Heartbreak for Fulham as They Lose in the Final Moments of London Derby

Allen celebrates with teammates as a stunned Fulham looks on in disbelief

The top goal scorer in the league, Alvin Allen, was looking for his 20th goal of the Premier League season his team QPR played host to Fulham for a derby between these two rivals. Allen would get his 20th in dramatic fashion as his team would need his heroics late. Fulham would grab the first goal in the 38' on a Menez sliding goal, while Taarabt would equalize off an Allen cross that he would head in early in the second half. The match would remain tied headed into the last ten minutes of playing time. Allen would get free on the left wing after some key passing from Jeon and Taarabt to spring him on the break. Amorebietz would tackle the ball away dangerously inside the box, knocking the ball over the end line and winning QPR the corner kick. Faurlin would line up the cross and it would come low with a trajectory towards the near post. Allen seemingly climbed over defenders to reach the ball, snapping his head around and bouncing it under Stekelenburg's arms for the late game winner. Allen's teammates mobbed the striker as he propelled QPR to the 2-1 much needed win. Up next for the Rangers is a crucial match against the Gunners of Arsenal who sit one spot ahead of them in 5th place in the table.

Arsenal Unleashes Their Cannons but Miss the Mark Against QPR

Faurlin is making QPR fans forget about Granero with his excellent play in the middle

Arsenal and QPR are both fighting to climb the table, with the teams sitting at 5th and 6th place respectively. They fought to a draw earlier in the year, and the fans at Emirates Stadium were ready to see their hometown Gunners take care of the pesky Rangers. Unlucky for them, QPR would take the opening kick and march it straight through Arsenal's midfield for the opening goal. Hoilett would cut inside, switching with Faurlin who would sprint out wide. Faurlin would change direction in front of the defender, receive the through pass from Hoilett and power it home past Szczesny in the 5' of the match. Faurlin's emergence has been a breath of fresh air for a QPR side that lost the creative brillance of Granero in the middle, but Faurlin's movement from holding midfielder to playmaker has really helped Alvin Allen assert himself more in the offense allowing both players to compliment each other brilliantly. Once agin, both were involved in the second goal as Faurlin would give it to Allen on the left wing. The fluid pass allowed Allen to use his speed to get close to the box, drawing Szczesny to the near post. Allen would easily lob up the ball across the face of the keeper, allowing a wide open Simpson to head the ball home for the 2-0 lead.
The second half was a different story for QPR as Arsenal threw everything they had at the Rangers defense. Giroud would spur on the Arsenal offense using his size and speed to push his opponets around. He would give to Wilshire in the middle, before receiving the ball back and one timing the ball to his left to Carzola. Carzola would then send a lob across the field to a cutting Walcott, giving Ehmer a bit of a nudge to get inside, and sending a curling shot into the corner past a diving Vorm to make the match 2-1 in the 61'. After that goal, QPR went heavy on the defensive end to try to prevent another score for Arsenal. The strategy did not work as Arsenal would proceed to take 8 more shots in the second half. However, they just could not get the equalizer as they racked up miss after miss. Their best chance came off a Oxlade-Chamberlain shot from about 30 yards away that curled over the head of Vorm but clanged off the crossbar for the unlucky attempt. QPR would not get another shot on goal, but they would hold off Arsenal to win the day with a 2-1 victory over Arsenal.

          Semifinals - 2nd leg

QPR Finish Off Newcastle to Claim Berth in Final

Allen's 1st header all but sealed Newcastle's fate

And in that one instant, the match was over. Newcastle had controlled play early, pushing deep against the QPR defense as they struggled to stem the tide of the Magpies attack. The barrage of shots from Cabaye, Campbell, and Gouffran barely missed their mark as the home crowd of QPR held their breath, waiting for their team to relinquish the lead they had amassed in the first leg of the match. But all it would take is one goal to put the game all but out of reach, and superstar Allen would give it to the hometown supporters in the 40'. M'Bia would end a breakaway chance with a deflected shot that would sail over the bar, garnering a corner kick. Hoilett would grab the opportunity to send the perfect ball into the box and as we have seen so many times before, Allen would rise up above the competition, sending a crisp header into the top corner of the net. Krul could only watch the ball sail by, unable to even attempt the save as the perfectly placed ball ended Newcastle's finals hopes as QPR would take a 3-1 lead on aggregate. A crestfallen Newcastle side allowed in another goal from Phillips just five minutes later, adding an exclamation point to the already known forgone conclusion. Cabaye would get one back before the end of the match, but in the end it would be QPR taking in the adulation from their fans as it would be the Rangers heading to the Capital One Cup final.

