Re: 2011 Recruiting Thread
the willie williams comment isnt even worthy of a response. i know some of us think we have the worst luck ever sometimes, but i cant see clowney not being at usc this fall. clowney is coming in as a natural defensive end in a system where pass rushers in recent years have been very successful. norwood, matthews, taylor, and ingram. he's coming into a good system with two all sec caliber pass rushers already in place so he'll have an opportunity to make plays.Comment

Re: 2011 Recruiting Thread
He's got the quote from the soon-to-be-fired Hargrave coach who allegedly saw Clowney's grades (and then illegally discussed them in the NYT hit piece) despite the fact that South Carolina sends the majority of their non-qualifiers to Fork Union and not Hargrave. lol...Comment

Re: 2011 Recruiting Thread
Not a fan of any of the schools in play, but for whatever it's worth I did come across this when reading a random article yesterday.
Clowney and his family provided FOXSports.com with an in-depth look at the final weeks of his recruitment. It included him, at one point, deciding he would attend Clemson instead of South Carolina, being tempted by coeds, and admitting for the first time publicly that he has a learning disability (link: I will be eligible) after his eligibility for next season was questioned by an article in The New York Times that mentioned his poor grades early in high school. He has yet to qualify academically.A negative mind will never give you a positive life.

Re: 2011 Recruiting Thread
I have no pony in this race, but I thought this article was very telling on the the many interesting aspects of college football recruiting.
The pursuit of Jadeveon Clowney. Just a note, it is a fairly long article. We'd all be foolish to think he's the only one, but the Clowney tell-all reveals bad, worse aspects of recruiting.
One quote that I did find funny and reveals the lack of knowledge and/or respect of many high school athletes; When talking about Nick Saban's in home visit:“I don’t see no big deal like everybody else,” he said later. “They’d say, ‘He’s the king of all of football.’ The guy ain’t nothing but 5-5. He’s a short guy. Everybody’s going crazy on Nick Saban.”
During the visit, Saban touted Alabama’s graduation rate, its success in sending players to the NFL and playing Clowney at both defensive end and outside linebacker. Clowney and his family could hardly get a word in.
“Nick Saban’s going to take over and talk,” Clowney said. “He talked the whole time he was there. I was dozing off. He can talk. A lot. He talked for a whole straight hour.”
A negative mind will never give you a positive life.

Re: 2011 Recruiting Thread
Mainly "educated guesses" by people close to Clowney's recruitment. I havent seen his records, of course, but the general consensus is that he is on the edge as of January. I hope he makes it in, because he seems to be a great talent and it would be a shame for him to have it wasted.Comment

Re: 2011 Recruiting Thread
Rumors are that DeMarcus Smith wants out of his LOI with Central Florida. Not sure what he plans on doing if he gets out of it, but thats the word on the airwaves.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Re: 2011 Recruiting Thread
well the airwaves stated that he chose to go elsewhere because he didn't have the grades to get into UofL. I'm not sure if he's wanting out in hopes of going Juco and improving his grades, or if he is going elsewhere, or if the reports of his grades were incorrect.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
