Solid season for the Rhinos! You guys definitely exceeded expectations. Now it’s time to win the division! As for non conference games, my vote goes to a little tropical vacation for Coach Reinhold with a trip to the islands to play Hawaii.

It was still a great season, and things can only go up from here. I like the morph into a “spread em out to run” game. In fact, my Idaho coach Pat Fitzkennedy will be attending some Nonek coaching clinics to figure out how to get a run game going!
I would say that the Kibbie Dome is a fun place to play - when you’re winning. And I have no doubt the Rhinos can put on a show for the tens of Vandal fans in attendance! My Idaho Dynasty - https://forums.operationsports.com/f...4-dynasty.htmlComment

As far as getting a running game going, the only success I've had with this lower tier offensive line was to run between the tackles out of 4 WR sets and occasionally 3WR + 1TE sets. Seems like the tighter my formation, the more my lack of run blocking skill is exposed. I rarely can get the edge, most of my backs have been 84-90 in SPD, so probably 75% of my runs are up the gut. The advantage there is that most of the time, the only read I need to make is on the MLB and just cut the opposite way he is flowing and I'll usually have a 4 yard gain before contact. I added a couple of i-form sets this year and had some success following my lead blocker and hope to do more of that as my o-line skill improves... but it seems whenever the LBs stay inside the tackle box, one of them will get a quick shed and I'll have to deal with contact or evasive maneuvers right at the LOS.Comment

Re: Niagara Rhinos: An Alternate Universe NCAA 14 Dynasty
As far as non-conference games go, I like the idea of a rotating game @ a Big Ten School every year. Michigan, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Minnesota are all states you probably would be looking to establish some pipelines too at some point and Also like the idea of establishing a rivalry with schools like Syracuse and Rutgers.
Also assuming that at some point that you will be looking to get Niagara into a larger conference, it might be cool to see you schedule some games vs schools from CUSA (assuming this would be the next step). FIU and FAU would give you the opportunity to showcase your skills in front of some Florida recruits.
I also like the idea of a westcoast trip though too. Idaho would give you a a opponent that should be a easy win.
Maybe a trip to Texas too, and play someone like North Texas or Texas State.Comment

Not sure how I just noticed this, but unfortunate end to a great season for Niagara. Apparently not ready for a mid-tier Big Ten team, but it's only the second season so I'm extremely excited to see how the team progresses next season.Current Dynasties

Niagara's Ty Welsh to transfer
The freshman HB wanted to be closer to home
By: U.L. Washington
January 9th, 2015
In a move that some close to the program apparently saw coming, the school officially announced today that the freshman running back will be transferring to the University of South Alabama. There had been some rumors that Welsh never felt comfortable in the offense and that he wasn't a fan of Canadian winters. Welsh currently lives in central Florida, but lived in Alabama until he was 13 years old.
"I truly appreciate everything Coach Nonek and the recruiting staff have done for me, I enjoyed my time here in Niagara and my sister's kids have enjoyed only the finest quality baby formula these last six months... But I want to be closer to home." said Welsh in an early morning press conference. "South Alabama runs an offense very similar to what I ran in high school and I really feel like that approach will help me reach my full potential."
"We wish you all the best, Love Always, Coach Nonek." was the only statement made by Coach Nonek at the press conference. While this raises concerns over how the offense will look next year, Niagara does reportedly have at least two potential replacements still in the recruiting pipeline. No backs currently on the roster have been major contributors in the past, which is a concern for a team that had started to lean more heavily towards the ground game.
"There is talent on the team that we will expect to step up", said running backs coach Stevie Browning, "I have faith in Marlon, Clancy, Tim and Braylon. I'll go to war with what I have today and wouldn't look back". For the season, Welsh was second on the team with 995 yards rushing and eight touchdowns. He also added 30 receptions for 317 yards an additional three scores.
Welsh will be flying out of Toronto this afternoon and a press conference is scheduled for this evening in Mobile, AL.Comment

Nunyer's Notes
Spoiler
In the game logic, he transferred due to "lack of playing time", although he had like 200 touches and 1300 yards... I gave him legit promises that I felt I could keep (9 games, 200 carries, 30 catches) and he decided to leave. I reset and tried to see if there was anyway he would stay, and he would have if I promised 300 carries and 50 catches... but that price was too steep as I would have needed to build the entire offense around getting him ~30 touches a game... So I reset again and let him go. Guess I'll be going all out for the HB prospect left on my board.Comment

Subject: I will end Ty Welsh, just give the word!!!
Can you believe that ingrate?!? I was importing premium baby formula from France... the kind of stuff they make from goat embryos or some crap. You can't even buy it in this hemisphere! Man, just give me the go ahead and I will make this kid's lifetime credit score worse than the friggin Greek government! Anyways... As instructed, I focused all my final efforts on landing HB Cam Charles... and good news... we got our man. Unfortunately, we let everybody else on our board slip away. Missing out on Whitlock as the kicker of the future is my biggest regret here, as now we will be on the hook for a kicker and a punter this round of recruiting. Officially, we have only been ranked as the 70th best recruit class in the country. Hopefully we'll have a little bit of an easier road next year, as that bowl appearance did raise our profile and prestige a bit.
Curtis Whitlock / K / 3-star
5'11" / 211 lbs / Tucumcari, NM
Signed with Oklahoma State
Darron Campbell / C / 3-star
6'3" / 294 lbs / Toronto, CN
Signed with Miami of Ohio
Eric Hughes / LB / 3-star
6'2" / 220 lbs / Jenison, MI
Signed with Maryland
But screw those guys... as we did land a feature back:
Cameron Charles / HB / 4-star
6'0" / 200 lbs / Auburn, ALComment

