Re: Mr. Second Place: An Autobiographical Tale of Alvin Allen (Fifa 13)
CSKA Moskva v. AC Milan
Europa League
Quarterfinals- 1st leg
CSKA Moskva (4-2-3-1) Milan (4-3-3) GK Akinfeev GK Brkic RB Mario Fernandes RB Abate RCB Sivok RCB Acerbi LCB Vasin LCB Trellez LB Schennikov LB Didac RDM Elm RCM Paulinho LDM Mamaev CDM de Jong RM Oliseh LCM Montolivo LM Dzagoev RW El Shaarawy CAM Honda CF Allen ST Doumbia LW Carmona
Once again two former Champions league teams look to regain glory by meeting in the quarterfinal round of the Europa League. Both teams had the misfortune of being placed in challenging groups, and tough circumstances forced both to fall into this position. That doesn’t mean that either will hold back their intensity as each team wants to redeem themselves with silverware and they will have to go through each other to get there. The stage was set for the grand match at San Siro Stadium, home of Milan, as the home team looked to get off to a good start.
The beginning of the match showed a distinct contrast in styles as the wing attacking style of Milan had to deal with the clogged midfield of CSKA Moskva. Milan would take advantage of the matchup early, pushing up the left side with Carmona and Montolivo. Carmona would find Allen inside just outside the penalty area, where he was immediately tackled hard by Elm. The foul was given by the referee, and Milan had a free kick in prime territory. El Shaarawy would put the attempt just over the crossbar. Akinfeev screamed at his defenders in frustration, and CSKA knew they were in for a battle.
CSKA Moskva would rebound quickly off of that scare, pushing back in the middle of the field with strength. Elm would hit Oliseh streaking up the left side, who was marked by de Jong, playing a bit out of position. Oliseh would sneak it inside to Honda playing just outside the penalty area. He would buy time in the middle as Trellez would hesitate slightly. Honda would give a through ball to the speedy Doumbia who would one time it straight to the corner. Brkic had already cheated that way and punched the tough shot away. The ball would take an odd bounce back to Honda, but the rebound would head over the crossbar, ending the CSKA Moskva attack.
Slow play would continue as both teams continued to feel each other out, but eventually Milan’s speed on the wings turned the tide. El Shaarawy would send the long pass up the right wing to Allen who was just onside and he blazed past his defender running to his right. The ball would hit him in stride, as Schennikov would race to catch up. He would, but Allen would fake shot to get inside and turn on the jets. Allen would shoot with his left foot into the bottom corner of the net. Akinfeev would misjudge the shot, hesitating for a bit too long and the ball would sail past him for the goal and the 1-0 lead in the 31’.
Allen adds to his Europa League goal total with this gem
Milan would give CSKA Moskva more trouble before the half as they would continue to create chances out wide. Crosses would come in from both sides and so far Sivok and Vasin had proven up to the task with big clearances to prevent Milan from getting another goal. However, it couldn’t last forever and Montolivo would take advantage, heading out to the left corner, drawing Mario Fernandes way outside. Carmona would cut inside, pushing into the void left behind by the left back and just in front of Sivok. Montolivo would shake his defender and send in the cross to the near post where Carmona was waiting. Akinfeev would read the play well, but Carmona would head the ball down just inside the near post past the outreached fist of Akinfeev would tried to punch it away. The ball would roll into the net for the goal and the 2-0 lead for Milan heading into halftime.
Milan would come out with all cylinders firing in the second half, pushing forward with the same formula that they did in the first half. CSKA Moskva could not find any room, as Milan would wait for CSKA to make a mistake and then capitalize with a long possession and speed outside. Doumbia was clearly frustrated, as the star striker had little time to operate and very little room to maneuver due to the outstanding work by the Milan back line led by the effort of Abate. Abate would get a chance for a bit of offensive play as well, as he would take the ball from Dzagoev and push forward as no one would come over to cover him. By the time CSKA Moskva realized he wasn’t passing the ball it was too late. Schennikov would charge out wide, but it was too late as he would send in an ambitious cross from pretty far away from the penalty area. Carmona would find it with his head in the middle of the field just inside the penalty area. Akinfeev would cheat towards the near post, expecting an attempt on goal, but Carmona would head the ball backwards, over the head of Sivok right onto the awaiting leg of Allen. Allen would gather the ball and poke the ball into the far post for the easy goal and the 3-0 lead for Milan.
Doumbia wasn’t about to let this blowout for Milan stand. On the restart he singlehandedly took the ball and rammed it down Milan’s middle. He would carve through the unsuspecting defense, who had been great all game. Doumbia would lay it off for Honda as Trellez stepped in front , and Honda would one time a rocket at Brkic that he would knock away, but Doumbia would grab the rebound and put it into the net to grab at least 1 away goal for the CSKA Moskva side in the 73’.
Milan would spend the rest of the half playing possession football, taking little chances with their big lead. The final whistle would finally sound with Milan taking a strong 3-1 win into their next match in Moscow. Milan looked extremely confident in this match, as their contrasting style gave CSKA fits. CSKA Moskva needs to make major adjustments as they head home for the 2nd leg. Look for them to try to attack Milan in the middle with Honda as the holding attacker, allowing Doumbia to make crucial runs up field to generate a bit of offense for their club. Overall an excellent win for Milan leaves CSKA Moskva fans wondering what went wrong and can it be corrected in time for the next match.

