LEFT - Felix Redwine with the shoelace grab before turning upfield for a 62 yard TD to send 'Cuse to an early 21-0 lead.
CENTER - JR Childs tossed a couple of TDs in the 2nd half, but his 1st half was disastrous with two sacks and this pick six on a rushed throw that CB Tyree Kight read the whole way.
RIGHT - Senior LB Sean Schlauderaff made sure the defense started the game quickly, recording a sack on the 1st offensive play for the Wolfpack.

Charlotte, NC. - Under the bright lights of Bank of America Stadium, No. 7 Syracuse left no doubt about its playoff credentials, dominating No. 18 NC State 45-17 to capture its second consecutive ACC Championship. The Orange stormed out of the gates, scoring on their first four possessions and overwhelming the Wolfpack on both sides of the ball.

Syracuse quarterback Dennis Seri opened the scoring with a 3-yard rushing touchdown, and JC Hoag followed with a 6-yard score to give the Orange an early 14-0 lead after the first quarter. The second quarter was more of the same, as Seri found Felix Redwine for a 62-yard touchdown bomb, Hoag punched in his second score from two yards out, and Tyree Kight returned an interception 21 yards to the house. NC State’s only answer before the half was a 53-yard field goal by Bobby Mare, as the Wolfpack limped into the locker room trailing 35-3.

The second half saw NC State finally find the end zone, as JR Childs connected with Danny Terrell for a 23-yard touchdown in the third quarter. But Syracuse responded with a 36-yard field goal from Desmond Brewer and a 13-yard touchdown run from Spencer Vernon to put the game out of reach in the fourth. NC State added a late 49-yard touchdown pass from Childs to Terrell, but it was far too little, too late.

Syracuse’s defense was suffocating, holding the Wolfpack to just 105 total yards and five first downs in the first half, while the Orange piled up 277 total yards, including 151 on the ground. JC Hoag was once again the workhorse, rushing for 125 yards and two touchdowns, breaking his own single-season school rushing record with 1,894 yards and tying Walter Reyes’ single-season touchdown record with 20. Jason Veasy continued his dominant campaign, recording a sack to give him 21.5 on the season, breaking the school’s single-season sack record.

With the win, Syracuse strengthens its College Football Playoff case, moving to 12-1 and securing an automatic bid as ACC champions. The Orange now await Selection Sunday, where they are expected to make their second straight CFP appearance.

      The Road to Glendale

Since the inception of the College Football Playoff, the old adage has held true: It’s not just about losing—it’s about when you lose. No team understands that lesson more painfully than the UCLA Bruins. After rattling off 10 straight wins to finish the regular season 11-1, UCLA’s hopes were shattered in a stunning 4OT loss to UNLV in the Mountain West Championship Game. While many expected the Bruins to drop to the final playoff spot, no one anticipated just how far they would fall.

On Selection Sunday, the committee sent a clear message: losing to a 7-5 team in a conference title game was unforgivable. UCLA plummeted to No. 18 in the final rankings, not only missing the playoff but falling completely out of contention. It’s been a brutal stretch for the Bruins, who recently learned they’d been passed over for a Pac-12 spot next season—only to be left out of the CFP just weeks later.

Outside of UCLA’s shocking snub, the rest of the playoff field came together with little drama.

Conference champions Alabama (No. 1), Syracuse (No. 2), Oregon (No. 3), and Ball State (No. 4) secured first-round byes, while Tulane locked in the final automatic bid as AAC champions. Meanwhile, Missouri snuck in at No. 12 despite missing the Big 12 title game, and Central Michigan landed at No. 11 after a 10-2 season, though losses to Toledo and Ball State kept them out of the MAC Championship Game.

Here’s how the first-round matchups shape up:

#12 Missouri at #5 Texas – The Tigers head south for a showdown with their former Big 12 and SEC rival. The winner earns a trip to the Peach Bowl to face No. 4 Ball State.

#9 Tennessee at #8 Georgia – The Vols head to Athens, where they’ll try to win two in a row against Georgia after their regular-season 45-20 victory. Awaiting the winner? A rematch with top-seeded Alabama in the Orange Bowl.

#11 Central Michigan at #6 Kansas State – The Wildcats welcome the Chippewas to Manhattan, with a Fiesta Bowl date against No. 3 Oregon on the line.

#10 Tulane at #7 Boise State – The Green Wave travel to “The Blue” to take on the Pac-12 runner-up Broncos, with a Cotton Bowl clash against No. 2 Syracuse up for grabs.

The road to a national championship is set. Now, the battle begins.

