GREEN BAY PACKERS: Aaron Rodgers to have surgery on Broken Thumb, will miss 5 Games.

    9/13/15

    John Franklin

The Green Bay Packers 2015 campaign under new Head Coach Joe Philbin is off to a rough start.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers broke his thumb on his throwing hand earlier today when Broncos Linebacker Von Miller collided with Rodgers arm during a sack.

"It's broken." Rodgers added. "They say I may be out for over a month but right now the time frame is 5 Games once I get some surgery."

After the Packers victory over the Denver Broncos earlier today, Head Coach Joe Philbin announced that Joe Callahan will get his first NFL start next week when Green Bay hosts their rivals, the Detroit Lions.

Colby Cameron will be Callahan's backup for the next 5 Games. Both Quarterbacks were on the bench last year and learned from Rodgers.

The Packers next 5 Games will be crucial as we see if Joe Philbin can teach Joe Callahan to be a NFL Quarterback in Rodgers absence.

And it looks to be a brutal stretch as they play the Lions, Vikings, Cardinals, Eagles, and Saints before Rodgers is set back Week 7 against the Oakland Raiders at Lambeau Field.

Callahan and Philbin will need to make magic happen if the Packers don't want to fall into a disastrous 1-5 start in Rodgers absence.

BENGALS no match for SEAHAWKS, blown out 52-10 in Seattle...

      RECAP

Seattle, WA- The Seattle Seahawks(1-0) are still the top Team in the NFC, if not the NFL.

      Today they showed why.

"We kind of felt like we had something to prove after how our season ended in the Super Bowl." Seahawks Head Coach Pete Carroll said.

Seattle(1-0) dominated Cincinnati(0-1) as the Legion of Boom and that Seahawks Defense took center stage once again.

"It's our identity. Defense. Offense. The whole Team clicking." Carroll added.

The Bengals(0-1) fell victim to Seattle from the opening kickoff.

"Just us doing our thing baby! NFC Champs!" Seahawks Safety Kam Chancellor stated.

Bengals Quarterback Andy Dalton was under duress as the Seahawks forced multiple constant 3 and Outs as Punter Kevin Huber punted 6 times.

Dalton had 326 yards, 1 Touchdown, 2 Interceptions.

The Seahawks took a 21-0 lead in the first after a fumble by Bengals RB Giovanni Bernard was returned by Kam Chancellor for 69 yards and a Touchdown.

"Great Defensive plays by our guys. Same thing they been doing the couple past years. We're excited for this season." Seahawks Defensive Coordinator Kris Richard said.

He was promoted by Head Coach Pete Carroll after Dan Quinn left for Atlanta.

Dalton's first pass of the game was intercepted by Seahawks CB Richard Sherman.

Bengals RBs Giovanni Bernard(10 carries for 17 yards, 0 TDs) and Benjarvis Green Ellis (8 carries for 20 yards, 0 TDs) were completely shut down.

"They made us struggle. We couldn't get anything going. Running or passing. Seattle is a very tough team." Bengals Head Coach Marvin Lewis said.

Seahawks QB Russell Wilson had 284 yards with a Touchdown. He also rushed for 2 Touchdowns on the ground as the Bengals couldn't keep Seattle's Offense off the field.

BEAST MODE rushed for 171 yards with 2 scores and dragged 3 Bengals at one point for 10 yards for a first.

"The things he does is just amazing. We couldn't stop him." Bengals Defensive Coordinator Paul Guenther stated.

The Legion of Boom held Dalton's targets in check as no Bengal WR had more than 78 yards (Santonio Holmes, caught Dalton's only TD)

      But the Bengals Defense struggled.

49ERS overcome turnovers after Kaepernick's benching in 4th Quarter, Beat SAINTS 31-17...

        RECAP

Santa Clara, CA- Jim Harbaugh was asked the question after the 49ers(1-0) 31-17 victory over the New Orleans Saints(0-1).

Was Colin Kaepernick the Quarterback moving forward?

"Yes absolutely. We all have bad games and Colin had one today. He's our Quarterback." 49ers Head Coach Jim Harbaugh stated.

Kaepernick struggled today as the 5th year signal caller had a Touchdown pass, a rushing Touchdown, and a Interception.

All in the first half as San Francisco(1-0) took a 14-10 lead into halftime.

Kaep finished the day with 166 yards, 1 Touchdown, and a pick while rushing for 57 yards and a score. However just like last season his problem was holding onto the football.

He fumbled twice and both times Drew Brees led the Saints(0-1) down and scored and even tied the game up at 17-17 in the 4th Quarter.

Jim Harbaugh then made a change in the 4th quarter. He benched Kaepernick and sent out 2nd year man Nate Montana. The oldest son of 49ers Legend Joe Montana.

And he didn't disappoint. 157 yards and 2 Touchdowns in the 4th that led the 9ers past the Saints for the 31-17 victory. His first Career Touchdowns.

"Needed a spark to get us going and Nate absolutely did that for us." Harbaugh added.

