Re: The British Are Coming - A London Bulldogs Franchise

    2020 NFL POWER RANKINGS

    1. DALLAS COWBOYS
Predictably, the defending Super Bowl champions come in at #1 in the preseason power rankings. Led by the top-rated offense and 2nd rated defense, the Cowboys will look to break a three-way tie this season with the Steelers and Patriots by winning their 7th Super Bowl trophy. 2019 NFL offensive player of the year Ezekiel Elliot, cornerback Brandon Jones, Amari Cooper (WR), DeMarcus Lawrence (DE), 2019 NFL defensive player of the year Leighton Vander Esch (OLB), Super Bowl MVP Dak Prescott, and the best offensive line in the league...it's hard to find a hole on this absolutely stacked roster.

    2. CHICAGO BEARS
Despite a lackluster 9-7 record in 2019 that saw the team miss the playoffs, the Bears still have a lot going for them. They boast the NFL's best defense, led by superstars Khalil Mack (OLB), Edie Jackson (FS), and Kyle and Kendall Fuller (CB). But the offense led by 4th year pro Mitch Trubisky (QB) leaves a lot to be desired, and the team will also have to overcome the loss of their offensive focal point Tarik Cohen (HB), who will miss the first 5-7 weeks of the season with a ruptured disk.

    3. CAROLINA PANTHERS
Carolina finished as the #2 seed in the NFC last season after posting a 12-4 record, but could not overcome the Cowboys in the playoffs. Still, they are one of the most balanced teams in the league with plenty of superstars on both sides of the ball, including but not limited to Luke Kuechly (MLB), Christian McCaffery (HB), Greg Olsen (TE), Cam Newton (QB), and an outstanding offensive line. The Panthers also added Oklahoma standout CeeDee Lamb (WR) in the draft, giving Newton yet another weapon as they look to finish what they started last year.

    4. CLEVELAND BROWNS
The defending AFC champions were the toast of the league last year after posting a league-best 14-2 regular season record, but were undone in the Super Bowl by a last-second field goal. The team is young and stacked with talent that includes Myles Garrett (DE), Kareem Hunt (HB), Denzel Ward (CB), and Baker Mayfeild (QB). But they'll have to overcome the loss of Odell Beckham Jr., who will miss the first 6-8 weeks of the season with a dislocated ankle.

    5. SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS
After posting a disappointing 7-9 record in their final season in Indianapolis, the newly-named San Antonio Express were given a gift this offseason when Andrew Luck (QB) announced his intentions to return to the NFL after missing all of last year. They also added Alabama all-star Dylan Moses (MLB) in the draft to headline their defensive front. Expect the newest Texas NFL franchise to have a big year in their inaugural season.

-The Cleveland Browns have traded Nick Chubb (HB, 87 OVR) to the Philadelphia Eagles for a 2nd draft pick in 2021 and a 5th round draft pick in 2022.

-2019 AFC Defensive Rookie of the Year Christian Wilkins (DE, 79 OVR) will miss London's home opener. Wilkins is not expected to miss more than 1-2 weeks. Margus Hunt (DT, 73 OVR) will take his place in the starting lineup.

        WEEK ONE
        CINCINNATI BENGALS (0-0-0)
        VS
        LONDON BULLDOGS (0-0-0)

LONDON FALLS IN 2020 HOME OPENER
JUSTIN HERBERT WAS PICKED OFF THREE TIMES IN HIS FIRST NFL START

London's new NFL stadium was at max capacity for the Bulldogs' inaugural home opener, but the fans had little to cheer about as rookie QB Justin Herbert threw three interceptions in his first NFL action in a 31-13 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Herbert completed 63% of his passes for 248 yards and a touchdown, but showed his inexperience with the speed of the NFL by throwing three picks and finishing with a QB rating of 58.6. Kenyan Drake didn't fare much better on the ground, being held to 38 yards and a touchdown off 14 carries for an average of 2.7 yards per touch. Drake also logged two catches for 32 yards. One offensive bright spot was the play of rookie wide receiver Collin Johnson, who led the team with nine catches for 91 yards. Defensively, Reshad Jones (SS) and Xavien Howard (CB) each recorded an interception, Raekwon McMillan (MLB) led the team with nine tackles, and Margus Hunt (DT) had two sacks as he started in place of the injured Christian Wilkins at defense end.

