Tough way to end the regular season. I am sure the Lending Tree Bowl against a (7-5) team from the MAC was what you were hoping for when the season started

Could be worse though, you could be Boise State climb all the way to the Top-10 only to lose your conference title and despite a 11-2 record and #15 ranking your stuck playing in a bowl game at home against a (7-5) MAC team as well.

Cool to see Holani in the Heisman vote but sadly it wasn't even close. Teague ran away with it. Crazy to see no dual threat QB in the Top-5.

Yeah it was a little disappointing end to the season, but expected with the way we were playing. And yeah the Boise State stuff is disappointing too but they're still treated like a lower school cuz of MWC.

For some reason QBs get no love in my dynasty, there was much better QBs worthy than Teague imo.

Arkansas State Hangs On To Win Ugly

MOBILE, Ala. - Arkansas State and Ball State meet in the LendingTree Bowl and Arkansas State faces another team that has a great run game, which has seemed to be their downfall this year. Ball State also has the 8th scoring defense so this game was really interesting for Arkansas State. After a back and forth game, and more of the same turnover troubles, the Red Wolves were able to hang on for a 24-23 victory over Ball State.

Arkansas State starts a with a few good plays but Layne Hatcher throws an interception to Amechi Uzodinma II and Arkansas State looks the same as they have all year. Ball State take advantage with a couple of big throws and cap it off with a 3 yard touchdown run by Caleb Huntley to make it 7-0. Hatcher does better this drive finding Marcel Murray out of the backfield for a couple big gains before finding Roshauud Paul for a 29 yard gain to put them at the 5. Hatcher punches it in from a yard out for a touchdown to make it 7-7. Ball State use their run game to get down field but stall out in the redzone and settle for a 27 yard field goal from Jack Knight to make it 10-7.

Hatcher and the Red Wolves drive down the field with a good mix of run and pass, but Hatcher goes down on an option play that sees Jamal Jones gain 13 yards. Logan Bonner comes in and finds Murray out of the backfield for a 10 yard touchdown pass to make it 14-10. Ball State get a couple of first downs but stall out and have to punt it away back to Arkansas State. Hatcher is able to return, but Murray goes down on the first play of the drive after a 6 yard run. Arkansas State drive the rest of the field including a big third down conversion where Hatcher finds Jonathan Adams Jr for 29 yards. Hatcher finds Paul for a 1 yard touchdown pass to make it 21-10. It turns out Murray dislocated his shoulder and would be done for the game. Ball State are able to run through the defense down the field and Drew Plitt finds Caleb Murray for an 8 yard touchdown pass to make it 21-17. Arkansas State doesn't move and is forced to punt it away for the first time today. Ball State do enough to get in good field goal position and kick a 36 yard field goal by Knight to make it 21-20 before half.

Ball State starts the half with the ball and a chance to take the lead but miss a 56 yard field goal. Arkansas State puts together a good drive but it ends on a third down sack that forces a 42 yard field goal attempt by Grupe and he misses! Ball State drives down the field and take the lead with a chip shot 18 yard field goal to make it 23-21. A good drive by the Red Wolves is stopped short of the redzone after Hatcher and Adams Jr. have some miscommunication and Hatcher throws an interception to Antonio Phillips.

Ball State have a good drive going but Knight misses a 55 yard field goal this time. Arkansas State's offensive line falters and gives up 3 big sacks on this drive that would force a punt back to Ball State. Ball State is stopped deep in their own territory and a good punt return puts the ball at their 41 for Arkansas State. Hatcher finds Tyler for a big 25 yard gain and then tries to go to him again in the corner of the endzone but it is intercepted by Hunter Causey. Despite giving up a few good passes, the Arkansas State defense doesn't give up and forces a punt. Hatcher puts together 5 straight completions to put Arkansas State back in the redzone, then throws his third redzone interception, this one to Phillips, trying to go to Dahu Green for a jump ball. Logan Bonner comes in for Hatcher on the next drive and is able to help Arkansas State drive down the field and Grupe hits a 36 yard field goal to make it 24-23 with 44 seconds left. Ball State drives down to the 50 yard line with 19 seconds left and they only have to get a field goal. Plitt finds Huntley for a 9 yard gain and they call a time out with 7 seconds left. Plenty of time to get in FG range. Plitt drops back...he may be taking too long, and he is sacked!! 3 seconds left on the clock and Ball State has to do a Hail Mary. Plitt fires quickly and finds McGaughy and he breaks a tackle, but is taken down after gaining 36 yards! Arkansas State hangs on for the win!

Pretty good first year all things considered! Nice to get the bowl win after a disappointing loss to Coastal to end the regular season.

Agreed, Arkansas State is still one of the better teams in the conference so you'll get the experience and thrill of winning more often early on. Hopefully when the time comes to take over a weak team in a strong conference, that momentum will carry over.

