    Leafs Reveal Opening Night Roster
The Toronto Maple Leafs revealed their opening night roster to the public eye this morning, hoping to improve on an unsuccessful 2011-2012 season. Phil Kessel and Dion Phaneuf are expected to lead the team this season, with both of them making the team without a question.

However, a surprising decision by the front office was also made. The Leafs announced that they have sent down offensive defenseman Jake Gardiner to play with the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League. When general manager Martin Miller was asked about the send down, he said that "Jake [Gardiner] would be better off getting top line playing time in the AHL than to sit out half of the games in the NHL." This does not mean that we will not see Gardiner this season in a Leafs jersey, as he will likely be the first defenseman to be called up should one be injured.

Leafs Fall To Rivals In Season Opener

The Montreal Canadiens walked into the Air Canada Center and took care of the Toronto Maple Leafs, shutting them out by a score of 2-0. Without starting goaltender Carey Price, who is out for 2-3 weeks with a sprained left ankle, the Canadiens played a physical game, delivering hard hit after hard hit to shut down the Toronto offense.

The game was definitely a physical one, as Leafs defenseman Carl Gunnarsson and Canadiens forward Brain Gionta dropped the gloves just three minutes into the game following a big hit by Gunnarsson. Less than five minutes later, offensive defenseman Cody Franson got into it with high scoring forward Tomas Plekanec of the Canadiens. The game finished with a total 28 penalty minutes for both teams combined, with 14 going to the Canadiens and 10 going to the Leafs.

Leafs Pull Out Win Against Injury Shaken Capitals

The Washington Capitals were helpless without their star center Nicklas Backstrom to help Alexander Ovechkin against the Maple Leafs. Backstrom is expected to miss two to three weeks with a bruised hand after blocking a shot during a pre-season game. Fellow teammate Troy Brouwer was also out of the lineup and has been listed as day-to-day with post concussion syndrome.

Captain Dion Phaneuf scored the first goal of the season for the Maple Leafs after they were shutout by Montreal in their season opener. Sniper Phil Kessel also added his first goal of the young season early in the second period before Clarke MacArthur snuck a goal past young Capitals goaltender Braden Holtby around four minutes later for the third goal.

That was all that Leafs goalie James Reimer needed, as he 31 saves for his first win of the season as well as his first shutout of the season.

Leafs Fall To Blue Jackets In Scrivens; First Start

The Leafs fell at the hands of the Columbus Blue Jackets at the Air Canada Center. The Blue Jackets entered the game with an 0-2-0 record, looking for their first win of the season against the 1-1-0 Leafs.

With back-to-back games following their win against the Washington Capitals, Leafs coach Randy Carlyle turned to backup goaltender Ben Scrivens to make his first start of the season. The game however was a shootout, with 77 shots combined (40 coming from the Leafs and 37 coming from the Blue Jackets). Scrivens finished the game with 34 shots, allowing Vinnie Prospal, Derek Mackenzie and Nikita Nikitin to beat him. His counterpart, Sergei Bobrovsky faired well, stopping 39 of 40 shots, letting only Leafs sniper Phil Kessel to beat him early in the third period.

I don't know what's worse; the loss, or the outdated photo of Antonie Vermette in a Blue Jackets jersey.

Daaaamn Bobrovsky, 39 saves? Holy crap.

Also, just by chance. How do you get the SV% option for goalies in your boxes? The one I see only gives GAA, shots and saves.

Yeah Bobrovsky stool on his head for the Jackets.

Oh and to get the save percentage, all I did was input shots, saves and goals against average. After that when you get the code for the box score, it should already have the save percentage included.

Just wondering, would any of you guys like to see me do a career (Be A Pro/Live The Life) dynasty? If so, could you please post which position you would like to see me play (goalie seems interesting)?

Leafs Sneak Past Senators In First Battle Of Ontario

The Toronto Maple Leafs took the first game of the Battle of Ontario between the Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators when they beat the Senators in a shootout thanks to a 11th round goal by rookie Matt Frattin.

Both teams scored in the first and third periods with both goalies posting scoreless second periods. Cory Conacher and Kyle Turris scored for the Senators and James Van Riemsdyk and offensive defenseman Cody Franson answered back for the Maple Leafs. Of course, the Battle of Ontario once again looked like it was a UFC fight night, with Leo Komarov squaring off against Cory Conacher on the ensuing faceoff following the goal by Conacher. Komarov easily won the fight against the young winger, while tough guy Colton Orr squared off against Guillame Latendresse in the second period to try to provide a spark for the quiet Leafs offense. Craig Anderson made 38 saves in the loss compared to the 36 saves made by Leafs goalie James Reimer. Leafs forward Phil Kessel left the game after taking a hit from Jason Spezza. Kessel's injury is currently listed as day-to-day with a lower body injury, but will be re-evaluated back in Toronto by team doctors.