Summary:
Milan would travel to face 6th place Lazio who were looking for a late season surge to try to make it to the top of the table for a coveted Champions League spot. They wouldn't make things easy on Milan, as Lazio would take control early, controlling possession and dominating the ball against a tired Milan side. Lazio would score in the 15', as Candrera would get free on the break, leaving him on a 2 on 1 with his teammate Hernanes. Candrera would send across the pass in front of Brkic who had no shot at the ball, lading to the sweaty goal by Hernanes. Lazio wouldn't let up as Ledesma would try to add a goal of his own, sending a bender just out of Brkic's reach, but the ball would curl outside the post. Hernanes would get another chance as well, again on a break as he would turn on the burners getting into position for a one on one with the keeper. He would strike way too early, hitting an unnecessary strike that would head way over the crossbar. This would sum up the rest of the match as Lazio would dominate but could never really convert one of their many chances. Late in the match, Lazio would tone down the pace and play possession football. This would be their only mistake all game, as it gave Milan one of its only chances all afternoon. Allen would steal the ball from Ederson on the wing, pushing up strong with pace on the right side. Stankevivius had no choice but to tackle him, leading to a Milan free kick in the 90'. Carmona would take the kick just in front of the corner flag, curling a ball into the box. Allen would find the ball on the far post and head the ball into the net for the 90' goal. The match would end in a 1-1 draw, but Lazio's body language was that of a losing side as they gave away what was a sure win. Milan escapes from Lazio stealing 1 point.

Tight Top 4 Means Title Could Come Down to the Wire
by Davide Siviglia
Can Allen lead Milan to the Serie A title?
The battle for the top of the table has heated up, as four teams continue to fight for elusive three Champions League positions in the table. Milan sits atop of this rabble, riding a huge winning streak that has seen them gain key victories over Juventus and Inter earlier in the year. However, one has to wonder whether their continued effort in the Europa League will jeopardize their starters' fitness levels as they continue to win matches.
Juventus and Inter are expected to hold to form in the remaining two spots, as they continue to dominate lesser competition in Serie A. Both teams are dangerous as they have tremendous team play. Juventus is especially strong in their midfield with the continued emergence of Asamoah as the key cog in the middle for that team. De Bruyne has proved to be an excellent signing for Inter, giving them more flexibility with their lineup and shoring up what was arguably the only hole left on their team in that midfield.
The x-factor in the top four is the steady play of Genoa, who have quietly stayed consistent in the 4th spot since the mid point of the season. They are led by the creative genius of their star striker Immobile in the middle. His goal scoring ability along with the continued evolution of Ibarbo has allowed this team to excel. Look for Genoa to be a threat down the stretch should any of the top teams start to lose form. Here is how the top ten looks in Serie A at the moment.

Quarterfinals- 2nd leg

Milan took the long flight to Moscow for their second leg matchup against CSKA Moskva. Milan’s dominant performance had all but assured their advancement in the UEFA Europa League, but CSKA was not going to give up without a fight. They wanted to put on a good show for the home fans and their one hope was that they had scored an away goal at the end of the previous match. If they had any chance of winning, it would be to prevent Milan from getting on the board.
Well that chance would end early as Milan would take the ball deep into CSKA Moskva territory and get an early goal. The quick goal was set up by Allen in the middle, as he would give the ball to El Shaarawy out wide on the right side. He would cut past Dzagoev with pace, cutting inside and drawing the defense towards him. Miscommunication caused two defender to press up towards El Shaarawy, allow Paulinho to sneak in behind. El Shaarawy would lob it right over the top, and Paulinho would finish past Akinfeev, all but sealing the Milan victory in just the 4’.
With the 4-1 aggregate score, Milan would play possession football, allowing CSKA Moskva to come forward to them. Unlike the first match, Doumbia was definitely making his presence felt, getting to the back line with pace and trying to get off his shot. Problem was that the back line of Milan led by Abate was doing an excellent job of marking him, using pressure to either force him to give the ball up or forcing bad attempts on net. CSKA Moskva’s best chance came just before the half as Oliseh would control the ball on the right side off a long buildup around the penalty area. He would give it back to Doumbia, who would take the small window through the thick coverage of the back line and send in a high arcing bender that sailed toward the upper left corner of the net. Brkic would throw his body out full extension and barely knock the ball away, knocking it to Didac who would clear it away. That would end the half with Milan up 1-0.
The excellent through pass by Robinho all but sealed CSKA Moskva's fate
The second half would see CSKA Moskva finally break through with a goal. Doumbia would take Didac in the corner off the dribble, and the defender would slide tackle the ball away over the end line. The ensuing corner kick would be taken by Honda, and he would not disappoint, sending in the perfect ball that Sivok would head in for the home side, tying the match at 1-1.
CSKA Moskva would tyr to rally after the goal, sending forward everyone to try to make a match out of the blowout. Milan would bide their time, playing possession football when they could and countering with pace on the wings when they could. The story of this game would be the Milan back line, as they turned away chance after chance with great marking and smart play, filling gaps and switching on the ball with a cerebral quality. The match would tick on, and it soon became clear that CSKA Moskva just did not have enough time to make a match out of it, and late in the match with the ferocity of the pace and energy, CSKA Moskva started to run out of gas.
Milan would capitalize in the 78’, as Paulinho would control the ball in the middle of the field on a counter attack. The CSKA Moskva back line was cheating up, and Allen took his chance, sneaking past the back line. Paulinho would send a marvelous pass through with the outside of his foot, and Allen would find it in stride with no one left to beat. He would finish easily as Akinfeev would charge the ball late and allow the easily goal into the bottom corner. Milan would go up and win, 2-1, over a valiant effort by CSKA Moskva who at least attempted to show up in front of the home fans. They were just outclassed by a hungry Milan team that looks to continue their domination in the Europa League.