Saints Quarterback Drew Brees had 261 yards and a Touchdown but couldn't really get past the stingy 9er Defense.

"They're really a great Team from top to bottom. They've been among the best for awhile now." Brees added.

New Saints RB Joique Bell who spent last year on the Lions bench had 61 yards and a score but was stuffed quite a bit by Fangio's Defense.

Brees #1 Target Marques Colston was held to 82 yards and no Touchdowns.

"San Francisco is a great Team from top to bottom. Nothing much you can do when you face them. That's the reality of it. " Saints Head Coach Sean Payton added.

Brees was sacked 4 times but New Orleans finished with 305 yards of Offense to San Franciscos 492 and 561 Total.

49ers RB Frank Gore ran all over the Saints Defense for 160 yards.

Cutler's 6 Touchdowns leads BEARS over RAMS 43-22 on Sunday Night....

            RECAP

Chicago, IL- Reigning MVP Jay Cutler continued where he left off last January.

            Throwing Touchdowns and winning Games.

The Chicago Bears Quarterback was simply on point tonight inside Soldier Field with the lights on bright.

"I love playing in these kind of games. The lights on bright it's just like being a kid again." Cutler stated.

Da Bears(1-0) crushed Sam Bradford and the St. Louis Rams(0-1) on Sunday Night Football.

"They're really a good football Team. They dominated that Division last year and had a deep Playoff Run. We didn't play well at all and against a Team like the Bears you have to be on point. We weren't tonight." Rams Head Coach Jeff Fisher stated.

Rams Quarterback Sam Bradford struggled against the Bears Defense. Throwing 203 yards, 2 Touchdowns, and 3 Interceptions.

St. Louis(0-1) took a 16-14 lead into halftime before Chicago(1-0) kicked the gates open in the third Quarter with 21 straight points.

Reigning MVP Jay Cutler threw 328 yards and 6 Touchdowns as the Bears dominated with the lights on bright.

"When we play like that on all phases we're a really good Football Team." Bears Head Coach Marc Trestman stated.

Bears Defensive Coordinator Mel Tucker has made a monster unit as they picked off Bradford 3 times and each time Chicago put points up on the board.

Rams RB Zac Stacy had 96 yards while Bears RB Matt Forte had just 71 yards. Neither crossed the Goal Line.

Cutler found Brandon Marshall(47 yards, 3 Touchdowns) Alshon Jeffery(107 yards, 2 Touchdowns) and 2nd year Tight End Justin Kelly(12 yards, 1 TD) for his 6 Touchdowns.

Chicago(1-0) never turned the ball over once.

Sam Bradford found Jaxon Shipley and Tavon Austin for his 2 Touchdowns.

Manziel is Money with 5 Touchdowns, BROWNS over RAVENS 38-24...

              RECAP

Cleveland, OH- The Cleveland Browns(1-0) may have something special going on in "Believeland"

"That's our identity here in this City. The fans give us something special and we believe in it." Browns Head Coach Mike Pettine said.

Cleveland(1-0) had a "Cinderella Story" last year as Mike Pettine gave the Ohio City something to believe in as the Browns won their first ever AFC North Title. Cleveland also made it to the AFC Championship and came a Field Goal away from the Super Bowl.

But Tom Brady and the Patriots ended that dream.

But on Monday Night Football the Browns(1-0) continued their quest with a 38-24 victory over their AFC North Rivals, the Baltimore Ravens(0-1)

"Money" Johnny Manziel shined in his first start since last year as the 2nd year Quarterback threw 432 yards and 5 Touchdowns with no picks and a Rating of 130.1

"I love it here in Cleveland. I'm excited to be given the keys to the car and run this Offense. We're gonna be hard to beat when we play like that." Browns QB Johnny Manziel said.

The first half was a chess match between the AFC North Rivals.

Ravens Quarterback Joe Flacco found Dennis Pitta for a 7-0 Ravens lead.

Cleveland would answer back with a Field Goal sending the Browns down 7-3 to start the second quarter. It would be more of a chess match. Joe Flacco picked off by Browns CB Justin Gilbert in the endzone. A pattern that we would see more of in the second half. Flacco would throw 4 picks with 3 of them to Justin Gilbert.

"Doesn't happen very often. Just one of those Games for me personally." Gilbert stated.

After holding the Browns to a 3 and out, Baltimore(0-1) took over. But Flacco's first pass was intercepted by Browns Linebacker Karlos Dansby.

Manziel's 29 yard bomb to Josh Gordon in the endzone put the Browns up 10-7 to close out the first half.

"Up by 3 to end the first half wasn't good enough for us. We had to go in make some changes and we came out firing there in the second half." Browns Offensive Coordinator Kyle Shanahan said.

The Ravens were held to a 3 and out to start the second half. Manziel found Gordon for the second time to put Cleveland up 17-7.

But Baltimore would answer right back. A Bernard Pierce 27 yard run cut the deficit 17-14.

Pierce took over at RB after Ray Rice had a small MCL tear and will miss 3 weeks. Pierce finished the day with 97 yards and a score.

