Wow, that is strange! I would say you might have accidentally bumped up the CPU kicking power slider, but those are broken so I doubt that could be the case.

I’ve gotta say, to have stuck with the Run n Shoot this long is commendable! I’ve always wanted to run that offense in a dynasty, but I never have the patience because I start with a bad school with bad receivers. But when things click with the RnS, it’s super fun. I bet you’re having a blast right now!

The plays unique to Run and Shoot have some interesting route combinations, but there aren't a whole lot of them in the playbook. Overall, I just try to run it like I remember the Mouse Davis coordinated Detroit Lions from back in the day... lots of draws and runs out of shotgun and singleback 4-wide sets, putting receivers in motion whether or not the vanilla play was designed for it, that kind of stuff.

I'll have to check FG Power for CPU, when I moved to the new slider three games ago, it might have modified FG now that I think about it. So it might be at 75 instead of the default 50. I'll probably revert back some of the slider changes, primarily involving rushing. I was trying to might it a little tougher for both HUM and CPU, but it seems to be more inconsistent then before. Ohio went totally crazy on the ground, then NIU and WMU did nothing. I'm willing to ignore the WMU game, just because their QB and HB situations are pretty bleak... but NIU probably should have gouged me a bit more than they did. While I'm certainly going to try to keep this win streak alive, I want to really earn it... seeing that a potential bid for the MAC championship game is on the line.

How are you finding the tweaks to the slider set have done for you? I use the same set and am struggling to be competitive at all with Illinois.

I'll try to roughly remember my slider history so for this season... but everything before the Ohio game, I was running a slightly tweaked version of JKits sliders. The base JKits set in my opinion doesn't scale that well for lower OVR teams... but I really liked them when I was running a powerhouse with a 93 team OVR. So, I did some tweaks to them... made a post on the Jkits thread if you want to check it out.

From the Ohio game to today, I switched it up and used the set that was posted by Fairbanks Freeze. The problem I ran into with his set was that rushing, particularly run blocking, was a bit too overpowered. Tackling was set high, but at least in the 1st half of the game, I saw hardly any sheds on defense for either CPU or HUM... so I started tweaking those down a bit trying to find a better balance. I probably reduced run blocking a bit too much for the NIU game... and I'm just ignoring the WMU game as an outlier / crappy opponent.

For the next game, I'm going to run some modifications to the Fairbanks Freeze sliders that he made based on some feedback I left in the thread. If you are running the Jkits sliders, I'd suggest pulling back on CPU run blocking and CPU RB ability a bit if you are seeing tons of broken tackles against you... but while I love that set for 90+ OVR teams, it can be really harsh if you don't have that kind of talent... so I was regularly tweaking things earlier this season.

Re: Niagara Rhinos: An Alternate Universe NCAA 14 Dynasty

With the holiday weekend coming up, I have a pretty busy schedule of family stuff on my plate. Not sure how much PS3 time I'll get over the next 3-4 days. So I've already played one game tonight and I'll probably play 1-2 more. I'll capture screenshots as I normally do, but depending on time, might not post the regular full graphic-heavy game stories. Doing all the graphics stuff is a big part of this hobby from my perspective, but sometimes that bumps up against wanting to get the games played and not enough time to do both. As much as I want to stay consistent with the presentation aspects, it might not always happen... as I'm a relatively lazy middle aged man with a wife and kids who spends way too much time thinking about stupid crap a fictional moonboot wearing weirdo can do next in the context of a six year old video game. So a few games might just be a quick recap and boxscore... for sure tonight I'll throw together the updated MAC standings and a recruitng update... but the rest of the weekend might be slow or half-arsed.

Also, I am going to disable fatigue for a game or two and see if that helps the issue I've been having this year of CPU teams fading badly in the 2nd half. It wasn't a problem that I had in year 1, but it is something I've seen in other dynasties I've played over the years. There are some folks who swear that fatigue enabled is only a detriment to the CPU, so I'm going to give it a try... as I feel the challenge level is good to start games, perfect in a few cases, but then it all falls apart in the 2nd half. At some point, raising sliders only raises frustration... so I am hoping no fatigue helps. It won't make much of a difference for my team on offense, as I have extensive formation subs to get everybody involved. The only sort of unfair benefit I have seen in the past is when the CPU is mounting a long, drawn out drive... as normally that leads to backup defenders all over the field instead of full stamina starters... so it will be a give and take, but I hope the positives outweigh the negatives.

Subject: I know it's been slow... but... some good news

The good news? I'm going big into this new cryptocurrency thing... my office is about 86 degrees Fahrenheit, which is like negative 6 Celsius or whatever these Canadians use... but that's because I have 256 video cards churning full blast all day to earn Mario Bros coins or some sh!t, I don't really get it quite yet to be honest... but I figure it's a good way to bypass NCAA regulations. The young kids are down with this stuff, bitcoin is an under-the-table goldmine! These extremely clandestine and borderline illegal activities likely won't bear fruit until next year, but Niagara will be on the cutting edge of corruption!

As far as this year, we have added an additional four commitments this week thanks to your evisceration of Western Michigan:

                  Josh Lewis / OLB / 3-star (67 OVR)
                  6'3" / 252 lbs / Jackson, MI

                  Latimer Iorg / TE / 3-star (78 OVR)
                  6'4" / 247 lbs / Port Falls, ID

                  Derek Hill / DE / 3-star (69 OVR)
                  6'4" / 243 lbs / Clawson, MI

                  Jerome Bailey / OG / 2-star (62 OVR)
                  6'5" / 285 lbs / Elk Plain, WA

I have mentioned all these guys before in previous updates, except for Jerome Bailey. He's a weirdo from the west coast that was infatuated with the Niagara program. He rated Niagara as a grade "B" for close to home, because you know, Canada is just a little north of Washington. Needless to say, he's not going to be an Academic All-American. He has size and strength, but is a project and likely will never be a starter.