        Heisman Heads Back To Tuscaloosa

New York, NY. - Alabama senior quarterback Rashard Gann has been a frontrunner in the Heisman race since the season began, and his five-touchdown performance in the SEC Championship Game left no doubt. On college football’s biggest individual stage, Gann took home the sport’s most prestigious trophy.

“To join the list of legendary athletes who have won this award at Alabama is a tremendous honor,” said the Maryland native during his acceptance speech. “Those guys followed up their Heisman wins with a national championship, and we expect to do the same this year.”

While Syracuse head coach Nash Savage’s own candidate, running back Spencer Vernon, finished third in the voting, a familiar face took second place. Ball State star HB Cortez Duval, recruited by Savage at Ball State, finished as the Heisman runner-up after leading the nation with 22 touchdowns.

In an impressive testament to Savage’s impact, four of the top five Heisman finalists were either current or former players under his guidance. Syracuse defensive end Jason Veasy finished fifth, while Ball State quarterback Titus Awe landed in fourth place.

Syracuse players still hauled in plenty of hardware, collecting five major awards. Veasy headlined the group by taking home three trophies: the Bednarik, Nagurski, and his second consecutive Lombardi Award. Linebacker Sean Schlauderaff won his second straight Linebacker of the Year honor, while defensive back Leo Tauscher secured the Thorpe Award.

Ball State also made its mark, with head coach Mike Bloomgren edging out Savage for the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year award. Duval narrowly beat Syracuse’s JC Hoag for the Doak Walker Award as the nation’s top running back, and tight end Marvin Mooney claimed the Mackey Award.

With the awards handed out and the postseason looming, all eyes now turn to the College Football Playoff, where many of these elite talents will have the chance to add championship glory to their résumés.

LEFT - Hoag got the party started early, putting the Tulane D on skates as he jetted for a 49 yard touchdown.
CENTER - Syracuse's defense was stifling, holding Tulane to just 161 total yards while only recording two sacks, both of which came late in the 4th Q.
RIGHT - Deron Wusu keeping Tulane from gaining any momentum with the 2nd Q INT to set up Spencer Vernon's 36 yard TD as time expired in the 1st half.

Arlington, TX. - No. 3 Syracuse wasted no time asserting its dominance in the Cotton Bowl, steamrolling No. 10 Tulane 49-14 to punch its ticket to the College Football Playoff semifinals. Behind a blistering start from star running back JC Hoag and a suffocating defensive effort, the Orange cruised past the Green Wave to set up a Rose Bowl showdown against Oregon.

Syracuse opened the game with a methodical drive capped by a 49-yard touchdown burst from Hoag, who added a 10-yard score on the following possession. The star tailback racked up 128 yards and two touchdowns on just 11 carries in the first quarter—outgaining Tulane’s entire offense, which managed only 14 total yards in the opening period.

The onslaught continued in the second quarter as quarterback Dennis Seri took over, punching in a pair of short rushing touchdowns before connecting with Spencer Vernon for a 36-yard score. By halftime, Syracuse had built a commanding 35-0 lead, outgaining Tulane 335-81, including a staggering 221 rushing yards to just three for the Green Wave. Tulane had a chance to avoid the shutout before the break, but a 43-yard field goal attempt sailed wide left, encapsulating a frustrating half for the AAC champions.

Tulane finally found the end zone in the third quarter with a two-yard touchdown pass from Sean Benzinger to Brendan Gado, but Syracuse responded in the fourth with a one-yard Hoag touchdown and an eight-yard score from Trenton Gilliam. Tulane’s Nazir Jolly provided the only real highlight for the Green Wave, returning a kickoff 102 yards for a late touchdown, but by then, the outcome had long been decided.

Syracuse’s defense was dominant from start to finish, allowing just 161 total yards—145 through the air and a mere 16 on the ground. The unit forced two interceptions and recorded two sacks in the fourth quarter as it put the finishing touches on a smothering performance.

Hoag left in the third quarter with minor rib discomfort but returned in the fourth and is expected to be fully available for the semifinals, according to head coach Nash Savage.

Elsewhere in the playoff, Texas eliminated Ball State with a 54-42 shootout win, fueled by a defensive explosion in the first half that included eight sacks and four interceptions. Ball State quarterback Titus Awe threw six total picks, marking the second consecutive year he struggled in the postseason after tossing four in last year’s first-round loss to Boston College.

