      Another 1st, as Stangs Win

Not only did the Stangs win thier inaugaral homeopener they also won thier 1st inaugural away game, beating the Blues 6 to 3.

Thompson, Gratton, Antropov, Kubina (GWG), Armstrong, and Jagr tallied for the boys from London while Pietrangelo, Backes (PP), and D'Agostini found the back of the net for the Blues.

The Stangs would open scoring at 9:16 in the 1st with a goal from Thompson and other then a little scare in the 3rd, they pretty much owned the game. Pavelec, shutting down the Blues for 28:53 mins, stopped 31 of 34 shots, got 1 helper, and recorded his 2nd win of the season.

Great start to the season and a lot of milestones.

        Pavelec has 2 assists. Wow.

        Where is Evander Kane though?

I think bthomp drafted Nathan Thompson instead of drafting Evander Kane.

I've always like the Thrashers cuz they always have good young talent. They just can't seem to ever get it together. I think that you made the trades that did happen for Atlanta this year. I like your roster a lot and will be following! You playing in the AHL again? Who's your top prospects in Chicago?

My goof, I see Kane is on the Kings.

Thrashers top prospects would be Kulda, Holzapfel, Machacek, etc. Don't know whos all on NHL 10.

Thanks thrashman. I know Pavelec (eventhough he's only rated 78) is a great puck mover - he can really make the stretch pass that helps immensley on the rush, just love this guy. Plays way better then he's rated.

As Bure said I draft Thompson and LAK drafted Kane.

Thanks Bure. I won't play every game, maybe one here and there to get a feel for the team. Currently the top prospects on the Wolves (organized by overal potential rating) are Vishnevsky, Machacek, Stewart, but I made some FA signings after this game, so that list has been updated which I will do in a minute. Thanks for following.

Welcome back Axeshun... And I care how you feel because, just kidding. I knew some people would not like the move but I like London Ontario very much (lived there for 13 years). So I thought it was appropriate, plus I have been to knight games there and the fans are wild. Thanks for the support.

Like I said above will be doing an update on FAs I signed. Interesting that you said Kulda and Holzapfel because NHL 10 didn't give them high potential compared to other prospects.

                  Stangs Add Future

With the 09/10 season underway, Stangs management stuck to thier word about rebuilding and added some new prospects to the team through UFA.

"These guys weren't playing at the moment and it was a waste to see that potential wirther away. So I made the moves and now they are part of our wonderful organization." Quoted Dudley.

The moves, all destined to the Wolves at this point, really identify of how important creating a team for the future is and that idea starts in the AHL. The signings went like this.

Stangs sign C Marek Zagrapan to a entry level contract:
                  - This 6'1", 195 lb center has great speed and agility. Drafted by Buffalo in 2005, has mainly played in the AHL for Rochester and Portland. He has been rated B in potential by Central Scouting and is listed as a playmaker. Will log many minutes in the top 6 forward categorie of the Chicago Wolves.

Stangs sign G Karri Rano to a 2year-2way contract:
                  - A 6'2", 201 lb butterfly style goalie was drafted by the Lightning in 2004. Remarked as having great vision and crease speed, has been rated B- by Central Scouting and has been said to be destined to be a starter goalie in the future. He will be the Wolves starting goalie this season.

Stangs sign D-man Brenden Mikkelson to a entry level contract:
                  - A steady puck-moving 6'2", 202 lb defensemen, logged 35 pims in 65 games last year with the Anaheim organization. Rated B- by Central Scouting, has great speed and a hit to be reckoned with. He will most likely log minutes on either the 2nd or 3rd d-pairng for the Wolves.

With these new acquisitions the top prospects for the Stangs are:

Zaprapan (Wolves), Vishnovsky (Gladiators), Machacek (Wolves), Mikkelsson (Wolves), Stewart (Wolves), Ramo (Wolves)

                    Stangs Bite Sens

Talk about a great first run as the Stangs improve thier inuguaral season start to 3-0-0 by beating the Senators in a high scoring game, 8 to 4.

Valabik (his first of the season) would open scoring at 6:24 followed by another goal 36 seconds later by Thompson (His 3rd of the season). Other Stang contributors were Kubina (SHG), another one by Thompson (4th), Jagr (3rd), two by Antropov (2nd and 3rd, 2 PPs), and one by Afinogenov (beats Volchenkov to the right then Leclaire to the left top shelf - beautiful goal).

On the other side of the ice Alfredsson (2nd, PP), Spezza (2nd), Michalek, and Campoli (PP) would tally for the Sens. Elliot, let in 5 goals on 21 shots, was pulled at 19:03 of the 2nd for his lousy play. Leclaire, who replaced Elliot, didn't fair much better letting in 3 goals on 17 shots.

