I don't see you having any issues with your last 2 games, so now it will be interesting to see if the Buckeyes can win out or will we see Cal or someone else sneak up and grab a spot in the Natty with you.

Niagara looking like a juggernaut, it doesn't matter what players end up slotted out on the field, it's next man up and they just keep winning. Like Deuce said, I can't see a slip up for you, so hopefully the 12-0 record is enough to put you in the title game and Niagara will be well on its way to being the Evil Canadian Empire (that sounds like an Oxymoron).

PANTHERS HIT JACKPOT AGAINST REBELS IN VEGAS
Pitt plays a complete game, doubling up UNLV, 42-21
Report by LACES OUT DAN! | November 14th, 2020

Poor UNLV. They remain winless after dropping to 0-9 against the 23rd ranked Pitt Panthers. QB Jeremy Palmer put up another 4 TD passing performance and sophomore fullback Kenny Davis scored his first career touchdown to pace the Panthers. The only downside for the offense was the loss of starting halfback Ronnie Woods early in the 2nd half. Most Pitt fans should be happy the injury is not considered serious, as backup Sean Jenkins looked a bit shaky. While he did score a touchdown, he also lost two fumbles.

Next week the Panthers remain on the road to face perhaps their biggest challenge of the season. They travel to South Bend to face the 12th ranked Fighting Irish of Notre Dame.

Sean Johnson pulls down his 3rd TD catch of the season in the 2nd quarter.

Fullback Kenny Davis sheds a tackle on his way to his 1st career TD rush

Slot WR John Alexander has taken advantage of lesser DBs all year, leading the team with 9 TD catches.

Nunyer's Notes: Been away from home for the better part of a week, and didn't have a lot of time today, so this game was mostly simulated. I played a few possessions in the 2nd and the 4th. I guess you can tell it was a "mostly simmed" game based on the 15 total punts. FIFTEEN PUNTS?!? Holy crap.

Damn... I know some nice summer weather has arrived when over a week has passed since I've last touched any video games at all...

South Carolina is coming off back to back blowout losses and those sneaky AI algorithms have to be thinking bounce-back game... and I'm going to be rusty as hell with the sticks and playcalling... To paraphrase Han Solo... "I got a bad feeling about this..."

                Nunyer's Notes

It would be easy to blame the loss and the interceptions on being rusty but I can't... Only one of the interceptions was a bad read, of course it was the one to end the game in the 4th quarter. On the snap, the outside LB rushed, the inside LB dropped into what appeared to be a middle zone... so my read had TE Papadatos free on the out route... Well, that's not how it played out... inside LB broke off his zone and undercut the route. Game over. The other two interceptions were de facto punts on 3rd and long where I just heaved a four verts prayer downfield. The 2nd biggest turnover was the fumble returned for a touchdown.

Their defense started weak in the 1st quarter... but then turned it up... the pass rush was particularly brutal. The entire 2nd half was just ugly. I would imagine that this late in the season, that's probably the end of Niagara's national title hopes... but at least one of the title hopefuls will be a 1-loss team... so I guess there is still a slight glimmer of hope.

I'll also try to wrap my head back around the storyline and recruiting stuff for the next post. I've already landed 11 of my 12 scholarships and started pulling back recruiting points spent, so I'll probably make an update before the season finale... and then it's time to see if any graduating seniors are worthy of the nineteen eightysomething Topps baseball card treatment.

Glad to see this back, not so glad to see Niagara's title hopes go down the drain with a loss though. I immediately thought rust as soon as I saw the final score, but as you explained it seemed like they were on a mission to win - kind of like Georgia Tech did last year (two years ago?). Laughed at opponent kicker picture, of course he nails a 60-yarder - seems like in NCAA 14 either the other team's kicker is dreadful, or can hit it from 70 with ease.

Nice to see Apisa hit the 1,000-yard mark. Obviously he's no Kwame, but he has seemed to be pretty reliable for you this season.