Nunyer's Notes - Player Progression Changes
(If you aren't interested in the nuts and bolts of how I did player progression last season and the changes for this season, feel free to skip this post.)
So last season, I basically did a slightly modified version of the excellent randomized progression technique that Hellisan developed for his JD Clark thread. You can scroll back a few pages and read last season's stuff... but basically every player gets a "work ethic" rating randomly assigned. Dice rolls are then done against this work ethic to determine how much progression or regression takes place from the baseline training results generated during the off season. This worked out pretty well, and while I didn't hate the process and it was oddly enjoyable at times, it was a bit time consuming. So for this season I am going to simplify things a bit.
For those of you that might have played Dungeons and Dragons before, this year the work ethic rating will act sort of like a "saving throw". If the player makes his saving throw, they keep whatever progression the CPU assigned. If they miss the saving throw, then they will lose anywhere from 2 to 8 points of progression based on another roll.
As a quick example:
Conrad Palinski's work ethic is a 71. If he rolls a 71 or under out of 100, he makes his saving throw and keeps his progression. If he rolls a 72 or higher, then he stands to lose 2 to 8 points of OVR... which on average would result in a -3 to +2 OVR change from the training results.
Booms and Busts:
As an added wrinkle, if anybody rolls a 1 thru 5 they will be considered a "boom" player and will have an addtional 2 to 4 OVR added on top of the CPU training. If anybody rolls a 95-99, they will be considered a "bust" and will have and addtional 2 to 4 OVR removed from the 2 to 8 OVR they already lost.
This * should * make it quicker to go through the roster, as I'm guessing 2/3rds or so of the roster will make their saving throw and won't need additional modifications.Comment

When I first read this I thought, wow is this something he is doing himself or was this a real in game transfer request. That's crazy.. You guy's almost won the MAC title, he was a major player in the offense and you guys went to a bowl game....
Sucks to see him go for you, but I am Moon boots will find you a solid replacement. Don't be afraid to look at the Athletes. Seems like there is always a solid 2* JC guy who doesn't get any looks from the big schools, that might be able to fill in last minute.Comment

Re: Niagara Rhinos: An Alternate Universe NCAA 14 Dynasty
I pretty much expect one of the guys I redshirt to want a transfer each offseason, but I was shocked it was a guy that rushed for almost 1000 yards. In the grand scheme of things, it's not a big deal as I was able to sign a pretty good replacement in the offseason recruiting by throwing most of my points at him... But I actually liked playing with Welsh, one of those guys that can't break a tackle or even fall forward much, but he had good juke moves with the right stick. I was looking forward to trying to go for 2,000 yards from scrimmage with him. But oh well, I got a little greedy with that recruiting class and landed two 4-star guys... so I guess I can't complain that one left.Comment

Nunyer's Notes - Annual Recruit Renaming Extravaganza!
Well, not much of an extravaganza I suppose... maybe next year I'll get Carson Daly or something to host this... then it would be an extravaganza!
Anyways, time to get rid of dull CPU names that I find dull. Sometime later today, I'll have some updated roster progression stuff to post, then I'll get into a few hours of practice mode to see if I can find any interesting position battles or playbook wrinkles.
Latimer Iorg / TE / 4-star (78 OVR)
Renamed him in the thread once it seemed sure I would sign him, his original name was John Smith or something insanely boring
Dylan Hikade / OLB / 3-star (67 OVR)
Dull CPU name: Josh Lewis
Shameek Hill / DE / 3-star (69 OVR)
Dull CPU name: Derek Hill
Luwayne Craft / CB / 3-star (68 OVR)
Dull CPU name: Lamar Craft
(Lamar Craft wasn't too bad as far as CPU names, but I already had another recruit named Lamar and I have a strict "one Lamar" rule per recruiting season.)
Derrick Sanders / CB / 3-star (69 OVR)
I left this one alone, think I just forgot I recruited him to be honest.
Brodus Baxa / DE / 3-star (67 OVR)
I created two prospects and this was the one I signed. So he never had a dull CPU name.
Lee Petry / HB / 3-star (70 OVR)
Dull CPU name: Lee White
William Daye / T / 2-star (68 OVR)
Seeing I rarely mention offensive lineman anywhere, I typically don't rename them. They are the Dull Name Squad!
Jerome Bailey / G / 2-star (62 OVR)
see last entry
Lamar Wolfe / OLB / 2-star (64 OVR)
The other Lamar... and Lamar Wolfe is a worthy non-dull CPU name, so it stays.
Kandakai Charles / HB / 4-star
Dull CPU Name: Cameron CharlesComment

Re: Niagara Rhinos: An Alternate Universe NCAA 14 Dynasty
The wonderful world of roster progression... First up is the offense. Somehow I managed to roll the "bust" penalty for two of my highest work ethic guys (Bogan and Fante)... but did somewhat make up for it with some booms on the defensive side. Overall, the manual progression reduced average OVR gained from 5.1 per player to 3.8 per player.
Projected starters are in bold, although it might be a lttle hard to make out in that font. Player names in red are probable redshirts.
Key for the "modifier roll" column:
The green shaded cells represents a "boom" roll
The red shaded cells represents a "bust" roll
The "safe" tag shows that they had a successful roll, but not at "boom" level, and kept the full CPU progression
Any negative values in that cell represent the player failing the roll, but not at "bust" level, and how much CPU progression needed to be taken away.
Things worked out a little better on defense, where my bad luck with Bogan/Fante was reversed with three maximum level "boom" rolls. Two of these booms probably helped resolve position battles at MLB and CB2. so that's nice.