Diaz Signs 5-year Extension With Red Wolves

JONESBORO, Ark. - Despite the departure of Arkansas State head coach Blake Anderson, who has become the head coach of West Virginia, offensive coordinator Kurtis Diaz signed a 5 year extension to stay with Arkansas State through 2026.

It's a surprise that Diaz didn't take the head coaching job at Arkansas State. It was confirmed that he was interviewed and offered the job. When asked about it Diaz said, "I'm not ready to take that next step, but I have a lot of unfinished business here and plan on seeing it through in any capacity." Diaz was also interviewed and offered the offensive coordinator position at West Virginia, but it seems as he's not ready to leave his alma mater.

Defensive Coordinator Nick Paremski will also stay on with Arkansas State, however he did not get offered the head coaching job like Diaz. The next step for the Red Wolves will be finding a head coach that will be willing to take on both coordinators staying, something most head coaches don't have to do.

With yet another new head coach for Arkansas State, what made you decide to take an extension as opposed to finishing your original contract?

This was a while ago irl, but I believe it was just realism purposes. You have the #1 offense in the nation and they're going to want to keep you long term. I didn't accept the head coach job because it's only 1 year into the dynasty, but ArkSt would want to keep Diaz around.

                                Arkansas State Roster Preview

                                Quarterbacks
RS JR Layne Hatcher (86) returns for his third year starting. The former Alabam recruit, struggled last year under Diaz's new offense but vows to have learned and will succeed in the offense in his second year. RS SR Logan Bonner (85) remains the top option off the bench. Doing some good things in relief last year but also struggling keeping control of the ball. RS FR Brett Nezat (72) sits in wait after redshirting this year. He may be the future quarterback of this team.

                                Halfback/Fullback
SR Marcel Murray (87) returns for his final season and while we know he's a strong runner, he proved last year that he can be a top receiver out of the backfield as well. RS SO Isaiah Azubuike (76) redshirted last year, but looks to back up Murray in a similar role that Jamal Jones played last year. RS SR Ryan Graham (78) mostly played fullback but saw some limited halfback snaps last year. It looks like he'll be in much of the same role this year. SO Lincoln Pare (66) saw a very limited amount of time last year, but coach Diaz was said to be impressed with his stride this year and could see some critical 3rd down situations. FR Dusty Parrish (63) will see some action at fullback this year. FR Roderick Taylor (68) will be redshirted.

                                Wide Receiver/Tight End
RS SR Roshauud Paul (89) returns after being one of the leading receivers for this group last year. Now he takes the #1 spot that Adams Jr. held last year and hopes to accomplish much of the same. RS SR Javan Hawes (84) saw limited snaps last year and no receptions. He moves up to the #2 spot hoping to have a great senior season before moving on. There may be plans for him in the run game as well. RS SR Leroy Deshazor (80) is another receiver that didn't see much time. He only had two receptions but both were touchdowns. He will work the slot this year. SR Reed Tyler (86) returns as the starting tight end and is backed up by RS JR T.W. Ayers (76) who didn't see any time last year. RS FR Corey Rucker (71) redshirted last year and takes over the role that Roshauud Paul had last year. He impressed in spring practice, so don't be surprised if he puts up big numbers. FR Ryan Rose (75) will be the final wide receiver on the roster this year and had an up and down spring. He hopes to move up the chart with some more reps during the season. FR Alex Kerr (69) will be redshirted despite looking good in spring practice. Transfer RS SO Donald Clay (70) decided to use his year off to move from safety to wide receiver. Both of them could be threats next year.

                                Offensive Line
SR Jarrett Horst (89), RS SR Andre Harris Jr. (86), RS SR Justin Dutton (76), RS SR Wyatt Luebke (73), and SR Ernesto Ramirez (80) are the starters from left to right this year. Although an experienced group, there is some lacking, especially with pass protection on the right side of the line. SR Avery Demmons (72) and RS FR Austin Woods (71) will be the main backups with RS FR Kyle Kelly (69) and RS SO Ethan Miner (69) providing depth. FR Ryan Watkins (69), FR Aaron Thomas (63), FR Zach Jean (70), and JR Ryan Moore (66) are all redshirting. The line looks to take a big dip next year unless some good recruiting is done.

                                Top Defensive Talent
Up front RS FR Corbet Mims (78) and SR Terry Hampton (80) lead the pack, with SR Vidal Scott (78) and Mississippi State transfer RS FR Armondous Cooley (76) in the middle.

At linebacker, SR Derrick Bean (77) returns alongside standout recruit FR Jermaine Petty (80) and SR Fred Hervey (75).

Florida transfer JR Chester Kimbrough (85) and JR Jarius Reimonenq (82) provide a great foundation at cornerback, while SR Antonio Fletcher (88) and JR Anthony Switzer (76) cover over the top at safety.

                                Special Teams
RS SR Blake Grupe (89) returns for his final season and his eyes on the Groza. RS SO Ryan Hanson (76) returns at punter.

SR Booker Ficklin (74) will return kicks and FR Ryan Rose (75) will return punts this year.
