AUSTIN, Texas -- It took some time for Texas Head Coach Russell Warner to lay down the foundations on the recruiting front in the state of Texas after moving to Austin from Virginia Tech last season however he has well and truly planted his feet and some.

Today, Texas confirmed that Jalen Olorunfunmi, the nation's No. 2 wide receiver in the 2026 class according to 247Sports has committed to the program on Sunday night. Olorunfunmi, of Universal City, Texas chose the Longhorns over Notre Dame, Clemson, Oregon, and Oklahoma.

The 6-foot-4 receiver, who is ranked as the No. 10 prospect nationally, has had 19 catches for 414 yards and five touchdowns in only three games this season. He caught 51 passes for 1136 yards and 15 touchdowns as a junior.

To simplify things, Olorunfunmi will have a big impact as a freshman. We have already seen with Jaleel Solomon from last season's class that Texas head coach Russell Warner is not afraid to throw the young guys in there from day one. You only have to look at the impact Xander Weems has had in Warners' offense.

Jalen was offered by the Longhorns in March and has had two unofficial visits to the Texas campus with a further official visit scheduled for September 20th when the #13 Longhorns host #9 LSU.

"Texas fight," Olorunfunmi posted on Twitter. "I would like to announce my commitment to the University of Texas."

247Sports Director of Football Recruiting had this to say about Olorunfunmi:

"At 224lbs, Olorunfunmi already has NFL size for a receiver. He isn't blessed with elite speedrunning a 4.48 40 but what he doesn't have in speed he makes up for in his quick release which allows him to beat his defender off the step to create the space needed to make the catch. He is an extremely physical receiver who isn't afraid to put his body on the line to make the catch."

Jalen Olorunfunmi, whilst not in a position of great need for the Longhorns is a solid first get for Warner and his 2026 recruiting class. The fact that he is such a highly-touted recruit will do wonders for the Longhorns as the 2026 recruiting cycle moves along.

Surprisingly, for a quarterback rated just 69 overall, he played well above his rating. If the Bulldogs had anything else on offense then I really feel like this would have been close to a slipup because Schultz really had the Bulldogs offense moving early.

Haha ya that’s exactly what happened. Couldn’t find my post for a second.

Huge score landing an elite prospect already. Hopefully that just opens the flood gates.

Don't know if I've ever seen a report with tight ends as dominant as you have them. 20 TDs for Weems and 10 for Turrentine this season?

I think that has already sent out a message to other schools about what we are trying to achieve with the 2026 recruiting class. The 2024 season opened a few doors to us to some five-star talent and we plan on making it work.

I don't think I have ever had two TE's like Weems and Turrentine, both have TE builds with WR talent. They are both really cool to play with in the game and I am excited to see whether they can get close to your predictions this season.

We had big problems with Citizen and Co last year and I expect more of the same this year. The rebels are a good team on paper, let's just see what challenge they present us once again.

Austin, Texas -- Texas started last season's matchup with the Rebels slowly before finding a foothold in the game and walking out of Vaught Hemingway Stadium with a 20-16 win. Well today, in front of a packed Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium it was more of the same for the Longhorns, however, the big difference today was once they found their feet in the game it was all a one-way street from there.

Texas looked unstoppable on offense today, scoring touchdowns on every single offensive drive after the slow first quarter. True freshman Jaleel Solomon's first touchdown reception as a Longhorn got the ball rolling for Texas and they never looked back after that.

"At first, I thought here we go again," Texas Head Coach Russell Warner said after the game. "It was almost a carbon copy of the start we had last year, but once we got the ball moving on offense like I know we can there was no chance for this Rebels team."

Cade Klubnik would have had fans calling for Clayton Leake had he continued into the second quarter like he did the first. Klubnik was just 2-of-10 for 20 yards passing as the clock hit 0:00 to end the first quarter, however, the senior turned it around and ended up with player of the game honors at full-time. Klubnik finished the game 22-of-34 passing for 277 yards and three touchdowns. Le'Veon Moss, and Naeem Philips combined for 139 yards and three touchdowns on the ground, with Moss rushing for 89 and 2 off 20 carries, and Philips 50 and 1 off 9 carries. Jaivon Ramsey, and Yardley Gibson joined Solomon with receiving touchdowns. Gibson's the most impressive of the day as the sophomore managed to tap both feet inbounds to secure a 3-yard touchdown for Klubnik.

Thomas Trussell sacked Ole Miss quarterback Ty Simpson, as the redshirt freshman registered his first career sacks with Texas, whilst Ernest Cooper IV recorded his second of the season.

As a whole, the Longhorns defense kept Heisman hopeful Trevonte' Citizen quiet compared to last season when the 6-0, 217lbs running back torched the Longhorns for 200 yards. Today, he was held to "just" 92 and a touchdown by the Longhorn's defense.

Next week, Texas (2-0, 2-0) takes to the road and travels 528 miles north to Fayetteville to take on rivals Arkansas (0-1, 0-0). The Razorbacks are coming into the game off the back of a 31-3 loss at home to UCF.