Cincinnati got off to a 14-0 lead midway through the 2nd quarter and never looked back. Up 14-6 at halftime, the Bengals opened the 2nd half by outscoring the Bulldogs 17-0 en route to an easy victory. Andy Dalton completed 64% of his passes for 235 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions, and also had a two-yard rushing touchdown. Rodney Anderson led the charge on the ground with 23 carries for 77 yards and a touchdown, while Trayveon Williams had 21 yards and a score off nine carries. John Ross III was a popular target through the air, catching six balls for 81 yards, while tight end Tyler Eifert led the team with 7 catches for 58 yards. Tyler Boyd was the only man to score through the air, and finished with three catches for 58 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, Preston Brown (MLB) led a strong effort with eight tackles and 1.5 sacks, while Kyle Van Noy (OLB) recorded six tackles, one sack, and an interception. Cincinnati recorded four sacks and three interceptions in total.

The season won't get any easier for the Bulldogs (0-1) as they will hit the road to face off against the New England Patriots (1-0), who opened the season with a 28-25 road victory over the Las Vegas Raiders. Cincinnati (1-0) will return home to host the Baltimore Ravens (1-0), who scored a surprising 29-26 win over the defending champion Cowboys in week one.

-Christian Wilkins (DE) has been cleared to play and will return to the starting lineup in the Bulldogs' week two game against the New England Patriots (0-1).

-Denver's 4th overall pick Jerry Jeudy (WR) suffered a shoulder tear in the team's 27-24 opening win over the Golden Eagles and will miss at least a month. Jeudy had two catches for 24 yards and a touchdown before going down.

            WEEK TWO
            LONDON BULLDOGS (0-1-0)
            VS
            NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (1-0-0)

HERBERT OUTDUELS BRADY FOR FRANCHISE'S 1ST WIN
THE BULLDOGS ARE WINLESS NO MORE AS A FRANCHISE AFTER SHOCKING THE PATRIOTS 33-31

No one expected London's first win as a fledgling franchise to come on the road in Foxborough against the legendary Tom Brady and the Patriots, but the NFL is always full of surprises. Justin Herbert rebounded nicely after a rocky first start, throwing for 374 yards and two touchdowns as the Bulldogs held on late to give New England their first loss of the season in a 33-31 win.

The Patriots took an early 7-0 on their first offensive drive of the day, and then responded to a London touchdown with a breakaway 75 yard run by James White to take a 14-7 lead, but the Bulldogs controlled the 2nd quarter as Herbert threw his second TD pass of the day and Sanders added a 34 yard field goal to give the team a 17-14 lead at halftime. Sanders would add three more field goals in the 2nd half as each team struggled to punch the ball into the endzone, and the score sat at 26-17 with less than 12 minutes to play. The Patriots narrowed the gap to 2 points behind James White's second rushing touchdown of the day, but their defense couldn't stop London from responding with a methodical drive that chewed up nearly five minutes of clock and culminated with a 4-yard rushing TD by Kenyan Drake. Brady added a 48-yard pass to Julian Edelman to put his team in position late in the game, but the Patriots couldn't recover the subsequent onside kick, and the Bulldogs ran out the remainder of the clock.

Herbert was imppressive in his first road game, completing 68% of his passes for 374 yards and two touchdowns in hostile conditions, and finishing with a QB rating of 106.1. His favorite target was rookie wide receiver Collin Johnson, who had nine catches for 85 yards and a score. Mike Gesicki (TE) also had 9 grabs and 78 yards, and Albert Wilson had 77 yards and a touchdown on four catches. As for the ground game, Kenyan Drake rushed for 58 yards and a 4th quarter touchdown on 18 carries for an average of 3.2 yards per touch. But perhaps the biggest offensive contributor was kicker Jason Sanders, who hit all four of his attempted field goals, including a 52-yarder in the 4th quarter to give the team a nine-point lead. Defensively, Xavien Howard (CB) had two tackles and forced and recovered a fumble.

