      2013, games 9-12

      vs Virginia (3-6, 1-5) - W 24-10

This was an awful game. Bryn Renner started missing throws in the 2nd half after playing well in the first, and finished with 3 picks. Virginia couldn't get much going, Kevin Parks ran the ball OK but Greyson Lambert never got into rhythm throwing the football.

Renner was often pressured, but he was fine dealing with it in the first half

      vs Pitt (3-6, 3-3) - W 24-21

Another game where the opposition was very conservative in their playcalls. Pitt didn't go deep very much, and even though Tom Savage had a great game on the stat sheet, it never felt like he was very dangerous. James Conner ran well all day, but Pitt tried to rely on him to pick up too many 3rd downs, and it cost them in the end.

      vs #10 FSU (8-2, 6-2) - W 44-41

What a game this was on Senior Day. Bryn Renner came out firing (for once), and never let up, ending up with 363 passing yards, 3 scores and no picks. A.J. Blue and T.J. Logan chipped in 108 yards and 2 scores, and 67 yards and a score, respectively. Once again, it was T.J. Thorpe and Eric Ebron catching the majority of Renner's passes, with Ebron breaking Hakeem Nicks' single-season catch record on a 25 yard TD grab. Thorpe came up with a clutch grab for the 3rd game in a row, with a 55 yard catch-and-run midway through the 4th proving to be the game winning score. FSU ran the ball really well, which ended up hurting them as Jameis Winston wasn't ready to make big plays through the air when he was called on.

Eric Ebron celebrates his TD grab in the 3rd quarter

Devonta Freeman breaks away from Travis Hughes on his way to a 66 yard TD. Freeman ran for 251 yards on just 18 carries
      @ Duke (6-5, 3-5) - W 16-13

We're going bowling! Against all odds, the Tar Heels have turned a 1-5 start into a 6-6 season. This was yet another game where the offense never really got going. Both defenses ground the game to a halt, with just one touchdown on offense between both teams. Duke could have sent it to overtime, but poor clock management saw time run out at the end.

Renner stands tall in the face of pressure to find Eric Ebron for a score

Wow, what a stretch run for you there... pretty crazy to see that after losing all of those close games to start the season you end up completely turning that on its head and winning every game in close fashion. Renner had a great final few games, so it will be interesting to see who takes the reins for you next season, especially with no shortage of options including that freshman that you're bringing in. Also, who ended up winning the Heisman? That ended up being the one award that was conspicuously missing from your awards recap haha.

Yeah pretty crazy end to the year. Did not in a million years expect to beat that FSU team, but Renner got hot from the jump and we were just rolling all game. Gonna be interesting for sure to see who takes the job, you got Kanler Coker who had that 487 yard game early this season, Marquise Williams who would allow me to run more option, Fraser coming in who's like a poor man's Cam Newton, and Mitch Trubisky who I haven't even seen yet cause I never did practice at the start of year one. I also have a 3 star guy coming in, forget his ratings but he's got a good arm if I remember correctly.

As for the Heisman, it's not finalized because for whatever reason it's awarded at the end of the year, so I'll just post that along with the NCG and ACC team's bowl results, along with whatever else I decide to include in the final post before the offseason. Pretty sure Manziel has that locked up though.

As always, thanks for checking in and stay tuned for that bowl game! Coming tomorrow most likely.

                Independence Bowl vs Navy (6-6, 4-4) - L 27-48

Darius Staten left everyone in the dust on this 61 yard TD

Triple option... that damned triple option. I'm OK at defending it on 75% of snaps. Then that other 25 I get gashed for 15+ yards. Definitely gonna add some 4-6 into the book for next season just for Georgia Tech.

Overall, I'm pleased with the way we ended the year. 5 straight wins, including a huge upset of FSU is nothing to sneeze at. Recruiting has also gone really well. If our players develop well this season, I could see us winning 9 or 10 with good QB play in 2014.

For some reason I had thought you already had 7 losses - great job rebounding and making a bowl game, even if it was a loss. Onward to better times next season!

wow 533 yds rushing, that's crazy I don't think I have ever seen anyone give up that much.

Well at least it's over. Excited to see the recruiting class.

Holy smokes. That is a BRUTAL day against the option. I take it you didn't use either of the gameplan moves to have them focus on either the QB or the HB on the option? I know I typically don't just because it seems to nerf the opponent's option attack as soon as you choose one, so I just leave it at default usually. Assuming the sliders probably played a role in things as well, I know people (myself included) try to beef up the opposing rushing attack just because they usually never use it enough. Still, a solid finish to the season and looking forward to seeing how Year 2 goes. It's fun starting in a past year because you can compare yourself to the trajectory of the real program.

I didn't use the gameplan moves. I actually bottled up Reynolds pretty well. Sacks aside, he maybe went for 75. But man, the runs where it's 1v1, if the tackle gets made it's a 5-6 yard gain but if it's not it's a TD, those kill me. Staten had runs of 75 and 66 yards, that's 141 of his yards right there. He had another 20+ yard run, let's call it 25, so that's 166 of 254 yards coming on 3 touches. 88 yards on 8 carries is very good, but nowhere near the 254 on 11 he had. I'm still tweaking sliders. I do think I need some sort of adjustment, because I've given up far too many long runs. I've upped USER tackling to 40, hopefully that'll help.

It is a lot of fun to play with a past roster. I was initially going to sim to 2019 with whatever roster I had (think it was 19-20) just because the way those guys scale ratings doesn't mesh with the way the game generates players, but I figured it'd be fun to see names like Manziel, Clowney, Ebron etc.

Definitely going to be an interesting 2014 for my Tar Heels. QB battle should be good, I'm going to do a pretty extensive preseason practice session to award that, and of course the manual progression could see unexpected breakouts/regressions.

Yeah it was bad. 496 vs Georgia Tech earlier this season too. I'm also really hyped to get through the offseason and see how we're looking for next year.

So LSU went 2-10! Les Miles was of course, fired and replaced by now ex-Boise State HC Bryan Harsin.

Paul Chryst was fired from Pitt after going 3-9, and will be replaced by Ruffin McNeill, who will make the jump from G5 to P5 football, leaving ECU. Wake Forest hired Sean Kugler from UTEP. He'll attempt to guide the Demon Decons to their first winning season since 2008.

Other than LSU, nothing crazy happened.

I don't know what it is with LSU in this game, man. In my dynasty, they won the national title last year (the 2nd season on NCAA 14), going 15-0, then proceeded to go 5-7 this year. Weird stuff, man.
