      Tanzania Find New Coach

After much speculation as to where the young Coach Pfeifer would get his start, Tanzania were the only ones to bite. The Tanzania Football Federation are looking to start new with a young coach taking the lead of his first national team. This is a perfect fit for both sides with expectations being non-existant. Coach Pfeifer and Tanzania come into the qualifying campaign as a relative unknown for most African nations. Thequalifying draw is just ahead for the beginning of this journey.

Even if it was just a friendly, Coach Pfeifer wanted to prove a point. Getting the win on away soil was impressive no matter who it is against. Going into Equatorial Guinea is no easy task and will prepare Tanzania for what is ahead in World Cup qualifying. A lackluster first half saw two teams trying to find themselves before the games take true meaning. 0-0 at the half, Tanzania came out with better possession in the second half and would be rewarded with a 65th minute goal, the first under Coach Pfeifer. Mrwanda would look to lace a shot from 20 yards out that forced the keeper to make a save, however, the rebound was headed home by Tegete from a difficult angle for a 1-0 lead. The goal would hold up and Tanzania are looking good going into their first qualifier.

It will be a tough road for Tanzania as they drew African power Senegal and up-and-coming Zambia. They should take care of business against Mauritania both home and away. Consider the home game against Zambia a must-win and to grab a point away to Zambia would put them in great shape.

Gabon came out on fire on their home soil this afternoon. They possessed the ball all around the field and looked like they would be the ones to strike first. That all changed on Tanzania's first chance in Gabon territory. All it took was 7 minutes to see our first goal as Tegete, again, cleaned up the scraps from Mrwanda's initial attempt on goal. This time Tegete used his right foot to crush the ball off the bottom of the crossbar and in for the early 1-0 lead. It looked as if Gabon were settling back into the game when Ecuele was shown a red card in the 44th minute to reduce Gabon to only 10 men. The extra man would do no good for Tanzania as they gave up plenty of chances to Gabon who eventually were rewarded with a penalty kick in the 61st minute when the Tanzanian goalkeeper Mapunda took down Moubamba in the area. Do Marcolino would step up and slide the ball home to make it 1-1. The game would end this way with both teams exchanging chances in the final 30 minutes.

Rwanda didn't show up until halftime, allowing Tanzania to get in front. Tegete's fantastic run of form continued for Coach Pfeifer's squad as he found the back of the net in the 27th minute off a scramble at the top of the 18 yard box. Tegete was first to the ball and snapped a shot in off the post for the 1-0 Tanzania lead. The lead would double shortly after the half with Ngassa being taken down just inside the corner of the box on a tough call against Rwanda. The skipper Shindika would step up and bury the penalty to the keeper's right in the 50th minute for the 2-0 lead. Tanzania would sweat out the last couple minutes as Rwanda sent numbers forward and eventually hit the post in the 89th minute. In the end it was another victory for a hungry Tanzanian side as they open up World Cup qualifying next week!

Tanzania takes one giant step forward as they won their opening World Cup Qualification match. As host to the superior Zambian side, Coach Pfeifer put into place a more counter-attacking style which we will surely see more of as the qualification process moves forward. This counter-attacking style with 8 men behind the ball at all times frustrated the Zambian attack as they settled for off-target shots. It lead to Zambia pushing more numbers forward, which opened up the counter for Tanzania. This is exactly how Tanzania were able to score the lone goal of the match with Mrwanda crushing one into the side netting of the goal from a feed by Shindika. The 1-0 win gives Tanzania confidence moving forward with a chance to grab an early 6 points as they travel to Mauritania following their 5-1 loss away to Senegal.

Tanzania look to be well in control of their own destiny in terms of qualifying for the next round of the CAF World Cup Qualifying. It started off well with Tanzania controlling possession early and being rewarded with two goals in quick succession just before halftime. Tanzania now sits just behind Senegal who won with ease in Zambia by the score of 4-1. Senegal, by virtue of goal differential, sits just ahead of Tanzania. In the second round of CAF World Cup Qualifying the top team in each group moves on along with the 6 best second place teams. As of right now Tanzania are in good shape, but need a result in one of their back-to-back games with group leading Senegal to solidify a spot in the third round.

The Senegalese faithful were shocked just 8 minutes into the match as visiting Tanzania struck early for a 1-0 lead. Tegete's chipped through ball found Mrwanda in stride, who first-timed the shot into the top corner of the net. It wasn't long until Senegal were able to begin mounting attacks. After Diouf hit the bottom of the crossbar in the 34th minute, Tanzania were unable to cleanly clear the ball. The ball found the feet of Camara who coolly chipped the helpless Tanzanian keeper to even the score at 1-1 in the 35th minute. The rest of the game had everything the fans wanted, minus the goals. It was end to end with plenty of chances being created, but nobody was able to secure the full 3 points. A point a piece and a highly anticipated rematch on Tanzanian soil in less than a week's time in a game that will likely decide who makes it through to the next stage of qualifying.

Controlling their own destiny is now officially out of Tanzania's hands. With identical 2-2-0 records, Senegal has found itself in a solid lead on goal differential. Tanzania must now hope for a slip up, or a record number of goals scored following their 1-1 draw at home to Senegal. The game was almost identical to the game last weekend in Senegal, even down to the score. An early goal by Findika was cancelled out by a penalty on the stroke of halftime that Shindika put away for the home side. Hope was almost lost but for the sturdy post and crossbar that stayed strong and kept the ball out behind the Tanzanian goalkeeper. Into the home stretch and Tanzania needs help from either Zambia or Mauritania.

In what was supposed to be a test to see if they would be able to make up the goal differential situation when the time came, the all out attack game-plan backfired for Coach Pfeifer. In a strategy that was looking set for their last two World Cup Qualifiers, Tanzania suffered its worst setback of the Pfeifer era. The early pressure was easily broken by Namibia as Risser was able to get on the end of a Khaiseb cross and half-volley them into the 11th minute lead. Namibia closed out the game in the 78th minute with a fantastic finish from Bester who slammed it into the near top corner. Tanzania looked their slowest yet under Coach Pfeifer and have one more friendly before they get back to business.