This was the Stangs 2nd road win and 3rd win in a row. Next on the path is the Devils (4-1-0) after a 5 day break. This is the first time the Stangs will play against Kovalchuk since the trade, should be interesting.

Optional Skate at the Labatts Center

Flying home for the 5 day break before taking on the Devils, GM/interm Coach Dudley held a optional skate at the Labatts Center. And surprise, surprise most of the team showed up.

Having some free time to 'do whatever' on the ice, a couple players and Dudley were asked a few questions.

Any trade discussions on the horizon Dudley?

"At this point its still early in the season so no I am not looking at moving any of my 12 forwards or 6 d-man or 2 goalies. But I have been in discussions with another team about possible trading some late picks/prospects to get some high potential prospects for the Wolves. As this is an ongoing persuit I can't say who is involved but I will definately let you know when it happens."

Many of your players have been performing well, specifically rookie Thompson and Kubina. But Kozlov and Little have been absent from the score sheet, any plans?

"First off I would like to say that I am very happy about the way those 2 gentleman have been playing. They have really stepped up thier game and they seem to know exactly where to be to make it count. I hope those two guys can keep it going."

"That is true, both players have been having a hard time finding themselves. But its still early and I would want a couple more games under our belt before I make any changes, and as in changes I mean internal not external."

Pavelec has been a big contributor so far this season, whats your take on him?

"He has really stepped it up after we traded Lehtonen. Not only is he standing strong in our net, he is contributing on the offense. He stands at 7th in scoring with the team with 3 assists, and his puck playing ability has been phenominal. Getting those stretch passes out to our forwards takes skill and evidently he has it."

Playing Kovalchuk for the first time since the trade, any strategies to shut him down?

"To be honest we are not going to play any different. Our man goal so far has been to score early and get that first goal, this game will be no different. Yes Gratton, White, Armstrong and our D-core will have to play a smarter game, and yes I will mostly likely be switching Oduya - Bogosian and Hainsey - Valabik for this game to bring a couple DD to the top 2 lines. But other then that we will keep playing the way we have been, and I know we will shut him down."

Thompson, 7 points in 3 games, how does it feel?

"I wouldn't be here if Dudley hadn't had faith in me and drafted me so my thanks goes to him first... Its been a great ride, playing with Jagr has really helped my game. Anyone playing with a player like that knows that his 'awesomeness' rubs off on you. I just hope I can keep it up and continue to make my teammates/coach/fans proud."

Jagr, how does it feel to be back and playing with these young guys?

"I am very happy to be back and playing for such a great organization. I know this is a new franchise and its ultimate goal is a rebuild, but starting out 3 and 0 just makes its so much better. Playing with such a well rounded player, and may I add way beyond his years, Thompson has given me a run for my money. His youth kind of falls on me and makes me play better, he really is the real deal. Crosby, Malkin, Ovi, look out, theres a new rookie in town."

Kubina, you have played for a few teams now, Leafs being your last, what is difference with this new chise?

"Thats an easy one. A GM/Coach who believes in you. There are no expectations to win so that helps emensley. I just lace up my skates, hit the ice, and do what I have to do. This is a great team and I'm happy to be here."

                      Line Switch:

With the upcoming match between the Stangs and Devils, intern coach Dudley has switched up the d-pairing for this game.

                      Oduya - Kubina
                      Enstrom - Valabik
                      Hainsley - Bogosian

I could see Holzapfel being hit or miss. He may or may not pan out. Kulda is a stud though, but since he's a defensive-defenseman that probably hurt his rating since he doesn't put up many points.

Nice signings on those 3 prospects.

Nice signings on those 3 prospects.
Thanks, I hope they pan out. Unfortunately so far Rano has been 0-2 with a GAA of 3.40, so I hope this isn't a glimpse of what will happen. Maybe thats why the Lightning kind of let him linger.

Yeah, I think Ramo is a good player but he didn't pan out with Tampa. Of course they put a bad team, especially defensively, in front of him. He was a KHL All-Star this year though with Avangard.

If I'm not mistaken when Ramo was with TB he had a goalie mask that looked like a brain.

I think your right. Will have to google an image of him.

I hope he pans out though, I have a feeling when I start giving Hedberg minutes he's going to suck. And I want to focus on aquiring prospects this season, not having to pick up a veteran goalie from FA that eats up cap and roster space. I have alot of faith in Pavelec but he's only rated 78 and is still very young, it could be a disaster for me.

Rano is a beast in Net. Might pick him up for next season. What logo did you go with in the Create a Team deal. I was thinking about making the Motor City Mustangs for my Roller Hockey League I am going to make after the Wings playoff is done.