Tough loss. Hate CPU kickers drilling 60 yarders...it’s Ridiculous lol. Like you said, though, I wouldn’t give up on a title yet. Still hope with a few games left.

A FURIOUS PITT COMEBACK FALLS JUST SHORT
Notre Dame holds on at home, winning 44-39 in a shootout
Report by LACES OUT DAN! | November 21th, 2020

On a blustery, snowy day in South Bend a match up between former smashmouth rivals became a surprisingly pass-heavy shootout. The Fighting Irish came out firing on all cylinders in front of their home fans, with QB Deon Clark dropping three touchdown passes in the 1st quarter while jumping out to a 20-0 lead. This edge would prove to be just enough to ensure the win.

The Panthers did their part in the 2nd half to make the game interesting, outscoring Notre Dame 29-10. Despite the losing effort, QB Jeremy Palmer continues to cement his place in Panthers lore. He extended his NCAA leading passing totals with a 476 yard passing game and also broke the Pitt single season record for passing yardage. On the season, Palmer has 3,788 yards with 33 TDs against only 10 interceptions.

In happier news, the Panthers did announce the signing of one of their top recruiting targets. Four star two-way athlete Amir Miller will be joining Pittsburgh next season. The 6'3 190 lbs dual threat out of Las Vegas will likely contribute as both a wide receiver and a defensive back. Their next big target, 6'5 quarterback Jesse Ramsey will be visiting next week. The New Jersey prospect has a big arm and solid all-around athleticism and has narrowed his choices down to Pitt and Buffalo. If signed, he would likely be the front runner to replace the graduating Palmer at QB for 2021.

                        Nunyer's Notes

It was my original intention to fully simulate this game to move this thing along.... as the summer has basically eliminated most of my PS3 time. Win or lose, Pitt already had a pretty successful season in the bag and being a road game, it didn't have terribly major implications for recruiting. So I clicked "simulate to next quarter" and walked away from the PS3 for a bit... only to come back and find a 20-0 hole. Now I figured I either had a challenging comeback to pull off or at least stop a completely embarrassing blowout.

I had some decent success passing the ball, although I was probably only completing ~60% of my passes due to a LOT of drops (9 in this game!). Despite the drops this week, it's been weird how despite the lower overall talent levels compared to Niagara, I just seem to have an easier time passing with Pitt. The Notre Dame offense still had some big plays and I couldn't completely slow them down despite pulling in a couple of red zone interceptions.

Dr. Schreibman was a placekicker for Niagara for three seasons starting in 1990. He was the Rhinos all time leading scorer for over almost 30 years and has been widely recognized across southern Ontario as a Niagara Rhino superfan. His views do not necessarily express those of Niagara University.

                            SENIOR DAY 2020!

Let's put that disappointing loss behind us and move right onto another exciting senior day! We've gathered our crack team of Rhinoplasty photoshop hacks to make our batch of yearly senior football cards. This year we decided to go way back to 1977, primarily because it was an easy template to recreate. With 16 graduating seniors, we can't afford to give them all the football card treatment but all of them will get a mention.

                            HB | 5'8 | 224 lbs | 87 OVR

                            CAREER STATS:
                            1097 RUSHING YARDS | 15 TDs
                            389 RECEIVING YARDS | 2 TDs

Originally recruited as a power back, after a redshirt year Apisa spent his first three seasons doing thankless work at fullback. After seeing only 26 total touches over those first three seasons, Brock won the starting halfback role in the spring and never looked back. He racked up over 1,000 yards and 13 TDs. Pointless Trivia: Brock Apisa was named after the character of Brock Samson from The Venture Bros. and a high school teacher.

                            WR | 6'1 | 219 lbs | 94 OVR

                            CAREER STATS:
                            166 RECEPTIONS | 2,430 YARDS | 24 TDs

As a four year starter, Fawaz had a productive career but could never quite live up to the expectations left by all-time Niagara great Lavette Gibbs. He was dealt no favors by the emergence of both Kandakai Charles and Kwame Babajide as the Rhinos became more run-focused. His best year was his 2018 sophomore season when he finished with career highs in receptions (49) and touchdowns (8). Pointless trivia: Fawad Fawaz was named after a single-episode character from the television show "Archer".

