Summary:
Number 15 in the table, Crotone, was playing the role of spoiler today as Reggina came to town. With nothing to play for, Reggina looked poised to take an easy three points. However, Reggina didn't play to win. Instead, they played not to lose, and it cost them. Tentative play dominated the first half, as both midfields continued to feel each out for weaknesses like boxers circling the ring. Crotone got an early chance, with Matute taking a clean shot that Facchin barely reached in time to knock it away. Crotone wouldn't be denied for long though, as they once again pressed forward. Matute would find Pettinari just outside the box, and he would send in a crisp one time pass to Maiello for the curling finesse goal that was just inside the right post. Reggina went into the half deflated, down 1-0. Like many games this season, the striker Allen put the team on his back, pushing the Reggina side forward early on. He would send a lead pass to Ceravolo on the break. Allen would streak towards the net as Ceravolo pushed to the corner. The high arcing cross fell right to Allen, as he hit a hard volley that could have taken the keepers head off had he been there. The game was tied 1-1. The reenergized Reggina team took hold of the match in the second half, but GK Concetti was up to the task, saving three key shots, 2 from Allen and one from D'Alessandro that should have one them the match. Alas, it wasn't meant to be, as Crotone steals a point from a Reggina. Up next for Reggina is the number 1 team in the table, Brescia.

#1 vs. #4 Matchup: Who Belongs in Serie A?

There is a marvelous beauty within Italy when spring finally takes hold. Some prefer their futbol in the fall, but this matchup had all the makings of a glorious one on a perfect day in Reggio. The pitch was in impeccable condition as both teams went through their introductions with a distinct underlying determination. For Brescia, it was about pushing forward and crushing the competition on the way to winning Serie B. For Reggina, it was about distancing themselves from their competetors for the final spot for promotion. The whistle sounded, and the match began.

Brescia took hold of possession immediately and held it for most of the first half. The Reggina defense ran ragged, trying to poke the ball away from the skilled Brescia side. Adejo pressured his man a little too much, as an early free kick was awarded and barely put over the crossbar by Salamon. As Brescia would press forward again, this time it was Crovia who was involved in the early action, barely pushing the ball wide off of a nice pass from the midfielder Bouy.

Reggina wouldn't give up, mostly getting into Brescia territory off of counter attacks. The Brescia manager had done his scouting duty for the week, double teaming Allen wherever he roamed on the field, limiting his opportunities. With their striker doubled, Cervalo took it upon himself to make chances on net, but he was largely denied by a stout Brescia back line.

Brescia would press forward again, driving deep into the Reggina penalty area. Ely tackled Nana in the box and the yellow card and penalty were immediately given. Caracciolo, the talented striker for Brescia, wouldn't be denied from that range as Brescia took the lead in the 41'.

The kickoff would be stolen immediately from Reggina as they had to scramble to regroup after the goal. Bouy and Salamon worked well together, using crisp passing to confuse Reggina. Red jerseys found themselves outnumbered as Caracciolo would find Bouy inside the box for an easy finesse goal put past the keeper. The referee would sound the whistle for halftime, with Brescia enjoying a comfortable lead, 2-0.

A troubled Reggina fan base began to mix in a spatter of boos when the 2nd half began. Reggina would push into the Brescia side to try to get some semblence of offense started, but the side looked stiff and disjointed. They tried to force it into their star striker Allen, only to have the ball tackled away and turned into a long counter attack. In the 65', Allen received a pass in the box by a subbed in D'Alessandro. He turned and fired, only to have the ball easily deflected by the league leader in clean sheets Arcari. The Reggina manager would order everybody forward. Reggina enjoy some success in creating chances, but nothing seemed to materialize as the Brescia back line held strong.

When everybody pushes forward, it leaves an opportunity for counter attack. Brescia sent Benali on a run, and the long ball caught Reggina napping. Bouy would send it deep to Benali, who would catch it in stride and bury it past Facchin in the 86'.

The final whistle sounded the end of the match. Disappointed Reggina fans booed their team off the pitch. What began as a beautiful spring game quickly turned ugly for the home side. The game was well in hand for Brescia who definitely looked like the better team throughout the game. The loss will drop Reggina to 5th place behind Livorno and Vincenza.

Summary:
Was the pressure of promotion too much for this team? Pundits across Italy will be asking that question after this horrible game that saw the favorites fall flat on their face against hometown Cittadella. The game began with a suprise start by Baiocco in goal for Reggina. Facchin was benched after a couple of poor performances, including that 3-0 trouncing by Brescia. Alas, a change in goal couldn't help a Reggina side that showed no initiative to pressure Cittadella. In fact, it was Cittadella, led by their striker Gianetti who put the pressure on Reggina. His early chances were denied, but late in the first half, he would get past Adjeo and dribble inside for a 1 on 1 that Baiocco had no chance of defending. The right footed strike would go in easily for the 1-0 lead heading into the half for the home side. Reggina would rally in the second half once again, with Armellino hitting a wonderful header off of a Rizzato cross that would even up the match. Reggina still looked disjointed on offense, as their rhythm seems to be completely dependent on their striker Allen, who was no where to be found during this match. The game would end in a 1-1 draw, leaving Reggina with little chance to advance with only 2 games remaining in Serie B.

Summary:
The final home game for Reggina was bittersweet. The team was greeted by a cheering crowd to celebrate the last home game of the season, but sprinkled throughout you could here some boos. The seesaw season had finally caught up to Reggina, and this game was a great microcosm of their entire season. It began fast with a quick goal in the 3' by Allen on a gorgeous diving header off of a corner kick. Reggina then played defensively trying to hold on to their one goal lead. It worked for the first half, with C. Stabia only getting one shot on goal. Then deep into the second half, things just went wrong for Reggina. A fluke shot by Cellini deflected off of Rizzo, then bounced off the post and off of GK Baiocco's heel to roll into the net. A stunned Reggina manager could only hang his head as the goal would stand for the rest of the match, ending in a 1-1 draw. Reggina dominated the game as they had so many this year. But in the end, when they began to play conservatively, they wouldn't take those chances that won them games early in the season. After this loss as most figured, they were mathematically eliminated from promotion.

Summary:
Reggina's last win was against Bari on April 9th. With this loss to Padua, Reggina will finish in the same spot in the table as they were when they brought Alvin Allen on board in January to be their starting striker. We pick up in the second half, as Babacar would send in a long shot towards the corner that was misjudged by the keeper for a 1-0 lead for Padua. Allen would answer soon after with a goal of his own, receiving a nice through pass from D'Alessandro for the right footed strike. The game would bog down from here throughout the half, but one last rally in the 82' found Babacar getting his name called again, this time finishing a rebound shot off of Granoche's miss. Padua would put the hapless Reggina squad out of their misery, 2-1.