                  Recruits 2: The New Batch
Damn, I loved the Gremlins movies when I was a kid, bright light! bright light! Anyways these are some guys that I didn't mention before, but we should sign easily...

                  Lamar Wolfe / OLB / 2-star
                  6'2" / 211 lbs / Toccoa, GA

Lamar was brought to our attention by Freddie Benson, as Lamar is his nephew. A likely redshirt project, Lamar is a good all around high school linebacker but probably needs some seasoning for the FBS level.

                  Lamar Craft / CB / 3-star
                  6'0" / 176 lbs / Sans Souci, SC

Another guy that was desperate to play for the Rhinos, he's not the fastest or the quickest, but has pretty good coverage instincts. A decent hitter for his size, Lamar could be in the mix for one of the safety spots that will be available via graduations

                  Curtis Whitlock / K / 3-star
                  5'11" / 211 lbs / Tucumcari, NM

This kid has NFL dreams, but not quite NFL talent. He wants big conference TV exposure, but isn't getting much attention from his preferred schools. We are his only legit shot at playing time at this point. While our current kicker has a year of eligibility left, he will earn his Bachelor's Degree in the spring and might not return.

(As always, recruits with dull arse CPU names like "Josh Lewis" will likely be renamed)

Well thanks! Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours! As far as my expectations, I think 2-2 the rest of the way would make me happy. The worst case would be 1-3, as Eastern Michigan is awful and if I lost to them and went 0-4, I would quit the internet in shame.

Most of his high OVR comes from his blocking, although he has decent hands as well. I'm not in front of the PS3 at the moment, I think all three of this blocking ratings were high 60s to low 70s. I originally had no plans to recruit a TE, I would have been fine with a walk-on filling the TE3 spot for my graduating senior... seeing that I rarely even use two. But this was one of the non-pipeline guys that had Niagara in his top 5, so figured why not?

Of course, I think I have two whole formations that use dual TE and one of those is goal line which I call maybe 2-3 times a season... But just to keep things interesting, I might switch around the playbook a little more next year... The base Run and Shoot playbook has an absolute ton of different shotgun sets and a lot of somewhat redundant plays, so I might drop a couple and pick up some 2TE heavy singleback or i-form sets.

So I am pretty confident that one of the game's programmers must of grew up in the Aatri era because I just noticed one of my recruits is Aatri Starr.. It is fun to see some non-generic names sometimes so I love that you take it to a all new level with some of yours.

I am curious though I have never heard of Port Falls Idaho having lived in both Southern and Northern Idaho growing up but their is a Post Falls Idaho.

Yea, I was surprised when I saw that Atari first name. The game does have some decent CPU generated stuff, but ever since I was a kid I've always invented names and fictional leagues and whatever else. Going back to the C64 days playing stuff like Star League Baseball, 4th and Inches, Superstar Soccer... some of my friends and I would wind up with spiral notebooks filled with game stats and such... so I've been dorking out with crap like this for over 30 years. (damn, I'm old). While I changed the first names, a good amount of the last names on this team were childhood friends that I played sports games with... Bogan, Fante, Palinski, Nunnelly, Anderson, Wojtowicz and Welsh were all friends that played various parts of my fictional sports league universes back in the day.

Embarrassing story time now that I'm feeling nostalgic... As there is one tradition that I did break away from for this dynasty. Way back in '87 or so I started playing Superstar Soccer on the C64. It was not a terribly great game on the field, limited AI that was easy to cheese, but it was probably 5-10 years ahead of it's time with the off the field stuff. You could recruit players, rename them, allocate training resources, etc. It had some neat little mgmt sim features.

Anyways, around this time was when we had "the special class" in school, teaching us all the horrors that puberty was going to dump on us. Part of the class was a fairly graphic depiction of various forms of venereal disease. Being dumb 12 year old boys, Palinski and I immediately went to his house and renamed all our Superstar Soccer players after the various forms of VD. So we had Herpes, Crabs, Gonorrhea, Syphilis, Chlamydia and Mr Aids. (Don't ask us why Aids became "Mr Aids", 12 year old boy humor is a tough nut to crack sometimes). Basically ever since then, in every dynasty / franchise that I've ever played, the five horsemen of the VD apocolypse get added to my roster, usually the deep bench guys for basketball games, 4th liners in hockey and in football... offensive lineman. So in my other Rhinos dynasty that I was playing before a reset to start this thread, I'd have Clyde Chlamydia as my LT, Sammy Syphilis as my LG, etc down the line... except for RT... RT is always Mr Aids. If you are a 98 pound female sheep herder living in the hills of Laos and your name is "Mr Aids", I'm recruiting you to play RT. As they would graduate, the next starter in line became their "brother" Carlos Chlamydia, Sydney Syphilis, etc... again except for Mr Aids, who always is Mr Aids. Really don't know why I'm sharing this... except that my inner 12 year old is likely laughing his *** off... While immature lowbrow humor is generally underrated and totally my bag, I didn't want to share roster spreadsheets on this thread that listed "starting center: Geronimo Gonorrhea" as that might be a step too far.

Wow. It's like we are long lost brothers. I lived in my C64. 4th an Inches was the bomb.

Mack Truck at FB was a beast. Also Riley Quick at WB on the Champs team.

Man I loved that game. Fast Break, Jordan vs Bird, the Streetsports series, the Summer/Winter/California Games and of course my other all time favorite Hardball.

Like you I had spiral notebooks full of stats.

Those were the days. I played mine pretty much all through High school. A couple buddies had a Nintendo but my first game system was a Sega Genesis I bought when I went to college