                            FS | 6'2 | 181 lbs | 86 OVR

                            CAREER STATS:
                            103 TACKLES | 1 SACK | 3 INTERCEPTIONS | 2 FORCED FUMBLES

A relatively unheralded recruit, it took Anselem three years before he earned regular playing time. Spending two years as the starting free safety he developed into a solid, if unspectacular defensive back. Never known for raw physical ability, James had a high football IQ and tended to be in the right place at the right time. Pointless trivia: I have no idea where I found the name "Anselem" ... I think there might a backup point guard on some college basketball team named Anselem... but I can't recall for sure.

                            DE | 6'2 | 304 lbs | 82 OVR

                            CAREER STATS:
                            50 TACKLES | 26 TFL | 14 SACKS | 1 FF

Similar to Anselem James, Blaine is a player that definitely had to wait his turn. He spent his first three seasons as a reserve defensive tackle. After the team failed to land any strong defensive line recruits, Rothenhauser was converted to defensive end for the 2019 and really began to shine. He finished with a career high 10 sacks in 2019 and has 4 sacks so far in 2020. Pointless trivia: Named after Andrew McCarthy's character from "Pretty in Pink".

                            DT | 6'3 | 315 lbs | 90 OVR

                            CAREER STATS:
                            55 TACKLES | 20 TFL | 11 SACKS | 2 PASS DEFLECTIONS

Perhaps a slightly disappointing career seeing he was getting regular playing time during all four seasons in Niagara. Still, Ramadan is a physical force who could very well see playing time on Sundays as a 3-4 nose tackle. Pointless trivia: Ali Ramadan is one of the most common names on the planet, so nothing terribly interesting about this rename.

                            BONUS FOOTBALL CARD!
(I had a cool screenshot of him)

                            RG | 6'3 | 297 lbs | 91 OVR

                            CAREER STATS:
                            56 PANCAKES | 18 SACKS ALLOWED

As a four year starter on the interior of the line, Hodgsen was a bulldozer in the ground game. Pointless trivia: He was named after Joel Hodgsen, the creator / host of Mystery Science Theater 3000.

THE GUYS WHO DON'T DESERVE CARDS:

                            COLLIN JENKINS | HB | 6'0 | 219 lbs | 89 OVR
CAREER STATS: 390 RUSHING YARDS | 2 TDs

The hope was that Jenkins would become the "tough yard" specialist, taking that mantle from Kandakai Charles. It never quite worked out that way. He only managed to reach 2nd string as a 5th year senior, although he finished with a decent 5.5 ypc average in limited touches this year.

                            SOCRATES WATKINS | WR | 6'0 | 185 lbs | 85 OVR
                            CAREER STATS: 49 RECEPTIONS | 805 YARDS | 4 TDs

Socrates racked up an ugly 13 drops as a true freshman against only 24 receptions. He landed himself a redshirt the following season and never quite got out of Coach Nonek's doghouse. However, he did improve his hands after that disastrous freshman year. In three more years of limited use, Watkins had only two drops against 25 catches.

                            FREDDIE SMITH | LT | 6'5 | 283 lbs | 93 OVR
CAREER STATS: 44 PANCAKES | 10 SACKS ALLOWED

Freddie could very well be playing in the NFL next year. Perhaps slightly undersized and not an elite athlete, where Freddie shines is in his versatility. He started at three different positions over four seasons and he has yet to surrender a sack at left tackle in 2020.

                            RONNIE FINKBEINER | P | 5'11 | 198 lbs | 94 OVR
                            CAREER STATS: 72 PUNTS | 43.9 YARD AVG | 7 INSIDE 20

Ronnie was a four year starter and winner of the 2019 Guy Award as the nation's best punter. Pointless trivia: Finkbeiner is the name of a real estate agent I worked with many years ago... and I always thought it was fun to say... FINK BEEEENER!