As for the Patriots, Tom Brady completed 70% of his 30 attempted passes for 285 yards and two touchdowns. His favorite target was Antonio Brown, who led the team with 7 catches for 99 yards, while Julian Edelman finished with 102 yards and a score on five catches. James White led a solid rushing attack, racking up 117 yards and two endzone trips off 21 carries for an average of 5.5 yards per carry, which included a 75-yard burst to the endzone in the 1st quarter. The defense was led by J.C. Jackson (CB), who had a team-leading 10 tackles, while Julian Okwara (OLB) had four tackles and 1.5 sacks in the loss. But it was the defense who was mostly to blame for the loss, as they couldn't stop the methodical pace of London's offense. The Bulldogs controlled the ball for over 37 minutes of play.

London will stay on the road next week for their first primetime game as they face off against Derek Carr and the Denver Broncos (1-1-0) on Thursday Night Football. Meanwhile, the Patriots will host the New York Jets (1-1-0) in what the team hopes will be a rebound game.

-The London Bulldogs have agreed to terms with wide receiver DeVante Parker on a three-year contract extension that will keep him with the team through 2023. The deal will pay Parker $24.5M over the next three years.

-Las Vegas Raiders' rookie QB Tua Tagovailoa took home AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors in the team's 37-31 win over the Chiefs. Tagovailoa completed 28 of his 41 passes for 402 yards and three touchdowns, and also added 18 rushing yards and another score on the ground.

LONDON SURVIVES WILD 4TH QUARTER FOR 2ND WIN
HERBERT LOOKS LIKE THE FUTURE OF THE TEAM AFTER THROWING LONDON TO ANOTHER WIN

London may have fallen flat in their home opener, but their road performances have been something else entirely. Herbert has thrown for over 750 yards and five touchdowns with just one interception in his two games on the road as the Bulldogs surprised yet another team with a 34-27 victory on Thursday Night Football.

With 10:22 remaining in the 2nd quarter, the Bulldogs took a 14-7 lead on Gus Edwards' 4 yard TD run and never lost it again, matching every score Denver put up on the board for the remainder of the game. The teams put on an offensive show in the 4th quarter, posting 28 points in just over 6 minutes of play. The game came down to the final minutes after Denver forced a defensive stop late in the game and had one last chance to tie it up, but the offense sputtered out in the closing seconds of the game.

Justin Herbert had another outstanding performance, completing 66% of his passes for 379 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. His favorite target was Albert Wilson, who had seven catches for 99 yards and two touchdowns in an elevated role after rookie sensation Collin Johnson went down early. Johnson had three catches for 32 yards before leaving the game with a mild concussion, and while he didn't return to the game, he is unlikely to miss any additional time. Robert Foster, who was claimed off Toronto's practice squad just before week one, made a splash with his first catch of the season as he went 84 yards to the house in the 4th quarter. Groundwise, Kenyan Drake led the charge with 68 yards on 22 carries, while Gus Edwards had a 4-yard TD run. As for the defense, Raekwon McMillan (MLB) led the team with nine tackles, and defensive ends Emmanuel Ogbah and Christian Wilkins split the only sack of the day for the Bulldogs.

On the other side of the ball, Derek Carr had a very average outing, completing just 57% of his 38 attempted passes for 301 yards and two touchdowns. With star rookie Jerry Jeudy (WR) sidelined due to injury, DaeSean Hamilton led the receiving corps with five catches for 54 yards and a score, while tight end Noah Fant added 59 yards off five grabs. Geronimo Allison only had three receptions, but made the most of them, tallying up 95 yards and a touchdown. Phillip Lindsay had a solid day on the ground, carrying the ball 23 times for 101 yards and a score for an average of 4.3 yards per carry. Defensively, Josey Jewell (MLB) led the team with nine tackles and an interception, and the Raiders front seven managed two sacks on the day.

The Bulldogs will return home to London next week to host the surprising New York Jets (2-1-0), who have scored victories over the Rams and the Patriots this season. As for the Broncos, they'll get a week of rest before hitting the road to play the Jets in week five.

DEFENSE STIFLES JETS IN FIRST HOME VICTORY
THE BULLDOGS EXTENDED THEIR WIN STREAK TO 3 WITH A 32-24 WIN OVER THE JETS

Christian Wilkins (DE) stuffed Le'Veon Bell in the endzone for a safety midway through the first quarter to put the first points on the board in a play that would set the tone for the remainder of the game. The Jets managed less than 300 yards of total offense, and the Bulldogs won their first home game in franchise history to extend their win streak to three games.

