Re: Mike Leach fired
Statements contradict James.
Statements contradict Adam James' version of events at Texas Tech
03:43 PM CST on Saturday, January 2, 2010
By KATE HAIROPOULOS / The Dallas Morning News

A representative of former Texas Tech football coach Mike Leach provided The Dallas Morning News with statements that contradict Adam James' version of events.
Statement from Texas Tech team physician Michael Phy, dated Dec. 25:
[an error occurred while processing this directive]
I saw Adam James as a patient on December 17th. At that visit I diagnosed him with
a mild concussion. I made recommendations regarding level of activity and treatment. These were shared with Adam and the athletic training staff and are documented in Adam's medical record. I was not aware of any incident until I was contacted by (Tech representative) Charlotte Bingham. She provided details of a complaint, and I completed a short phone interview and
answered questions for her. According to the information given to me, no additional risks or harm were imposed on Adam by what he was asked to do.
Sincerely,
Michael Phy
Statement from head football trainer Steve Pincock, dated Dec. 31:
"In regard to the Adam James situation, the first building was an athletic training storage garage, two of which were adjacent to the football field.– Adam was placed in the sports medicine garage, there is no lock on this building.– Normally, injured players are asked to perform exercises, however Adam could not participate in these drills, and was originally asked to walk around the field during practice.– Adam showed up to practice in street clothes, no team gear, and dark sunglasses.– Adam walked about 40 to 50 yards, very slowly and with a non-caring attitude.– Coach Leach noticed Adam’s poor effort and non-team attire, and asked that Adam be placed in a location where sunlight could not bother him as he was wearing sunglasses.– Two trainers, including myself, monitored Adam at all times. I instructed Adam to stay in the garage and out of the sun, so the light would not worsen his condition.– While in the garage, Adam was walking around, eating ice, sitting on the ground, and, at one point, sleeping; at no point was there any enforcement to make Adam stand up. Adam was checked by doctors every day."
"On the second occasion, practice was in the stadium, and Coach wanted Adam to be in a dark location to help his concussion and wanted him out of public view because of his poor attitude and bad work ethic.– Zack Perry, our equipment manager, suggested using the visiting team media room.– I walked Adam to the room, which was at least as big as a two-car garage.– Inside the room there is an electrical closet.– I looked in the closet and stated that there was ‘no way that Adam would be placed in there’.– I shut the door to the electrical closet, and it was never opened again.– At no time during this practice was Adam ever placed in the electrical closet.– The door to the media room was never locked, and trainers attending to Adam stated that he was sitting at times during the practice.– Adam was never locked in any facility, and was never placed in an electrical closet or tight space, or instructed to do so."
"I received calls about both incidents from Charlotte Bingham, and was asked and answered many questions on the subject, and pictures were taken of both locations. Adam exhibited no symptoms of a concussion after the first day: no memory loss, no confusion, and no dizziness."
Statement from Mark Chisum, Texas Tech director of sports medicine for football, dated Dec. 31:
The storage shed can hold two golf carts, ice machine and various portable water fountains for football practice. The media room for the visiting football teams is about the size of a big garage. The shed cannot lock because the key was broken off in the lock several years ago. The media room was not locked. I was not involved in checking on the player in either place. I do not know how often the athlete was checked on by another athletic trainer. I do not know if the player had his cell phone on him in either places. An athlete with a concussion will have headaches and be sensitive to light (photophobia). We also have the athlete not lift Weights and take it easy and not to stress their bodies and only take Tylenol by mouth for the headaches.Last edited by Jackdog; 01-02-2010, 04:58 PM.NFL:Packers

Re: Mike Leach fired
Use the administrative tools that are available to you.
1. Use "timeout" by isolating child within classroom setting.
2. If that does not work, use that phone on the wall in the classroom that dials directly into the principals office. Principal removes student from classroom and calls parents or gardian of the student. The reason you use the administrative tools is because you dont want teachers making up their own rules because only bad things happen when you do that.
If a player is disruptive in practice, you kick him out of practice. If it's a ongoing problem then you document it and dismiss him from the team. Look at how Oregon delt with Lagarrette Blount the last 2 years. They documented everything he did and used the administrative tools that were available to them. You dont take punitive action on your own. When you do, the school will hang you out to dry.

Re: Mike Leach fired
Leach messed up, he is not a doctor nor the trainer period. It doesn't matter what Adam story is, he had a concussion his noodle is all messed up at that time. But, the trainer under an affidavits states a fact. ESPN has nothing to do with this, so leave them out of it and stay focused on the facts reported and it just seems to me it has nothing to do with the ESPN or the James Family, this is all TT and Leach.
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4790586
According to his affidavit, taken by representatives of the university on Dec. 21 and signed on Jan. 1, trainer Steve Pincock did not agree with the treatment and said he knew of no other player ever being placed in a similar room.
In releasing the affidavits from Pincock and treating physician Dr. Michael Phy, the university said, "After coach Leach's conflicting recent media accounts of the treatment of James, the university asked witnesses to sign affidavits attesting to their original statements."
Phy told university officials in his affidavit that James "may not have been harmed," but he "considered this practice inappropriate, and a deviation from the medical standard of care."
It's not about being soft, its about what was the right thing to do. No such thing as a mild concussion, it's just a concussion.Comment

Re: Mike Leach fired
Yes it is. Every move has to be pc nowadays. Bear Bryant almost killed his kids in Junction. They were better football players because of it and probably became men that summer. Adam James, like most young athletes today, need to have their *** pushed and straightened out. Stop ignoring the facts about James being a well known punk and a brat.Comment

Re: Mike Leach fired
Leach is not a doctor so he should have not been prescribing anything for treatment. That is trainers job. Why don't people get this fact.Comment

What the kid did or didn't do doesn't matter. There was a protocol to follow for concussions and Leach didn't do it. End of story.Comment

Re: Mike Leach fired
Once I hit management, I was given a wise piece of advise: "Accusation without documentation means nothing". If Craig James was as bad as Mike Leach claims then he should have 3 years worth emails & voice mails to backup his claims since he says that Craig called and emailed the coaches nonstop. Ask yourself this question, do you really think that a chancellor would risk his 35 year career by tying his hitch to a washed up football hero and his 9th string wideout kid? Not likely. I have my theory on angle TT is going to use in court if it gets that far if you want to hear it?I dont remember there names but they were allot of fun....Comment

Re: Mike Leach fired
Everyone knew leach was going to get canned so the trainers said "it was all leach" to save their jobs. Makes about as much sense as the other stories out there.
And why would Leach lie now?Texas. Football. All. Day.Comment

Re: Mike Leach fired
Im saying now that he probably didnt prescribe anything. Leach was probably trying to coach a practice with a whiny brat in his ear and told his trainers to handle it.