The Football Association Challenge Cup - Round 4

Newcastle and QPR Face Off Again in the FA Cup

Cabaye gets even by grabbing an early goal at Zvezda

Once again the two familiar foes would find themselves staring across the pitch from one another as QPR and Newcastle would square off in another tournament which was round 4 of the FA Cup. This time Newcastle would be the ones to strike first in the competition as Cabaye would finally get one of his shots to get past QPR keeper Vorm on a wonderful inside ball from Gouffran to spring him free. Newcastle would hold off the advancing QPR in the first half, but eventually they would break through on a long build up just at the beginning of the second half. Allen would give it to Phillips just on the outside of the penalty area a shade to his right. Jeon would curl around the back of Allen sprinting straight into the middle as Phillips would stop his run and give the ball back inside, finding Jeon with a small amount of space in front of Tiote. Jeon would fire a one timed shot into the bottom right corner past a diving Krul to even the score at 1-1. The match would end in a draw as the evenly matched opponents would have to face off again in an FA Cup replay.

Re: Mr. Second Place: An Autobiographical Tale of Alvin Allen (Fifa 13)

I awoke in terror, taking struggled gulps for air through the cascade of water that had just hit my face. My mind fought to make sense of the situation as I realized that I indeed was not on some storm ridden ship in the middle of the ocean, but instead was laying on my own couch covered in water. I turned to look behind me to find a laughing Taisia with an empty bucket in her hand.
“What was that for?” I yelled, stumbling off the couch and invoking more laughter from my uninvited house guest.
“Get out of my house!” I screamed angrily. I never saw the punch coming. Two quick shots came from her fists straight to my gut, doubling me over as I kneeled on the ground in pain.
“I pay for this place,” she said coolly. It was then that I realized Miss Taisia was dressed in all business today. She had beat my butt in a skirt and heels. I pulled myself to my feet and sat back on the couch holding my stomach.
“Get over yourself, Alvin. Quinn is dead.” She let the silence hold a moment before continuing. “Your temper tantrums over your emotional issues are affecting my business. You miss practice. You show up to promotional events drunk. There is no excuse for your actions. You are a professional footballer. Start acting like one.”
“Well, yeah? Well what about…? I stammered.
“The manager selling your teammates?” she said a little more forcefully as she clenched her fist trying to control her emotions, “This is football! That happens all the time! I trust my manager and board members to make the best decisions for this team, both on and off the field. Since those two departed, you’ve been putting up incredible numbers, and we’ve seen other guys emerge as top players.”
Taisia began to pace, “After your behavior, it has been recommended to me that we let you go. You’ve been sold.”
              I was shocked. “But Taisia…?”
She turned quickly and stared a hole in my chest with those dark grey eyes, “I denied the boards claim. You still belong to QPR.”
I hung my head. “Look, Taisia, I’m sorry about the trouble I’ve caused.”
She walked over to me and kneeled in front of me so we could be at eye level.
“You are so set at being number 2 that you can’t see that you have the heart of a champion. Alvin, you have such a great heart. That’s why Quinn believed in you and loved you. That’s why I need you,” she then paused, “need your help with my father.”
I met her eyes, “Ok, you’ve got it. I’ll be stronger. I want to be a winner. Just tell me what you need and we’ll get it done.”
Suddenly the businesswoman façade cracked a bit as she smiled as she went to walk towards my door. “Ok, ‘Mr. Second Place’, let’s see how much of a winner you are on the field and we’ll work out the details on my father later.
              “Taisia?” I yelled after her.
              “Yeah?”
“Thanks, but do that thing with the water again and we’re going to have a problem.”
She closed my door and left. She was wrong though. I wasn’t a good person. I walked over to the kitchen and poured myself another glass of wine. I took a long sip, savoring the taste before taking it in. I sighed to myself before picking up my phone and calling him.
“Yeah she left, but we haven’t talked about Matvei. I’ll let you know when I have something.”