Summary:
Rain fell in sheets at Stadio Luigi Ferraris, drowning the pitch in various puddles scattered everywhere. This wet battle between two of the top five clubs in Serie A would come down to the wire. The showdown would begin with Genoa pressing the action, taking it to Milan as their superior speed was rendered almost nonexistent from the drenched field. Genoa did not seemed fazed, as they were able to control the ball in dangerous territory. Immobile would send in a cross that was too shallow for Kucka in the middle, but Trellez mistimed his jump and instead of clearing it with his head, ended up knocking the ball backwards to Kucka. Kucka wouldn't miss from that range, tapping in the short volley for the early goal. Milan would answer back quickly, taking it down the right side of the pitch. Emanuelson would find himself taking a throw in. He would see Allen awaiting the ball just outside the penalty area and throw it his way. Allen would fake out his defender with a dummy, letting the ball between his legs instead of stopping it, turning with pace, and firing at Frey. The keeper was caught unaware, and the ball rocketed past him for the equalizer. The pace of the game would slow down tremendously as the field began to degrade. The second half would come and go with more sloppy play. Milan would make the adjustment to the elements, however, as Montolivo would find Allen in some space with a gorgeous lob pass that would hit him in stride. Allen would get caught from behind, but would fake shot to force separation. The ball would slide from his right foot to his left as he took the shot from just inside the penalty area. Frey didn't have a chance as the perfectly hit ball would splash into the upper left corner in the 67'. Just as it looked like Milan would rack up another win, Immobile would take the game into his hands by demolishing the Milan back line. Merkel would find him on the right wing, and Immoblie would do the restm weaving his way amongst the defenders with skill before pulling a heel chop past Trellez and tapping home a right footed finesse ball into the bottom corner past Brkic to even the match at 2-2. From this point, the tide completely turned as Genoa had a long build up right at the end of the match. Milan seemed to go into a defensive shell. Genoa would take advantage, as Immobile would send a pass to Merkel in the middle where Milan defenders became bunched around him. Merkel would play it smart, one timing the ball to his left as Tozser sprinted inside the penalty area. Tozser would one time a shot near post. He caught Brkic leaning towards the far post before regaining position to dive towards the near side. The ball would sneak past for the 90' goal, ending the match with a Genoa victory. This top 5 battle would see Milan slide to number 2 behind Juventus, as the race for the Serie A title now tightens.

Summary:
Milan would return home after their disappointing loss to Genoa, and unfortunately for Torino, they ran into a buzzsaw who were none to happy with their previous showing. Torino got 0 shots on target all match. One could look at that statistics and think that the keeper and back line played unbelievably. The truth is that it was Milan's midfield that played lights out, preventing the ball from dropping back from their level, and constantly applying pressure by controlling possession and keeping the ball in Torino's side of the pitch. Emanuelson would break the stalemate in the 39' as Allen would hit a shot that was too hot for the keeper to handle. Emanuelson would put in the rebound and Milan would take the 1-0 lead. Allen would add one of his own in the second half. Abate would head up the right side of the field on a breakaway as Allen would sprint into the middle. Abate would send in the nice cross and Allen would head it home easily for the second and final goal of the match. This was an efficient victory for Milan, who are looking to keep pace with Juventus as the season winds to a close. With only 6 games remaining in the league, it looks as if it will be a war of attrition with both Juventus and Milan having matches remaining the the Champions League and Europa League respectively. Milan will now head to England to face Arsenal in the Europa League semifinals.

Re: Mr. Second Place: An Autobiographical Tale of Alvin Allen (Fifa 13)
Allen has been on a tear! I hope they bring some form of World Footballer of the Year award into the FIFA series...Allen would surely be up there somewhere between his club and international successes this year!
This is going to be a hell of a final stretch for the Serie A title...GOOD LUCK!Comment