With the win, Syracuse advances to the Rose Bowl, where it will meet No. 4 Oregon for a spot in the national championship game. The Orange will look to avenge last season’s heartbreaking 38-35 Fiesta Bowl semifinal loss to LSU and take the next step toward their first national title under Savage.

Man my Broncos really let me down. First they lose to the Ducks in the Pac-12 Championships then they lose to Tulne to ruin the Blue vs Orange matchup

Looks like Tulane forgot to show up for the 1st half

I was rooting for them both times, although if they did win I think it would have been on Ball State's side of the bracket instead of ours.

Speaking of Ball State...sigh. It was a rough game. The Texas Dline man handled our offensive line and it was all over from there. Couldn't get the running game going at all and everytime I dropped back it felt like I had instant pressure. 8 1st half sacks and 4 INTs, two of which were from being hit on the throw. Yet we were in it in the 3rd quarter, then two more INTs put Texas up big. We scored and tired the onside, but they recovered. Even then we would have needed a quick score, then another onside, THEN another quick score.

I guess it saves me the drama of facing them further down the line

LEFT - The Orange's defense are the real MVPs of the game, holding the Ducks offense without a touchdown while tallying 9 sacks and an INT.
CENTER LEFT - Syracuse had a 24-19 lead with just under 2 minutes remaining. Instead of playing it safe on 3rd and 11, Nash Svaage had Jumaane Cox go deep for the killshot with a 66 yard TD to Felix Redwine.
CENTER RIGHT - Trailing 31-19 with less than 1:30 left, Oregon gambled and lost on a heave to the endzone.
RIGHT - Syracuse mobbing SR QB Jumaane Cox after the win. Cox lost last years CFP Semifinals with a 2 INT performance in a close loss to LSU, but came in relief of Dennis Seri and sparked the Orange comeback.

Pasadena, CA. - In a dominant second-half performance, No. 3 Syracuse stormed past No. 4 Oregon 38-19 in the 2029 Rose Bowl, securing a spot in the College Football Playoff National Championship. Despite trailing 16-10 at halftime, the Orange rode a stifling defense and the leadership of backup quarterback Jumaane Cox to punch their ticket to Glendale.

Oregon struck first when safety Koren Cobbs jumped a crossing route and returned an interception 70 yards for a touchdown. Syracuse quickly responded as tight end Mateo Chickillo found himself wide open for a 51-yard touchdown reception from Dennis Seri. The Ducks took control in the second quarter, capitalizing on Syracuse mistakes. After George Henery’s 45-yard field goal, Oregon recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff but had to settle for another three points after the Orange defense stiffened. Cobbs intercepted Seri again late in the half, setting up another Henery field goal to give Oregon a 16-10 lead at the break.

Syracuse turned to Cox in the second half after Seri’s struggles, and the senior delivered in a redemption moment. Taking over with a chance to redeem last season’s Fiesta Bowl loss, Cox orchestrated a 10-play drive, capping it with a 1-yard rushing touchdown to give the Orange their first lead at 17-16. The Syracuse defense remained relentless, forcing another Oregon three-and-out before Cox led another extended drive, finishing with a 3-yard touchdown pass to Jeffrey Franz.

Oregon’s best chance came midway through the fourth quarter when running back John Anenih broke free for 55 yards before being tracked down by Syracuse safety Tucker Colman. The Ducks moved inside the Syracuse 25 but were forced to settle for a fourth Henery field goal, trimming the deficit to 24-19. With the game on the line, Cox silenced any doubts about his ability, launching a 66-yard touchdown pass to Felix Redwine on third-and-11 to put the game out of reach. Oregon’s last gasp ended when Kevin Blonko was intercepted in the end zone by Deon Stokley, and Syracuse’s JC Hoag sealed the victory with a 36-yard touchdown run.

Syracuse’s defense was the true MVP, racking up nine sacks and holding Oregon without an offensive touchdown. Defensive end Jason Veasy led the charge with 2.5 sacks, breaking Terrell Suggs’ single-season record with his 25th sack on the year. After lifting the Rose Bowl trophy, Cox reflected on his moment of redemption: “I wasn’t about to cost us two straight National Championship berths.”

With the victory, Syracuse advances to the CFP National Championship, where they will face No. 1 Alabama and Heisman-winning quarterback Rashard Gunn in Glendale, Arizona.

Only thing better then Charred Duck is some Duck Jerky a friend of mine made once after a successful Duck Hunt.

Congrats.... #1 Alabama.. Listen to your own words of advice when I faced them.. Don't let them use their extra CPU skills to their advantage.. Get the lead early and keep it..