The Football Association Challenge Cup - Round 4 Replay

Fourth Time's the Charm for Newcastle

Ben Arfa finally breaks through against QPR

Facing a foe four times in a row had been unprecedented in the Premier League, but once again both Newcastle and Queens Park Rangers found themselves across the pitch from one another this time in an FA Cup replay. Oddly, St. James’ Park was getting their first view of this matchup as the previous three matches had been played in Zvezda Stadium. TheToon Army was ready to go as the opening whistle sounded and both teams got ready for another tough fought match. As the game began to progress, one could see how much both teams countered each others strategies. Nothing was a surprise at this point. This led to a high amounts of turnovers spurred on by a high amount of challenges on ball, which indirectly led to a high amount of fouls. The referee would have to get in the middle of many a battle between both sides as they pressed onward to try to get the victory. QPR would pull ahead in the amount of class shown in the second half, getting more attempts on net. One of these chances would see Jeon position himself in the middle of the field just in front of the half line. He would find a sprinting Hoilett with a lob over the top on the left hand side. Hoilett would cut back inside with a fake shot and then give back into the middle to a pressed up M’Bia hwho ha da good look at the net. Krul would come charging out and took the ball right off the feet of the attacker for an amazing save. Allen would sky the rebound attempt over the top of the bar, ending QPR’s best attempt at the win. The game would head to extra time to sort out a winner in this FA Cup affair. Newcastle would comply, getting a great build up on the restart up the wing with Cabaye. Playing a bit of the give and go with Gouffran, he would find DeBuchy back out wide with no QPR jersey in sight. DeBuchy would draw the defenders his way on the shallow right side of the box and send in the bouncing cross to Ben Arfa inside, who would one time volley the strike into the lower corner past Vorm, who had no shot at saving the excellent strike. Newcastle would hold on for the victory and get their revenge for being knocked out of the Capital One Cup and instead would get to move on in the FA Cup, while QPR heads home empty handed.

QPR Comes Off the International Break with a Tough Match Against Swansea

Taarabt had a tough time finding room against Swansea City

QPR came off of the international break rested and ready to head into their match against Swansea City who were looking to make a late push of their own to propel themselves up the table. QPR got all they could handle as Swansea pushed QPR out of their comfort zone with surprisingly physical play. Although QPR held possession for more than 62 percent of the match, Swansea made them pay for each of their attacks, pressing up on the point of attack with a high line in their defense. Led by their centerback Jordi Amat and anchored by the barking orders of keeper Caballero, Swansea shielded their net almost perfectly, except for one tough goal given up in the second half. QPR advanced up the middle with Faurlin and Allen. Allen would give to Taarabt out wide, who would give it right back to a cutting Faurlin from just inside the box. Faurlin would tahe an ambitious shot towards net, but Cabellero was there, deflecting the ball away with a deflection. Shelvey would try to clear the ball, but Ehmer got in front just poking the ball away. It happened in an instant while Caballero scrambled to get back in position, Ehmer slid the ball with a quick slide into the bottom corner of the net. It would be QPR's only shot on goal and it would somehow go in, winning the day for QPR. Although Swansea played the better game, QPR still found a way to win.

