A better performance tonight for Tanzania at home against Zimbabwe leads to more hope of success in their next match of World Cup Qualifying. The shots and shots on goal were identical, but possession was dominated by Zimbabwe. Tanzania made the most of what little they saw of the ball in creating several good scoring chances. In the 23rd minute Mrwanda found the ball at his feet from Tegete's replacement Selemani's pass. Selemani played valiantly in the second striker role with the injury of Tegete still keeping him out. Zimbabwe's possession was rewarded in the 79th minute with a nice goal by Nengomasha to nod it at 1-1. Up next is Tanzania's trip to Zambia, a must-win.

Three straight draws for Coach Pfeifer's men have left them helplessly stuck behind Senegal. Unable to create much of anything against Zambia, in Zambia, Tanzania were beyond frustrated. Turnover after turnover was all Coach Pfeifer saw in the boring 0-0 draw. This was a must-win for Tanzania, who barely hold onto the thought of South Africa at this point in time. Senegal battled from behind and found a late winner against Mauritania to win 3-2 in their match. One more friendly with Burundi on the horizon, then the last matchday to end Group I for good.

Coach Pfeifer came away from this afternoon's friendly a very happy coach. As a relative newcomer to the CAF World Cup Qualifying, Pfeifer was given the news that his team would have to be one of the better second place teams to qualify for the next round of qualifying. This news must have lit the flame beneath the players who came out and put a licking on visiting Burundi. Racing out to an early 1-0 lead from a tap in goal by Mrwanda, Tanzania never looked back. Then, twin 30-yard bombs gave Tanzania an insurmountable 3-0 lead. Swedi and Shindika let them fly from 30 yards with the middle of the field wide open all afternoon. Burundi would answer back with a world class strike of their own from 18 yards out that would find the top corner on their only shot on goal of the game. Up next is a very big game for Tanzania back in Dar Es Salaam against visiting Mauritania. A win and they are on to the next stage; a draw and they must sweat it out; a loss and there is a distinct possibility of all hopes being dashed of South Africa.

A 13th minute strike by Khalfan, his first on the qualifying campaign, was enough to see Tanzania over Mauritania. Khalfan found himself open wide right and demanded the ball, which was played to him by Nsajigwa. With the far side netting looking pretty, Khalfan blasted the ball past the outstretched hands of the Mauritanian keeper. The win should be enough to see Tanzania through to the next round of qualifying. With Senegal playing tomorrow, along with a couple other final CAF qualifiers, answers will have to wait.

It's amazing how one play can change the landscape of the game. A red card offense by Mapunda, the Tanzanian keeper ended up in a penalty kick for Sudan and the subsequent defensive game for Tanzania. After finding a 1-0 lead from a Mrwanda goal in the 12th minute, the 24th minute penalty kick for Tambal cancelled the early advantage. Tambal would then find a brace just before the half as he was in 1-on-1 with Dihile, Mapunda's replacement, for the 2-1 Sudan lead. The game wouldn't have too many chances in the second half as Tanzania opted for damage limitation and Sudan were content with the 2-1 lead. Up next is another friendly against Congo as well as the day we find out the fate of Tanzania with South Africa's final qualifier being scheduled so late after the final matchday.

Tanzania may have created their 11 attempts with 5 on target, but all were half-hearted attempts. Coach Pfeifer was uninspired by his team's performance this afternoon at home against an already eliminated Congo side. In what looked like a win on paper turned anything but. Congo were able to control the entire game and held a large advantage on possession. The one consolation for Coach Pfeifer is his team did not give up many chances at all defensively. Unfortunately Swedi was injured in training after the game and will be unavailable for the next three contests for Tanzania. Swedi had been a leader from the back, even scoring a goal in a recent friendly.

With an eye on the bigger picture, Tanzania get blown out against Uganda. The Ugandan team made the most of their 6 shots on goal, burying 4 of them. Tanzania, who's Stage 3 draw just came out, need to perform much better than this if they are to even have a chance at qualification for South Africa.

With only one team qualifying for the World Cup from each group, this will be intense!

Group C is loaded and its a shame that one of the three top 32 teams in the world won't make the WC.

Should be finishing this up this weekend(as I'm doubtful I'll qualify!)....so that means it is time to start thinking about what team I will be next in my journey! Suggestions are more than welcome!

Stage Three of the CAF World Cup Qualifying started off poorly for Tanzania as they came into Malawi needing a result of some sort if they wanted to have a chance of advancing to the World Cup. In the 11th minute Mwafulirwa headed home a goal to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage. It didn't take long for Tanzania to wake up and join the game. In the 24th minute Shindika collected the ball in the middle of the field and let fly a 20 yard shot that flew into the far side netting to even the score. Just 8 minutes later Tegete was able to find himself on the scorers sheet for the first time since coming back from his hamstring injury with a headed home rebound from Shindika's initial shot that was saved by the Malawi keeper. The insurance, and goal differential, goal came in the 75th minute with defensive midfielder Nsajigwa for his first goal of the qualifying campaign. He received the ball from Namwandu, a defender who was up for the corner kick, and lofted a perfectly placed ball with his left foot over the helpless keeper from 25 yards out. Nobody expected the shot, especially the keeper, who was caught wrong-footed. Elsewhere in Group A, Ghana and Mali drew 2-2 in Ghana. Mali went up early 2-0, but couldn't hold on as Ghana fought back for a tough point apiece. This leads to Tanzania as your Group A leaders after Matchday 1.

Coach Pfeifer thought it would be a great idea to bring in an out of continent opponent to see a different style of play during the latest friendly against Latvia. Latvia, who currently sit in great position of Group B in their UEFA World Cup Qualifying campaign, have 11 points, 2 behind group leader Israel and even with Switzerland. It was a great idea as Tanzania and Latvia fought back and forth with a goal finally coming in the 90th minute off a wonder-strike from midfielder Solonicins from Latvia. This great competitive match encouraged Coach Pfeifer to schedule other out of continent opponents with the next two opponents being China and Qatar. The next match takes Tanzania to China who bowed out of the AFC World Cup Qualifying in Stage 3 as they finished with 8 points, one behind Qatar who moved on with their second place finish.

Another fantastic friendly for Tanzania to be a part of. It has been refreshing to see them go outside the CAF to find competition elsewhere. In Beijing, Tanzania were able to hold the Chinese star forward Qu Bo to only one goal from his 3 shots. His lone goal came in the 40th minute on a breakaway goal. He used his blazing speed to get behind the injury riddled Tanzanian backline and slotted home the goal under the arms of the backup keeper for Tanzania. Tanzania were able to level the match in the 55th minute from a Tegete goal off a feed from Mrwanda. Tegete blasted home the one-timed shot for his second goal in three matches. Up next is a home match with group favorites Ghana.

A promising start after a 3rd minute goal by Shindika was immediately cancelled out by Asamoah's first in the 5th minute. The game remained tied at 1-1 until the 69th minute when Asamoah connected on Muntari's cross as he headed home the important 3 away points for Ghana, who are now ahead of Tanzania by 1 point, and only behind Mali by goal differential. After the game the Tanzanian supporters were seen celebrating as they have never been this competitive in any qualifying campaign. All is not lost, but it will certainly be an uphill struggle for the top spot in Group A.

Nice to see a friendly against a European team. Also good to see Israel in serious contention!
You probably mentioned this earlier, but I am too lazy to go back: what console/settings/game/rosters are you using?
Nice job so far with Tanzania, despite overwhelming odds against you.
