into next week.

Drifting back to the SEC, the Ole Miss Rebels whom have fallen entirely off the face of the Earth saw a small piece of life after scoring 17 points in the final quarter to put up a big victory against a Texas A&M squad that has struggled to get over that hump of being "good" into elite.

The Wisconsin Badgers climb to #2 in the country by usurping the Minnesota Golden Gophers in a 31-21 victory, led by Melvin Gordon's 2 touchdowns and 148 yards the Badgers reclaimed their spot atop the B1G and will look to hold onto that. Their climb to number 2 keeps the B1G in good position for post season play.

In a bit of a stunner, the BYU Tigers shoot up the polls after escaping a 2-6 Idaho squad, needing a 17-3 rally to pull off the 7 point victory. Taysom Hill struggled early before coming on strong late for a pair of touchdown passes to earn player of the game honors.

Joey Duckworth was a key force behind the Bobcats attack

Ohio Bobcats cannot stem the tide, Zips roll

The Akron Zips once again proved to be victorious as they continue to establish themselves as one of the best programs in the state of Ohio, especially so this season. The Zips victory puts them in an interesting place as the season bends towards it's conclusion and they are right in the race for the MAC throne. A title that has only been once claimed by the Zips who are on pace for their best record in school history.

                    It wasn't easy though.

MACtion lived to it's title as both teams offenses came out firing on all cylinders and fought to make the opposition struggle at every possible opportunity and capitalized on each and every error the opposition defense made.

Joey Duckworth put up over 200 passing yards on the Zips while the Akron signal caller in Chandler Kincade added over 400 yards of his own as the quarterbacks sought to reign supreme over the opposition. While Duckworth's yards weren't a big catalyst, his ability to keep drives alive proved to be the difference in a rout and a high scoring contest.

Everyone expects the Zips to score, this is a team that has seen it's offense come to life over recent weeks and while the ground game hasn't come full circle, the revitalization of this offense behind Chandler Kincade has proven to be a true measure of a teams ability to rally behind their leader.

Jeff Parker and Andrew Pratt took over the scoring in this one, both wide receivers had a pair of touchdown receptions in this one. Jeff Parker had a strong first half with a pair of touchdown receptions that would tie the game up, albeit not for long as the Bobcats would knock in two field goals to spur the Bobcats ahead.

Andrew Pratt had his pair of touchdowns when the spotlight was intensified, the wideout who hasn't had much fanfare, pulled in the game tying touchdown score while also being accounted for, for the game winning touchdown pass in overtime.

Joey Duckworth had an early touchdown pass in the third quarter that jumped the Bobcats out by a pair of scores, something that wouldn't last long as the onslaught of the Zips caught on, leading to the Zips taking the lead behind a 28 yard pass from Chandler Kincade to Imani Davis, one that would be erased by a long drive ending with a touchdown rush for the Bobcats who needed one more stop to seal the game.

The stop would never come with Andrew Pratt stepping up big and just inside of a minute and a half later, the Zip pulled in his touchdown reception to make it a tie score, and on the opening possession of overtime, he pulled in a slant reception for the game winning score.

The Akron Zips push their record to 6-3 on the season and become bowl eligible in just Tyler Kozlov's second year, a huge improvement for a team that only has one prior bowl game to it's name and has yet to win a bowl game. The Zips have a tough road ahead, they have to win out their remaining games to make the MAC Championship, is it possible?

                            About to update.

I'm a little slow and when I played two games back to back I forgot to have one save state following the previously played game so there won't be a weekly recap for the previous week which means we jump right into the Buffalo game!

Fransohn Bickley's pair of touchdowns leads Zips past Bulls

Don't let the score confuse you, the 28-21 final wasn't representative of the game in the slightest. Defenses ruled the day in a game that the Zips should've won 21-7 or even 0 not accounting for the odd play that allowed Buffalo quarterback Joe Licata to escape for a 96 yard touchdown rush despite pressure and several broken tackles.

The Zips too a lead into the half by virtue of a pair of touchdown passes to Fransohn Bickley, Bickley who has been quiet all year as he drifted down the depth chart in light of bigger names was an unsung hero in this one, as two of his three receptions resulted in points being put on the board for the Zips. The Zips offense did struggle in this one, they themselves added by a flukey play in the final minute to get over the three hundred yard mark and to make Chandler Kincade's stats appear all the more impressive.

This was a definite come down to earth game for the offense which struggled early and often, held off the scoreboard in the first and third frame, the defense stepped up when the ZIps needed it. It would help as an interception toss by Chandler Kincade would've certainly led to a touchdown despite a touchdown saving tackle on the interception return, the Zips defense went to work and punished the opposing offense which saw their running back total just 43 yards and Joe Licata aside from his huge touchdown run was held for just 3 yards across his carries.

When it came down to it, the Zips got their plays and they needed them when it came to the final two minutes when both defenses decided it was time to stop playing football. In the first three and 3/4th quarters, there would be just 21 points scored. In the final two minutes, 28 points would be scored as both offenses would just shoot downfield and explode for points as the game seemed to open up and despite the Zips controlling the game throughout, the Bulls had their shot to tie the game and potentially steal this one.

That is what has been the bread and butter for this Bulls squad all year. Winning the games they weren't supposed to. They nearly did it again this week, yet the Zips proved to be just good enough to escape the ridiculousness of the final two minutes and mount their own onslaught of scoring in order to keep their lead just out of reach.

The final moments rung and in opposing territory, the Zips celebrated a guaranteed bowl birth with their 7th win on the season, and with Bowling Green dropping a conference duel, the interest in the season concluding matchup was mounting. The Zips were in control of their own destiny finally, if the Zips win out, they could make the MAC championship, just a year after a completely horrible season derailed any hope of post season excitement.

                                Week 12 Wrapup

Another week and we approach the end of the season as the national championship picture is definitely taking shape. There is a three team race at the top again as the the Brigham Young Cougars are running the table as of the present and in doing so have solidified themselves as a premier option in the NCAA. The Cougars led by Taysom Hill are a terrifying team, yet the Horned Frogs and Golden Gophers just keep on winning.

TCU remains untested as they remain undefeated, one of just two teams in the country aside from the previously mentioned BYU Cougars. The Horned Frogs find themselves in rare territory for themselves as they look to earn a national title and start filling their trophy case with national accolades in Fort Worth.

Minnesota managed to stay ahead of the surging Cougars thanks to a very impressive victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes. The Golden Gophers managed to outpace the Buckeyes in overtime action, the Gophers won in four overtimes as they look to be the class of the B1G. The solitary bright spot in a conference that has seemingly imploded in recent weeks as their teams fall down and from the polls.

The Oklahoma Sooners decided to look past their opponent this week in the Iowa State Cyclones and the Sooners paid the price for it, a strong showing from Cyclones quarterback, Sam Richardson piled up over 300 passing yards with four touchdowns and a rushing touchdown with no interceptions. The Cyclones will enjoy this victory in a season that they have took seven Big 12 contests to yield just a single victory.

Michigan absolutely routed the Penn State Lions in a game that was expected to be close but ultimately kept the Lions from the polls and will likely end any hopes of excitement for the career of Christian Hackenburg, the highly touted prospect left after a shoulder injury with only four passes thrown, one completion and one interception in another poor performance that will hurt his draft stock.

In a battle of the middle of the B1G, the Nebraska Cornhuskers took care of the Wisconsin Badgers that once appeared to be mighty and primed for another run at the B1G title game, the Huskers continue to roll and will look to add to their own accolades.