                          Capital One Cup

                          Capital One Title Game

Chelsea and QPR Give Us a Title Match for the Ages

The Capital One Cup has seen its fair share of good competitors make it to the final round of the tournament, but the event organizers love when two rivals make it to the end of their journey to face off for a final time against one another for a chance at silverware. That would be the case this time as the renewed rivalry between Chelsea and Queens Park Rangers would reach the tipping point in a match at the famous Wembley Stadium. Chelsea’s journey to the final was that of the dominant champion, using the class that has kept them at the top of the table in the Premiership to press onwards with mostly backup personnel, easily making it to the final. QPR’s road was a bit rougher, but the underdog club had proven themselves time and time again throughout the season as they would find themselves in the position to take home their first major silverware since 1967. The stage was set for the ultimate match. Who would take the English Cup crown?
The game would begin with both teams testing each other early offensively, with quick bursts and ambitious attempts by both teams strikers. Allen would get the first opportunity for his QPR side, cracking a shot from distance that sailed just over the crossbar. Courtois puffed out his cheeks, knowing that this would be a tough matchup. Chelsea would get a chance of his own as the always dangerous Hazard would head an attack up the wing, drawing the QPR defense towards him. He would give them fits with his quick feet before rifling across a pass to Jackson Martinez. The Columbian striker would stutter step as Ehmer stumbled to defend before knocking a shot to the upper corner of the net, but Vorm was there, snatching the ball out of midair for the save.
The match would continue with tough battles in the midfield. Faurlin struggled to get his game going as Ramires showed his class on the defensive end, using his speed to bother QPR players anytime they tried to exhibit any sort of offensive ability. This would spur on the counter attack for Chelsea as De Bruyne found himself with space late in the first half. He took the opportunity to send in a shot from distance that caught Vorm off guard, but the ball would clang off the inside of the post before being cleared away by M’Bia to ward off the dangerous attack. The half would end soon after with the score still even on 0-0.
Everyone knew the focus for QPR in the second half would be to get Alvin Allen involved. Unfortunately for the striker, his involvement was not what he wanted it to be, which was scoring goals. Instead Allen was pushed back from his offensive spot and was instead used to help on the defensive end. QPR was getting overwhelmed on the back end in the second half. Hazard was just too shifty for the defenders to deal with, and shots from all sides were coming at Vorm. Jackson Martinez was especially effective with the 1-2 passes between him and DeBruyne. Mikel and Ramires had pushed deep into the QPR side, slowing down play and looking for a chance to take the victory in the final moments of the second half. Ramires would hold the ball in the middle of the field as Hazard cut across the face of net from about 25 yards out with a step on his defender. Ramires went to lob the ball in, but the outstretched foot of Allen parried the ball away and sent it bouncing in no man’s land on the Chelsea half of the field. It was a foot race for Allen as he reached the ball just before Cahill could get there and found himself all alone against Cortouis. The Belgian keeper expected Allen to use his left foot, but at the last moments before they met, Allen finessed the ball with his right foot. All Courtois could do was look behind him as he dove the wrong way, expecting the ball to hit the back of the net. But Allen mi**** the ball, and it curled just wide of the net. That would end QPR’s chance for the half and the marathon game would now head to extra time.
Extra time was fruitless for both sides, as the fatigue of the fast paced second half finally set in for both clubs. Between both teams, only 2 shots were attempted on net and neither were in danger of going in. The game was on its way to penalties to decide the winner of the Capital One Cup. The sides were determined and the first five would be familiar names. As with all matches decided by penalty kicks, the winner would need calm nerves, good goalkeeping, and a whole lot of luck, because anything could happen.
The competitors for both sides were ready to start. Bruno Andrade of QPR and De Bruyne of Chelsea got things started with easy goals into the bottom corner to make it 1-1. Taarabt would barely make his chance as Courtois guessed correctly to his right but just could not reach the ball. Eden Hazard would then make the first mistake of the match, putting his ball over the crossbar for the QPR 2-1 lead. QPR’s Allen would power his shot into the right corner while Jackson Martinez used the cheeky chip to fool Vorm to make it 3-2 QPR after the third round. Courtois would come up with a huge save in the fourth round, this time diving to his right with authority to parry away Faurlin’s attempt. Schurrle would convert his easily as Vorm would guess wrong, evening the match at 3-3. Courtois would come up with another save, guessing correctly by staying home in the middle and snatched M’Bia’s shot right out of the air. Ramires would now have the chance to end QPR’s hopes of attaining the cup. He went to the spot, stutter stepped causing Vorm to stumble to his right. Ramires had him beat, cracking a shot to Vorm’s left side towards the upper corner, but the ball sailed slightly on him. It would clank off the crossbar and back at the midfielder and the referee signaled no good. Vorm pumped his fist in the air as somehow QPR’s hopes were still alive.
After the first five went, it would now come down to players who were not used to taking penalty shots. Many wondered who would make the first mistake. Round 6 went by with both Ehmer and Mikel putting their shots into the net. Round 7 would see left back Traore get his opportunity in front of Courtois. The lefty powered the ball to the left of the keeper. Courtois would guess correctly, but it was just out of his reach. The ball would hit the inside of the post and somehow bounce off Courtois’ wrist to roll over the line and garner the point for QPR. Traore looked relieved as the frustrated Courtois waited for the next round as Vorm would head in to take on the Brazilian defender Filipe Luis. As a left footed player himself, he actually decided to finesse a shot to the right of Vorm. Vorm would stay in the middle, watching the ball sail to his right helplessly. But the ball kept going, curling past the post and sailing wide. The crowd was silent, then exploded in exaltation as QPR players ran this way and that, tackling each other with the realization they had just won the Capital One Cup. Chelsea players clapped for their rivals, clearly disappointed, but still appreciative of the moment. The hard fought season had finally seen QPR walk away with silverware, their first major one in many years. Congratulations to QPR, winners of the Capital One Cup 5-4 in penalties over Chelsea.