Justin Herbert threw two interceptions on the day, including one that was returned for a touchdown at the end of the first quarter, but he also completed 67% of his 50 attempted passes for 375 yards and three touchdowns. DeVante Parker led the receiving corps with eight catches for 112 yards, Collin Johnson also had eight grabs for 52 yards and a touchdown, and Albert Wilson racked up 78 yards and two scores off 7 catches. Drake continued to struggle on the ground, gaining just 56 yards off 18 carries, while Gus Edwards had four touches for 19 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, Raekwon McMillan (MLB) led the team with seven tackles and a sack, Emmanuel Ogbah (DE) had two sacks, Margus Hunt (DT) recorded a sack in limited play, and Christian Wilkins (DE) record the team's first defensive points of the season with a safety.

Sam Darnold was under fire all day, completing just 51% of his passes for 168 yards and a touchdown for a QB rating of 78.4. His go-to target was Christopher Herndon IV, who had five catches for 50 yards and a score. Le'Veon Bell only saw 11 carries on the day, but made the most of them with 106 yards and a touchdown, including a 75-yard scamper to the endzone in the 2nd quarter to give the Jets their first and only lead of the game. As for the defense, Avery Williamson and Marcus Maye each recorded an interception, and Maye returned his all the way to the endzone for a touchdown. Kamalei Correa had six tackles and 1.5 sacks as the Jets recorded four sacks on the day.

One of the most surprising stories in the NFL this year, the Bulldogs will hit the road once again next week for a tough matchup against Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks (3-1-0). As for the Jets, they'll play host to the Denver Broncos (1-2-0), who are well-rested following their early bye week.

-Raekwon McMillan (MLB) has agreed to a five-year contract extension that will keep him under contract with the Bulldogs until his 30th birthday. Originally a 2nd round pick for the team in 2017, he missed his rookie campaign with an ACL tear, but has impressed since then. McMillan has 233 career tackles and an interception in his three years with the team. This season, he leads the team with 27 tackles and also recorded his first career sack.

-Tennessee's Marcus Mariota suffered a partial ACL tear in the team's 28-14 week three win over the Steelers that is expected to keep him sidelined for at least eight weeks. With Mariota sidelined, the offense will turn to rookie QB and Big XII product Sam Ehlinger.

LONDON BULLDOGS 14, SEATTLE SEAHAWKS 42

London's offensive magic finally shorted out on the road in a crushing 42-14 defeat against the Seahawks. Herbert completed just 57% of his passes for 160 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception, while future Hall of Famer Russell Wilson completed 80% of his passes for 305 yards and four scores. The Bulldogs also lost runningback Kenyan Drake, who suffered a foot fracture and will miss the next two months. Rookie halfback Larry Rountree is expected to get his shot as the team's premiere ground threat in Drake's absence.

TORONTO HUSKIES 28, LONDON BULLDOGS 13
The Huskies extended their AFC East by improving to 5-1 on the season, while the Bulldogs dropped to 3-3. Josh Allen completed 75% of his passes for 254 yards and two touchdowns, Derrick Henry added 58 yards and a score off 16 carries on the ground, and T.J. Yeldon only had four touches, but gained 86 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, the Huskies recorded four sacks and stifled London's offense at every turn. Justin Herbert completed 72% of his passes, but only threw 18 balls on the day and threw for just 186 yards. Rookie runningback had 14 carries for 41 yards and the team's only touchdown in his first action as starter.

                          WEEK SEVEN
LONDON BULLDOGS 31, LOS ANGELES RAMS 34

Jared Goff was sidelined due to a quad tear, but the Rams still managed to eek out a win over the reeling Bulldogs. Backup QB Brett Hundley was good enough, completing 66% of his passes for 243 yards and a touchdown in the win, while Todd Gurley added 65 yards and a score off 13 carries on the ground. Meanwhile, Justin Herbert completed 18 of 26 passes for 219 yards and four touchdowns on his way to earning his 2nd AFC Offensive Player of the Week honor this year, but could not overcome the inadequacy of his defense. Rountree and Evans split carries in the backfield, combining for 100 yards off 24 carries. Defensively, Christian Wilkins (DE) recorded 1.5 sacks.

