High school kids get worse punishment than this. With the way some people acted, you would think James was being tortured.

Apparently players didn't like James. I think this is a case of a pansy player and his powerful daddy throwing a fit to get a coach fired.
Yeah, and high schools only recently started even caring about concussions. This wasn't horrible treatment at all, but I guess Craig James probably still thinks players are supposed to get the thousands of dollars he got while at SMU.

I'm more disappointed in how ESPN chose to cover one side of the story though. They should end up looking worse than Tech Tech's admins right now.

James was put into a shed where offensive linemen go to get out of the heat and a room where coaches hold some of their press conferences. This is gayer than Wales.

        Re: Mike Leach fired

In this day and age with lawsuits so common, every coach at every level is well aware of what they can and can not do to players. I can't see a veteren coach disciplining a player in a manner that would have been considered harsh in the 1950's. Something sure isn't right here.

Lou Holtz and Mark May sure handled the story with kidgloves during halftime of the Humanitarian Bowl. You could tell they wanted to unload, but couldn't. That was just my take.

It was interesting to see some players finally spoke up on Adam's side after Leach was let go. It will be interesting to see if more speak up.

if Adam didn't want to be punished, he shouldn't have be late, lazy, and flat out being a smart *** to the coaches as much as he was or better yet, just not play football at all. I don't see how sending a kid to a room with multiple trainers to keep an eye on him can be considered cruel. people are just way too soft these days. I guess we have to let the kids run wild and let them do what they want from now on.

unless there is something that has not been released, I don't see anything wrong with what was done giving the situation.

Gerald Myers didn't screw Mike Leach.

I disagree, it seems that AD has wanted him out for quite some time. IMO Myers did screw him over. It just seems to me the seriousness of the charge outweighs the facts in this case. I base that on all the people coming to the defense of Mike Leach saying that this James kid was a lazy arse at practice, and not just once, on multiple occasions. I guess what really irks me is the one coach saying that this kid didn't belong in D-1 football and Leach was the one who got him a scholly and then the kid doesn't put forth the effort and then cries to daddy when he's disciplined for being a slug. I guess it all boils down to me not thinking what Leach did was so bad unless something else comes out that makes me see it differently.

It's called compliance 101. How many times in a year on the news do you hear about a teacher putting a student in a closet for some sort disruptive behavior? At least 5 or 6 times.

                      1. compliance investigates claim
                      2. compliance suspends teacher
                      3. compliance requests teacher to issue an appolgy
                      4. teacher issues appology
                      5. teacher reinstated

                      In this case Mike Leach

                      1. Mike Leach puts Adam James in a shed and a closet
                      2. compliance investigates claim
                      3. compliance suspends Mike Leach
                      4. compliance requests Mike Leach to issue appology
                      5. Mike Leach refuses
                      6. Mike Leach is fired

It cant be anymore clear cut. A coach is a facilty member so same rules apply. Once compliance is involved the macho toughguy football BS does not matter. Putting a student athlete in a shed is poor judgement. Mike Leach should have handled it like an adult. He should have dismissed him, players have been dismissed for far less infractions..

Man, my bad. After I read the emails from those close to the situation about what kind of player Adam was and saw the pictures of where Adam was tortured posted earlier in this thread, I've pretty much sided with Leach on this one (For the time being at least, since Tech wanted him gone anyway, I wonder if there is more to this).

Since you mentioned Bret Hart, I made a Montreal Screwjob reference. Sorry for the confusion.

Yeah I realize that now, I'm still coming down from the 9 hour work day, not really all there yet and I'm so used to people disagreeing with me on here. I'll give myself the facepalm on that one. lol

the "shed" is bigger than some garages, and that "closet" is actually a press conference rooms where visiting teams coaches do their post-game interviews and such. in both situations, there were 1 or more trainers there to monitor Adam. I agree Leach should have done something else, he should not have even recruited Adam to begin with. he was known to have issues. according to Leach's lawyer though, there was never any offer to make an apology, or any letter to sign to make it better, etc.. it's pretty much a he said/he said situation.

the administration and Leach have been going at it for years, they just used this as a means to get rid of him.