Nice to see Cox get a little redemption.. Reminds me of a guy named Clayton Dees. Now the question is do you roll with him as the starter for the Natty because the reality is we know if you have any chance at winning it's not what the QB does for you but what he doesn't (turnovers) as Hoag is the real MVP

Never tried Duck jerky, but I've had charred duck at a Chinese restaurant and it was delicious.

I'm riding with Cox, even though yesterday or this morning I said Seri was my guy for the season lol. I just can't get used to the lefty is part of it, I tend to drift right while in the pocket out of habit, which I can't do with a lefty because for whatever reason if he isn't running left he just keeps sidestepping the despite me mashing the sprint button. I wish he would revert back to 8/9 for 4 TDs against Army, but I don't see it happening.

We've had trouble out of the gate establishing the running game, looked liek the CPU finally adjusted and was daring me to throw it deep. Once Cox came in and went on a tear they backed off the run blitzs and Hoag finally got free. The crowd was chanting MVP at one point when he was carrying it. He's also getting worn down though, his W&T bar was in the orange all game against Oregon, so hopefully he doesn't blow a tire in the Natty.

LEFT - Felix Redwine saluting all the Orange faithful that made the trip from Syracuse to Glendale.
CENTER LEFT - Rashard Gann finally showed us his Heisman ability with a 69 yard BOMB to Darren Costello, who leapt in front of the waiting Syracuse defender before waltzing into the end zone for the first, and only, Bama TD.
CENTER RIGHT - Syracuse looked primed to answer the touchdown in the 3rd quarter, but a rare JC Hoag fumble gave the Crimson Tide a chance to pull within 4.
RIGHT - Deron Wusu waving goodbye to the crowd after snagging an INT following the Hoag fumble. A Syracuse TD would stretch the lead and send the fair weather Bama fans to the exits.

Glendale, Arizona - Syracuse capped off a historic season with a dominant 38-10 victory over No. 1 Alabama in the 2029 National Championship at State Farm Stadium, securing their first national title since 1959. In a game defined by relentless defense and the poise of backup-turned-starter Jumaane Cox, the Orange overwhelmed the Crimson Tide from start to finish.

After leading Syracuse to a comeback win over Oregon in the semifinals, Cox was entrusted with the starting role, and he wasted no time making an impact. On the game’s opening drive, he connected with tight end Mateo Chickillo for 54 yards before capping the possession with a 5-yard touchdown pass to Felix Redwine. The Syracuse defense set the tone early, sacking Heisman winner Rashard Gann on Alabama’s first play and forcing a punt after a third-and-long conversion was quickly erased by two more sacks. The Orange kept rolling as Cox found Spencer Vernon on a 55-yard screen pass to extend the lead to 14-0 early in the second quarter.

Alabama’s struggles continued, punting after another three-and-out before finally catching a break when Cox lost a fumble on an 18-yard scramble. The Tide managed to turn the short field into a 52-yard field goal by Moses Duggan, but Cox responded with another methodical drive, finishing it himself with a 1-yard plunge to send Syracuse into halftime up 21-3. Alabama’s best first-half chance to score a touchdown ended when Deon Stokley intercepted Gann just outside the red zone, foreshadowing the troubles ahead for the Tide quarterback.

Alabama came out strong after halftime, with Gann finding Darren Costello for a 69-yard touchdown to cut the deficit to 21-10. The Crimson Tide defense momentarily swung momentum their way when JC Hoag fumbled in Alabama territory, but their offense failed to capitalize, managing only a single 22-yard completion before punting. Syracuse responded immediately, as Cox hit Chickillo on another deep shot before Hoag punched in a 4-yard touchdown, stretching the lead back to 28-10.

Facing a three-score deficit, Gann began to press, and the Syracuse defense took full advantage. The Orange intercepted him on three consecutive fourth-quarter drives, including a costly red zone turnover. Syracuse added a 27-yard Desmond Brewer field goal and a second Hoag rushing touchdown to seal the 38-10 statement victory.

The Syracuse defense was relentless, recording five sacks—all in the first half—and forcing four interceptions. Cox, the improbable hero, finished 16-of-19 for 267 yards and two touchdowns while keeping Alabama’s defense off balance with his dual-threat ability. It was a redemption performance for Cox, who had lost the starting job in consecutive seasons before being thrust into postseason action. A year after falling to LSU in the Fiesta Bowl, Cox returned to the same field and delivered the game of his life.

With the victory, Syracuse claims its first national championship in 70 years, while head coach Nash Savage captures his second title in just five seasons, improving to 9-2 in playoff games.
