Re: Not Just A Basketball School

    2013, games 5-8

    @ Syracuse (3-1, 0-1) L 33-37

So I didn't figure out what I wanted to do graphics-wise (still haven't perfected it, could change again) until I did the Va Tech game, which is why the Syracuse one is different from the rest.

Great diving grab for the 4th and long conversion.

    @ Virginia Tech (4-1, 2-0) L 19-21

    @ Miami (3-2, 0-2) L 17-10

    vs NC State (5-2, 3-2) - W 43-21

    Tapley obliterated the corner here

    Bryn Renner throws a pass

Next 4 games for the Tar Heels:

    vs Virginia (3-6, 1-5)

    vs Pitt (3-5, 3-3)

    vs#12 Florida State (6-2, 4-2)

    @ Duke (5-3, 2-3)

I'll be doing a look around the nation and a recruiting update in the next couple days. I bet the house recruiting-wise on this NC State game, I think I had 11 visits. 9 committed after the game, we have some talent coming in!

Was starting to question your decision to stick with Renner as I was watching those Loss's pile up but then he breaks out and has a good game vs NC State, which is always nice to grab those instate wins for the recruits.

FSU will be tough to beat but hopefully you can manage to grab 3 out of 4 and at least finish on a good note.

Yeah NC State was make or break. Had we lost Renner was done. If we lose another one I'll likely just play Coker to get him some reps. Coker actually came in on the last drive of that game and threw a score to another freshman in Ryan Switzer. Bowl game is out the window, sadly, barring a massive upset of FSU and 99 overall Jameis Winston. We deserve to be a couple wins better off but it's been rough this season.

Thanks for checking in my guy

Around The Nation, Week 11, 2013

I'll be doing these after each block of games from now on, also I think I'll do 3 game blocks and not 4, starting next season

Love seeing Boise State (8-1) and Top-25. Who did they lose to?

Man, tough stretch of games. I guess the positive to take from things is that your offense has been fairly productive in most games and you're always right there within a score, but a couple of devastating losses, none bigger than that Syracuse game. I think if you win that one, then you're probably going bowling this season. Tough to give up that huge conversion, I hate that sometimes it feels like the CPU can just convert those at will oftentimes no matter what you do.

I see NIU trying to be a BCS buster in the Top 5, are you doing the standard BCS championship game since 2013 was the last year of the BCS? Or will you be working in the college football playoff at some point?

Yeah really tough stretch. We were really productive except for Va Tech and Miami. Bryn Renner has actually only thrown 1 pick all season although that completion percentage is pretty bad, sitting around 54 I think. It's funny, I looked him up irl and he had a great junior year, getting talked up as a potential day 1 pick, then senior year injures his shoulder (was pec in this dynasty) and never really fully rebounds from it, doesn't catch on in the league.

Man that conversion against Syracuse pissed me off. Diving grab which you'll only see the CPU pull off a couple times a season, and the fact that that game the defense actually had made a couple stops setting us up to take the lead but we just couldn't do it.

NIU I'm assuming is running triple option since their FB is doing so well. And they're in the MAC, and they have Jordan Lynch who's really good in the roster I'm using. Definitely will be interesting to see how well they end up doing and if they can make a BCS bowl.

I won't be doing the playoff because for whatever reason, the editor has never worked for me. It just won't even load my save files. I might try one more time, but I've been trying this periodically for years and it just doesn't work for whatever reason. I have a good laptop too, I don't get it.

                Thanks for the comments guys!

Hey, just wanted to check in and say I’m following! Looks like you’ve had a tough start to year one, especially with injuries at the QB position early on. I know a bowl game is off the the table, but 3 of the last 4 look winnable, so hopefully the Tar Heels can end this season on a high note and with some momentum!

Appreciate it man! Glad you like the format, best I can do to report but also get through games fast. I tend to play this game in spurts, so I'll get through 5 seasons in a couple months then not touch it for a while. I'm not consistent, and it's why my previous reports fizzled out.

Just wait till you see my recruits man! I am very excited for season 2, let's put it that way. Few day 1 starters.