                          WEEK EIGHT
LONDON BULLDOGS 14, TORONTO HUSKIES 31
Facing the Toronto Huskies for the second time in three weeks, the Bulldogs were once again outmatched in a 31-14 loss. Justin Herbert had his worst outing as a pro, completing 59% of his passes for 247 yards, two touchdowns, and 4 interceptions in the loss. Meanwhile, Josh Allen completed 21 of 29 passes for 216 yards and two touchdowns, and the three-headed ground attack of Derrick Henry, Josh Allen, and T.J. Yeldon combined for 119 yards and two touchdowns by Henry off 31 carries. But it was the defense who won the day, recording two sacks and four interceptions. Toronto will limp into their bye week on a four-game losing streak before attempting to right the ship when they hit the road to face off against the New York Jets (5-2-0) in week 10. Coincidentally, New York is the last team the Bulldogs scored a win against, while the Jets have not lost a game since.

BELL'S BIG DAY LEADS JETS TO VICTORY
LONDON'S LOSING STREAK EXTENDED TO 5 GAMES IN A 38-28 LOSS TO THE JETS

Le'Veon Bell only carried the ball 14 times before leaving the game with a sore ankle that kept him sidelined for the remainder of the game, but his presence was definitely felt as the runningback rushed for 141 yards and a touchdown to kickstart a tremendous 2nd quarter for the Jets, which they rode to a 38-28 victory.

The Jets overcame an early 7-0 deficit by scoring 28 unanswered points in the 2nd and 3rd quarters to easily secure their 6th win and strengthen their hold on the top wild card playoff spot. Sam Darnold didn't put up mind-blowing numbers but was certainly efficient, completing 18 of 27 passes for 241 yards and four touchdowns. Quincy Enunwa led the receiving corps with six catches for 76 yards and two scores, while Jamison Crowder had four grabs for 59 yards and two touchdowns. But perhaps the biggest offensive contributor was Le'Veon Bell, who only carried the ball 14 times but put up 141 rushing yards, including a 75-yard rushing touchdown for New York's first endzone trip of the day. With playoff hopes alive and well in New York, Bell was pulled from the game at halftime after concerns over his sore ankle, but is unlikely to miss any additional time. Defensively, the Jets recorded three sacks and an interception on the day.

As for the Bulldogs, the offense leaned heavily on rookie QB Justin Herbert, who attempted a career-high 54 passes and completed 37 for 366 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. His favorite target was DeVante Parker who had 11 catches for 124 yards, while rookie WR Collin Johnson has 73 yards and a touchdown off eight catches. Albert Wilson also reached the endzone, and finished with five receptions for 44 yards. London's ground game was nearly non-existant as Rountree and Edwards combined for just 10 carries for 28 yards. Edwards did have two goal line rushing TDs. Defensively, middle linebackers Jerome Baker and Raekwon McMillan led the charge with a combined 16 tackles and one sack.

The Bulldogs will return home next week, where they have a solid chance of finally snapping their losing streak when they host the struggling Las Vegas Raiders (3-5-1), who have stumbled after a strong 2-1 start. But the most exciting aspect of the game will be the duel between the top two picks in last year's draft as Tua Tagovailoa (QB) and Justin Herbert (QB) square off. Meanwhile, the Jets will hit the road for a very winnable game against the Arizona Cardinals (2-7-0).

Re: The British Are Coming - A London Bulldogs Franchise

-The top two picks in the 2020 NFL draft will square off on Sunday when Tua Tagovailoa (3-5-1) and the Las Vegas Raiders head overseas to face Justin Herbert and the London Bulldogs (3-6-0). Tagovailoa has completed 70% of his 287 attempted passes for 2,596 yards, 22 touchdowns, and just six interceptions this season while Justin Herbert has completed 63% of his 332 attempted passes for 2,515 yards, 19 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.

-Philadelphia's offensive leaders Carson Wentz (QB) and Nick Chubb (HB) will miss the remainder of the season with a ruptured disk and hamstring tear, respectively. The Eagles are currently 2-7 but are sure to be a threat next season if they can stay healthy.