Baltimore tried to take advantage off a Zach Summers fumble but Flacco threw his 3rd pick of the day to Justin Gilbert who jumped in front of Torrey Smith in the endzone.

A Manziel Pass to Ramirez put the Browns up 24-14

"Cleveland was just that good today. They're really special lately. They took advantage of our mistakes. My mistakes." Ravens Quarterback Joe Flacco said.

Flacco would finish with 368 yards, 2 Touchdowns, 4 picks, and a Rating of 69.5.

Flacco was picked off for the 4th time today by Justin Gilbert. His 3rd of the day with 1:26 left on the clock allowing Cleveland to ice the game.

Browns RB Terrance West rushed for 71 yards. Manziel had 31 as Cleveland finished the day with 540 Total yards to Baltimore's 552.

"Division Games are rough. Cleveland is a tough team and the things they got going on is what you need in the NFL. We have to find ours for next week." Ravens Head Coach John Harbaugh added.

Both Defenses sacked the QB 3 times.

Manning, GIANTS back on track with 27-17 victory over REDSKINS...

                        RECAP

East Rutherford, NJ- After a 34-3 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Opening Sunday, the New York Giants(1-1) beat the Washington Redskins(1-1) 27-17 inside MetLife Stadium.

Eli Manning had 410 yards, 2 Touchdowns, and a pick as the G-Men got their first victory in the Todd Bowles era.

"Great Football and we executed very good tonight against a tough Division opponent." Giants new Head Coach Todd Bowles stated.

Washington(1-1) started Robert Griffin III after he missed last week with a broken thumb. He missed a pass, ran for 22 yards and fumbled 3 times losing one.

On his last fumble he bruised his ribs and left the game. Once again the Redskins turned to Kirk Cousins and he did his best to keep the Skins' in the game with 191 yards and 2 Touchdowns.

The Giants held a 20-3 halftime lead.

Cousins gave Washington life as the Redskins trailed 20-17 in the 4th with Cousins trying to mount a comeback.

But a Michael Cox long Touchdown run ended that.

Week 2 Sunday is here! The banged up Jets beat the Cowboys last week and suffered some casulties in the process. Today New York heads to Tennessee for some payback on Jake Locker and the Titans. Last year New York lost in Nashville in the regular season and again on Wildcard Weekend. Rex Ryan was given a new contract and he'll look to prove that he's still the man for the job for Gang Green. Titans will try to prove last year was no fluke as Ken Whisenhunt led Tennessee all the way to the AFC Divisional Round. Last week they won in Jacksonville 31-17.

TITANS spoil JETS comeback, win 26-21!

                            RECAP

Nashville, TN- Jets Head Coach Rex Ryan stood at the podium with his head low.

"It was rough. We were close but no cigar." The New York Jets Head Coach stated.

After losing in Nashville twice last season including a AFC Wildcard loss, the New York Jets(1-1) had this game circled on their calendars.

Another chance to defeat the Tennessee Titans(2-0).

But today the Jets failed once again to get a win in Nashville inside LP Field. A third straight loss.

"It's a bad feeling to lose but it's worse when you lose to the same Team multiple times in a row. This was a game we really wanted to win. Just wasn't in the cards. It's gonna be a very long rough flight home." Ryan continued.

"We're all hurting honestly. Losing three straight games to them is rough. We just have to pick ourselves up and work harder." Jets Assistant Head Coach Kathryn Smith stated.

She was promoted to first ever NFL Female Coach by Ryan in the Off-Season.

It was a chess match in the first quarter as the Jets and Titans struggled to move the ball.

Tennessee(2-0) took a 7-0 lead when Jake Locker found Derreck Taylor in the corner of the endzone.

A Bonani Field Goal and the Titans held a 10-7 lead heading into halftime.

The Titans received the second half kickoff and on the first play, Quarterback Jake Locker connected with WR Delanie Walker on a 76 yard bomb that put Tennessee up 17-7.

"Beautiful pass man from Jake." Walker stated.

Another Bonani Field Goal and the Titans held a 20-7 lead in the 4th quarter.

Locker threw his 3rd Touchdown of the day to Rookie Stecolian Frazier for his first NFL Touchdown.

Locker finished the day with 304 yards, 3 Touchdowns, a interception and a Passer Rating of 105.5

The New York Jets(1-1) attempted a comeback in the 4th with QB John David Booty finding WR Jeremy Kerley for all 3 Touchdowns.

Kerley had 9 catches for 156 yards and 3 TD's.

Booty had 292 yards, 3 Touchdowns with no picks and a Rating of 123.8.

                            ANOTHER INJURY

The New York Jets will add to their Injury Report when Running Back Chris Johnson dislocated his ankle. Johnson had just 9 carries for 41 yards before going down.

Titans Defensive Coordinator Ray Horton had his Defense well prepared for Jets Quarterback John David Booty. Sacking him 8 times with constant pressure.

Derek Morgan and Karl Klug had 2 sacks and Rookie Shawn Umana got his first Career sack.