North Carolina Tar Heels Recruiting Update

We got NINE guys to commit to us last week, bringing our total up to 10 commits. I can't do headshots anymore like I did in my earlier reports, sadly, as Teambuilder has been taken down. Gonna work on something better for next season's updates, which will come earlier.

Our top priority all year was Tyler McBride, the #4 OLB in the nation. He stands at 6'3, and weighs in at 229 lbs. He runs a solid 4.54 40, but the main thing with him was his coverage ability. He can play man and zone, and he's decent against the run. Expect him to start in 2014.

                          84 spd, 77 str, 91 acc, 78 tak, 85 pur, 82 prc, 75 bsh, 83 man, 86 zone

John Fraser (#94 ATH) will challenge for the starting QB spot next season. He's built more like a fullback at 6'2, 239, and runs like one when he takes off. He has a very strong arm and decent accuracy to boot.

                          81 spd, 76 agi, 83 acc, 78 trk, 75 btk, 80 stf, 78 car, 89 thp, 81 tha

Kobi Smith (#3 FS) is an athletic FS who has a lot of potential, but needs work in order to be a starter. He's a good tackler, but doesn't get off blocks well and isn't great in coverage. But at 6'1, 204, and running a 4.4 flat, he's got a lot of potential.

                          91 spd, 90 agi, 91 acc, 77 tak, 74 pur, 62 prc, 72 zcv, 65 bsh

Chris Gates (#11 G), and Travis Douglas (#28 G) are both athletic, powerful guards who should be able to contribute early on.

                          Gates: 82 str, 73 agi, 86 acc, 76 pbk, 82 rbk, 80 imp

                          Douglas: 85 str, 71 agi, 84 acc, 79 pbk, 79 rbk, 74 imp

                          Other commits:

Note: some of these guys aren't fully scouted so overalls could change

                          Curtis Frederick, 4* TE (#7) - 73 OVR

                          Jeff Cross, 3* CB (#13) - 71 OVR

                          Matt Burke, 3* WR (#53) - 64 OVR

                          Devante Ryan, 3* CB (#23) - 74 OVR

                          Anthony Johnson, 3* DT (#48) - 71 OVR

                          Alonzo Foster, 3* TE (#31) - 74 OVR

                          John Carter, 3* FS (#38) - 66 OVR

Although he’s not super highly rated, I like those attributes on Fraser. He’s big and looks like a very powerful runner, maybe like a poor mans Cam Newton. Excited to see what he can do.

Great work on the recruiting trail, man, some really nice pickups there. A couple potential solid contributors in the unscouted players, plus then the big three are all really solid. Kobi looks raw and definitely needs some work on those coverage abilities, so hopefully he can get some good rolls in your progression system. McBride and Fraser though, wow. McBride is a man child, that speed with accel, the pursuit, plus the coverage ratings should make him a monster; what was his scouted overall? And Fraser like JH said looks really solid, his size should make him decent to run with if you need to, coupled with a CANNON of an arm which you don't see on too many recruits. Great find there as well. With his low ATH rank he's probably one of those guys that the CPU projected him as like a FB or something stupid so he has a low rating but when you move him to QB it shoots up to like 79 or something, haha.

Me too man. His awareness will probably be quite low, so I'll limit hot routes and audibles, but he should be great for a spread option, run based attack, which is what I want to do next season because our line really isn't good enough to be pass heavy.

Really really good recruiting, especially since we've been so poor this year. Hopefully I can get some favourable rolls in the preseason for a few of them and have some new starters. I'm 10 games in now, about to play FSU and my God has our offense been inconsistent. Some of the most boring stretches I've had on NCAA, CPU offenses have been bad too.

Fraser really surprised me too. I saw B THP, B THA on him and I thought he'd be maybe 83/80, but I got lucky on the 50% scouting and got to see both of those attributes. 89 THP is great and will allow us to hopefully have a big play threat, which we've lacked a bit this year. Line has to improve though, of course.

I'm so excited to get my hands on McBride though. Day 1 starter, I think.

                                Thanks for the comments guys!
